Chapter 39

Kara engaged her Kryptonite protection and easily caught the missile. The problem was she was finding it hard to redirect the weapon. Her strength was not where it should be and with only the moon out, there was no chance of getting her strength back in time.

"Need a hand?" A familiar voice asked. Kara smirked as Clark quickly scanned the missile. This one was without nuclear material, just like the first one. Though there was Kryptonite, just like the other one. Working together, the two managed to redirect the missile into the ocean but both were feeling weak.

"Man that sucks. Can I get a helmet?" Clark asked as they sat down on the beach.

"I'll see what Lena can do for you. I think we have a bigger problem than the Kryptonite though," Kara finally admitted. Her cousin was confused until she deactivated the helmet. That's when he noticed the blood in the corner of her mouth.

"What the hell happened?" Superman could feel his strength returning with the Kryptonite was so far away.

"Lex's Nth metal suit. I think my ribs are a mess," his cousin said before a coughing fit that took her by surprise. She spit blood into the sand and her eyes went wide.

"We need to get back to the Super Friends," he said. Kara nodded and quickly reengaged her protective suit, hoping it would help her heal a little or at least prevent further injury. Gently, Clark scooped up his cousin and headed into the sky.

"Oh the indignity," Kara joked. Clark looked at her. While he imagined that, for her, it would be a bit of humiliation being carried by her cousin, especially since she'd managed to beat the hell out of him during the Daxamite invasion, he was surprised she'd say anything to him. Kara could be proud at times and she had every right to be. The blonde had withstood more than the average human or alien had and had done with her strength of will and her innate need to help others. With J'onn's help, she'd formed a team that Clark wouldn't want to go up against.

"Kate was teasing me when I had to help her earlier over the barbed wire fence," she explained.

"You two get along quite well don't you?" He was hoping it was distracting her, figuring she had to be in a lot of pain.

"We do. She's a good person," Kara smiled. Clark flew through one of the many holes in the formerly hidden bunker and made his way down to the main room where Kara figured her friends would be. What they found was a scene of udder chaos.

J'onn and M'gann were still fighting with Lillian's suit – it was obvious that Lillian was no longer in control and the Nth metal was slowly trying to take over. Kate and Nia were starting to get exhausted fighting with Andrea over by the computer bank. The woman's ability to use the shadows had the two capable women running around, doing whatever they could to corral her. Lena was at the brink of pounding the keyboard on the computer bank as Kate's attempt to use the manual override should not have locked them all out.

Clark set Kara down and quickly went to help J'onn and M'gann. They needed to get Lillian out of the suit and figure out a way to deactivate the newly active metal. Kara flew over to Kate and Nia to see what they could do. There was no way to eliminate the shadows like they'd been able to do back at J'onn's office. Kara got an idea though.

"Duck!" She told her friends. The two ladies quickly did as she asked and ducked down. Kara used her freeze breath and blew onto the spot that Andrea had been. Ice formed and Andrea screamed but just as quickly as they heard the scream, she was gone. They had a bigger problem though. Using her lungs like that, had caused Kara to drop to one knee, trying to get some air in.

"You need some yellow sun generators," Nia said. The human-Naltorian hybrid protected her friend while Kate searched the now frozen area.

"I think she took off…" Kate reported back. There was something one the ground that her brain couldn't reconcile. Nia helped Kara to her feet and directed her to a chair, not too far away.

"Can you freeze shadows?" Kate suddenly asked from her spot a few feet away. She'd crouched down to get a better look at what she thought she saw.

"What?" Lena wanted to know. She'd given up hope of cracking the computer. They would need Brainy's help. Kate with her palm facing the ceiling, she moved her forefinger and middle finger towards herself, indicating for Lena to come look at what she found. The raven-haired woman walked over to her and gagged at what she saw. It appeared to be fingers.

J'onn, M'gann, and Clark were struggling to free Lillian. The metal withstood the bashing, freeze breath, and heat vision. The Martians couldn't phase through it to break the bonds that now held the Luthor Matriarch.

"Keep pulling on her! I have an idea!" Clark shot off back toward Lex's cratered suit. Nth metal on Nth metal might be their only shot at freeing Lillian.
