(After 'The Secret in the Siege')
Thank you for reviewing my story. I appreciate it.
I don't own Bones.
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooo
"I know it hasn't been a lot of fun hanging around the house while you're on vacation, Parker." Booth was sitting in the man cave with his son. They were playing a video game and Parker seemed to be enjoying it. "I've talked to my boss and it looks like I can go on vacation for the next two weeks. You, me, Bones and Christine are going to go on vacation, how about that?"
Surprised, Parker stopped playing and turned to face his father. "Really? Where are we going? Can we go to Disney World? We don't have to go to Disney World, but I've never been there and Jimmy Berry has been and he says it's pretty cool."
"Disney World?" Booth hated to disappoint his son, but he'd let Brennan plan their vacation and she didn't like amusement parks very much so he knew that was never a vacation destination she would pick. "Um, well, no, we're not going to Disney World. We're going to Philadelphia. We can see Pops and he can join us when we do stuff around the city. Bones has a list of things she wants us to see . . . like the Liberty Bell, cool stuff like that."
"Liberty Bell?" Parker tried to smile and failed. "Oh good. I've always wanted to see that." Disappointed, he turned back to their game sighed and placed the remote down on the coffee table. "I'm going to go get a drink of water." His vacation wasn't what he had hoped it would be, but he told himself that at least he was with his father. Being in England meant he didn't get to see his father as much as he wanted to and if that meant he had to go to Philadelphia for vacation then he'd try to enjoy it. At least he'd get to see his great-grandfather.
Aware his son was trying to hide his disappointment, Booth watched him climb the stairs and knew he'd have to talk to Brennan. Even if Brennan agreed to change her plans, it might be too late to go to Disney World. He hoped he could at least talk her into considering going to someplace with a beach. He knew his son loved to swim and beach vacations were his favorite.
Ooooooooooooooooo
"Bones, I don't think going to Philadelphia is a good idea." Booth was resting on their bed while Brennan stood in front of their dresser and brushed her hair. "I mentioned that we were planning on going to Philadelphia and Parker didn't seem to be happy about it. He's been to Philadelphia a bunch of times and I think he's getting tired of seeing the same old things on vacation . . . at least with me. His mother takes him skiing in the mountains in the winter and he's been on some cruises, plus since he's been in England, he's got to see a bunch of castles. I can't top those vacations, but I think I can do better than I have been."
Brennan heard Booth out, placed her brush down and sat down on the bed. "Where would he like to go?"
"Well, he mentioned Disney World. I know you're not crazy about the place and we don't have to go there, but I think we need to skip Philly and find somewhere else to go . . . maybe somewhere with a beach. I took him to Virginia Beach a couple of times and he loved it. He loves to swim. I just need to make sure he has a good time when we're on vacation."
Concerned that she hadn't thought her plans through as well as she should have, Brennan knew Booth wanted to make his son happy and that was what she wanted too. She also knew that changing vacation plans might be hard to do on such short notice. "I'm not sure we can get a hotel or motel room at Virginia Beach right now. We're going on vacation in two days. You told me three days ago that Fairburn was letting you go on vacation and I was lucky to find reasonable accommodations in Philadelphia . . . I understand Parker doesn't want to go to Philadelphia, but I don't think we can book a vacation this late at any of the popular venues that have beaches. A lot of hotel rooms in popular tourist destinations book their rooms a year in advance."
"Yeah, I guess you're right." Staring at the ceiling, Booth wondered how he could make his boy happy and make Brennan happy too. "I don't want Parker to be disappointed that's all. I wish we could have planned out this vacation better, but we had that serial killer case and we couldn't just put it on hold while we went on vacation. I'm lucky that Fairburn is letting me off the next two weeks . . . Parker is going back to England at the end of the month, so it's now or never . . . Let me think about it, make some phone calls. I don't want you to worry about this. If we have to we'll go to Philly and Parker will just have to understand that's all. Maybe we can go to the beach next year."
