A/N: This review episode (and the next after this one) is gonna be a flashback session akin to the RWBY/Maka Albarn Man of Steel review, in which this time will be focusing on how RWBY met Sinon and Leafa prior to their appearances in the In Search of the Titanic review episode (alongside Athena Cykes for the next review episode after this). Takes place a couple hours after the Forest Warrior review. Also the first act of a flashback companion duology for this review episode and the next before the Season 2 Part 2 finale of this story leading to Part 3 later on.
P.S.: 75 chapters in. Almost 275,000 words... Getting this far is only just the beginning.
In this thirty-eighth review episode, team RWBY reminiscences the day the four Beacon huntresses from Remnant first met fellow Sword Art Online characters Sinon and Leafa during their five-day excursion on Earth, as the six of them spent a wonderful time at the Akihabara district of Tokyo, whilst Sinon and Leafa team up with RWBY to review the 1993 horror film Leprechaun.
Team RWBY, Sinon and Leafa's Commentary of Leprechaun (Part 1)
(RWBY's Reminiscence Act I)
EDO ISLAND
5PM
After an amazing afternoon hanging out with their friends, team RWBY, Sinon and Leafa were having friendly conversations as they were wandering around Baiken's castle, now walking through the corridor where the washitsu, training and tatami rooms were at. Team RWBY were still wearing their wonderful kimonos from earlier in the day, and they seem to feel comfortable in it for the time being.
"I can't believe you reviewed a Chuck Norris film without us.", Ruby and Yang said to their friends Blake and Weiss, "But I think Natsume had fun reviewing it with you."
Blake mellowed, "Yes, she did. Norris was a legend indeed, as much as the mystical Edo Island is. Plus her Australian accent has suited her so far."
"Can't argue with that, but she took that very well. So glad we all had more time together afterwards and went around the kingdom.", Weiss said, smiling happily.
Sinon added, "Yeah. We've discovered some examples, alright. The samurai ride on horses like medieval Japan, the kabuki theaters here looked so authentic as it was back then, the music was a mix of shamisen and modern hip-hop, and the marketplace was vast and busy for the most part. Fuu seemed to love the music very much."
"Sounds like she already has a fascination with her taste of music since she's from a past century.", smirked Sinon's girlfriend Leafa.
The blue-haired sniper acknowledges, "Faye and Iki enjoyed the Samurai Kingdom so far as well. Fuu and the two of them go very well when they're together. Like us and our friends."
"Not to mention our collaborations we had together. Faye, Fuu, Iki, Miria, Mika, Celty, Ann, Futaba, Natsume, you two, the list will go on.", Ruby recounted, "We even remember the first time we met the two of you. The same time we did our first review together."
Sinon replies, "Of course we remember. That was a year ago, right?"
"Yes. Last night, we reminiscenced about our first review and meeting with Maka and Tsubaki. Back then, we did a double whammy review of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. The review we did together the day we met was a horror movie called Leprechaun...", Yang imagines.
Leafa said, "Leprechaun, huh? Good thing we remembered reviewing that film. Sinon even reviewed on the sequels later on afterwards."
"We met at a cafe in Tokyo during our exploratory excursion to there and L.A. that lasted for five days last year.", Blake remembers what had happened.
Weiss also said, "During those few days, We stayed at a wonderful hotel, went around and saw the landmarks of Tokyo, and we all had a great time..."
"And it couldn't be any better.", the leader of team RWBY proudly remarked, reminiscing the mentioned events of their first meeting.
One year earlier...
AKIHABARA, TOKYO
10AM
"I can't believe it.", Ruby giggled happily as she walking with her teammates Yang, Blake and Weiss, "I'm so proud we're on an excursion for less than a week's time. Ozpin and Glynda must be so kind for us to give us a vacation like this after training and battling Grimm in Beacon. Already, we're exploring the anime district in Akihabara here, and now we're already starting to love it!"
