Chapter 27: The White Lotus Reforms
The invasion to Agna Qel'a ended and 2 weeks later, on Agni, there was silence, no messages coming from the northern water tribe, something that was making everyone really worried but as far as doing something, no more than asking for a response using messengers, that never came back
And that was something that was on Aang's mind, distracting him even when he had to train his new family, not only Ty Lee but her father and Aang's nephew, So Ren, were training under the avatar's guardianship, on that moment, they were trying to do wind barrages, not so weak after they were doing that for some days
Then Toph approached -Thank lord that you are finally able to create your own armor by now.
-I know that, but still is pretty difficult to cope with the idea that we know nothing about Agna Qel'a, it is the same as what happened before Ba Sing Se was conquered.
-What is Katara saying? - Aang didn't knew how to reply -I see, blood bending should be banned forever, I agree with her.
-But if I have to fight against Shaina once more, I need every advantage available- then he noticed that both father and daughter were tired, sunset was approaching -Ok, now let me see your air sliders.
The two tried their best to form the air sphere, but once they put a foot on it, it banished, sending the two sitting to the ground
-Agh, it will take time- Aang sighed -Don't worry, if you get it before the final battle, that will be great.
Ty lee then said -It is bad that my other sisters were not air benders as me.

But before Aang or Toph could say anything, they noticed a lightning going upside, as they were in the frontal part of the fire palace, the 4 went to the back yard, there was Zuko, training to manipulate his own lightning, but apparently that was not enough, his arms were trembling a lot
-You're using too much energy, if you're not careful enough, your arms will implode- behind him there was Azula, checking that everything would be ok -At least you have the idea.
-Is not as easy as to deflect it- he sighed
-Speaking about that, when are you going to teach me? Sounds interesting
Zuko smiled -You didn't ask me for that.
-Right… and look, we have visitors.
Toph asked -Looks like everyone is trying to become stronger before our final fight against the evil avatar.

Toph didn't answer, she showed it by taking a giant rock from the floor and turning it into sand, then putting it back and creating little stones surrounding the area

