Maggie rang Jenny on her way to meet OA, Jubal's sister knew from her tone that something was wrong, so Maggie filled her in as much as she could. She completely understood why Maggie was angry and hurt and why she had to cancel to go and spend time with OA. She told her not to worry that even if Jubal cancelled on her that she would go and check in with him. Even though Maggie was angry at him she still wanted to make sure he was okay.
Jubal was thankful that their meeting didn't take long and that Rina and her team hadn't actually been invited to the meeting, the deputy director wanted to find out from Isobel and Jubal about what they thought of how the new Counter Terrorism team had handled the case. He had been checking his phone during the meeting as much as he could, but he didn't expect to hear from Maggie as he knew that right now OA needed her. Jubal came out of the conference room and he was surprised to see Jenny standing at the door of Isobel's office waiting with Ian.
"Jenny? What are you doing here? Is everything okay?" Jubal now was panicking that something had happened her or Ben her son. This was the first time that his sister had come to his office.
"Oh I'm just here to make sure that you don't cancel our plans because we need to talk."
"You've been talking to Mags?."
"I have and only reason I haven't slapped you up side the head yet is because your team are still here. Is the crazy agent still here?." She spoke freely in front of Ian as Jubal and Maggie had both told her that he knew about their relationship and had helped with Maggie's Christmas gift of her parents.
Ian couldn't help but laugh as Jubal was standing with his hands on his hips but he moved one of his hands to the back of his neck when he heard his sister. Before Jubal could answer Ian was jumping in,
"Rina is in the building but not on this floor." Ian shrugged when Jubal just stared at him "What? I maybe checked that she wasn't here before Maggie left, you know to make sure Maggie left without killing her. Oh one more thing I looked in to it and Rina did request for it to be her working with you."
Jenny looked at Ian "So she's really that bad? Maybe I should hang around and meet her."
That had Jubal springing in to action straight away, he gently turned Jenny towards the door "That is most definitely not a good idea, let's get out of here before you find a way to accidentally bump in to her."
Ian couldn't help but laugh "It was nice to meet you Jenny and just let me know if you ever need to know where Rina is, I'll be more than happy to help."
"I'll keep that in mind Ian thank you" Jenny smiled at him.
Jubal playfully and gently pushed his sister towards the elevators as he looked at Ian "I am going to remember this." He joked with his friend.
Ian held his hands up "I'm not going to apologise for taking sides."
Jubal shook his head as he stepped on to the elevator with his sister, he couldn't help but smile though at seeing Ian and Jenny protecting Maggie so much even though she really didn't need it there was no sides to take. He had absolutely no interest in Rina. When the elevator doors closed Jenny slapped her brother lightly on the back of his head and he looked at her.
"Hey what was that for?."
"Oh you know what that's for baby brother."
Jubal sighed and lay his head back against the wall of the elevator "What did Maggie say to you?."
Now that all joking had stopped Jenny could see how much her brother was struggling with it all. "She explained that she wouldn't be joining us tonight because her partner and his girlfriend broke up and he needed some company. Which I completely understand but she didn't sound like Maggie on the phone, so I asked her what was going on and she told me about Rina and that you and her had a little disagreement to do with work."
Jubal rubbed his face gently as he listened to his sister "I totally understand that OA needs her right now, I just hate the way we left things. She told me to enjoy the meeting with my girlfriend, even Isobel stood in complete shock. I deserved it but I've never seen Maggie like this."
Jenny let her shoulder nudge Jubal's gently and stayed close to him "Right now she is hurt and angry, I think this is more about Rina and even Sam than it is about the work fight, but she did ask me to come check in you even if you tried to cancel our plans."
"So she still cares, that has to be a good sign right?" He looked at his sister before standing up straight as they made their way out of the elevator and they decided to go to Jen's place to get something to eat.
