Sam's House
"So Nigel, what made you decide to move to New York?" Adam asked.
"My grandmother passed away, I was living with her."
"You have family here?"
"Not exactly...I'm with a foster family." Nigel said.
"But Nigel is happy here. Right?" Sam asked.
"Oh, yes! They treat me well enough, I'm really happy. Especially since I met your lovely daughter." Nigel said.
"Yes, she is quite lovely. We'd like to keep her that way." Adam said.
"I understand." Nigel said.
"I'm really wary of her going out with boys. Why should I trust you?"
"I am on the honors list, school is very important to me, I choose my friends wisely, and do my best to stay out of trouble. I haven't given you a reason not to trust me." Nigel said.
"It's true, he hasn't." Sam said.
"Do your foster parents know you're here? Her sister's boyfriend is a sneak, I don't like that."
Sam bit her lip at her dad's comment, waiting to see what Nigel would say. She saw him raise his eyebrow at the comment, but he didn't say anything on the subject.
"They are aware of where I am. We have strict rules about lying about our whereabouts in the foster system." Nigel said.
Adam seemed pleased by that.
"I'm assuming you have a curfew."
"I do. An embarrassingly early curfew on the school nights, eight o'clock. I am allowed out until eleven on the weekends." Nigel said.
"Understandable."
"What do you like about New York?" Alison asked.
"It's got a magical quality you can't find anywhere else..and now Samantha of course. I could never leave her behind."
"Besides your infatuation with my daughter...I like you. You seem like you've got a good head on your shoulders. One more question." Adam said.
"Yes sir?"
"What are your opinions on sex?"
Nigel looked at Sam and smiled. "I don't believe in sexual relations outside of marriage." he said.
"And I'm not looking to get married anytime soon." Sam laughed.
"Well, that's the kind of talk I like to hear coming from a boy my daughter is interested in. She must really like you if she invited you over. You know she peeled potatoes for two hours?" Adam laughed.
"Two hours?"
"Yeah...well...can't have you eating, store bought potato salad." Sam smiled.
Her mom laughed and rolled her eyes.
Jake's House
"I've never seen you wear this shirt." Rose said, going through Jake's clothes.
"I've worn it around before. What are you doing?"
"Trying to find something for you to wear tomorrow. You aren't going dressed in your normal clothes. Sam told me to find you something else." Rose said.
She threw some shirts out of his drawers.
"You don't have to make a mess." Jake laughed.
"Do you know you own nothing suitable to wear to meet Shaniqua?" Rose asked.
"You can't find anything?" Jake said.
"No. I'm going to the store before they close, you coming?" Rose asked.
"I guess so." Jake rolled off his bed, and grabbed Rose's hand.
"So you're not tired anymore?" Jake asked.
"No. I think I just had to eat. Dinner was good, I wish your mom would let me help her clean up. I feel so bad leaving her with the mess." Rose said.
"She likes it." Jake said, kissing her hand. "Mom, we're going to the store. We'll be right back!" Jake yelled.
"Okay!"
It was a nice warm evening. The two walked down the street, where they weren't too far from the subway. They took the A train and got off in times square.
Jake got a call from his grandpa. "I have to take this." He said.
"Okay, I'm going shopping." Rose said and took off before Jake could stop her.
Jake walked into a bathroom stall for privacy. "Hello?" He asked.
"JAKE! There is a magical emergency! Get to the shop as soon as possible."
"Really gramps? I'm on a date."
"I am sure Rose will understand." Before Jake could say anything else, his grandpa hung up.
He went to find Rose.
He didn't have to look far. She walked up to him with about a dozen bags.
"I bought us both something!" Rose said.
"That was quick."
"Well when you grow up with Sam, you learn to find what you like, grab it and go before she sees it." Rose laughed.
"You really shouldn't walk off by yourself you know?" Jake asked. If there was a magical emergency then the last thing he needed was Rose getting hurt without him there.
"I know, I just wanted to let you talk to your grandpa."
"About that...there's this magical emergency. I have to go check it out." Jake said, taking Rose's hand.
"What's wrong?" Rose asked.
