Episode 355: The Solaceon Contest!
It was now the day of the Solaceon Pokémon Contest. Sora and Kairi were getting set for their own training. Kairi might have missed her chance to partake in the upcoming Contest, but the least. Since found out that Maylene is using Fighting Type Pokémon, he figured he would go wth Flying, Psychic, and Fairy Types. He exchanged Thwackey, Drizzile, Gible, and Luxio for Turtwig, Prinplup, Chimchar, and Moregrem. Kairi exchanged Jolteon and Granbull for Buneary and Pachirisu.
Sora thought it would be a good idea for Turtwig to learn how to use Energy Ball after witnessing Kenny use it in their last battle. Sora had Turtwig out to learn it as Kairi, Ventus, Angel, Meowth, Raboot, Chimchar, Prinplup, Moregrem, Buneary, Pachirisu, Vulpix, Sandshrew, Bibarel, and the Digimon were all watching the show.
"Okay, Turtwig, it's time to learn how to use Energy Ball. Just focus and you'll be able to pull it off. I know you can do it," Sora said.
"Pika!" Pikachu said. All of the Pokémon all voiced their opinions.
"See? Even they believe in you," Sora said.
"Twig," Turtwig said. Turtwig had to try and learn how to use Energy Ball. Turtwig opened his mouth and got set to fire Energy Ball. Turtwig tried to pull it off, but had no luck in doing so.
"Keep on trying, Turtwig. I know you can do it," Sora said. And that's what Turtwig did. Kenny had just shown up and he witnessed it.
"What's he doing?" Kenny asked.
"He's trying to get Turtwig to use Energy Ball," Aqua spoke up. She and Terra were coming back with some refreshments.
"Energy Ball? Really?" Kenny asked.
"Sora thought of the idea after he witnessed your Breloom use it in your battle," Terra said.
"So, he got up earlier to get it done. Kairi too," Aqua said.
"Has he always been wanting to be ready for anything?" Kenny asked.
"Pretty much since Sora and Kairi's journey in the Johto region. Sora thought of the idea since they wanted to be ready for anything like Team Rocket or an Ultra Beast," Terra explained. Kenny looked at them oddly. Knowing he never heard of Team Rocket or an Ultra Beast, Terra simply said, "Long story."
Over to Riku, Naminé, Eevee, Azurill, Guilmon, Terriermon, Renamon, Lopmon, Gaomon, and Lalamon, they made a stop somehwere by a pond and had some water. As they did, they were encountered by yellow Luxio and growled at them.
"A Luxio," Riku said. He looked right at his partner. "Eevee, move right in."
"Vee," Eevee said.
Luxio came at Eevee with a Thunder Fang and came down at the evolution Pokémon to land a hit.
"Dig!" Riku ordered. Eevee dug into the ground as Luxio misses Eevee. Luxio looks around for Eevee. Eevee jumps right up and lands a hit onto Luxio. "All right, Eevee! use Shadow Ball!" Eevee forms Shadow Ball and sends right at Luxio. Luxio had been taken down. Riku took out a Pokéball and threw it. Luxio flows inside it and wobbles around and around. Stars swirls around the Pokéball to confirm the catch. Riku walked over to Luxio's Pokéball and takes it. "Got me a Luxio."
"Congrats, Riku," Naminé praised. RIku smiled as he hugged her. The Digimon smiled.
Back in Solaceon Town, a trainer, wearing a cowboy getup walked over to Sora.
"Hey you! You're that Sora Ketchum feller, ain't ya?" The cowboy asked.
"Yeah, why?" Sora asked.
"I wanna battle ya! Let's make it a double battle! I got me the meanest Ground Type ya could ever see!" The cowboy said, holding out two Pokéballs.
"Sure. I can take you on that, partner," Sora said.
"Yee-haw! Let's go!" The cowboy shouted, throwing his two Pokéballs. "Hippowdon, Gastrodon! Go for it!" The Pokéballs opens and unleashed two Pokémon. One is a Pokémon that resembles a large hippopotamus. It has light brown skin and has a dark gray back and muzzle with several holes in them. The other is a Pokémon that resembles a large sea slug. is brown pink, with bumps and pink spots on its back. It has four tentacles on its head, resembling rhinophores and oral tentacles. It has three oval-shaped black eyes and a yellow stripe that forms the edge of the mantle skirt Sora took out his Pokédex and scanned the Pokémon.
