The sun hasn't quite set when she pops out on her side of the well.
"Kagome!" Her mother comes rushing out of the house, her excitement palpable as she dries her hands and sweeps her up into a hug. "I didn't realize you were coming back."
Try as she might, Kagome knows it doesn't reach her eyes when she smiles back. "Plans changed."
"Well, I'm glad you're here." Mama's is gentle, but her eyes are shrewd as she squeezes her hand. "What do you say to a little shopping tonight. Just you and me?"
Kagome squeezes back. "I'd like that."