"I don't know. My gramps just said to go see him now." Jake eyed the bags, he took some, and laughed softly. "Grab and go? More like grab the whole store...you and Sam and Haley...I'm not used to this much...shopping."
"We're girls. We shop. Anyways, let's go see what's up in the magical universe so we can go home and try things on." Rose said.
Jake nodded.
"Will it take long?"
"I hope not."
Sam's House
"Well, dinner was splendid. I do have to go soon though." Nigel said.
"You're a good kid Nigel. I promised I'd give you a fair chance and I did." Adam said.
"Will you allow me to continue seeing your daughter?" Nigel asked.
"For now."
Sam hugged her father. "Thank you daddy!" She said.
"Yeah, yeah." He smiled, returning the hug.
Truth is, even if he didn't like Nigel he was going to let Sam keep seeing him. He already lost one daughter, he wouldn't lose another.
Sam walked Nigel to the door, he noticed a quick kiss between them but didn't say anything.
At least he was a nice boy, who seemed to care a lot about Sam.
The Shop
"Hey Fu, where's gramps? He said there was some kind of emergency. I'm sure you know all about it though." Jake said.
"Of course I do, what kind of animal guardian would I be if I missed out on news about magical enemy numero uno? What are you doing here Rose, this could get dangerous. Jake...you brought your pregnant girlfriend?"
"Numero Uno...the dark dragon? No way Fu, he's taken care of for at least a thousand years. Right?"
"The old man should explain it, and be careful. If anything happens to those babies, I'm blaming you." Fu said.
"Where is grandpa?" Jake asked.
"In the back. He's really worked up about this. Especially now. You know, because of the pregnancy." Fu said.
Jake turned to Rose. "Stay here. I don't want you involved." Jake said.
Rose nodded and sat on the couch.
Jake walked into the back and saw Nigel. "Again?" He asked.
""Trust me, I'm not happy about it either Long." He said.
"Rose is here, so can we make this quick?" Jake asked.
"I will be with you in a minute, young one. Remember, patience. Rose is safe here. I have forgotten something at my desk. I'll be right back." Lao Shi said, and left the two boys alone.
"Jake you really should learn to separate your personal life and your magical duties." Nigel said.
"We were on a date. I can't let her walk home alone...I'm sure her sister can fill you in." Jake said.
"I don't care to know."
"How'd dinner go?"
"Well, her father is allowing me to continue to see her. Of course, I wouldn't need to go through so much trouble to get their consent if it wasn't for you and Rose." Nigel said.
"We know."
There was a moment of silence before Nigel asked another question.
"Her dad called you a sneak. I know that's not like you...do I want to know?" Nigel asked.
"I'm not a sneak. We went behind his back once." Jake said.
"And she ended up pregnant." Nigel said, putting the pieces together, "Are you two really happy?" Nigel asked.
"We talked to the Oracles. Kara, said they were twins. Boy and girl...we figured it's a good thing." Jake said.
"That's not what I asked." Nigel said.
"It doesn't matter if we're happy. Which we are. This is our life now. We made a mistake, and we both knew what could happen if we had sex. Especially unprotected sex." Jake said.
Nigel looked at Jake in disbelief. "My god Long, I would have thought you were smart enough to use a condom." He said.
"We didn't mean to have sex, it was a spur of the moment thing." Jake said.
"Did you at least pull out?"
"...No."
"Well, what did you expect to happen?" Nigel asked.
"It was her first time, I figured the chances of her getting pregnant are-"
"Oh, Rubbish. You were saying that to make yourself feel better."
"Sam's parent's are putting her on birth control." Jake said.
"It doesn't matter. I did mean it when I said I believe sexual relations should be confined to marriage. We wouldn't want any accidents. Sam feels the same way, it's too bad her sister doesn't share her morals." Nigel said.
Jake laughed. "Oh yeah, Sam totally shares those morals." he said, with a hint of sarcasm. He knew he shouldn't say anything- but Nigel was really getting on his nerves tonight.
"Do you know something?" Nigel asked.
"Me? It's not my place to tell. If she wants you to know about her history with guys, and trust me she has a history with guys. But if she wants you to know, she'll tell you." Jake said.
"Long-" Nigel started, but Lao Shi walked back in. Carrying an envelope.