Hippowdon, the Heavyweight Pokémon
The evolved form of Hippopotas
Type: Ground
It blasts internally stored sand from ports on its body to create a towering twister for attack. Its huge mouth is almost seven feet across. It has enough power to completely crush a car.

The evolved form of Shellos West Sea Form
Type: Water/Ground
It has strong regenerative capabilities. Even if parts of it are bitten off by fish Pokémon, it will return to normal within a few hours. Plankton, invisible to the naked eye, is its main food source. It comes onto the land periodically, but the reason for this is not known.
Sora puts his Pokédex away and looked towards Turtwig and Prinplup.
"Okay, Prinplup, Turtwig, you're going right in!" Sora said.
"Plup," Prinplup said.
"Twig," Turtwig said.
Both of Sora's Pokémon went on the battlefield to battle the two Ground Types. The cowboy simply laughed.
"I figured you would use a Water Type and a Grass Type to send against my Ground Types. I was well-prepared for that. Hippowdon! Thunder Fang! Gastrodon! Ice Beam!" Hippowdon comes at Prinplup with Thunder Fang as Gastrodon fires Ice Beam at Turtwig.
"Turtwig, Prinplup! Dodge them both!" Sora called out. Turtwig and Prinplup avoids them both. "Prinplup! Use Hydro Pump on Hippowdon! Turtwig! Use Razor Leaf on Gastrodon!" Prinplup fires Hydro Pump first as Turtwig fires Razor Leaf.
"Gastrodon! Block that with Muddy Water!" The cowboy ordered. Gastrodon fires Muddy Water to block Razor Leaf and Hydro Pump. Muddy Water blocks them completely. "Now, use Fire Fang on Turtwig!" Hippowdon charges to deliever Fire Fang.
"Dodge it, Turtwig!" Sora called out as Turtwig jumps out of the way. The cowboy grinned.
"Gotcha! Sandstorm!" The cowboy ordered as Hippowdon fires Sandstorm as it blasted Sandstorm right at the tiny leaf Pokémon. "I knew you would try to dodge, so I got my own way to avoid your dodges. Gastrodon! Use Ice Beam!" Gastrodon fired Ice Beam and struck Turtwig on the spot.
"Prinplup! Metal Claw on Gastrodon!" Sora ordered. Prinplup ran very fast and landed a swipe on the sea slug Pokémon with his flippers. It started to get the attention of the gathering crowd. Even Ursula was affected.
"Hippowdon! Fire Fang on Turtwig!" The cowboy ordered. Hippowdon heads towards Turtwig with its mouth emitting fire.
"Can't go above, because Hippowdon will unleash Sandstorm again, so I'll have to try this instead," Sora said in his thoughts. He said out loud, "Turtwig! Dogdge Hippowdon!" Turtwig ran to avoid Hippowdon's Fire Fang.
'You're not going to go above Hippowdon, because of Sandstorm! Keep up that Fire Fang!" The cowboy ordered.
"Not going over!" Sora sad, shocking the cowboy. "Turtwig, get under Hippowdon!" Turtwig ran underneath Hippowdon instead of over. "Now, use Energy Ball!" Turtwig fires Energy Ball right under Hippowdon and it gets struck hard by the Grass Type move. The cowboy was shocked to see what had happened.
"No way! My Hippowdon!" The cowboy exclaimed. "Okay, Gastrodon! Body Slam!" Gastrodon jumped to land on the penguin Pokémon.
"Bubble Beam!" Sora ordered. Prinplup fires Bubble Beam to strike the sea slug Pokémon and goes above. "Okay, Turtwig! Energy Ball again!" Turtwig fires Energy Ball at Gastrodon and that landed a blow onto it. "Good work, guys!" Turtwig and Prinplup both beamed at Sora's praise.
