September 29

After looking at the stars last night, we took the kids inside, gave them baths, and put them to bed. Inuyasha and I finally had some time to ourselves. We hung out by the fire for a while and then started to get ready for bed.

When I was done writing for the night, I crawled into bed next to him. I giggled as Inuyasha pulled me into his arms and kissed me.

"How are you feeling tonight?" he asked as he looked into his eyes. All the while his hand trailed down my back and when it found its destination he squeezed my butt.

"I'm a little horny," I said sensually as I ran my fingers down his chest. "You wanna take care of that for me?" After such long days taking care of the children, I was very eager to be alone with him and make love. They had gone to sleep hours ago and now it was time for us to have some fun of our own.

"Gladly," he said in that deep, sexy voice that turned me on every time. He went back in and kissed me hard. My fingers tangled in his hair and I moaned into his mouth as his tongue danced with mine in a delicious dance that made me desire him more by the second.

"What are you doing?"

We immediately pulled away from each other when we heard Midori's voice. She was standing in the doorway looking at us questioningly.

"N-nothing. Nothing at all," I said, quickly trying to catch my breath. The last thing I wanted was to have to explain the birds and the bees to Miroku and Sango's children.

"You're kissing like mommy and daddy do."

"Um, what are you doing up, Midori?" Inuyasha asked. I was super grateful that he changed the subject and Midori seemed to go along with it.

"I can't sleep. I had a nightmare," she said as she crawled onto our bed. "Can I sleep with you?"

"Sure," I said reluctantly.

Inuyasha gave me a look that said "what are you doing?" and I just shrugged. What was I supposed to do, tell the little girl who just had a nightmare to go back to bed and try to sleep on her own? I figured Midori would be asleep in a few minutes and then we could take her back to bed and continue to make love.

But then Shinichi came into the room.

"Whatcha doing in here, kiddo?" Inuyasha asked.

"Midori left. I got lonely," Shinichi said. He got into bed with us as well.

"Well, you can stay with us until you fall asleep too," I said as he got under the blanket next to his sister.

Then a few minutes later, Mieko came into the room. "Let me guess, you can't sleep?" Inuyasha said.

"Everyone left," she said with a shrug as she got into bed too.

There was significantly less space for me and Inuyasha now and we were on the edges of the bed. The kids wanted to stay up and talk for a while and then they went to sleep. But by then Inuyasha and I were tired too and the mood was officially dead.

"So much for that," Inuyasha whispered to me.

"If this is what it's like, if we have any more kids we'll need to get a bigger bed."

Today was more of the same with taking care of the children. Inuyasha and I anxiously waited to hear something from Kohaku and the demon slayers or for Miroku and Sango to just come home, whichever one came first we were fine with. But none of that happened today and we were very disappointed.

Ever since after breakfast when Midori and Mieko disappeared into their room to get something, they seemed to be hiding something from us. Even Shinichi was in on it. Inuyasha and I couldn't figure it out. They seemed to be holding back laughter and looked like they knew something we didn't know. It was super weird.

This afternoon we took them to play by the river and Rin joined us.

"I can't believe there hasn't been any sign of them," she said. She was just as worried as we were.

"I know, it's horrible," I said. "I just hope they're okay."

"What if they don't come back? Then what are you going to do?"

Inuyasha and I hadn't gotten that far. We had hoped that we wouldn't need to get that far.

"We'll decide that later," Inuyasha said. Like me, he was still holding out hope that Miroku and Sango would come home.

"I have another question," Rin said.

"What?"

"Why have Midori and Mieko swapped clothes?" Rin asked.

Inuyasha and I looked at her in shock.

"Are you serious?!" he said.

"Kids, come here!" I called to them. The three of them came over to us and I looked at the twins critically. "Have you two switched clothes?"

"Are you trying to play a trick on us?" Inuyasha asked.

Midori and Mieko gave us innocent looks. "No."

"Yes, they are," Rin said laughing. "See, you can tell. Midori has a birthmark under her eye."

I looked at them more closely. Sure enough, Midori did have a small beauty mark under her right eye.

The girls realized they were found out and they, along with Shinichi who was in on it, started laughing.

"We tricked you!"

"Yeah, you got us really good," Inuyasha said. "Now go finish playing."

They ran off again and Rin continued laughing. "I can't believe you didn't figure it out sooner."

"I don't understand, how are Miroku and Sango ever able to tell them apart?" Inuyasha asked, clearly dumbfounded by this.

"Well they are their kids," Rin pointed out. "I would hope they'd be able to figure it out."