But on the shipyard, Katara was already waiting, sighed, realizing that everyone on the team was training so hard, yet she was only taking care of them like a mother, in fact, she was doing a good job with Toph's education now but still was affecting them
-If only I could teach Aang something else than blood bending- then she noticed Appa approaching, and from his loin, Aang came near her -Aang.
-Katara, how are things going?
She looked at the horizon -it has been already 3 months since Sokka left, and weeks without any information, I'm so worried, I feel totally useless now.
-Katara you're not, I understand your struggle with blood bending, I'm not the one to criticize you, I got your right on becoming the avatar.
-I told you that I don't care…- then she tried to change the topic -How are things going with the other sub arts?
-Metal bending is done, but while I'm now able to shoot lightnings properly, not even Azula is able to manipulate them at the same level as Shaina.
A mental debate started on her head, but then it stopped when she noticed something on the horizon
-I thought that it would come only 1 more ship from the earth kingdom.
6 in total, as they didn't notice from where these came because of how far they were
-Could it be… Katara, do you want to come?
Katara nodded and with Aang both got up on Appa's loin in order to approach to the boats, there they were, recognizable wood ships coming from the water tribes
-Those must be from the north pole! - Aang said
-But why just 6? - Katara then noticed her father and grandmother on one of the ships -Let's go there.
Once on the ship, Katara hugged her relatives but then she notices that they were not happy
-What happened?
Grand grand took the word -We evacuated Agna Qel'a, what we have here are citizens and just some water benders with us.
That would mean just bad news -No way, so that means that we lost on that city? - Katara asked, with her father nodding -And Sokka, and Paku? If Grand grand is with you it means that Paku was on the north pole too.
But Hakoda sighed -I don't know really, as we were escaping, we noticed the smoke and destruction from the horizon, we must assume that the two…
Silence, it was a hard pill to swallow but it was the true, at least of what they knew, but like with her mother, assuming that she lost another of her relatives, was very hard for the water bender
-No… it can't be…- Katara eyes were starting to get filled with tears
-Your brother was brave, he obtained a great power and confronted Ozai as a warrior would do, let's have hope with us, daughter.
-Sokka… first my mother, then my brother and grandfather…- Aang went to hug her as his girlfriend was starting to cry -I should have gone too!
As Hakoda was looking to all of this, then he looked at Appa -Aang, I have a question, is Agni the only city that receives refugees from other nations?
He denied -Some towns were authorized to receive them.
-Great, I have a mission to fulfill- then he took the tile from his sleeve -Something that Paku asked me to do before the invasion to the north pole.
Silence for some seconds before Aang looked at the tile -White Lotus… are you part now?
Hakoda nodded -Paku told me about a vision, or mostly a visit from an old friend…
As the two were talking in front of a Pai Sho table and playing, Paku was talking
-We lost two of our greatest members on Iroh and Bumi recently due to the attacks of this evil avatar.
-We had no communications on the south pole of the situation before coming here, how did you know this?
-Well, the reason why Iroh was considered one of our most important members was because of his connections with the spirit world, his death meant not so much when now he is able to appear to those who are needed now, he is trying to convince people to join to the white lotus.
-And he told you to tell me this? - Paku nodded, then the old man showed the white tile -Thank you.
-But I'm worried that if the invasion comes, I won't be able to reunite with the others on Agni, if something happens to me, please help me with this mission.
Hakoda took the tile -Of course.
Then Paku smiled -There is a powerful woman from the southern water tribe that will be really helpful, and Iroh also told me about a potential air bender that could join to the white lotus, not a powerful air bender but a really good fighter.
Something that caught Hakoda off guard -Air bender, aside of Aang?!
-I know it is surprising, but you have to find him.
As that, Hakoda finished explaining -That is my mission now.
As Katara stopped crying, she said something -Father, are you totally sure that both Sokka and Paku will be ok?
-Katara, I have my faith intact, if you have yours that will be more than enough- as that both him and grand grand hugged her
-Katara, you are a full-grown woman now, with this challenge in front of us, we need to stay strong- the old woman would say
As they continued on the hug, Hakoda would ask Aang -Please help me with this mission, avatar.
-Sure, let me take you to the palace alongside Aang-
Katara with her relatives mounted the bison and then Appa started to fly, once on the frontal part of the palace, the group would have an uncomfortable meeting as both Toph and Jin were returning, the metal master looked really worried
-Why are Aang and Katara like that? - then she turned to Jin -You can come back to the palace.
Jin just nodded and got inside of the castle, as Appa landed and everyone got to the ground, Toph recognized the clothes from both Hakoda and Kanna
-You are from the water tribes, is Sokka coming too?...- but as she received no answer, Toph started to worry -What… what's wrong?
Hakoda took the word -My son fought bravely, until the end.
-No, please don't tell me…- tears were starting to appear on her eyes -But he promised me…
Katara was still really sad and hugging her grandmother, so Aang took the word -We will avenge them, we will avenge Sokka…
-NO!
-Toph, wait!
The metal bender ran away from there, no route to follow as she was running as fast as she could, even until she was at Agni's exit route and there she stopped looking at the sky that was being painted with the sunset colors
-You fool, you promised me that you will come back, you lied to me!
Aang was finally able to reach her, but looking at her crying was so strange, yet hearthbreaking to see, Toph Beifong was known as a really hard person but knowing about Sokka's destiny was just too much for her
-I should have gone with him, that knucklehead…
Her friend approached to her to give Toph a hug while crying, that defeat on the north pole, that was too much
-Sokka gave us time in order to us to become stronger, for all of those who has fallen on this war, I promise we will win.

Moments later, both Aang and Hakoda were landing in front of Ty Lee's house, the acrobat would open the door
-Uncle welcome- and then she noticed Hakoda -And you are…
-Aaahhh, he is my father in law, mr Hakoda.
He made a greeting -It is a pleasure to meet the family of my son in law.
So Ren then approached to his daughter -Ty Lee who is… Oh, uncle.
-We have some news for you, So Ren- Aang explained
Moments later the four were sitting on the living room, with all the other ladies of the house spying the conversation
-So, the White Lotus is calling me.
-Paku told me that you and your family are descendants of air benders, are all of you air benders?
-Just my daughter Ty Lee and me, unfortunately the rest of my family are not.
-That is enough, we will need all the help that we could gather in order to help on this new war.
-Without a doubt you can count with us- then So Ren looked at his other daughters -They are skilled fighters too.
Hakoda smiled -Well, tomorrow we will meet the other members, do you want to come?
So Ren nodded

At the next day, really early on the morning, Neera was flying and landed in front of certain academy, Hakoda knocked the door and a servant opened
-Who knocks on the door of the prestigious sword academy of master Pian Dao?
-Those who are in the quest of knowledge and beauty- the water tribe warrior said
The servant opened the door -Master Pian Dao and his guests are waiting for you.
The two men entered into the beautiful building and it didn't take too much to find the small group, as two of them were playing Pai Sho and other two watching, the owner of the academy noticed the new arrivals
-Welcome to the academy, may I have your names?
So Ren took the word, and showed a tile -We Are So Ren and Hakoda, I'm nephew of the avatar Aang.
-And I'm Paku's stepson.
-While strange to hear that the avatar has a family, you're still welcome…
-Yeah, I won! - someone screamed, breaking the silence

As that, Hakoda and So Ren sighed, but Pian Dao smiled -You're from the southern water tribe, right young Hakoda?