"Oh Jubal she still loves you, I heard it in her voice when she was talking on the phone. Right now I think she just needs a little space and time. I know that's not easy for you but you have to think about Maggie right now. Last weekend Sam was trying to kiss you who has been a bitch to Maggie since day one, now Rina is back in your life again and from what I got from Ian she has not been hiding her flirting with you. You know she goes out of her way to do that even more because she knows in the JOC Maggie can't react to it."
"I really don't know what to do here Jen, I swear I have tried my best to stay away from Rina on this case, I had no idea they were even bringing her in. When she has tried flirting I have tried to remove myself straight away, she just won't stop. The things she said about Mags and some of it in front of her, I wanted to scream at her, but I have to be careful too because of work and because people don't know about us."
Jenny looked at her brother raising an eyebrow "What kind of things has she been saying?"
"She told Mags that she couldn't speak to her the way that she was just because she was screwing her ASAC." Jubal heard the intake of breath from his sister "I know, Rina has no filter, Mags did stand her ground though. It was only me, Mags, Isobel and Rina in the office, but it's been constant the whole case. She saw Mags looking at my phone wanted to know if she didn't trust me, asked me if I was sure that Maggie wasn't sleeping with OA and then when I was finished scratching whatever itch it was with Mags that she would be waiting for my call."
"Okay firstly you know that Mags would not cheat on you? That's just not who she is, I hope you know that."
"I know she wouldn't cheat on me, I know how much her and OA mean to each other. I have no doubts about that. It's like Rina can't get it in to her head that Mags isn't just some fling that I'm going to forget about, no matter how many times I tell her that I want nothing to do with her even if Mags wasn't in the picture."
"Jubal her admitting that Mags is more than a fling means that she would have to admit to herself that you are in love with someone who isn't her. You know I already hate this woman and I've never even met her. You and Mags will sort this out though, she just needs to clear her head."
"I can't lose her Jen, she's the best thing that has happened me since the kids were born, if time and space is what she needs then I will give that to her, I don't want to, I want to go see her right now but I will do whatever she needs and wants."
Jen linked her arm with Jubal's as she walked alongside him "Hey, I will help you figure this out okay? As a female trust me that right now she just needs to let off some steam with one of her best friends."
Jubal was thankful for his sister, he knew that she was being honest with him and that she would be there to support him through this. He was also holding on to hope the fact that Maggie had asked Jen to check in with him. As much as he wanted to see her he was willing to give her space. Jen had ordered them food when they got back to her place, her husband and son were away for the night so it was just her and Jubal.
Maggie had been spending the night with OA, talking to him about everything with Mona, he was hurt because he was really just doing his job and Mona was holding that against him. He loved his job, sometimes they got it wrong but most of the time they were actually doing good. He was thankful to just have Maggie to sit and relax with as they had something to eat and a few drinks. He just needed to get everything off his chest to someone he really trusted. It was late on when Maggie took out her phone to text Jubal.
'OA doesn't want to sleep in an empty apartment tonight so I'm going to crash on his couch. I hope that you went to meet Jen and that you both had a good night.'
Jubal was sitting on the couch with his sister and he lifted his phone straight away and he sighed reading the text "Mags is going to stay with OA tonight, she won't even come home Jen."
Jen leaned over his shoulder to read the text "She's not avoiding you Jubal, she is being there for a friend. I'm sure that he was used to having his girlfriend with him most nights so tonight he just doesn't want to be alone. It's not like Maggie can take him home to your apartment. Look why don't you stay here tonight with me rather than going home?"
Jubal knew Jen was right and this was giving Maggie the space she needed ,he nodded hearing Jen "Thank you, I haven't spent a night at our apartment without Maggie and I really don't want to start right now." He typed out a reply to Maggie 'You are a good friend to him, I'm going to stay at Jen's tonight. I really do love you Mags, I hope you know that.'
Maggie's reply came instantly 'I know' that message was soon followed up by another from her 'I love you too that hasn't changed.'
Jubal lay back against his sisters couch reading that message over and over, she had actually said she loved him. They could fix this, he was going to fight hard to fix it.