Yang agreed, "After finding a great hotel in Tokyo like the Mandarin Oriental and staying in the perfect Executive Suite we've booked, our leisurement has reached a whole new level.", sighing in relaxation, "Nothing like the home where all the animes are mainstream and all the technology is advancing as much as our home back in Remnant."
"Not to mention that I helped pay for the stay at the hotel?", Weiss informed.
Blake offered, "Thanks, Weiss. If it's not a worry, I'll help you out with the next one later on after Tokyo."
"I'm eternally grateful for that, that's for sure, Blake.", responded Weiss calmly and steadfast.
The leader of team RWBY ecstatically asked, "So, since we haven't had breakfast yet...and though we haven't felt hungry and haven't had breakfast a few hours ago, where do you think we should go to? It'll be on me anyway."
"I think the cafe seems to be the best place to go for now. I mean, the sushi and cuisine was very well done and so delicious in our opinion, there's no point in arguing that the cafes here must be great here too!", suggests the elder sister of Ruby Rose.
The Faunus considered, "I think coffee here would be a nice refreshment alongside our lunch. Tea, even."
"Now you're talking.", proudly says the Schnee heiress, considering the fact about her love of coffee as a refreshment as well.
The red-haired huntress said as they noticed the Square Enix Cafe not too far from them, "Hey! How about that place?"
"The Square Enix Cafe? You mean the cafe based on the studio of famous video games such as Bravely Default, Octopath Traveller, Just Cause, Final Fantasy, Tomb Raider and Dragon Quest?", the blonde huntress giddily questioned in surprise.
Her younger huntress sister nodded, "That's about the size of it."
"I'm in.", Ruby's older sister pumped her fist, "You?", then asking to Blake and Weiss.
The black-haired and white-haired huntresses look at one another, smile, and answered, "Whatever suits you, we're fine with it."
"I'm in the mood for food!", Ruby cheerfully delighted with her love for food, "Especially sweets like cookies and all."
Yang giggled, "I too feel like eating pancakes."
"Let's go.", Blake and Weiss said as the two held hands intimately, as the four of them go to the cafe.
Once they were about to enter when they got there, Ruby accidentally bumps into someone as she was distracted on her Scroll when trying to text to their fellow friends , as both fell on the ground by accident.
"Ow...", Ruby and another person said, the former saying, "Oh... We didn't mean to-", before she, Yang, Blake and Weiss saw who they bumped into.
It was two girls that Ruby bumped into, and they seemingly looked like they're from the Sword Art Online series, but their appearances aren't as what they were in the real world from the series, and they had their avatar appearances in their place.
The first girl had thin, casually short swaying pale-blue hair (a tuft of hair was also tied up on both sides of her forehead) and blue eyes, while she was wearing her desert-colored military jacket, bulletproof armor of the same color, a white muffler around her neck, and combat boots.
The second had long blonde hair tied up with a flower-like hairband (although her hair bangs are not tied up with her hair), bright green eyes and pointy ears, wearing beautiful white and green clothes with a collar on her neck having the same colors.
"Hello?", the leader of team RWBY shyly introduced, "Are you alright?", as she and Yang offer their hands to help the two up, "We're terribly sorry..."
The blue-haired girl excused, "It's all right. You don't have to apologize, it's good."
"Accidents happen.", the blonde girl eased, "We didn't see you guys coming because we were heading to the Square Enix Cafe."
Weiss apologized, "We were headed there too. Ruby's head was up in the clouds texting on her Scroll device."
"Scroll?", the blue-haired girl questions.
Yang told, "It's like mobile devices here on Earth. It's our own way of smartphones back home in Remnant."
"Remnant? Are you from the other planet close to here?", interested the blue-haired girl.
Blake nodded, "Yes. We're official huntresses from the Beacon Academy in Vale and protectors of the planet Remnant, known as team RWBY, based on our initials of our first names. We came here for an excursion on Earth, like a vacation of sorts."
"That's amazing! We've never met anybody from Remnant before! Never knew since people from that world tend to visit here.", the blonde joyfully said.
