CHAPTER FORTY THREE

YUGI'S POV

Yugi squeezed his eyes shut as wind whipped past him and whistled in his ears. Being tossed around by some invisible force probably forty feet off ground didn't help his fear of falling. He simply wanted it to be over.

Suddenly he was released, and he opened his eyes, screaming as he fell to the ground. "AAAAAAGGGGHHH!" With a hard thump, he landed, wincing. "Ugh, at least it's sand. I hope nothing's broken."

He tried to stand up and immediately fell down, spots dancing in his vision. 'Shit that...really hurt. My leg is broken I think. I don't even know how.' He looked at his legs, seeing a bone poking out of his right calf. His face turned green, and he threw up.

"Oh that is just, vile." A voice remarked.

Yugi spun his head around, startled, and saw Yami Bakura staring down at him, a sneer on his face.

Yugi mentally sighed. He couldn't go anywhere, he was caught. "Fine. You got me. What now?"

Yami Bakura frowned. "Well that's no fun. Fight a little will you? Oh wait. You can't. I guess this makes things easier. Especially since your precious other half isn't here to save you. Oh this will be glorious."

Realization hit Yugi. "You summoned that wind to kidnap me didn't you?"

Yami Bakura knelt down to eye level, his startling blank brown eyes boring into Yugi's soul.

"Yes, I did. Now then. You're going to do everything I say, or you'll find your other leg broken."

Yugi widened his eyes in fear, but didn't say anything.

Yami Bakura laughed softly, but maniacally. (If that's even possible. -.-) "Oho. Is that fear in your eyes? How delightful. That will make this sweeter. Now. Stand up. We're going to an ancient tomb dedicated to Sobek. You know who that is yes?"

Yugi thought for a second. "Umm, that's the crocodile god right?"

Yami Bakura clapped sarcastically. "That's correct. Very good job." He grabbed Yugi's arm and pulled him up, forcing him to stand.

Yugi cried out in pain, clenching his jaw as thick blood ran down his leg. He felt himself swaying, but Yami Bakura slapped him harshly.

"None of that!" He hissed. He muttered a spell under his breath, and suddenly Yugi couldn't feel the pain anymore. He glanced down, but the bone was still there, covered in blood. Warm blood still flowed down his leg, turning the sand red.

"What, what did you do?" Yugi whispered.

Yami Bakura turned, staring at the horizon. "I just tricked your brain. You can't feel the pain anymore. Now walk!" He started fowards, not waiting for Yugi.

Yugi hobbled after him, frowning. "It'll get infected if I continue using my leg!" Yami Bakura stopped walking, tensing. Yugi stopped too, feeling the air turn dangerous. After a moment of silence, Yami Bakura continued walking. "I don't care."

Yugi sighed through his nose, and followed him again, feeling weird as his body wasn't sure it should be moving.

He decided to ask another question, hoping the white haired spirit tolerated it. "How will a tomb in the middle of a desert have water? I mean, Sobek is a crocodile god. Wouldn't his tomb be where water is?"

Yami Bakura growled low in his throat, but answered. "He's a god Yugi. He can make water anywhere. Now stop asking questions."

Yugi shut his mouth, annoyed but glad he got an answer. He turned his head, seeing a trail of blood following him. 'Just great. That will attract predators.' He turned his head forwards, seeing the sun starting to go down. A yip sounded in the air, then faded.

Yugi shivered. 'That sounded like a Jackal. Oh no...'

A huge cliff suddenly rose in the horizon. Yami Bakura trudged on. "That, is our destination."

Yugi wisely didn't answer, deciding that Yami Bakura's threat about his other leg was more important than being curious.

The sun was dipping below the horizon when they reached the cliff. A huge waterfall roared down from the top, parting into two sides as a stone stairway lead downwards.

Yami Bakura started down the steps, motioning impatiently for Yugi to follow.

Down the steps they went, Yugi awkwardly going down sideways. Reaching the bottom, Yugi found it hard to breath, the stale air smothering his senses. A long hallway lay before them, with gold walls on either side. Hieroglyphs covered them, depicting ancient stories.

Hobbling down the hallway, Yugi's breath caught in his throat as cold air wooshed from up ahead. Yami Bakura did not falter, determination in his stride.

Finally Yugi limped to a stop beside the spirit, afraid of what he saw before him.

The hallway had opened up into a huge round room, with trickling water seeping from cracks in the walls. The floor was a pool of water, just barely lapping at their feet. About five full grown crocodiles lazily swam about, slapping their tails in the water.

Mummified crocodiles were strewn about like grotesque decorations. In the front of the room sat a huge golden throne, the arms shaped like snarling crocodiles, with rubies for eyes. A huge skeleton sat slumped in the throne, covered by crocodile skins and elaborate blue jewelry. But the head was a huge crocodile skull, it's eye sockets seemingly watching Yugi.

The crocodiles sniffed the air, smelling Yugi's blood, but didn't do anthing about it. Their beady black eyes were watching him though, just like the skeleton.

Yugi frowned, wondering wether he should ask a question or not. 'Ah screw it.' He thought. "Um, Bakura, just a thought. I thought gods didn't die."

Yami Bakura glared at him. "He's not dead fool. He's just in a deep sleep."

"But the skeleton..." Yugi mentioned.

Yami Bakura raised his eyebrow, making Yugi feel like he really was a fool. "Bodies deteriorate over time yeah?"

He grabbed Yugi's arm and yanked him after him, striding into the pool. Yugi's blood turned the water red, and the reptiles snarled excitedly. Yugi shivered, the hairs on his neck rising.

Stepping up to the throne, Yami Bakura pushed Yugi down. Yugi fell into a knelt position, the bone starting to crack. Yugi resisted the urge to vomit again. Yami Bakura reached into the crocodile's skull mouth, taking out a crude bronze knife caked in blood.

He turned to Yugi, the light of madness in his eyes.

Yugi eyed him warily. "Are you going to kill me?"

Yami Bakura laughed. "No...no I won't do that. But I will make an offering to Sobek."

He grabbed Yugi's hand and sliced his palm, causing Yugi to grit his teeth in pain. 'Guess he only stopped the pain for my leg.'

Pulling Yugi up again, he raised Yugi's hand over the skull and squeezed it, the blood running down the sides of the skull. A rumble shook the tomb, and dust rained down. The skull's eyes glowed red, then started pulsing. The rumbling stopped.

Yugi glanced around. "Nothing's happening." Yami Bakura let go of his arm and snorted.

"Oh something's happening all right. But it'll take a few days for Sobek to properly wake up. Now follow me. We're going to the next tomb."

Yugi followed him through pool again, nervous of the crocodiles. "What do you mean the next tomb?"

Yami Bakura walked through the hallway, his voice echoing back. "I'm going to awaken the gods, and send them to the real word. I'll rule both worlds when I kill your Yami and the Pharaoh too! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Yugi reluctantly hobbled down the hallway, dread filling his being.

'Is there even any god I can pray to then? To help me? Yami...please hurry. Or the world could be in jeopardy!'
