I know I haven't updated in a month, I'm sorry. I've had no motivation to edit a chapter. I still don't have motivation, so I'm just posting one. I hope you enjoy it! This is based after the season 6 finale.
Reception
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Emma questioned, her hand tight around Killian's as they stood in front of Granny's. Through the blinds, Emma could see what looked like half the town enjoying themselves. More people we're going to show up soon. Her mother had invited the entire town. The decorations outside Granny's proved that.
Killian looked at her curiously. "Why wouldn't it be, Swan?"
Emma shrugged. "I don't know. It feels too soon."
"Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't these wedding receptions usually take place right after the wedding?"
She nodded.
"And it has been three days since our wedding."
"I know, I know, but it's just…it feels too good to be true. You know?"
"Aye."
Emma turned to stare at her husband's face. "We just defeated Gideon. Shouldn't we, like, be on our toes?"
He kissed her forehead softly. "I think we deserve a break. Anyway, your mother would kill both of us if we didn't show up."
She snorted. "Probably."
He gave her a soft smile. "Let's go enjoy these quiet moments, huh?"
"This will hardly be quiet," she said as he pulled her to the door.
"You know what I mean." He sent her another smile before opening the door to the diner. Everyone inside froze when they saw the couple, their eyes locking on them.
Emma gulped. "Um, hi?"
Snow broke through the crowd, beaming. "There you are!" And just like that, the party was back in swing. Snow quickly pulled them both into hugs, David following suit.
"I am so happy for you two!" the princess gushed when she pulled away from Killian.
"Mom, it's been three days. Calm down."
"I know! Three days!" She clapped her hands. "I can't believe my baby is married!"
Emma rolled her eyes, meeting Killian's. He gazed at her lovingly.
"I can't believe it either," he whispered.
Emma's cheeks flushed and she stood on her toes, pressing a kiss to her husband's lips before turning back to her parents.
"Let's let them go talk to everyone else," David told his wife, grabbing her hand. "We need to get back to Neal before Granny gives him too much sugar."
As her parents disappeared, Emma wrapped her arms around Killain's waist. He pulled her closer into his side, dropping a kiss to her head. "You all right, love?"
"Yeah, you?"
"With you by my side, always."
"You're so cheesy."
"Mom! Killian!"
The couple's eyes snapped up to see Henry appear with Violet's hand in his. The grin he wore was almost as large as Snow's.
"What's up, kid?" Emma asked, perking up at the sight of her son.
The three days following Gideon's defeat had been some of the best of Emma's life. Her mother and Regina had taken over planning the reception, Emma telling Regina that she had to reign in her mother's crazy ideas. Killian and Emma had spent most of the three days curled up on the couch, soaking in each other's presence as they shared stories and thoughts. Henry had stayed at Regina's house the entire time. Though Emma was grateful for the alone time with Killian, she'd missed seeing her son every morning. She knew Killian felt the same. However, she also knew neither of them would change a thing.
"Happy three day anniversary," Henry teased.
Emma laughed. "Thanks, Henry."
"We've missed you, lad," Killian said, running his hand up and down Emma's arm. "You must come back soon."
Emma's heart warmed. "You've had enough of me already?"
Killian shook his head. "Never, but we have too many left overs for us to eat by ourselves. We need your boy's help."
"Well," Henry interceded, "when you put it like that, how could I refuse?"
Another laugh left Emma's lips. "You have to come over for dinner some time too, Violet. We have plenty of food to go around."
Violet nodded, a smile on her face as she glanced at Henry. "Of course. I'd love to."
With a smile and promise to visit the next day, Henry and Violet disappeared into the crowd of guests. Throughout the night, it seemed like every citizen in Storybrooke congratulated them, even some Emma barely recognized.
"I've never even talked to Jack and Jill," Emma whispered as the two strangers walked away. "I didn't realize they were real, too."
Killian chuckled. "They seemed to know you."
"It's only because of my parents."
"I think it might be more that you broke the curse that trapped them here."
Emma held back an eyeroll.
After another ten minutes of congratulations and thanks for saving them from countless villains, everything was starting to blur together. Emma's grip on Killian had tightened, her smile had grown more and more strained.
"Come on." Killian kissed his wife's furrowed eyebrows. "Let's take a break."
Emma glanced up at him, surprised. "Why?"
"Because." He steered them to the back door, hoping no one stopped them.
Emma didn't argue, smiling softly as her husband led them outside. When he turned them away from Main Street, her heart warmed. Today had been the first day she had been back to the place she had almost left her family. She didn't know if she could do it again any time soon.
Killian led them down a side street with a flickering lamp post. Emma made a mental note to get someone to fix that.
"Where are we going?" she asked after a minute of silent walking. "If my mom realizes we're gone, she'll have our heads."
"We'll be back before anyone notices our absence," he assured, tightening his arm around her shoulders, resting his head on hers.
Emma turned slightly so she was closer to him. "You still didn't answer my question."
