Oxford. Province of Midston. A week after Melody's abdication.
Melody Addington felt nervous as she got out of the car in front of her new in laws' house. After Melody and Noah had escaped the palace, they had found a hotel in New Orleans where they had stayed for a few days to have some time alone. Once what was being called the "2121 revolution" broke out. The two lovers were hopeful that King Maxon II would be far too busy holding onto his crown to worry about them.
They decided that it would be best to quietly elope instead of having a big wedding. The last thing that either of them needed was the press making their love into a big fiasco. They went to a courthouse and were quickly wed by a justice of the peace. When Melody and Noah watched the news and learned that Jessamine had fled the country in disgrace and Maxon had been lynched along with his most unscrupulous lackeys, they both had mixed feelings about the great matter.
Noah on one hand was grateful that Melody's parents were no longer in a position to harm them due to her abdication and their marriage, but he also felt for Melody because she was now without family; save himself.
Melody on the other hand was also grateful that she was now free to live peacefully as Noah's wife. She would have been a liar however, if she had claimed that she felt no remorse for her father's death and hurt feelings for her mother abandoning her. Noah felt for her inner confliction and comforted her as best he could. Even though he despised them intently, Noah made a point not to talk badly about Maxon and Jessamine unless he was agreeing with his wife. Once the revolution was in its twilight and the mobs had died down, Melody and Noah returned to his hometown of Oxford to begin their new lives as commoners and as husband and wife. Noah's parents were expecting them because after getting eloped, he called them and told them that he had married Melody in a private ceremony. They had been a bit disappointed, but they also understood the need for secrecy, at least until King Maxon II and Queen Jessamine were no longer threats.
"You ready to meet your new family?" Noah asked as he wrapped his arm around her waist.
"I'm so nervous...I hope they like me." Melody replied as Noah rang the doorbell.
"They are going to love you...because I love you." Noah insisted as he kissed her on the lips.
When the door opened, Noah's mother was surprised and overjoyed to see her son and his new wife on the doorstep.
"Noah!" she exclaimed as she wrapped him in a hug. "I'm so glad to see you back, I was so worried when I heard about the riots at the capital."
"We got out before the trouble started." Noah assured his mother as he returned her embrace. Once they had hugged it out, Noah stood aside and the former princess stepped inside the Addington home. Mrs. Addington came and wrapped Melody in an equally tight embrace.
"You sweet girl, I'm so sorry for everything that happened to you." she said as Melody returned it. "I am so honored to have you as my daughter in law."
"Thank you." Melody replied softly as Noah's mother gave her a kiss on the forehead. The three walked into the living room where Noah's old man was waiting for them.
"My boy!" he exclaimed as he gave Noah another hug.
"It's good to see you dad." Noah replied as Mr. Addington let go of his son and wrapped his new daughter in law in a bear hug.
"Welcome to the family Melody." he said as the former princess was happy that Noah's mom and dad had accepted her with open arms.
"Let's go into the kitchen, I made a big wedding feast and a chocolate cake to go with it." Mrs. Addington declared. Noah and Melody did not need to be told twice as they both hauled ass into the kitchen and feasted until they could feast no more.
Later that night.
After dinner and a detailed account of what had happened during the selection, both married couples decided to go to bed. Since the Addingtons didn't have a guest room, Noah and Melody had to sleep on the couch; but they didn't mind.
"I can't eat another bite." Melody teased as Noah snuggled close to his wife.
"My mom's cooking tends to do that." he shrugged as he kissed her on the lips.
"If we're going to live here, I better start working out." she said as Noah cleared his throat.
"Actually...thanks to my payments from the selection, we can get an apartment." he insisted as Melody looked at him.
"Really?"
"Yeah, I figured that I would give some to my parents and take the rest to help us get out own place and maybe someday...go on a vacation."
"You mean it?" she asked.
"World is an awfully big place. Why would I want to spend my life in only one small part of it?" Noah asked as he caressed her.
"I'd like that." Melody replied as she kissed her husband deeply. She was ready for her new life and whatever it had in store for her.
NOAH AND MELODY ARE FINALLY HAPPY. THE NEXT CHAPTER WILL BE THE LAST ONE. REVIEWS NEEDED AND APPRECIATED.
