Assignment #6 Healer studies Task #11: Loser's Lurgy: Write about doubting the truth of something.

Word Count: 457

You didn't believe me,

not at first, not when I confessed

the feelings I'd been holding inside

for far too long.

You didn't believe me,

not when I showed you my mark,

when I told you I'd always known it

was you, that we were matched,

that we were soulmates.

You said a few things I couldn't bear to hear,

said a few things that I could never repeat.

Things were tense, things were strange

between us, for far too long.

I knew you weren't ready to move onward.

I knew you weren't ready to let her go.

She was a ghost, a memory that haunted you

night after night, day after day.

She was the reason you'd shut your heart away.

She was the reason you refused to believe,

refused to believe that you were worthy of love

of affection, of me caring about you.

Shut away, both your heart and your mind,

alone with people you tried to ignore.

If you didn't care about them, didn't care for them,

they could never cause you pain.

A lonely man, a broken man,

that's who you became.

A sour man, a man without friends,

only associates that meant little to you in the end.

I saw through that mask, saw through those lies.

There was a good man trapped in that shell.

A man who wanted love, a man who wanted more,

than to just be a puppet serving two masters.

You didn't believe me when I said I cared.

You pushed me away, pushed and pushed,

but I remained. The marks on our arms matching,

the marks on our souls matching.

There was never a choice in this for me.

I knew from the moment I met you,

that we were destined to be,

that I would be the one to break your shell.

Still alone as the battle raged on,

those you pretended were friends falling

failing to fight the light, the good.

And like that, we won.

There was no more denying the truth.

She was gone, she was a memory,

she wasn't the dream you'd once had.

You'd served her memory well.

Finally able to move on,

finally able to explore

finally able to realize

that maybe, I had been right all along.

A little know it all,

you kept joking, laughing,

something I never thought I'd see,

but you've changed, become you again.

You didn't believe me when

I said we were meant for each other,

you pretended you didn't feel something,

denied it, doubted it.

Now you've stepped from the darkness,

embraced the light,

embraced me and accepted

that maybe, I was right.

Together, we're stronger,

together, we're perfect,

a match so right, there's no

doubt now, as we become one.
