Chapter 183
"Prepare to jump to hyperspace!"
Laetitia heard Lando shout in the cockpit. After Rex grabbed her and Luke, she left all of them to be alone. She was in the ship with the others ... but she also wasn't.
She was still wrapping her head around everything that happened. Luke lost a hand and officially joined the Skywalkers. Darth Vader tried to kill her friends again. Han ... was gone, and they had no idea how they would ever get him back. And her father ... was the biggest question mark in her mind.
Every belief she had was being challenged. She was ready to kill Darth Vader ... but how could she? How was she supposed to kill him when every single thing he did was her fault?
"He turned to the dark side and killed everyone I loved. He chose power over his own family and tortured them. That is the whole story. I don't care what his reasons were. Doing the right thing the wrong way isn't heroic. It's just wrong ... No one pushed him to turn to the dark side. He fell on his own. He made that decision, not his reasons."
When she remembered her own words, she was unable to stop the tears from coming out. What she even supposed to do? Kill him despite the fact that he became the monster to stop her from becoming one? Or let him live and destroy the entire Galaxy?
What could she do? Be a daughter and protect her father? Or a mother and save his child?
"When you confront your father in the clouds, you will have learned a horrible truth, one that your friends are trying to keep hidden. Do not blame them for doing this. Though they have no right, they are trying to protect you. Had they not done that, this would all be over and this conversation would not be happening."
"You will feel unquenchable pain as this vision becomes reality but you must not weaken."
"Everything will have changed by then. Your family will either be dead or away from you. It will not be your life alone that will be in danger. Remember, when you confront your father, you must think of the life inside you. That life might be the most powerful one existed in the history of all Jedi and Sith."
"All I have ever wanted was to know 'why'. What was SO wrong with me that you turned your back on me, that you abandoned me … But now, I don't care. I just want you gone."
"I want you to be my daughter."
"You would have done the same thing if you were me."
"No! I would NEVER abandon the people that I love and choose power over them. Not like you did!"
"I was forced into the Emperor's hands. I had no other choice!"
"I'm sorry, dad ... but I can't give you what you want."
"Let's be honest. I have lost you. I've lost even myself because I don't know how to live with the darkness I inherited from you, and I don't know how to look into my friends' eyes and tell them my father killed theirs."
"God!" She muttered crying as she put her hands on her ears.
She shrunk herself, closed her eyes and kept sobbing quietly. She wanted the voices to stop. She wanted everything to stop. She didn't want to think about anything. She just wanted to cry.
"Hey!" Ahsoka said in worry as she came closer to her friend, whose face was covered in her hands.
Leah looked up immediately with tears all over her face. She had never felt like this before. Not this ... broken. Not even when Thexan died.
"Are you alright?" Ahsoka asked in concern.
She had never seen Leah like this. Not when Anakin turned to the dark side. Or even when she died. What the hell happened on Dagobah that made her like this? What did she learn?
"Ahsoka ..." She cracked.
"What is it?"
"What if ... dad ..." Leah was slowly saying, but Ahsoka's surprise stopped her from continuing.
"'Dad'? Since when have you called him 'dad'?" She asked in confusion and surprise, but Leah ignored her.
"What if he ... was just a victim? What if he did everything he did because of me? What if I'm the reason Darth Vader is here?" She managed to say.
"What am I supposed to do then?" Leah whispered quietly as she cried out.
She was begging her to say something, anything ... She wanted to know what she was supposed to do. Which made Ahsoka even more confused. What the hell was she talking about?
"Leah, what happened?" She asked.
Leah stiffened to pull herself together. Now wasn't the time to tell Ahsoka about the truth she learned. They were around so many people. She didn't want anyone to know.
Besides, what if she ... hated her? What if when she learned the truth, about how she lost her Master because of her best friend, she wouldn't even look at her? How was she supposed to live with that?
"How's Luke?" She quietly asked to change the subject.
"Rex is with him. He's ... alright ... considering the circumstances."
Luke was in the 'Med Bay' of the Millennium Falcon. His hand was bleeding and it hurt so bad. He didn't have a hand, and that's why it hurt.
He had no idea how his sister went through this when she was only 14 years old. He was 17 years old, but the pain was too much for him. Not that he regretted it, but ... it hurt so bad.
Darth Vader had cut both the hands of the both Skywalker children. It was like he had a grudge against them or something!
"How mad is she?" Luke asked Rex, who had not left his side for a minute.
Rex didn't even need to think to know which 'she' he was talking about. Laetitia would be so, so, emotional when she'd come to see him. He didn't know what, but she was going through something.
"On a scale from 1 to 10? ... About a 100." He shrugged honestly.
Luke groaned loudly in the pain of her sister's pain. Compared to what she was going to do to him, the pain in his hand was nothing.
"I'm dead." He muttered.
Rex just smiled and patted him on the shoulder in sympathy. That was true. Leah would be furious to see her brother hurt. At everyone on her way.
