Chapter 14: Some Advice

In the morning Starlight told her friends about her dream and what Princess Luna had told her.

"It sounds like you need some advice." Fluttershy told her.

"But who am I supposed to ask? I can't ask you guys." Starlight said.

"That is true. None of us are married." Twilight mentioned.

"I know, you could talk to Mrs. Cake, she's married." Pinkie suggested.

"Now that I'm thinkin' about it, Granny Smith is having some of her friends over for some cards, you could talk to them if you'd like." Applejack offered.

"Thanks, everypony." Starlight replied gratefully.

So later that day, Starlight went to Sugar Cube Corner.

"Hello, Mrs. Cake?" she called.

"I'm in the kitchen, come on back." Mrs. Cake called back.

Starlight went to the back, and saw Mrs. Cake busy baking.

"Hi, Mrs. Cake, I hope I'm not interrupting."

"Oh, no, Pinkie told me you'd be coming by today."

"She did?" Starlight asked nervously.

"Yeah, she said you were getting some jitters about getting married."

Starlight blushed.

"Oh, it's nothing to be embarrassed about. I felt the same way when I married Carrot Cake."

"You did?"

"Of course. Every mare feels that way before they tie the knot. I was afraid about what would happen after I got married, and that we might end up hating each other."

"But you don't." Starlight mentioned.

"Yes, we ended up working together and understanding each other more."

"But don't you ever fight or argue with each other?"

"Of course we do, but we always end up talking it through and making up."

"That's really nice."

"Just remember, be honest and open with Sunburst, it'll help things." Mrs. Cake advised.

Starlight smiled, that was really good advice. Suddenly, they heard the bell ring alerting them that another pony had come into the shop. They both looked out at the front, and saw Applejack.

"Applejack, what a nice surprise." Mrs. Cake told her.

"Howdy, I was looking for Starlight. Pinkie said I might find her here." Applejack told her.

"I'm right here." Starlight told her, coming out.

"My relatives have arrived, I can take you over to meet them if you'd like."

"Sure. Thanks for the advice, Mrs. Cake." Starlight told.

"No problem." Mrs. Cake replied, as she waved them off.

The two went to Sweet Apple Acres, and inside the living room, they saw Granny Smith, Auntie Apple Sauce, Cousin Apple Rose, and Cousin Goldie Delicious playing cards.

"Hey, everypony." Applejack greeted.

"Hello, Applejack." greeted Apple Rose.

"How you doin'?" asked Goldie Delicious.

"How you doing?" wondered Apple Sauce.

"Hey, Applejack what can we do for you?" Granny Smith asked her.

"I just brought a friend of mine here. Starlight Glimmer, you remember her, right Granny?"

"Oh, yes how are you, dear?"

"Hello Granny Smith, hi uh other family members." Starlight said shyly.

"I brought her here, because you see she's gettin' married soon to her boyfriend Sunburst." Applejack explained.

"Congratulations." said Apple Sauce.

"Good for you two." Apple Rose added.

"That's great." Goldie Delicious told her.

"But..." Applejack started, as she nudged her.

"...I'm feeling a little nervous about becoming a wife. I was hoping I could ask you four for advice?" Starlight wondered.

"Well girly, you came to the right place." Goldie Delicious told her.

"Yeah, pull up a chair, and we'll tell ya all ya need to know." Granny Smith added.

Starlight took a seat at the table, and Applejack left them alone to talk.

"So what do you want to know?" asked Apple Sauce.

"Well how'd you make your marriages work? Weren't you afraid something bad would happen?"

"Dear, marriage can be scary, but it's truly a wonderful thing." Apple Rose told her.

"That's right, sure things can get rocky sometimes but all in all it's really worth it." added Granny Smith.

"Really?" asked Starlight hopefully.

"You betcha. And here's some words of wisdom." said Goldie Delicious.

Starlight listened closely and carefully.

"One of the keys to a successful marriage is communicatin'. Be sure to talk to him." advised Goldie Delicious.

"Don't forget to listening is important too. Be sure to always hear what your husband has to say." Apple Rose told her.

"It's also important to be patient." Apple Sauce reminded.

"Sometimes stallions can be frustrating, but try not to lose you cool."

"And here's my words of wisdom." Granny Smith told her.

"What's that?" asked Starlight.

"You must always remember why you married him."

"What?"

"When the years pass by and you have as many years on you as we do, you and Sunburst may change, but never forget why you fell in love with him in the first place."

Starlight thought about their words, they seemed to really make sense. She smiled at them, and replied,

"Thank you, thanks so much."

"Your welcome dear." Granny Smith replied.

As she left Sweet Apple Acres, Starlight felt much better. All the advice she heard made sense, she and Sunburst loved each other, and they've been able to talk out any problems they faced with each other.

"This marriage will work, and we'll be happy." she told herself, as she headed home.