"I'm not going to gie up that easily, ya spiky-haired polecat! Hippowdon! Thunder Fang on Prinplup! Gastrodon! Body Slam on Turtwig!" The cowboy ordered. Hippowdon heads towards Prinplup with Thunder Fang as Gastrodon heads for Turtwig.
"Turtwig! Razor Leaf! Prinplup! Bubble Beam!" Sora ordered. Turtwig and Prinplup fired both Razor Leaf and Bubble Beam right at Hippowdon and Prinplup. The hippo and sea slug Pokémon both were hit by the leaves and bubbles. Hippowdon and Gastrodon fell on the ground beaten.
"Great horny toads! I lost!" The cowboy exclaimed. The crowd all cheered for Sora as he won.
"That kid is good," one man said.
"So are Turtwig and Prinplup!" A little girl said. The cowboy went up to the fallen Ground Types.
"Ya''ll okay? Ya took a pretty bad hit," the cowboy siad. Hippowdon and Gastrodon groaned. "Don't worry. Ya'll did your best and that's all that matters." He called back his fallen Hippowdon and Gastrodon and went up to Sora with a smile. "That was some battle. You're one of the roughest toughest trainers I have ever faced. No wonder ya won them Pokémon Leagues."
"Thanks a lot. You're pretty tough yourself," Sora said. The cowboy smiled and shooked his hand.
Some of the people went up to Sora and asked for his autograph. Sora had to oblige them since they came this way. Ursula was very impressed by his battling skills.
"My, my, he's even better in real life than on TV," Ursula said in her thoughts.
"That was pretty good, guys. And I knew that training with Energy Ball will pay off!" Sora said.
"Turtwig!" Turtwig said.
"You too, Prinplup. That Bubble Beam was the best I've seen!" Sora said.
"Prinplup, Prinplup!" Prinplup said. He patted Prinplup on the head.
Kairi and Ventus were proud by the fact that Sora had won again. The DIgimon were sharing it as well.
It was the time of the Solaceon Contest as Sora, Kairi, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, Pikachu, Angel, Meowth, and Digimon took their seats.
"You think Dawn will better than the last time?" Agumon asked.
"Don't jinx it, Agumon," Hawkmon said.
"She'll be fine, Agumon. We'll just have faith in her," Kairi said.
"And we're going to cheer her on all the way through," Sora said.
"That's what I like to hear," a familiar voice spoke. They all turned to see it was from Zoey.
"Zoey? When did you get here?" Sora asked.
"Just a little while ago. I'm surprised you aren't competeing, Kairi," Zoey said.
"Registrations were full up. Anyway, we're glad to see you," Kairi said.
"You haven't seen Lucas or RIku have you?" Patamon asked.
"Just Lucas. He said he's going to check on Dawn before the Contest starts. Give her his support," Zoey said.
"Lucas is here too?" Ventus asked.
"Seems like it," Terra said.
Zoey thinks back to a talk she had with Lucas just when they were arriving to Solaceon Town.
(Flashback, a little while ago)
Lucas, Zoey, and Glameow were walking down the streets of Solaceon Town as Zoey was having a talk with Lucas about him and Dawn.
"So, Lucas, there's something I've been wondering about for a while," Zoey said. Lucas looked right at her.
"Okay, what?" Lucas asked.
"What's the deal between you and Dawn?" Zoey asked. Lucas got wide-eyed when she asked him that.
"What?" Lucas asked, shocked.
"You heard me. I noticed how you two are always hanging on each other. It was hard not to notice. So, I'm curious to know about your relationship with her," Zoey said. Lucas sighed.
"Okay, I'll tell you. But you can't tell anyone that I told you," Lucas said. "Especially Sora and Kairi."
"I won't tell," Zoey said.
"Meow," Glameow said. Lucas took a pretty big gulp as he was about to admit his feelings for the Coordinator.
"The thing is, I've been in love with Dawn since the first time I first met her in kindergarten," Lucas finally admitted.
"How did it start?" Zoey asked.
"It started out on the very first day. I came along to meet some of the other kids there when I first saw Dawn. I remembered how cute she was in her pink outfit. My face always turned red as a Wurmple's backside. Barry would often tease her about stuff she did, but I didn't like anybody teasing her, especially that Kenny. Dawn and I played with each other and we hit it off great. She would always say 'no need to worry' when she bounces right back. As time went on, Dawn grew more and more beautiful," Lucas explained. He blushes. Zoey knew a blooming romance when she saw it.
