Mummy used to say: "a smile never hurts". Mummy would always smile, and gently lift the corners of Luna's lips up.

"There we go," Mummy would say and smile even brighter at Luna's gap-toothed grin.

Mummy liked to think that happiness was the most important thing there was. It was the greatest form of magic, for Mummy.

"It's like a little ball of fire, lighting you up on the inside and making you feel special all day long." That's what Mummy would say, and Luna wholeheartedly agreed.

Mummy liked to experiment, too. She liked to try out new things, play with magic. She was amazing at it, and came up with so many wonderful spells that helped their world become a better place

Luna looked up to Mummy, she definitely did. She wanted to be just like Mummy when she grew up.

One day, Mummy was really excited. She had gotten an idea for a spell, a spell that would truly change the world.

"It's a happiness spell, something that will always make people smile," she told Luna one evening. Mummy liked to tell Luna all about her spells, as if they were bedtime stories. Luna loved listening to her.

The idea was simple, take an easy 'rictumsempra', the laughing spell, and change if ever so slightly, just some fiddling with its core runes and the wand movement, even change a vowel or two perhaps and you would have a brand new spell: something that would make people smile, but not because they were forced, but because they were actually truly happy.

But it turned out that happiness was dangerous. Too much fiddling made a balanced spell made it unbalanced. Mummy died because of it.

Now, looking at the open coffin, Luna couldn't help but notice how Mummy was smiling, still.

But now she wasn't too sure about what Mummy had said. Maybe a smile could hurt.