Suddenly, the door of the Med Bay opened and a very angry Laetitia walked in. Luke swallowed hard when he saw her. She was so unfocused that the Force-illusion on her eyes were gone.
That was even scarier.
Rex and Ahsoka both stood out of their way. They did not want to get in the middle of that. They were absolutely scared of a Skywalker's wrath!
"You selfish idiot!" She yelled as she walked closer to Luke.
Luke wanted to back away and get away from her, but there was no room for that! Besides, his hand was still injured.
"What the hell were you thinking, taking on a Sith Lord all by yourself?"
"Leah ..."
"What if I wasn't there? What if he took more than just your hand? What was I supposed to do then?" She asked in sadness covered in anger.
"I know. I'm sorry." Luke quietly said.
He knew why she was mad, but ... why was she mad? He did exactly what she would have done. He had to protect the people he loved. He didn't care about the consequences.
"Did you even think about me for one second about how I'd feel if I lost you, too?" Leah asked with unshed tears in her eyes. She had no tears left.
Luke looked up and just focused his eyes on his sister's. He had never seen her like that. She was truly ... broken. The tortured look on her face was about more than just his hand ... Something had happened to her when she went to see Master Yoda.
He could feel it.
"I know you wanted to do the right thing, and I love you for that ... But I have lost enough people, Luke, and I don't want to lose you." She quietly begged him, finally calming down.
Luke looked down in discomfort. He knew where she was coming from ... and why. Losing your husband on your wedding day was a trauma no one would be able to recover from. Not even a strong person, like Laetitia.
"I'm sorry." He quietly said.
Leah exhaled deeply to calm down. She had lost it there for a second. That was ... harsher than she intended. But she couldn't help it. She was one second away from losing her mind.
"Are you alright?" She tiredly asked.
"Yeah ... Mostly humiliated." Luke muttered in shame, but Leah scoffed.
"Luke, you just had your first duel with a Force-sensitive, one of the most powerful and ruthless ones at that, and you only lost a hand. You should be lucky that you're even breathing right now!" Leah stated to cheer him up.
Luke smiled at Leah's effort. That was so true. Darth Vader was as ruthless and powerful as they'd come. He was basically the best.
Once the tension was over, Ahsoka and Rex walked slowly to them. Now, they could talk. It didn't take a genius to figure out that there was something off with Leah. She was ... different.
But why?
"I lost a hand." Luke said as he sighed, looking at his lost hand.
"Well ... welcome to the Skywalker family." Leah sarcastically said.
This time, everyone laughed. Rex and Ahsoka knew from experience what sh was talking about. Now, Luke was officially a Skywalker. Every true Skywalker should lose a hand first to be able to call themselves a 'Skywalker'.
"Thanks?" Luke unsurely said.
"I'm here for you, buddy. When we get back to the Base ..." Leah was saying, but she paused as she realized her mistake.
She turned to the others, not knowing how to feel.
"Do we ... have a Base anymore?" She asked Ahsoka, which she responded with a heavy sigh.
"No ... we do not." Rex quietly answered for her.
Leah inhaled deeply as she closed her eyes. She was gone for only a few days, and her father destroyed an entire base to get to her.
"Anyway, when we get to somewhere, I'll fix you up with the newest model. With a skin and everything." She said to change the mood.
She would ask Ahsoka later about the details of what happened. How many they had lost and where they were gonna go. But now wasn't the time.
"But you don't have a skin." Luke stated.
"I don't want to. But if you want, you can have it. It's up to you."
Luke shook his head, appreciating everything she was doing. It felt really good to have her there with him. He didn't know what he would do without her. She was both his sister and his mother.
His family ...
Han ... The last thing he knew was that Han was frozen in the Carbonite right in front of them. He had let that happen to him. He wasn't strong enough to protect him.
"Hey ... Where's ...?" Luke slowly trailed off, unable to say his name.
Leah sighed deeply as she looked down. She knew exactly who he was asking for.
"Han's gone. We were too late." She quietly said, which caused Luke to sigh deeply while holding in the tears.
"This is all my fault."
"You did everything you could do to save him. If it's anyone's fault, it's ..."
"Darth Vader's." Luke angrily finished Ahsoka's sentence.
Normally, Leah would be ... glad to see Darth Vader being hated. And yes, it was his fault to an extent ... But was it? Besides, Luke's anger towards Vader was very dangerous. It reminded all of them of Anakin.
"I'm sorry." Luke quietly said as he looked down.
Leah blinked to pull herself together. Her mind was trailing off to her father again. She needed to think of something else.
"Why?" She asked.
"I was supposed to protect him when you were gone. Protect everyone ... But I failed." He sincerely apologized.
Leah sighed as she closed her eyes. They had lost a lot of people when she was gone for only a few days ... but it wasn't his fault. Luke did everything he could do. She just smiled and put her hand on his shoulder.
She was really out of energy to say what she wanted to say.
Done :)