"Have you told her how you feel, at al?" Zoey asked.
"No. I want to. But the turth is, I was worried that she would laugh in my face if I did," Lucas said.
"I don't think she would laugh," Zoey said. Lucas looked at the red-headed Coordinator. "Trust me, Dawn doesn't seem to be that kind of person who would do that to someone, even when it comes to someone like you. If it helps, she always blushes when she mentions you." Lucas blinked twice.
"Really?" Lucas asked.
"I know it, Lucas. Take my word for it, she has it bad for you. The only way to confirm it is that you tell her how you feel about her," Zoey said.
"I'll take your word for it, Zoey. But you promise that you won't-" Lucas said before Zoey cuts him off.
"I won't say a thing. It's realy not my place to do so. It's yours and Dawn's," Zoey said. "Now, we got a Contest to get to."
"Right. We don't want to be late," Lucas said.
They rush off to see the Contest.
(Present)
Zoey was still thinking about the talk she and Lucas had with each other.
Over to Dawn, she was getting set as Lucas was entering the back.
"Hey, Dawn," Lucas greeted. Dawn turned to see Lucas.
"Lucas. Hi," Dawn greeted. "WHen did you get here?"
"A little while ago. Just wanted to wish you luck. And give you this," Lucas said, handing a heart bracelet to her. Dawn was briefly at a loss for words.
"Lucas, I love it," Dawn said.
"Thought you would and that's why I got it for you," Lucas said. He placed it on Dawn's left wrist. She looks right at it and blushes.
"Thank you, Lucas. I really mean it," Dawn said.
"Glad you love it. It suits you well," Lucas said. Dawn smiled right at him.
"Again, thank you very much," Dawn said. Just when Lucas was about to take off.
"Break a leg," Lucas said. Dawn stopped him by taking his hand.
"Lucas?" Dawn asked.
"Yeah?" Lucas asked. Dawn gave Lucas a kiss on the cheek and he blushes. He places his hand on where she kissed him. "Dawn?"
"Wanted to thank you again," Dawn said. He smiled as he blushes.
"You're welcome," Lucas said. His heart was beating very, very fast. Kenny was watching from the corner and he was very jealous of Lucas. He knew Dawn has a thing for Lucas and not him. Lucas went and rejoined ZZoey as he sat down in the seat next to her.
"Lucas, hey," Sora greeted.
"Hey, Sora. Glad to see you," Lucas greeted.
"Here to cheer Dawn on?" Kairi asked. Lucas blushed when he was asked that.
"Y-Yeah," Lucas said.
The Contest was officially getting started as a line was forming from behind.
"Throngs of fans have lined up in droves stretching down the street as the eye can see! In numbers too massive to even try to count, they're all here to witness today's exciting Solaceon Town Pokémon Contest! And needless to say we're coming to you from beautiful Solaceon Town, and we're live!" Marian announced as the crowd goes wild.
"And here we go, guys! Let's all cheer hard for Dawn and her Ambipom," Ventus said.
"That's saying it, Ven," Gatomon said.
"The winner of today's contest recieves this: The Solaceon Ribbon!" Marian announced as she held the ribbon. "Our Coordinators are vying to win one of five total ribbons and earn a spot in the Sinnoh Grand Festival!" Dawn, Kenny, and all the other Coordinators were watching from the back.
"And this win's mine, Dee Dee," Kenny said.
"That won't happen, because the win is mine," Dawn said. Ursula was watching the vent as she snobbishly chuckles.
"They say that they'll be the winners when I will be walking away with that ribbon and not them," Ursual said under her breath.
"All right then, and now it's time for a word from our judges!" Marian announced.
"Thank you! I join with every one you here in looking forward to a marvelous competition!" Contesta announced.
"One that's remarkable!" Suziko added.
"Ther's so many wonderful Pokémon here. I am lookong forward to it!" Fantina said.