The old lady took her horrible food and the water, eating and drinking like desperate, then silence, she had to get used to that, well, until the guard told her something
-I never thought that his day will come, but you have visits.
As that he opened a little ceiling on the door, in which Hakoda and So Ren approached

-Hama? - Hakoda asked -The same Hama that tried to teach me water bending before?

He nodded -Right now my nonexistent water bending skills are not important.
-What is important is that you will have the chance to be free for some days- the fire nation general said
-Oh, so you're setting me free, are you aware of the consequences of your actions?
-We are, but if you are as dangerous as everyone is telling us, at least use that power for better things, and if you don't care about doing what is good, at least do it for one of your ex-students.
-Aaagghhh Hakoda, you know that after 4 years here, one thing that I wouldn't want to do is to fight for good purposes.
-Then you don't want to be free, even with restrictions, but maybe you want to breath some fresh air after 4 years locked down.
The old woman on the other side sighed -Fine.
At sunset, Neera landed in front of the palace, on her loin all the White Lotus, old and new members were there and all went inside of the building, on his throne, Zuko was waiting
-When I heard that the White Lotus was reforming I couldn't believe it, but watching all of you here gives me hope- Zuko said -I recognize some of you but not all- then he paid attention to Lena -Jin is going to be happy when she encounters you.
The old woman smiled -Is she training? - Zuko nodded
-But still I will make both Aang and Katara to come, they would like to meet you- with a gesture he gave an order to a servant, and the man left the place-Please take seat, and tell me a little about yourselves.

That interchange of words put the entire situation a little tense, but Aang would cut it -Well if we learned something is that if it is for a good purpose, all help is needed, and who knows, maybe that person turns out to change for good.
His girlfriend was worried -Aang…
He had an idea on his mind, wanting to make it work -By the way Hama, now that you're here, it will be great if you teach me the blood bending, I will need it against the evil avatar.

And Katara's worryness -No please Aang, don't do that!

As the ladies came inside, the princess noticed Lena who was still hugging Jin, that gave her a big relief
-Somehow when I saw that man flying when you hit him, I had the hope that you wouldn't be that easy to kill- Azula said with a smile
-And you managed to survive, what about your personal trip? - Azula went to hug her -That means that it is over.
-And I'm glad that you're alive.
As the hug was broken, Jin talked to Azula -Now I see that you really helped my mother, thank you Azula.
As both shared a hand shake with Ty Lee looking with a smile, Zuko gave order -Ok, now call the rest of the generals, we must discuss the defense plan when the invaders come.
As the other 3 war chamber generals arrived, a huge table was prepared for everyone, generals, white lotus and the gang were there, Zuko then spoke
-With the current situation, in order to overcome the enemy we need everything on our power to create weapons to defend ourselves, if possible, we need to retake the aerostatic globes project, I know that probably we wouldn't have time to create a big number, but with a few of them will be enough.
Almost everyone nodded, but Aang raised his hand -Well, we need to remember one thing, most of the enemy army are brainwashed people, if we kill them well...
-I knew that you would say that my friend, as I told you, the weapons have a defensive purpose but fortunately, we have someone who was on the evil avatar's forces- And he looked to that certain someone -Ty Lee, how did you manage to escape Shaina's influence?
Thinking about that, she started to remember -Well is not going to be that easy, the thing is that before going to normal I had an emotional change that made me recover my senses- and she turned her sight on Azula who was at one side of her -Watching her wanting to change made me realize that something was wrong with me.

