Chapter 189
After having that awful conversation with Arcann, Laetitia ran out of the cell to be alone. As soon as she entered the room, she fell on the ground, crying quietly in pain. She was in so much pain. Arcann's voice was ringing through her ears.
"Isn't that why you hate me? Not because I took him from you, but ... 'cause I remind you of him?"
"You have given up."
"You are crawling into your little hole, and slowly dying away."
"You are hollow."
"Thexan would be sick to see you right now! He would be disgusted."
"He would question his love for you."
Leah tried to stop the tears, but she was powerless against them. The pain she was feeling in her heart was too much. It was so much that she could even feel the baby's pain for her mother.
She was in pain because her mother was in pain.
The reason why Leah was this affected by what Arcann told her was because they were all ... true. She hated him for telling her the truth. She knew that he wrapped the truth in a way that would ruin her the most. That was the gift he inherited from his father.
Use the truth to manipulate the person.
But that didn't make it any less true. Every single word Arcann told her was true. They were like daggers piercing her heart and ripping it to pieces. She already knew every single thing he told her, but hearing it and knowing it were ... two completely different things.
When Luke saw the open door, he ran to the room and found his sister crying on the ground. He had never seen her like that, even when Thexan died.
"I heard you went to see Arcann ... You alright?" He foolishly asked.
He didn't even know why he was asking that. It was obvious that she was NOT okay. Just one look and he could see that she was a wreck. Leah tried to pull herself together to answer, but she couldn't not cry.
"No." She stiffened quietly.
"Luke, I spent the past few months angry, enraged at everyone. Darth Sidious, Darth Vader, Arcann, myself, even Thexan, for being so brave and selfless." She chuckled wryly.
"But ... I'm not angry. I'm just guilty ... I wanted to blame Arcann. And I will, but ... I just wanna blame someone, anyone. But the truth is, my husband died because he loved me ... And loving a Skywalker is a death sentence, isn't it?" She bitterly stated as she cried out.
Luke didn't say anything and just looked down in confusion and sadness. He had no idea what she was talking about.
'Loving a Skywalker is a death sentence ...'
What did that mean? There are only 4 true Skywalkers. Shmi Skywalker, Anakin Skywalker, Laetitia Skywalker, and Luke Skywalker.
He knew that their grandmother, Shmi, died when she was captured by the Sand People. And Shmi's husband, Cliegg Lars, Owen's father died shortly after that because he was broken after his wife's death.
And their mother, Padme, died in childbirth, when she was giving birth to Luke. According to his sister, Anakin was killed in action when Order 66 was executed. Their mother would have had no idea that their father was dead because she died before she found out.
Was that not the case? What was Leah talking about? How did their father cause their mother to die?
"You're not gonna kill him." Luke finally stated.
He knew there were a few things he needed to find out about their past. Padme's, Anakin's, and Laetitia's ... But this wasn't the time to ask this. He decided to wait for her to tell him the big secret she had been keeping since before they even met on the Death Star.
"What are you gonna do with him, then?" He asked.
Leah stiffened as she pulled herself together. Curiosity was shining in Luke's blue eyes.
"The worst idea I've ever had."
Laetitia was in the 'Command Center' of the Rebel Outpost. After crying her eyes out, she finally made a decision. She was holding a tablet, putting in the data, when Ahsoka ran to her and pushed her aside.
"Leah! I just heard from Senator Mothma. You're putting a transfer order together?" She asked.
Leah sighed as she freed herself from Ahsoka's grab. She tiredly turned away from her, continuing what she was doing. She had a bad feeling about this.
"Yeah." She simply replied.
"Who's the prisoner?" Ahsoka suspiciously asked.
Leah didn't say anything. She visibly flinched at the thought who it was. When she saw that, Ahsoka knew that her worst fears came true. That was not possible. Had Leah lost her mind? How could she even think of letting someone like him go?!
"No. Absolutely not!" She hissed in warning.
"Ahsoka ..."
"No one knows he's here. His capture's been kept a secret from the Empire and the Rebellion. Where are you gonna transfer him?"
"I'm doing the transfer myself with Rex alone. And we're not going to another prison."
"Then what are you gonna do?" Ahsoka asked in mild-anger. Was she losing her mind?!
"We're going to Sorgan." Leah quietly said.
"Sorgan? The forested planet the Empire doesn't want anything to do with? It's filled with farmers." Ahsoka stated in confusion to make sure she was right.
"Yeah. It's the perfect place for him. There's no Star Port, no Industrial Centers, no population density. The Empire's not gonna find him there because they've forgotten it exists in the first place." Leah explained tiredly.
"We can just execute him for war crimes. Or keep him prisoner until we can hold a trial for him. Why are you hiding him in the perfect place? Don't tell me you've actually forgiven him."
"You're the one who suggested it." She muttered quietly to say something, She, too, was shocked she was doing this.
"I was kidding, Leah!" Ahsoka screamed.
With her scream, she attracted everyone's attention in the room. Leah cursed under her breath as she pushed her aside. She was basically committing a crime. How could Ahsoka yell about it?
"What, you really think I can forgive him? Arcann is a monster, and he's terrible things to me and our friends. And I hate him for that!" Leah snapped whispery at her friend.
"Then why are you saving him and sending him somewhere the Empire will never find him?"
Leah swallowed hard and took a minute to answer that.
"Because ... he's the only one who truly understood how much it hurt to lose Thexan ... And as crazy as it sounds … that's enough for me to not kill him." She chuckled wryly as a tear fell down from her eyes.
Ahsoka opened her mouth to say something, but no words came out. What could she say? She was friends with Thexan, but she wasn't as close to him as Leah was. No one was ... Except Arcann.
