January 3

The new year has brought lots of snow with it. It's been snowing on and off for the past three days straight. It stopped this morning but it was incredibly cold in the house when we woke up.

"Damn, it's freezing in here," Inuyasha mumbled.

"So cold…" I said pulling our three thick blankets closer around me and cuddling up to him.

Inuyasha suddenly became rigid. "Oh no!"

"What?" I said, thinking something was wrong. "What happened?"

"Moroha is probably freezing to death!" He quickly sat up and both of us went over to her bed concerned that she was too cold but it looked like we didn't need to be concerned. We had given her extra blankets as well and she was fast asleep completely oblivious to how cold it was.

Inuyasha and I both sighed with relief.

"Thank goodness," I said.

"I'm still kind of worried about her though," Inuyasha said.

As gently as possible he took her out of her bed and brought her over to ours. We lay back down, Inuyasha had her laying on his chest, and we put our blankets over her. Miraculously, she didn't wake up. He put his arm around me as well and I snuggled as close as I could.

"This is much better," he said, fully satisfied now.

I thoroughly agreed. This was the perfect way to warm up.

Later this afternoon, I had put Moroha down for a nap. Inuyasha was sitting on the floor with me helping me fold laundry while the fire blazed in front of us.

"One day, the first thing she's going to do when she sees snow like this is run outside and play," Inuyasha said.

"She'll be in good company with Miroku and Sango's kids. I'm sure that's what they're doing right now," I said laughing at the thought. "Snow days were always fun in my era, especially on a school day. Sota and I would sit by the TV waiting for them to announce on the news that school was closed. As soon as they did it was a big celebration."

"What would you do if they said school wasn't closed?"

"Then we'd be really disappointed."

Inuyasha laughed. "I'm sure. Then you'd have to take those stupid tests."

"It was the worst. One day I was supposed to have this big exam and it snowed but unfortunately, it didn't snow enough to have a day off." I finished folding the last of the laundry. "Looks like we're done."

"Good, you know what that means?"

"What?" I said suspiciously.

"It means it's time for fun."

I giggled as Inuyasha climbed on top of me and started tickling me. "Inuyasha! You weirdo, you're going to wake up Moroha."

"Don't worry, Kagome. She's fast asleep."

I believe him. With his ears, we certainly didn't need a baby monitor to know whether Moroha was still asleep or not.

Instead of continuing to tickle me, he started kissing me. I gladly wrapped my arms and legs around him, trying to draw him closer to me. I wanted to make love to him so badly but I knew I still wasn't ready.

"Meow."

We broke our kiss at the sound of Nico sitting next to us. He looked kind of sad.

"Hey Nico, why are you so down?" Inuyasha asked.

The two of us sat up and I pulled Nico into my lap. "He has seemed a little upset lately. Do you think he's sick?"

"I don't know. He's been eating well and he hasn't been sleeping too much."

Then something occurred to me. "Inuyasha, do you think Nico feels lonely?"

"Why do you think that?"

"Think about it; before Moroha was born Nico was like our baby. Now we spend all of our time with her. Maybe he feels a little bad."

"Aw Nico, we're sorry," Inuyasha said as he ran his hand up and down Nico's back. "You're still our baby too."

I kissed Nico's nose. "Just because we have a newborn now doesn't mean we love you any less."

After that Nico started purring. I was glad that he seemed a lot happier. Nico is part of our family too, after all. We want him to feel just as loved as he always has.