-And to use the same resource back- Toph continued -Aang, Zuko and Azula are capable to use lightning, so is only a matter of time to regulate the shocks in order to do the same.
-It is like blood bending, even more advanced as it uses the own electricity of the people- Katara added once more
Then one of the generals raised his hand -Question, how much time will we have in order to prepare our defenses? We have to consider that we were left at last for those invaders.
That made everyone to start thinking, but then Azula would add something -Isn't that an obvious thing? Hey Zuzu, when was the last time that we had a solar eclipse?
-More than 10 months ago… no way, that makes sense.
And everyone would notice it -We have just a little more than a month to strength ourselves and they know it because of that avatar coming from the future, even if we have people coming from other nations, our main forces are still fire nation soldiers.
-We will be near to defenseless on that moment, even if it is only for 8 minutes, they would manage to crush us using number advantages- continued Jeong Jeong
-We also have reinforcements, not all people coming from the earth kingdom and now the water tribes were just normal people- Toph added
-We need to be organized- Zuko said -The enemy also has fire nation soldiers brainwashed and Ozai is with them, I don't think that they would come defenseless so we need to consider that.
Hakoda raised his hand -We will need evacuation routes in order for people to stay safe.
-With ships if necessary- Lena added
Jin had an idea -What about preparing chambers with routes to the other side of the island? We have an immense amount of ships on other cities now, we can use them.
Zuko nodded -Jin, coordinate those works with Toph and the earth benders that we have on our disposal.
So Ren would say -The white lotus can take charge of the main offensive using all the reinforcements and fighters that we have at our hands.
-While the fire nation soldiers would lead the defense of Agni and evacuation of citizens- Pian Dao continued
Ty lee would raise her hand -So, what is going to happen with us?
-Divided on these groups, Ty Lee and Jin you will help me with the evacuation and defense, Katara and Toph on the front-
The ladies nodded, but then Ty Lee asked -Wait, what about Azula and Aang?
The avatar would say -It is obvious that I have to take Shaina's down.
-And Ozai is mine- Azula said
-Sister, you told me about your unfinished business with dad, but while Aang was getting prepared to fight Shaina all this time, you just recovered your powers a little time ago, are you sure?
His sister nodded -It is something that I have to do, I wouldn't feel good if I don't do this.
-Then the meeting is over, time to prepare ourselves for the incoming invasion and for our visitors don't worry, I will get sure that you receive a place where you can rest.
As everyone was being dismissed, everyone was leaving the room except for Aang, Katara and Toph, Zuko would ask
-You are not satisfied, aren't you?
Katara denied it -Aang, are you sure about this plan?
-Honestly… no, not really, the fights on River's town and on the island are still on my mind, I was barely able to damage Shaina and you and Toph had to interfere in order to almost beat her the 2nd time, if only I would have been able to kill her but you know why I can't.
-These are your own beliefs and we can't do anything to change those- Zuko added -While Ty Lee would try to change Azula's mind on fighting alone, Shaina is even worse than Ozai.
-And speaking about him, remember that our original plan was for the entire team to take him down almost 4 years ago? Why not to apply that this time? - Toph asked
Katara was surprised by that idea -Really? But you were assigned to defensive tasks.
-Until the eclipse ends, if we manage to resist those damned 8 minutes, my soldiers would be able to fight back, and then we can go to help- Zuko added

The 4 friends shared a hug, as a promise to their compromise on the incoming fight, but what would happen with Azula? As they were getting outside, Ty Lee was able to reach her

-Why to do this? Ozai is a monster worse than before, he is training on Shaina's guidance, you will have no chance if you fight him on your current state.
-Maybe, but I have to do this Ty Lee, it has to be this way.
-But why? He would be capable to kill you and you know it, he is totally heartless, not like you!
-Because I don't want anyone to suffer that!- She would scream to her turning her sight on her friend -I was used, manipulated, I turned into a monster because of him, he was my idol and I just suffered a huge disappointment for him, only for that I was able to see what I was unable to see before!... That's why I have to fight him alone, I made too much damage to the world, is just my way to give back a little of what I took from it.
Even with that, her friend took her hand -You don't have to do this alone, during that time on the earth kingdom we fought and traveled together, and you know what happened, I never intended to keep you alone on the danger, I don't want to this time.
That made Azula to tremble a little -Why to do all of this for me Ty Lee? I treated you too harshly before, I'm not that valuable.
-You are, you saved me, you wanted to be different and I didn't want you to leave that path…- she remembered the incident on the restaurant -On that moment, when you rejected Ozai I knew that you were serious, I didn't want to lose you, maybe It would be another chance to see the real Azula, the one that was not on Ozai's influence.
-The real me…- But Ty Lee…
-Please Azula…- She denied it -But why?!
-I don't want to lose you- the princess was starting to cry -Even if Lena was the first one to show care for me, you were there for me even after what happened with the two of us, I want to retrieve you that, please let me.
-Not with you being on danger.
She was just that stubborn, not like a fire bender or an air bender as she discovered just moments ago, that was making her cry

-I told you that before Azula!- And she showed her turtle duck key chain -I'm doing this because I love you!
That made Azula to take her key chain from her sleeve, pressing it with her hands and not knowing what to say at first, but then she said it –You don't know how much I appreciate thos words Ty Lee, now more than never before.