He really was the only one, besides Leah, who was suffering as much as her ... Maybe even more. How could she compete with that?
"I'm sending him to Sorgan because I'll use him later. I'm sending him there for a reason." Leah finally said.
"What? What are you gonna use him for?"
"You'll find out soon enough."
On Sorgan
When they landed the ship on the forested planet Sorgan, Laetitia dragged Arcann out of the ship. Rex followed them closely with the blaster. He was clearly upset why Leah was saving him. But he didn't protest and just trusted his General. He didn't know the reason, but he trusted Leah enough to let it go.
Arcann thought she brought him to an off-site planet to be away from the Rebels. He thought she was going to kill him, to his relief. But he couldn't make sense of the look on Rex's face. He was in a bad mood, clearly disagreeing about something with his Leader.
Why was he upset he was dying?
Leah suddenly stopped, which caused Arcann to stop. He looked ahead in confusion. There was a brunette woman in front of them. She looked to be a farmer or a worker living on that planet.
Who was she? What was she doing there? What did Leah want with a civilian?
"Omera." Leah smiled warmly when she saw the woman.
Her hand was still on Arcann, not letting him go. The way she grabbed his hand was basically forcing him to play along. Arcann had no choice but to look away in disinterest. Why couldn't she just kill him and get it over with?
Omera replied with a smile as she walked closer to her. Leah was there when her husband died at the hands of the Empire. She couldn't save her husband, but she made sure that Omera and her child, Winta, were alive and safe. She and her daughter were alive,t hanks to Laetitia Skywalker.
"General Skywalker ..." She was saying, but she stopped when she saw the look Leah was giving her.
"Leah ... Sorry." She chuckled.
"What is she?" Arcann bluntly asked.
Leah sighed. She then chuckled in anger as she tightened her grip on him to shut him up. He just couldn't not talk! Especially when she needed him to shut up.
"Like I'm gonna tell you!" She glared him with her eyes and kept his mouth shut.
"I prepared what you asked for. His lodging is in my tribe. He'll stay close to us." Omera said to break up whatever it was between Leah and Arcann.
Leah smiled in appreciation as she sighed. She was grateful that Omera decided to help her. She didn't know the details of what Leah was doing or who Arcann really was. But she was no idiot.
She knew that he was an Imperial, one Leah hated so much. When she asked for her help, Omera wanted to refuse. That man was clearly dangerous. But it was Leah ... She trusted her, so she let that man stay. He was an Imperial and everyone's enemy ... but she would do this for her friend and savior.
"I'll talk to you later. I'm just gonna show your 'guest' his new 'home'." Leah said as she dragged Arcann away from them.
Laetitia showed Arcann his new home. It was a very comfortable and beautiful for a cell. He and everyone else knew that he didn't deserve that. What was she doing?
When they reached the lodging, Leah finally let go of him and took a step away from him.
"I don't get it." Arcann started.
"That's nothing new." Leah commented sarcastically.
"Why'd you bring me here? How do you know I won't kill that woman and everyone on my way?" He asked in confusion as he ignored her comment.
Leah sighed. She, too, wasn't convinced that Arcann wouldn't kill everyone, and run away from him ... At the same time, she was. Or she hoped. She ... trusted him. She was willing to trust him. That was the right thing to do ... right?
"I don't ... I'm hoping you won't ... because you love Thexan. He trusted you, so ..." She trailed off as she walked away from him to hide her tears.
Now, Arcann was more confused than ever. Laetitia Skywalker trusted him? She actually believed in him? The same Laetitia Skywalker that he tortured for 3 years? The one that wanted him dead for all the horrible things he'd done?
She was ...
"Why are you saving me?" He blurted out.
"Excuse me?"
"I came to you because I knew you'd want me dead for what I did, more than anyone else. But why aren't you killing me?" He asked in unintentional anger.
Leah scoffed in anger and irritation.
"Oh, trust me. I want to ... But consider this my new way of torturing you. You wanna die because you killed your brother. I get that, and I want you to die ... but I need something from you." She said with anger in her tone. She didn't like the idea of 'needing' anything from an animal like her brother-in-law.
"What? I'll give you anything as long as you end my life." He eagerly said.
"I'm pregnant." Leah quickly said and paused.
Arcann couldn't help but blink in surprise, shock, happiness, confusion, and ... sadness.
He hadn't felt that in the Force. He remembered that the Dark Jedi he killed on Takodana mentioned something about killing a baby. But he had no idea that 'the baby' was his brother's child.
The real question was that why was Leah trusting him with that information? Wasn't he the last person who was supposed to know that? He killed that baby's father, and made sure they never met each other in this life.
He had no right to know that.
"I am not going to explain to my child how her uncle killed her father. You are ... Until that day comes, you're gonna have to do exactly as I tell you." She firmly said.
"And if you think I've forgiven you, don't be delusional. I will never forgive you for killing Thexan. I will always hate you, and will be the death of you someday." She coldly stated.
"But I'm not gonna kill you. I won't let my lightsaber be stained by your dirty blood. I'll make sure you do it yourself. I promise you, I will wreck and destroy your world. At the end, the only way to end your pathetic life ... will be by your hands." She quietly hissed in hatred.
"And the last face you will see ... will be mine." Leah promised him venomously.
Arcann didn't say anything and just looked down. What she was doing wasn't mercy. It was the opposite. It was payback for the pain he put her through. Even for her, that was ... cruel. She saw right through his scheme to kill him and end his pain. She wasn't gonna let him get away with murdering her husband.
Whatever happening today, he knew that once day, he would die because of Laetitia Skywalker.
Done :)