Ruby said, "Yeah, we guess planetary travel has been advancing from Remnant for quite some time. We'll get used to it.", before introducing herself, "In case you're wondering by our team's initials, my name is Ruby Rose. These are our friendly teammates Weiss Schnee and Blake Belladonna, and this is my older sister Yang Xiao Long. You are?"
"I'm Sinon. This here is my lovely girlfriend Leafa."
"Hi!", Leafa giggled.
Team RWBY's jaws went agape.
The four huntresses exclaim, "Girlfriend?!"
"Yeah...", hesitated Sinon by their reaction, "We started dating for a while. Apparently we became friends online and played on the virtual games like Sword Art Online, Alfheim Online, Gun Gale Online and Ordinal Scale with our other friends."
Weiss then says, "No kidding. Coincidentally, me and Blake here started a relationship some time ago."
"Wow.", Leafa amazed, "Already, two of you are girlfriends too? Consider this day as a double date for us."
Blake shrugged, "I wouldn't call it by that, but..."
"May seem like it. We're gonna be planning to eat breakfast here for the day before the both of us have to go on with our time together, you know?", plans Sinon.
Ruby and Yang pointed out, "I feel like we should go inside and have food now. We have a lot to talk about.", happily smiling and closing her eyes momentarily at the same time.
Sinon had a mellow look on her face as she smiled back at team RWBY, before the six of them proceed inside the cafe.
Inside the cafe, Ruby reserved themselves a table and settled in, getting themselves the breakfast foods they're ordering.
Ruby ordered herself an order of Foley's Colorful Pancakes, Yang gets herself an Elvis beverage, Blake and Weiss get themselves meat buns that were decorated to look like Slime from Dragon Quest as well as two orders of hot coffee, while Sinon gets herself a blue Gloria beverage and her girlfriend Leafa ordering a green Set beverage.
"This place is very decent here. We're not too big into RPGs and such ourselves, but we're very aware of our Grimm Eclipse video game here on Earth.", mentioned Ruby, "Not to mention the fact that we do movies in our free spare time."
Sinon overheard this, "Wait, you review movies in your spare time as huntresses of Remnant."
"Well, yes. Obviously because we find it to be fun.", Yang says for her younger sister.
Leafa curiously tilted her head, "Like what kind of movies in particular?"
"Some good, mostly bad.", Blake shrugged, "For example, Son of the Mask or Foodfight."
Sinon was surprised by that, "Gee...that's pretty awful. Honestly if I have to say this, but during our spare time, we review movies as well. Sometimes, outside of our virtual reality gaming."
"Whoa... Never thought we were the only ones reviewing movies. Some time ago, we met these girls over at Death City and both Ruby and Yang reviewed Man of Steel with her...", callbacked Weiss.
Leafa agreed, "Never knew that. The kind of movies that I sometimes review with Sinon, in which she seems to cover up, are bizarre Hollywood films and exploitation flicks from the past."
"My gods.", Ruby says in shock and awe, "Shut up. You mean like those movies most people forgot about and low-budget horror movie flicks?"
Sinon nods.
Yang smirked as Ruby smiled in surprise, "Same topic, different genre. I can honestly see that."
"You know what movie we should do since we're here now? We've heard of a horror movie from 1993 that we found online for a bit called Leprechaun. Seems to be based on the St. Patrick's Day icon, and we feel like this movie treats the four-foot men in green hats, pointy shoes and high-pitched voices as the epitome of fear.", Ruby thought to her friends.
Blake and Weiss shrug off, "I have no problem with that."
"This is our first review together for the first time, so we'll be obliged to join.", Sinon told.
Ruby acknowledged, "Glad we're on the same opinion."
"But how could we review right now? Our food's coming soon and-", Leafa wondered.
Yang takes out her phone, "It's alright, we've found it online and have Wi-Fi. Tokyo's internet connection is very efficient and secure here."
"Well, for the sake of entertainment, I don't see why not.", the blonde girlfriend of Sinon replied.
