December 23
It's been quite a learning curve for Yasha and I as we adjust to being new parents.
For one thing, getting used to a new sleep schedule has left us extremely tired. It's not easy to have to wake up every few hours when Moroha needs something. Our days have consisted of everything from feeding her, changing diapers, giving her baths, and just keeping her entertained and happy.
Another thing we've had to adjust to is deciphering why she's crying. This morning, in particular, Yasha and I were at a loss and tried everything we could. I was walking back and forth across the main room rocking her while Inuyasha was throwing out ideas.
"I don't understand. You've fed her already, she's been changed...maybe she's cold!"
"We've already put more clothes on her and wrapped her in a blanket," I pointed out.
"Then maybe she's too hot."
So we took the blanket off her but she was still crying. We passed her back and forth between us but nothing seemed to help.
"I don't understand," I said in frustration.
"Why can't babies talk?" Inuyasha said, just as frustrated.
Then all of a sudden she stopped. We glanced down at her in his arms and she was asleep. Then we looked at each other.
"So that's it? She was tired?" Inuyasha said.
"I guess so." I sighed. "The important thing is she's stopped crying."
We put her to bed and afterward I yawned.
"Looks like Moroha isn't the only one that's tired," Inuyasha said as he put his arms around me. There was a slight smirk on his face that made me laugh.
"I just hope one day I'll be able to catch up on all the sleep I've missed," I said, yawning again. "I think I'm going to go back to bed. Moroha has the right idea."
"I'll join you. I don't remember the last time I was this tired."
With that, the two of us went to bed and we were out in seconds. It was the most blissful few hours of sleep until Moroha was up again in the afternoon.
Inuyasha made lunch for us while I was feeding her and as we were sitting down at the table to eat with her in my lap sucking her thumb I thought of a good way to spend the rest of the day.
"Inuyasha, I think this would be a good time to introduce her to everyone, don't you?"
"I agree, I'm sure they're all dying to meet her."
So after we had lunch, Inuyasha went to go get our friends while I sat with Moroha. Soon he came back with Miroku and Sango and their kids who were extremely excited to see her.
"Kids, what did we say about being quiet and gentle?" Miroku reminded them.
They immediately remembered and calmed down as they gathered around to see Moroha who looked at all of them curiously.
"She's so pretty!" Midori said.
"She doesn't have doggie ears," Mieko said with disappointment.
I giggled. "That's okay."
"How about you give them the pictures you made?" Sango said to them.
So the three of them handed up drawings they made of us and Moroha. "Aww, these are so sweet!" I exclaimed.
"Thank you guys," Inuyasha said, giving them hugs. "We'll hang them up on the wall next to your other ones."
"She's absolutely adorable," Sango said as she gazed at Moroha.
"Can we hold her?" Miroku asked.
"Of course," I replied.
I handed her to Sango first since she was closest to me. "You are just the cutest little thing," she said to Moroha.
"How's everything been going with you three?" Miroku asked as he looked over Sango's shoulder at her.
"Perfect," Inuyasha said. He was standing next to our friends and he'd had a happy smile on his face this whole time.
"Does she cry a lot?" Sango asked.
"Eh, sort of."
Miroku laughed a bit as Sango handed her to him. "And so it begins."
"How have you been feeling, Kagome?" Sango asked.
"Tired, every inch of my body is sore," I replied as Miroku handed Moroha back to Inuyasha. He sat down next to me and I kissed him. "But I couldn't be happier."
Inuyasha kissed me back. "Same here, love."
Shortly after, there was a knock on the door and Shippo and Rin were here. The two of them were also very eager to see Moroha.
"She's so cute!" Rin said as she and Shippo gathered around to see her. "I love that she has your eyes, Inuyasha."
"I do too," I replied as I kissed Moroha's forehead.
"She's so tiny," Shippo said.
Inuyasha laughed. "She won't stay tiny for long."
"Enjoy it while you can," Miroku said as he picked up his own son. "They grow up way too fast."
"Can I hold her?" Rin asked.
"Sure," Inuyasha said as he handed her to Rin.
"You know, she may have your eyes but it's a good thing she ended up looking more like Kagome," Shippo said.
The next thing he knew, Inuyasha punched him and he fell off the couch. I couldn't help but giggle a bit. Shippo should have expected that.
"Clearly becoming a father hasn't made you more sensitive…" Shippo said, rubbing his head.
"I don't know, I still think she kind of looks more like Inuyasha," Sango said.
"I agree," Miroku said, looking back and forth between the three of us. "She has Kagome's hair but she has Inuyasha's everything else."
"I still think she looks more like Kagome," Rin said. "She has Kagome's nose."
It seemed we were at an impasse on which of us Moroha resembled more. I guess time will tell.
There was another knock on the door. Shippo went to get it for us and it turned out to be Sesshomaru and Jaken. "Hey, Sesshomaru, how did you know we were all here?"
"Because Lord Sesshomaru knows everything," Jaken said with a smirk.
"There was a different scent in the air," Sesshomaru replied. "I see you've had the baby."
"Isn't she cute, Lord Sesshomaru?" Rin said as she came over to him with Moroha. "We were just talking about who she looks more like. What do you think?"
Sesshomaru studied her for a moment. "I would say Kagome."
"Told you!" Shippo said to everyone who thought she looked more like Inuyasha.
Sesshomaru glanced at us. "May I hold her?"
"Of course," Inuyasha replied.
Rin handed her to Sesshomaru and he took her gently as if he were holding a precious diamond.
"What's her name?" he asked.
"Moroha," I said.
"That's beautiful. She's a beautiful little girl." He held her for a while as she looked at him with those wide eyes. A smile spread across his face as he looked at her...at least until she started pulling his hair.
Inuyasha laughed as he took her back. "Alright sweetie, no need to pull Uncle Fluffy's hair out."
Sesshomaru glared at him. "Uncle Fluffy? Seriously?"
"If I have to be Doggie Uncle, then you get to be Uncle Fluffy." His smirk widened as Sesshomaru looked even more annoyed.
