October 8
I've been having a hard time sleeping over the past couple of nights. I think part of it has to do with me being in my third trimester of pregnancy and the other part of it is worrying about Miroku and Sango.
Kaede came by the day after we got our pumpkins.
"Do you like our pumpkins, Kaede?" Mieko asked her as she came inside.
"They're amazing," Kaede replied.
"Auntie Kagome says they're called jacky lanterns," Midori said.
Kaede laughed. "I see. They're really cool."
The kids went to play some more and Kaede sat with us at the kitchen table eager for any update to what was going on with Miroku and Sango. We told her everything Kohaku had told us and that we'd been waiting to hear back from him ever since.
"That is quite upsetting," Kaede said full of concern. "How have the children been taking it?"
"They miss them so much," I replied. "They keep asking about them. I don't know what we're going to tell them if this goes on much longer."
"I agree, it will be very hard to explain everything to them."
"We've decided that if Miroku and Sango don't come back, we'll become their guardians," Inuyasha said.
"Really?" Kaede said in surprise. "That's very noble of you."
"We felt like that's what Miroku and Sango would want us to do," I said.
"That's going to be a lot for you when your baby comes along."
"Yeah, we're already exhausted," Inuyasha said. "But it's alright. The kids will need us if it comes to that."
"I sincerely hope that it doesn't come to that," Kaede said. "But on that chance that it does happen, just remember that you have a lot of people around to support you. We will all raise the children together."
It's hard to accept the possibility that Miroku and Sango won't come back, however, it is comforting to know that Kaede and the rest of our friends would be by our side to deal with such a difficult situation if it did happen.
Today the kids were very restless. I had a massive headache from my pregnancy this morning so Inuyasha took the kids out for a walk. Apparently they ran into Sesshomaru while they were gone and somehow convinced him to let them play in his fluff. I'm not sure how they convinced him to let them but I kind of wished I had been there to see it.
While they were gone I took a nap but when I woke up they were still gone and I thought it would be a fun idea to have them do arts and crafts so I laid out some paper, paint, and crayons for them.
When they got back, they were super enthusiastic about it and they were eager to get started when they sat at the table.
"Good idea, baby," Inuyasha said to me as the kids settled at the table started picking out their colors.
"I figured this will keep them occupied for a while," I replied.
"I wanna make a card for mommy and daddy for when they get back," Mieko said.
"That's a really good idea, Mieko," I said to her. Shinichi and Midori decided to do the same and the three of them got to work. Meanwhile, Inuyasha and I sat across from them and watched.
When Midori finished working on her card, she started to make another one.
"What are you making now, Midori?" I asked her.
"I'm making a card for you and Uncle Inuyasha," she replied.
"Really?" he said.
"I want you to have one too because you're nice and I want you to know how much I love you."
I felt like I wanted to cry. These children were so sweet and pure. I reached out and gave her a hug. "We love you too, Midori. Thank you so much."
After they were done with their cards, we put them in a safe place so they would be ready to give to Miroku and Sango whenever they came home. We also hung the card for us up on the wall. Shinichi and Mieko had contributed to it as well. I wanted to save it for the rest of our lives.
This evening was a little chaotic though. Inuyasha and I were giving the kids baths and had the three of them in our bathtub.
These kids really enjoyed baths and they always wanted to stay in longer than they needed to. Midori and Mieko tried to have a splash fight last week but we quickly shut that down because we would have had to clean that up afterward.
Tonight, Shinichi thought it would be fun to jump out of the bathtub and run off.
"Hey, Shinichi!" I exclaimed.
"Come here you!" Inuyasha said as he made a grab for him. To be only a year old, Shinichi was pretty quick and managed to slip out of Inuyasha's hands.
Midori and Mieko were now laughing hysterically as Shinichi ran out of the bathroom and Inuyasha chased after him. A few minutes later he came back carrying Shinichi who looked triumphant.
After we got them cleaned up, Inuyasha read them a bedtime story. They like when Inuyasha reads from the Disney storybook because of the voices he does.
It was such a cute sight to see Inuyasha sitting on the bed reading Peter Pan with Midori sitting on his lap and Mieko and Shinichi sitting next to him listening intently and yawning every now and then. I couldn't help but smile.
It's certainly been difficult having three children in our house and having to adapt to how to take care of them full time. No matter how hard it's been or how tired we are though, moments like that make it all worth it. It makes me even more eager for me and Inuyasha's child to be born. Whether we end up taking in Miroku and Sango's kids or not, our baby will definitely be in good company with them around.