Sinon readied, "What do you say we review this Leprechaun film together?"
"Good luck to ourselves.", Ruby hoped, "I would like that."
Leprechaun
Sinon began, "So it starts off with Warwick Davis as the Leprechaun, looking about as scary as a midget Lady Gaga.", as the film showed the Leprechaun examining his pot of gold in the darkness while a rainbow light shone upon him, warning that whoever stills his gold won't live through the night.
"Seriously, this movie is so unbelievably not scary, that it would make anyone deepen their voice. Deeper and deeper...deeper...and deeperrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... Goddamnit! I'm sick of that!", Ruby lambasted.
Yang continued for Ruby, "Alright, so as the credits roll, we see a guy named Dan O'Grady come home from Ireland to North Dakota. Must have been that...big...Ireland to North Dakota rush. However, he manages to bring a bag of gold with him."
"You know, I'm surprised they're still showing the credits. After that line, I assume everybody will just want their names taken off.", the blue-haired sniper girl gave her opinion on the movie's credits.
Blake summarized, "But faster than you can say 'Begorra', the leprechaun appears out of the suitcase and attacks the old lady.", as the six girls saw the part where the Leprechaun pushes Dan's wife down the cellar stairs in demand to know where his gold was, "Oh, come on, he didn't kill her! She's just a fucking clod!"
"Oh, come on, he didn't kill her! She's just a fucking clod!", Leafa exasperated.
Weiss describes next, "But luckily, Danny boy has Irish kryptonite, or in this case, a four-leaf clover, which we suppose, weakens him.", whilst the movie had Dan shooting the leprechaun but the latter wasn't killed by the bullets and as Dan goes around the large wooden crate when finding the leprechaun, it fades to him picking up the leprechaun and putting him in a wooden crate.
"Well, wait a minute! What did we miss? Bullets can't hurt him, but then he's suddenly passed out? In fact, why is there even an edit there? They just dissolve to the exact same scene.", wondered the leader of team RWBY.
Sinon synopsizes when Dan puts the leprechaun in the crate and a four-leaf clover on the top of it, "So O'Grady nails the little guy in a box, and trust us, that's not as exciting as it sounds, but before he can light the fucker on fire, I guess he has a heart attack or something.", as said part happens as the Leprechaun laughs evilly and a thunderclap is heard.
"But, wait a minute. If that happened to him, whatever happened to the box?", the elder sister of Ruby Rose confused.
The blue-haired sniper girl supposes, "Oh, it's OK. He's being looked after by top men from Raiders of the Lost Ark, pretty much."
"Seems like it. Guess luck has struck back at Dan. Good thing that rhymes.", the Faunus agrees, "Cut to a mere 10 years later as we see one of the main characters played by...Jennifer Aniston? She's in this movie? The girl from Friends?"
The blonde girlfriend of Sinon confirms, "Yep! Jennifer Aniston's old career is like David Schwimmer's current career, though he was in the Madagascar franchise."
"Alright, just keep the Friends jokes to a minimum, despite the fact that my girlfriend mentioned it just now.", self-evidentally proposes the Schnee heiress.
Leafa shrugged and giggles, "We make no promises."
"It turns out Aniston and her father Randy Travis here are staying in North Dakota for a while, and of course, they're staying in the old house where Darby O'Gill's gangbanger is.", Ruby continued the story as they watch a scene with Aniston's character Tory and her father played by J.D. Redding with the latter asking how money is what she'll need to be satisfied with her life, making the red-black-haired huntress, Yang, Blake, Weiss, Sinon and Leafa all point out to the film in unison, "Well, she is Jennifer Aniston."
Sinon then said, "So she runs into one of the housepainters, played by Jim Carrey Bacon here, as he's part of a paint company called Three Guys That Paint."
"You'll never guess what they do.", doubted Yang.
"Paint?"
"No! Make obnoxious comedy relief."
"Please tell us they die."
"We'll pray for us both.", the blonde huntress said after they looked at another scene focusing on the housepainters' comedic moment with a boy in the movie.