"All right then, wothout further delay, it's time for our first round the perfoamnce stage! And here's contestant number one!" Marian announced as Kenny came out to give his performnce.
"Kenny's up first!" Tentomon said.
"What does he have planned?" Armadillomon asked.
"Only one way to find out," Terra said.
"Breloom! Let's do it!" Kenny called out as he three his Pokéball encased in a Line Seal. The Pokéball opens and a line spirals downwards to the ground. Breloom makes its entry on the stage. "Breloom! Stun Spore! Go!"
"Loom!" Breeloom said as it unleashes Stun Spore from its spores. Breloom vibrates its whole body.
"And Breloom leads off with a Stun Spore! Seinding off a fine mist while Breloom's body vibrates at a rapid rate of speed!" Marian announced.
"Amazing, Kenny's using the shine from Breloom's Stun Spore to show off his great fur sheen!" Kairi said.
"Energy Ball!" Kenny ordered. Breloom forms Energy Ball from his mouth and sends it upwards into the air. "Now use Mach Punch!" Breloom goes upwards and delievers a Mach Punch, shattering Energy Ball into little sparkles.
"What a Mach Punch! A real hit! We're seeing the beauty of a Grass Type move simultaneously with the strength of a Fighting Type!" Marian announced.
"Yeah, Breloom! Way to go!" Kenny praised the mushroom Pokémon.
Utilizing Stun Spore and Mach Punch in tandem to show off Breloom's beauty and power was quite a brilliant and well-thought strategy!" Contesta said.
"Yes, remarkable too!" Suzziko added.
"It's quite easy to see from that polished fluid performance how well Breloom's been raised," Fantina said. Dawn was watching from the backstage as were all the others.
"What an awesome job. I've gotta admit, Kenny's really improved. But I can't give up. I worked too hard," Dawn said in her thoughts.
"Man, Kenny has iproved since that last contest," Ventus said.
"You said it, Ven. That stunt he pulled with Breloom was incredible," Wormmon said.
"And now, moving right along!" Marian announced. Other Coordinators had done loads of performances. It was a Rattata rolling on a big ball, a Dunsparce jumping into the air, and Exploud, sending out a loud yell, a Dusclops using Will-O-Wisp all around, a Steelix doing a glow, and a Primarina doing a song all around the satge. "And now for our next Coordinator, Ursula!" Ursula was thrilled the eyes were on her.
"It's a thrill for you to see me!" Ursula proclaimed. She took out a Pokéball encased in a Fire Seal. "Take the stage, Gabite!" She threw it and Gabite comes on out in flames.
"Gabite makes its entry in a flames!" Marian annooucned.
"Good way for a Dragon Type Pokémon to make its entry," Veemon said. All the Digimon all looked at him and he gulps. "I mean, boo."
"Gabite! Begin with your Dragon Rage!" Ursula ordered. Gabite forms a ball of purple energy and hurls it right into the air.
"Ursula begins by sending out Dragon Rage right into the air! Truly fabulous!" Marian announced.
"Now, use Aerial Ace!" Ursula ordered. Gabite jumped and darthed right towards the ball of energy and lands a hit, making it look it purple fireworks. "Now, do a Dragon Claw dance!" Gabite does a twirl like a ballerina.
"That's incredible! That Dragon Claw has turned into a rhythmic dance!" Marian announced. "Wonderfully done!"
"Thank you!" Ursula waved to the cheering crowd.
"Now, let's here from our judges!" Marian announced.
"The use of Dragon Rage and Aerial Ace was a sight to behold!" Contesta announced.
"Yes. Remarkable!" Suziko added.
"And the Dragon Claw dance was pure pefection!" Fantia stated.
"They love it," the Digimon all said.
"Up next, let's welcome Dawn!" Marian announced. Dawn races out to the stage with a smile on her face.
"There she is!" Ventus cheered.
"I know you can do it, Dawn!" Kairi cheered.
"We're all with you, Dawn!" Sora said.
"I'm with you the most, Dawn," Lucas said in his thoughts.
