Olenna sat miserably in her study, listening to the sounds of steel upon steel and roars of conflict outside. Mace and the Tyrell soldiers were trying to fight off the attacking Lannister forces. She wished she could help, but she had to admit that although she was sure to come off first in any battle of wits, she was useless when it came to an actual battle. All she could do was hope that her family would triumph over the hated Lannisters.

At last, the noise of battle diminished, and she heard feet stomping toward her room. She saw the doorknob jiggle as someone tried to open the door, but it was locked.

"Stand aside, I'll get it open!" shouted a voice. Next moment, an axeblade smashed through the door, and Olenna glimpsed the face of Bane the fox.

Bane kept hacking at the door until it fell off its hinges with a crash. Olenna saw Jaime Lannister standing next to Bane in the doorway, with his purple skin and his tentacle arm. Quite the hideous sight. It was hard to believe there had been a time when people thought he was handsome.

Jaime and Bane stepped over the fallen door and into the room. "Hello, Kingslayer," said Olenna. "Did you bring your delightful… nephew… with you?"

The way she said it, Jaime could tell she was insinuating that Joffrey was more than just his nephew. "Joffrey remained at home in King's Landing," he said.

Olenna snorted. "Typical of him to stay behind and let others fight on his behalf. I suppose your presence here means that my son has been defeated?"

"He's dead," Jaime admitted.

Olenna's eyes blazed. "If Loras had been here, we would have won. But you already took care of him, didn't you, and Margaery too."

"I had nothing to do with Loras and Margaery's deaths," Jaime said.

"Oh, that's right," said Olenna. "It wasn't you who ordered their executions, it was your… nephew." Again, she paused before she said the word nephew.

"I know you killed Cersei," Jamie told her.

"I was trying to kill Joffrey," Olenna said. "But I'm not sorry that your foul sister ended up drinking the poison. She was a monster and so are you."

"That's a matter of opinion," said Jaime.

"So, how do you intend to kill me?" Olenna asked.

Jaime said, "Joffrey would have wanted you whipped and beheaded, or flayed alive and hanged, but I've chosen to offer you a kinder death." With his human hand, he took a vial from his pocket. "This is poison, but not the same kind you gave Cersei. It's much quicker acting and much less painful."

Olenna took the vial of poison from him. "Might as well. I've lost everything else, why not my life too?"

She drank the poison, and almost instantly slumped forward onto the table she was sitting at.

Jaime and Bane stood in silence for a moment. Then Bane turned to Jaime and said, "Hey, Lannister, when am I gonna get my reward for everything I've done for your family?"

"We'll discuss that later," Jaime told him.

"No, I wanna talk about it now! When your brother Tyrion first hired me, he promised to grant me and my foxes the Vale. Now Tyrion's fightin' on the other side, and I still haven't gotten shit! Maybe if I joined up with Daenerys Targaryen, I'd be treated better."

"Don't do that," said Jaime wearily. "I promise, when the war is over, you can have your own castle, any castle you choose. A Lannister…"

"…always pays his debts, yeah, yeah, I know," Bane finished. "I'm still waitin' for my debt to be repaid after all this time. Why can't I just have this castle, right now?"

"Because Highgarden requires significant upkeep, and Daenerys could arrive at any moment to take it back," Jaime explained. "Our orders were to slay the Tyrells quickly, and then return to King's Landing."

"Those orders came from the worst king Westeros ever had," said Bane. "Why are we followin' Joffrey? Y'know, it strikes me that somebody could solve a lot of problems by slippin' a blade between his ribs. Why don't you do it? It wouldn't be your first time killin' a king. If you killed a second king, you'd be immortal! The singers would write ballads about you forever!"

"Joffrey may be evil, but he's my blood," said Jaime. "I can't betray him."

Bane looked at him curiously. "You're awfully attached to this nephew of yours, aren't you? Or could it be… that he ain't really your nephew? Could it be that Joffrey is actually your son? And maybe those other two kids, Myrcella and Tommen, are your children too?" Jaime didn't answer, but the look on his face told Bane he was right. "Joffrey doesn't know, does he?"

"No," said Jaime. He slammed Bane against the wall with his good hand. "And if you ever tell anyone, I'll kill you!"

Bane laughed and wriggled out of Jaime's grasp. "I'm not scared of you, Jaime Lannister. If you ever try to kill me, you'll be the one who ends up dead."