Blake abstracted, "So that little twerp, who we swear is the long-haired version of Ness, is named Alex, who you might remember from Mr. Nanny."
"And Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead.", Leafa added.
The black-haired huntress answers, "Heard it, never seen it.", for herself and her teammates.
"Good.", nods the blonde girlfriend of Sinon.
The blue-haired sniper girl added, "And that big tub of idiot who's dressed like a race car bed? He's named Ozzie, played by Mark Holton."
"So we see Jennifer Aniston go downstairs to give Jim Carrey Bacon some juice.", Weiss says when the six see Tory in the film approaching the cellar before a white sheet falls on her in a fake jumpscare, making the white-haired huntress jolt as she embraces Blake, "CAT!"
"DOG!", Leafa yelped, embracing Sinon in fright.
Ruby, Yang, Blake and Sinon include jokingly, "Catdog!", as the six laughed, making Weiss and Leafa smile to this funny joke their friends made.
"So after Aniston heads back up, Ozzie heads back down swearing he heard something. He accidentally knocks the four-leaf clover over, which gives the Leprechaun back his powers.", the leader of team RWBY outlines as they saw the Leprechaun break out of the crate and encounter Ozzie in the film, also eating a bug that landed on the Leprechaun.
Sinon gagged softly and grossed out, "Well, it's about as good as most Irish cooking. Not."
"So Ozzie tells them all about the leprechaun, but of course, nobody believes him.", Ruby's elder sister reviewed while they spectate Ozzie telling the others about the magical rainbow he saw.
The blue-haired sniper presumed, "Yeah, can it make this movie good?"
"No-no-no-no, they said it's a magic rainbow, not a miracle rainbow.", corrected the Faunus girl.
The blonde girlfriend of Leafa resumes, "So they follow the rainbow to where O'Grady hid the gold when Blimp-Ox Ozzie here actually swallows one of the coins. My guess is that he thought there was chocolate inside.", with her, Sinon and team RWBY watching the snippet of Alex considering talking about the board game Operation to Ozzie after he swallowed the coin.
"What is this, Clovers for Algernon? No operation can make you smart! Hell, if it could, the producers of this movie would have gotten it ages ago!", problematically says the Schnee heiress.
Sinon condenses, "Meanwhile, Aniston tries to help paint the house while the leprechaun tries topping off her morning."
"So the leprechaun attacks both Aniston and her father as they try to get them to the hospital.", Ruby said before noticing the pickup truck's driver door sticker had the sign named 3 Guys That Paint, "Hey, is it just us, or do you totally want to see a sitcom called Three Guys That Paint?"
The blue-haired sniper girl imagines, "Yeah, we could actually see that happening, but kind of a long shot."
"As they head to the hospital, the leprechaun finds a mode of transportation to follow them.", Yang described just when the leprechaun in the film goes to a storage house and goes riding on a tricycle, "That's right, folks. This is what's gonna try and scare you throughout the majority of the film. A little guy on a tricycle."
Leafa says, "Hey, it's at least more dignified than to playing an Ewok."
"They take one of the coins to an expert who tells them that the gold is real. He keeps the coin overnight to analyze it some more when he senses something wicked this way comes.", summarizes Blake.
The blonde girlfriend of Sinon asked, "Wicked or Wicket? Just asking if it meant something."
"Does it matter? Sounds like we're referencing that dark Disney movie in the 80's.", references Weiss as she then spectates the excerpt with her friends showing the store owner in the film looking around as spooky music played, "Oh, don't act like you can build the suspense, movie. You're called Leprechaun!"
Sinon reacted when the store owner opens a safe in the same scene as the leprechaun suddenly comes out of it after being kept in shadow and secret prior to the past scenes of the film. "And here, we finally see what this pot of shit looks like."
"Really? That's the scary makeup he's been given? That's not the least bit frightening!", the leader of team RWBY proved her point.
The blue-haired sniper girl agreed with Ruby, "I know! He was more intimidating in that kid's film A Very Unlucky Leprechaun! In fact, he's actually scarier-looking in that film!"