"Our favorite place, of course."
She should have known.
It was another few minutes before they reached the docks. As soon as they did, Emma's body relaxed. The smell of the sea drove every other thought from her mind. When they sat down on their bench, Emma pulled Killian's arm more securely around her.
"Thank you," she whispered.
"Of course, love."
"How did you know?"
He hummed questioningly.
"That I wanted to leave for a minute?"
"I would be a poor excuse for a husband if I couldn't tell when my wife was feeling overwhelmed."
She laughed softly. "I love you."
"I love you, too."
When they eventually made their way back to Granny's, they both felt lighter. Their family was clearing the middle of the diner out when they entered.
"There you are!" Snow said, exasperated. She sped across the room and grabbed her daughter's hand, pulling them into the middle.
"Mom, what are you doing?" Emma groaned, keeping her grip on Killian's hand tight.
"It's time for your first dance!" she exclaimed. Without another word, she sped away, leaving the couple in the middle of the room.
Emma stared at the place her mother had been blankly for a moment before looking at her husband, her eyes wide.
He smirked, pulling her arms around his shoulders and resting his hand and hook on her waist. "What do you say, Swan? Dance with me?"
Her surprise was replaced with an eye roll. "I suck at dancing."
"That's why we're going to do your world's version of a waltz."
She narrowed her eyes. "You knew about this, didn't you?"
"Your mother may have mentioned it to me."
"And you forgot to mention it to me?"
He shrugged. "It was meant to be a surprise."
Emma was about to respond when music filled the diner. Her month immediately dropped. "Is this…?"
Killian studied her carefully, moving them slowly around the floor. "Aye. You remember?"
"Of course I remember." Her voice was soft, full of awe. "How did you find it?"
"I remember everything from that night," he said, memories of their adventure in the past swirling in his mind. "Especially that dance." He let go of her waist and grabbed one of her hands with his own.
She met his gaze, her eyes watery. "Me, too."
Killian kissed her gently and rested his forehead on hers as they danced. He could barely believe the joy he felt. Fate had given him the best gift he could have ever asked for—his beautiful wife, who seemed just as content as he was.
As the song came to an end, Killian wound his arms around Emma's waist, holding her close. She rested her head on his chest, her arms around his neck.
"I love you," he breathed, kissing her head.
Emma lifted her head, beaming at him. "I love you, too, Killian."
Soon, it was David's turn to dance with Emma. Then Henry's. Then, with much persuasion on Snow's part, her and Killian made their way to the dance floor. After that, the music sped up and slow dancing disappeared. Emma and Killian found themselves in the back booth, tucked into each other's side and whispering anything that came to their minds.
"I think my mom is a little bitter that I didn't wear my wedding dress," Emma commented as she watched her parents dance with Neal.
"Why would you think that, love?" he murmured into her hair, running his hand up her arm.
"Did you see the wedding scrapbooks she has? She had so many plans for the reception. I feel kind of bad she didn't get to do it all."
He twirled a strand of her hair in his hand. "I think she's happy as long as you are."
"Did she tell you to say that?"
"No, I just know she loves you. Almost as much as I love you, but not quite."
Emma's lips quirked up . "I think my mom would argue."
Killian chuckled, pressing his lips to her head again. "Try as she may, I would win."
"I'm sure you would." Emma found his hand and entangled their fingers, leaning against him more and letting out a sigh. Her eyes slipped closed.
Killian's thumb rubbed circles on her hand. "You ready to go home?"
She nodded. "We should grab Henry and sneak out."
"It would be bad form for him to leave Lady Violet."
"It's late. He needs to go to bed."
"Perhaps."
Emma pushed herself up. "Come on." She dragged Killian to his feet and pulled him through the crowd. "I hope my mom doesn't see us." She heard Killian laugh behind her.
David appeared in front of them with Neal in his arms right as they reached the door. "You guys leaving already?"
"Aye." Killian rested his hand on Emma's back, coming to stand next to her. "We were about to grab Henry. Do you know where he is?"
"Um…." David glanced over their shoulders. "I think him and Violet went outside to see Pongo. Archie's out there."
Emma's eyes flickered around the room. Her mother stood in the far corner, talking to Granny and Leroy. Any moment, she could look toward them and stop them. "Thanks, Dad. Do me a favor and don't tell Mom we left?"
David smiled. "Sure."
Emma gave him a quick hug and opened the door. "Gotta go!" She yanked Killian out of the diner and down the steps. Henry and Violet were petting Pongo and talking to Archie.
After a quick greeting to the former cricket and Violet, Emma and Killian were walking home with Henry at their side.
"Do we have to eat leftovers when we get home?" he teased.
Emma rolled her eyes and threw her arm around his shoulder. "Maybe tomorrow."
Killian tightened his grip on Emma's hand. He didn't think he would ever get over the relief of hearing her say tomorrow and knowing she would be there to fulfill that promise. "Aye."
I hope you enjoyed that chapter! Sorry if there were any typos!
