Usually, Ash would start the day by just sleeping in, having breakfast, do whatever assignment they were given, and then train. Now, he just trains all day, stopping to take a break every once in a while. Coincidentally, that's what he and his Pokémon are doing right now.
Ash: Come on guys pick up the pace
They increased the intensity of their training, and soon, they began to get more tired from all the constant dodging, attacking, and repeating.
Ash: Ok guys, that should be enough
While the Pokémon went to their usual spots to have some conversations, Ash decided to get some searching done. Apparently, there is going to be a tournament being held over at the Unova regions Nimbasa City (Not Nimbasa Town). Naturally, Ash jumped at the chance to participate, and Goh desired to catch some Pokémon over there as well.
Soon enough, Ash, Goh, Chloe, and Serena were now at Nimbasa City, ready for the tournament to begin. While they were there, they met up with Iris and Cilan, which Ash immediately caught up with.
Cilan: Ah, Ash, it's nice to see you again
Iris: Yeah, also congrats on being the Alola champion
Ash: Heh, I guess this sort of stuff is being spread like pokerus, so Iris, what dragons did you get
Iris: Take a look
Iris revealed that she now had a Druddigon, and Zweilous on her team. Ash could tell that they were raised very well, and Zweilous looked like it was going to evolve sooner or later. Although that may be a double edged sword, since Hydreigon are known for being very violent, though Iris has dealt with Dragonite before, so she could be prepared for such a situation next time.
Iris: By the way Ash, do you have any dragon types yourself?
Ash: Sure do, take a look
Ash showed his Gabite, Goodra, Noivern, Naganadel, Dragonite, and Dracovish. While Iris gushed over the first 5, Cilan was a bit weirded out by Dracovish.
Cilan: Um, Ash, if I may ask, what is the reason for Dracovish's appearance?
Ash: You see, Dracovish is comprised of two fossils, one from a reptilian creature, and another from a fish
Cilan: I see, but the combination seems rather...crude
Ash: Well, the guys that restored it were careless and rough respectively, so that might be the reason for his disproportionate appearance
Cilan: I see
While Iris showed off her other dragon types, Ash's Dragonite tried to make friends with Iris' Dragonite, emphasis on 'try'. Iris' Dragonite still acts distant and aggressive towards others, and didn't approve of Ash's Dragonite's first impressions. It then used Thunderpunch to give himself some space, which also angered Ash's Dragonite, that it then uses Dragon Claw to counter the attacker. Ash and Iris immediately went to break up the fight, which resulted in both sides glaring at each other.
Ash: Your Dragonite still has his attitude?
Iris: Unfortunately, yes
Cilan: Perhaps we can settle this anger later, for now, the results are going to appear
They all gathered to see the matchups, and they saw that Ash was paired up with a trainer name Arlo, Iris is with someone named Franko, and Cilan is with Georgia.
Iris: So Ash, which Pokémon will you use?
Ash: You will find out soon enough
Iris: Um, ok
Eventually, the tournament began, and the first matches were done rather quickly, so we didn't go over them. Then came Ash's match.
Arlo: Alright, Lampent, let's burn it up
Arlo released the ghostly lamp Pokémon appeared onto the battlefield.
Ash: Ok, Palpitoad, let's go
Referee: Battle begin
Arlo: We'll start, Lampent use Will o Wisp
Lampent fired ghostly blue orbs of fire at the armless toad.
Ash: Protect yourself with Aqua Ring
Palpitoad was then surrounded by a veil of water that extinguished the fireballs, not only that, but he would now be healed from time to time.
Freddy: Palpitoad had just used his Aqua Ring to both cancel out Will o Wisp, and set up
Don George: Talk about catching two balls in one go
Arlo: Alright, let's go more offensive, use Shadow Ball
Ash: Counter with Mud Shot
A shadowy orb and blob of mud collided with each other, cancelling each other out. Ash knew that he would need to act fast, since Lampent, and both of its former and future stages are well known for their special attack stats. Sure Palpitaod could resist its fire attacks, but not its ghost attacks, and don't get him started when it comes to status inflictions, he has no special resistance towards those, unless it was paralysis.
Arlo: Lampent, Flame Burst
Lampent began hurling balls of flames that repeatedly struck Palpitoad, however, the latter's Aqua Ring managed to heal some of the damage, but some won't let him last forever. Ash had to strike back quickly, his reputation as Alola's champion is on the line.