"You're right! He actually looks more scary in the children's film than he does in the horror film!", realized the red-black-haired huntress about Warwick Davis' involvement in both films, before asking Sinon, her girlfriend Leafa, and Ruby's three teammates, "In fact, did we get the right version?", as the six of them shrug in confusion.
The elder sister of Ruby Rose postulates, "So he kills off the store owner by, get a load of this, a fucking pogo stick! Really? That's the leprechaun's weapon of choice? I mean, the 2012 Three Stooges film had a short pogo stick moment, but this could top as the most outrageous pogo stick scene!"
Ruby, Blake, Weiss, Sinon and Leafa couldn't help but hold in their laughter after observing the movie moment before they burst into wholesome laughter, much to Yang's surprise.
"So the leprechaun decides it's time for an upgrade. He goes from a small childish tricycle to a small childish Barbie car. Nothing but the finest for this dignified character!", Leafa said, trying to hold in laughter once again when seeing the leprechaun in the film use a small Barbie car as a vehicle.
Sinon playfully said, "If anything, him driving and using small things makes it over-the-top funnier...", snickering, "...yet, it's one of the only enjoyable parts of the movie, I'm not gonna lie.", as another scene involved a highway patrol officer witnessing the leprechaun driving past him in her small Barbie car when the officer was having a doughnut, "I bet he would've said in his Orson Welles impression, 'This may end up killing me, but I just gotta know.'", whilst the officer pulls the leprechaun over and goes over to talk to him, not believing he was a real leprechaun.
"Next you're gonna tell me, you're gonna end up in space or in the hood!", interrogated the blonde girlfriend of Sinon.
The Faunus girl abstracts, "So the leprechaun attacks the cop as he runs away to try and hide. We don't blame him. We don't think we could face the world knowing we were beaten up by a melting willow.", as the film shows the officer trying to find the leprechaun in the woods before he threw his baton towards the leprechaun.
"Oh, he throws a stick at it?! Is that really what they teach these guys when they come across a supernatural being? Throw a stick at it?!", argues the blue-haired sniper girl, with the leprechaun in the film then landing on the officer's head and grabs hold of it.
The Schnee heiress mimicked, "The officer should've said, 'Please! Don't let me die while I'm next to your crotch!'", as she then remarks when the leprechaun snaps the officer's neck, "He snaps his neck? Really? I dunno why, I guess I thought he would come up with a more imaginative way of killing this guy."
"Well, they had to keep it somewhat realistic.", Leafa told.
Ruby then reviewed, "So he goes back to the house looking for his gold as he comes across a cereal called Lucky Clovers."
"Now, I can't imagine why the real Lucky Charms wouldn't want their bright and colorful image attached to this dark and gory horror film.", Sinon imaginatively thought.
The leader of team RWBY respectfully said, "Thank you for mentioning that."
"No problem.", the blue-haired sniper replies.
The waitress in the Square Enix Cafe then approaches Ruby, Sinon and their friends' table with the food they've ordered, placing their selected items on the table before going off to take care of the other customers in the cafe.
"Oh boy! Our food's here!", Ruby excited.
Yang chuckled, "Here's to our new friends and our wonderful excursion!"
"Cheers.", Blake and Weiss romantically said as they clink their cups of coffee together.
Leafa asked, "Should we-"
"We should.", said Sinon before she and Leafa clink their blue Gloria and green Set beverages together as well; she then asked Ruby, "I think we should pause our review for now and-"
Ruby understood, "EAT!", as she digged in her Foley's Colorful Pancakes vigorously.
"Ruby! Manners!", scolded Weiss as her girlfriend Blake giggled, the two of them grabbing their Dragon Quest Slime meat buns.
Yang shook her head in enjoyment, "You know how my sister is when it comes to food..."
"We see why.", Sinon and Leafa noticed.
The six of them then paused their review for the moment as they have their delicious breakfast together...
To be continued...