"Ambipom! Spotlight!" Dawn called out as she threw her Pokéball encased in a Party Seal and Ambipom came on out with a twirl. "Begin with Swift!" Ambipom sends Swift all around as the stars go all around. "Now, use Double Hit!!" Ambipom smacks the stars with both tails, makig it sparkle all around. It created a rainbow as it captivates the crowd. Even Kairi was moved.
"So pretty," Kairi said.
"I have never seen anything like this, but it is simply gorgeous!" Marian announced. The judges were all so inmpressed by Dawn's performance. Dawn ran up to Ambipom and embraxed the long tail Pokémon.
"That was amazing, Ambipom!" Dawn praised. She comes back with Kenny waiting for her.
"Thta swift was really something," Kenny said.
"Surprised, aren't you?" Dawn asked. Kairi came back stage and she smiled.
"You were wonderful, Dawn," Kairi said.
"Aw, thanks, Kairi," Dawn said.
"Sorry for the delay, but we have a desicion! The Coordinators who have made it past the first stage!" Marian announced. Dawn had hoped she made it through this time. Everyone was anxiously waiting to see who has made it right to the second stage. "And now here are the official results! The eight Coordinators moving on to the second stage. And they're on screen!" The screen shows the crowd who made it through. Kenny is among the trianers who made it through. It shows that Dawn had made it through and Ursula did not.
"What happened?!" Ursula scowled.
It turns out that Kenny is having the first match. Dawn is happy that she has made it to the second round. She had to work hard to get there. Kenny has been eliminated in the first battle as his Prinplup lost to a Dustox asn Dawn's Ambipom has won over a Kirlia.
It was now down to the last round of the Contest. Dawn was up against a Coordinator who has using a Teddiursa. Both Normal Types were going neck-to-neck as Dawn was giving off a small sweat.
"Ambipom! Swift!" Dawn ordered. Ambipom fires Swift right at the little bear Pokémon.
"Teddiursa! Block with your own Swift!" The Coordinator ordered. Teddiursa fires its Swift and block's Ambipom's. Both were losing some points.
"Keep it up, Ambipom!" Dawn cheered. Ambipom does exactly that.
Neither of Ambipom and Teddiursa are calling it quits!" Marian announced.
"Teddiursa! Cease fire and come out it with Slash!" The Coordinator ordered as Teddirusa comes at the long tailed Pokémon. The clock was running as it was a minute and fifty-nine seconds left.
"Dodge and use Double Hit!" Dawn ordered. Ambipom avoids Teddiursa's Slash and lands a couple of hits on the little bear Pokémon. The Coordinator was losing some more points from those hits.
"Looks like Dawn is making her comeback," Gabumon said.
"We're now pass the one minute mark! It's anyone's guess on how this will end!" Marian announced.
"Teddiursa! Slash again!" The Coordinator ordered.
"Double Hit!" Dawn ordered. Ambipom lands a cople of hits.
"Thirty seconds left!" Marian announced.
"Keep it up, Dawn!" Lucas cheered.
"She's did better than the last time," Aqua said.
"Hey, that's my line!" meowth said.
"Let her have it," Veemon said.
"And now we're down to fiftenn seconds!" Marian announced. "Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one! Time! And the winner is Dawn!" Everyone all cheered. Over to Twinleaf Town, Johanna was watching on TV and she smiled, feeeling proud of her daughter.
"I'm so proud of you, Dawn," Johanna said.
"Meow," her Glameow added.
"Congratulations on Dawn for winning her second Ribbon!" Marian announced. Dawn has accepted her second Ribbon as the crowd cheers on.
Once the Pokémon Contest was over and done with, Dawn changed back into her regular clothes and saw Lucas smiling at her.
"Congrats, Dawn. I knew you would get there," Lucas said.
"Thanks, Dawn said, blushing.
"Now, you only need three more Ribbons left," Terra said.
"Thanks a lot," Dawn said.
"Now, the next stop is Veilstone City," Sora said.
"Right, let's go," Meowth said.
With that said, Lucas joins Sora, Kairi, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, Pikachu, Angel, Meowth, and the Digimon for a short time and started to continue their way to Veilstone City and for Sora to win his very next Gym battle.
I was originally going to have Dawn cut from the finals, but I decided against it. So, I hope you enjoy the very next one.