Ash: Use Muddy Water
Palpitoad then summoned a massive wave of swampy water that washed away Lampent. Some of the water got into Lampent's eyes, decreasing its accuracy.
Ash: Alright, now use Sludge Wave
Arlo: Quick, use Inferno
Both the attacks collided with each other in an incredible display of power. Whilst Inferno's lackluster accuracy made this a risky move, it ended up overpowering Sludge Wave, and hit Palpitoad head on. To add insult to injury, the resulting attack ended up with Palpitoad getting burned.
Arlo: Alright, now let's finish him, Overheat
Ash: Quick, use Hydro Pump
Despite the pain the burn caused him, Palpitoad still executed the attack. It caused an even greater explosion than before, and both pokemon were knocked back.
Freddy: Incredible, both of the attacks were so great in power, that they caused damage to both sides
Don George: But the question remains, who will emerge?
While Lampent got up just fine, Palpitoad had trouble since he didn't have any arms.
Ash: Come on Palpitoad, you can do it
Palpitoad: Ah, screw this
Palpitoad began glowing blue, and arms were beginning to form on his body. He got back up with the help of his new appendages, and the light soon died out.
Ash: Seismitoad!
Iris: Incredible
Cilan: An unexpected ingredient to an already spicy battle
Goh: Um, what?
Iris made a shrug at him, as if she didn't know what he meant either.
Arlo: Even if he evolved, it won't be enough, Lampent, Shadow Ball
Ash: Ok Seismitoad, let's test out your new move, SURF!
While the lamp Pokémon fired another blob of shadows, the newly evolved Pokémon summoned a tidal wave of massive proportions. This immediately left Lampent washed up, and defeated.
Referee: Lampent is unable to battle, Seismitoad wins, which means the match goes to Ash Ketchum
Ash: ALRIGHT!, way to go Seismitoad
Seismitoad: About time I get some proper respect
Ash met up with his friends, who were amazed by the new Seismitoad Ash now has.
Goh: Hey Ash, I just realized something, we both have Boldore's, and they evolve via trading, do you think we can evolve them by trading them to evolve, and then trading them back?
Ash: I like the way you think Goh
Goh and Ash traded each other's Boldore, which then evolved into Gigalith. They then proceed to trade them back, leaving both sides with powerful fully evolved rock types. So far, the only pokemon from Unova that haven't evolved so far, are the starters and Scraggy. Goh proceeded to head out for some pokemon to catch, and came back with a Maractus, Patrat, and Pidove. Next came Goh's match against Burgundy, who was already criticizing Goh's choice of pokemon, which he clearly did not like. The battle began with Burgundy using Sawsbuck, and Goh using Arctozolt. Burgundy looked at the fossil pokemon, and said and I quote.
Burgundy: Ugh, a bitter shocking taste combined with the flavor of old frozen food
Goh: Would you stop with the lousy evaluation, you're just a C class
Burgundy: Actually, I'm C+ now
Referee: Battle begin
Burgundy: Sawsbuck, Double Kick
The buck pokemon charged at Arctozolt, priming its hind legs for a good kicking.
Goh: Slow it down with Icy Wind
Arctozolt launched a very chilly wind, which not only slowed down Sawsbuck, but also made the ground slippery, which caused Sawsbuck to lose traction.
Burgundy: Use Double Kick to shatter the ice
Sawsbuck stomped on the ice, shattering the slippery surface, and allowing it to stay steady.
Burgundy: Now, use Solarbeam
Goh: Quick, prepare with Charge
Using the power of the sun, Sawsbuck began charging up energy for a devastating attack, while Arctozolt began charging electricity to brace for impact. When the attack struck, Burgundy though she won, until she saw Arctozolt still standing.
Goh: Alright, now use Bolt Beak
Arctozolt slid on the icy floor for a faster attack, and pecked Sawsbuck with a powerful electricity charged beak.
Referee: Sawsbuck is unable to battle, Arctozolt wins, which means the match goes to Goh
Iris: Looks like he's improving
Ash: Yeah, about time he began training
Meanwhile, Goh got a rush that he never got before. It was different from when he caught a new pokemon, and yet he felt pumped. After congratulating his icy fossil for its work, he returned to his friends.