"No matter what we decide to do, I think we should invite Hank to go with us." Brennan knew that Booth's grandfather adored his great-grandson and wanted to see him. "He enjoys Parker's company."
Reaching his hand out, Booth took Brennan's hand in his hand. "That's a good idea, Bones and I'm sorry our vacation is messed up. I want to thank you for working so hard on our case I want you to know I appreciate you and I don't want you to think I'm taking you for granted."
Her heart beating faster, Brennan moved so that she was lying next to her mate. Kissing him, she smiled at the man she loved so much. "I know you don't take me for granted Booth. We both have important jobs and our schedules are often interrupted. You make your phone calls and if you can't find something, we'll go on the vacation I planned. What we can do is ask Parker what he would like to do while he's on vacation. We don't have to adhere to my itinerary. Christine is too young to care. As long as she's fed, comfortable and kept clean she will be happy."
Returning her kiss, Booth knew that he was a lucky man. "We'll work it out, Bones. I promise."

After talking to Hodgins, Booth let Brennan know that Hodgins had offered to let them use his summer house at Martha's Vineyard for their two week vacation.
"Ange and I aren't going on vacation until August, but you can go up there without us. Steve still manages my house, thank God and Ann is still in charge of the kitchen. I'll let them know you're coming. Steve just got married and his wife Faye runs a café on the island. They're both living in her house which is about a mile from my summer house, so you'll have the place all to yourselves at night. Just remember Nancy and Pru come in three times a week to clean the place so no hanky panky when they're there." He laughed knowing Booth didn't appreciate that particular joke.
"I think Parker will like the place. Remember the fun we had there?" Booth really wanted Brennan to like the change in vacation plans. "Parker can play in the water and we can build sandcastles and Christine is older and she'll like to play in the sand too. It will be great."
She'd already heard from Angela about Hodgins offering their summer home and she appreciated her co-worker's generosity. "We can invite Hank to come too. Angela said it's alright."
"Good, Pops will love it." At least Booth hoped so. His grandfather had never been on a lot of vacations away from home and he could be picky about where he went. "I'll call him tonight after we tell Parker about our change of plans."
"An excellent plan." Brennan could see Booth was excited about their trip and that made her happy too. "Do you have time to talk about the Robert Hann case?"
Sitting down on the chair in front of Brennan's desk, Booth nodded his head. "Sure."
"Cam and I have gone over the autopsy reports. We've looked at the coroner's paperwork, the pictures of the crime scene and the pictures of the body and we've come to the conclusion that Robert Hann was probably murdered. Cam called the coroner and though it's been a long time since he's done the autopsy, he remembered the case because Robert Hann was his niece's boyfriend. His niece took Robert's death hard and he'd tried to be careful when he did the autopsy, but there had been a fatal bus accident at the time and he'd been responsible for eight autopsies during that time period. He agreed with Cam that it was possible that Robert Hann might have been murdered. He just didn't have time to prove it and he was getting pressure from his supervisors to get the seven autopsies from the fatal accident done as quickly as possible. He says that he will go over everything again and see where he may have made his mistake . . . I find it refreshing when people are professional and don't make excuses when they make mistakes. He plans to call Cam as soon as he can and let her know what he finds. He says he keeps a personal diary of his work that includes drafts and drawings of the bodies of the victims and the crime scenes. He uses the diary when he's called as a witness during trials."
"Excellent." Booth was encouraged that they might be able to close Robert Hann's case soon. "Maybe we can close the case when we get back from vacation. Lester is going to look into Kyle Ross' disappearance as well as Brendon Riley's while we're gone. Maybe he can find out what happened to them. I'd like to give Karen Ross and her daughter closure. Pat Ross can go to hell." It infuriated him that Pat Ross had killed so many teenagers and had no remorse.
Brennan hoped Lester was successful. "Angela is still trying to identify the rest of the victims. She's determined to find out who they are."
"Good." Booth appreciated Angela's tenacity. All of Pat Ross' murder victims deserved to be named and given a proper burial.