"It appears the Dark Dragon had not accounted for a defeat, but had taken extra precautions with Chang in case of one." Lao Shi said.
He pulled pictures and a letter out of an Envelope.
"I received this from Counselor Andam." he said.
Jake and Nigel looked at the pictures, a boy who looked to be about their age, a boy Jake and Nigel knew. They shared a quick look then looked back to the pictures and just stared in shock as he walked into a dark alley.
"Counselor Andam had noticed him start to Shift into a dragon and he took these pictures. He had never seen this boy before." Lao Shi explained.
What was even more shocking was his dragon form was identical to that of the dark dragon. His color, his size, and even his eyes looked the same.
"In the letter he writes, 'I approached the boy after he shifted back into his human form, he knew who I was and immediately shifted back into his dragon form demanding a fight. I declined, and pretended to be afraid. Luckily, something happened and he shifted back into his human form. I was able to talk to the boy. His name is Kyle and he said he had started transforming like this about a week ago. Sometimes he was in control of what he did, but most times it was like he blacked out and a destructive and angry being took over his body. Like it was looking for something. I advise you and Jake to be on alert, I am supervising Kyle until we can figure out the direness of the situation.' That is the end of the letter." Lao Shi said.
"We know him." Nigel said.
"His name is Kyle Wilkins, we went to school with him. He isn't a bad person." Jake said.
"The council thinks the Dark Dragon may be trying to take over his body. It is not an easy thing to do. Kyle must have a very strong mind and heart to be able to resist the dark dragon." His grandpa said.
"I don't know him that well, but I know someone who does." Jake said.
"You don't think-" Nigel started.
"She deserves to know what's going on with her boyfriend, besides she knows about the magical world." Jake said.
"Who are you referring to, Jake?"
"Trixie, Gramps. We should talk to her." Jake said.
"If she is his girlfriend, that may be a good idea." Lao Shi said thoughtfully.
"Do you want to do this today? She has a big day planned tomorrow." Jake said.
"Very well. We will all reconvene on Monday evening."
"Wait...Why is Nigel here?" Jake asked.
"Wizardry can be very useful against mind and body control. I expect you two to put any differences you have aside. This is a very serious matter." Lao Shi said.
"I understand." Jake said.
Fu came into the room. "Hope I'm not interrupting." He said.
"We were just finishing." Jake said.
"Jake, what do you do when Rose gets sick?" Fu asked.
"Nothing?" Jake shrugged.
"Some boyfriend." Nigel said.
"Water?" Jake asked.
"You know where it is, kid." Fu said.
"A kid having a kid. I'd say it isn't true, but I know you. I'll see you Monday, and leave the girlfriend at home please." Nigel said.
He disappeared before Jake could retaliate.
"What's his issue?" Jake asked.
"You know how people can be." Fu said.
"Whatever. I can't believe Sam would go for him. Rose only approves of their relationship because I vouched for him. He should be more thankful." Jake said.
"Kid, bring your girlfriend some water." Fu said.
"She was fine when I left her."
"I know. I think something I was eating triggered her." Fu said.
"What were you eating?"
"Just an Egg and Avocado sandwich. I offered her a bite and she ran to the bathroom." Fu said.
"Egg and Avocado sandwich? The smell of eggs makes her sick, and personally that sounds disgusting." Jake said.
"Don't knock it till you try it." Fu said.
Jake rolled his eyes. Rose came out of the bathroom. "Sorry." She said.
"Don't apologize. Here's some water. You gotta stay hydrated." Jake said.
"Can we still go home and try on clothes?" Rose asked.
Jake chuckled and kissed her forehead. "Of course we can."
"Try on clothes?" Fu asked.
"Shut-up."
A/N: I eat Egg and Avocado sandwiches. A reader requested I bring back the dark dragon, which I LOVED the idea, I was like how can I do that? He's such a big villain to bring back. SO this is what I came up with. The pieces will come together. Also this weekend is going by really slowly I know, it's hard to fit EVERYTHING in. Trust me, even if it seems like some things come out of no where, everything has a purpose. I'm really working hard on updating these for you guys. Reviews please? Goodnight!
