And, Kerry's perspective on how she should navigate the world, with respect to her personal life and working was changing. Well, let's check back in to see where this next step in the journey of this plot line goes.
Happy Reading!
With everyone piled into the SUV; the ride doesn't disappoint. Both Tony and Isaac get to hear all about various instances during both Michelle and Kerry's childhood, involving trips to the rink with friends and family. And it's determined that nobody can add commentary to a story like Valerie and Annette, especially when it comes to breaking down their daughters sometimes mischievous motives as kids.
The hilarious narrations are enough to bring tears to the eyes of both Tony and Isaac, while both Kerry and Michelle are great sports about it. Admittedly, they too know they were real pieces of work as kids, and everything stated was absolutely true.
But, of course, the ragging doesn't go on too long before the dads weighed in to save the day, for their princess'. Something that makes both Michelle and Kerry smile with appreciation, as their fathers' both defend them to the hilt, combating their mothers interaction only makes the car ride more enjoyable, and comical for all parties involved.
The banter calms a bit as they arrive at the rink. Sweetly, Kerry's grin is bigger than the sun as she peers out the window, and claps her hands with glee. Tony sees his wife's response and comments, "I've never seen you so giddy babe."
Earl smiles as he replies, "It's her favorite place on earth, isn't that right baby girl?" Kerry sounds almost childlike, in the cutest way as she responds, "Yes daddy. It's our favorite place. It's the bestest." Everyone in the car chuckles at her reply. Valerie takes in the moment between her husband and daughter. This is in fact one of their favorite places indeed. She recalls in her head when she watched her husband, teach their daughter to ice skate. The patience and love he showed, helping her when she fell. Making sure she was ready to get back up and try it again, makes her heart smile.
Earl sees his wife in thought, and knows her too well. He reaches over to her as she sits shot gun, and takes her hand. She comes back into the moment with a smile. She looks over at her husband and he grins at her as he replies, "I know that grin. Are you ready to make some more memories?" She nods and grins as she squeezes his hand, and says, "Absolutely." Their shared moment is suddenly broken up as they hear everybody exiting the truck.
While everyone prepares to go into the arena, they pause to make plans for the visit. Tony and Kerry and Isaac and Michelle will go skate, while the grand parents agree to mind the babies. Both Kerry and Michelle make sure their little ones are snug in their strollers, before taking off to enjoy the festivities.
During the hustle and bustle of it all; Tony can't help but take in the happiness in his wife's eyes, as well as in her overall demeanor. She clearly is in her element, and he is enjoying her really letting go. While he is happy to see it; he can't help but wonder what has caused such a shift in her lately. He recalls their conversation the other day, but he now feels like there's something more afoot. But, he can't put his finger on it.
Deciding to let it go for now, and not give the impression of something being wrong. He breaks from his thoughts in time to give his shoe size at the skate counter, when asked. Kerry, knowing her man like she does, looks at him and asks, "Are you okay babe?" He smiles in response as he replies, "Yes love. Everything is great. I'm just enjoying seeing you have fun. it's awesome to see."
She appreciates the way he pays attention to her; and impulsively gives him a sweet kiss in response. He accepts the kiss, but is momentarily taken aback by the gesture. She's never kissed him in public before. The move shocks Michelle and Isaac too. As Isaac points to them, as Michelle looks around to see if anybody is watching them. She doesn't see anyone, but wonders what her cousin is thinking with her sudden public expression of affection with Tony.
Her mind is in wonderment, but then she relents as she sees just how in love they clearly are in the moment. Her worry dissipates, as Isaac kisses her atop her head as he holds her from behind, and she looks up at him as they share a sweet kiss, having a moment of their own.
Meanwhile, just as quickly as Kerry pecks Tony's lips, their eyes lock, and he doesn't see an ounce of regret in them, or feel any awkwardness or anxiety between. Which impresses and fascinates him all at the same time. Immediately, he kisses her back, and grabs her close for good measure too. Surprisingly, she doesn't pull away. Instead, she lingers in his arms, and as the kiss breaks says, "I love you."
He caresses her cheek as he replies, "I love you too." With one more peck shared between them, their pulled back into reality by Michelle saying, "Hey there. Remember us? Family skating, hello?" Kerry grins as she replies, "Whatever, I saw yall getting a smooch in or two." Michelle quips, "That's besides the point, we are talking about you two right now. Let's go love birds."
They all share a laugh together as they all head down to the rink, hand in hand. Holding hands together has never felt better in this moment; Tony thinks to himself, whatever has gotten into his wife, he is grateful, and more than ready to embrace the possibility of this being their new normal.
Kerry and Michelle opt to hit the rink right away, while Isaac and Tony find seating and put their skates on. Isaac says, "They're pumped to get out there huh?" Tony nods as he replies, "Yeah, it would appear that way. They both look super excited." Isaac agrees as he responds, "Yeah. To be fair this place is their childhood, so it makes sense." Tony agreeably says, True. It's cool to see them so happy, reliving their childhood to a degree." Isaac finishes tying his skates as he replies, "Yeah it is." As he stands, so does Tony. Who is also ready to go. And Tony says, "Now, let's go show them they're not the only ones who can skate." He grins in response as he replies, "Game on my man. Let's show them how it's done." Tony and Isaac hit the ice with their wives, and it's all fun and laughs from the start.
They laugh and joke, and skate together as couples, drinking hot chocolate and enjoying the ambiance for two and half hours. It's at that point they agree, the chill of the night is testing their will. It's decided they've reached their fill of the cold, but they all need to rest for a moment. So they make their way back to their reserved seats, to relax.
After taking in their 4th or 5th cup of hot chocolate. Michelle and Kerry are removing their skates when Michelle says, "Ker, remember when dad brought us and the Bronson twins here skating in 5th grade?" Kerry shakes her head as she laughs, while she replies, "Oh my goodness. How can I forget? They both lied about being able to skate just to go out with us."
Michelle chuckles as she says, "Girl it was a mess; clearly they didn't think that through before accepting the invitation to go skating." Kerry agrees as she responds, "Exactly. It was worth it though to watch them both falling all night, while we skated by them."
Isaac and Tony are looking at their wives, hearing their conversation and they decide to tease them. As tony says, "Well, I guess you two now know we're not the Bronson twins. Huh?" The ladies both look at him, giving him a knowing look as Isaac backs him up, saying, "He's right. We gave you a run for your money tonight for sure. In more ways than one."
Tony nods as he says, "Well said my man."
The ladies chuckle and roll their eyes playfully as they stand up, and walk over to their husbands'. Both men embrace their wives, and the couples share a sweet kiss or two while drinking more hot chocolate and snuggling. Like on the ice, this moment is full of laughter and love shared between the couples. As they turn the rink into their love den, despite the growing crowd.
Despite their intention of leaving after finishing skating, it's been an hour and a half and they're still at the rink; time really does fly when you're having fun, thinks Kerry. Meanwhile, Tony and Isaac both head to the restroom, as Kerry and Michelle finish gathering their things. And are going to swing by the concession stand to get some hot pretzels with cheese on the way back.
But, that notion ends suddenly, when they hear mumbles in the crowd around the stands, where they are sitting, of people recognizing Kerry. Not counting on this happening, Kerry moves a bit faster to prepare to leave. And, Michelle does the same, as she whispers to Kerry, "I just texted the guys to meet us at the car. So they don't come back down here. Let's go." She nods as she replies, "Good idea. It was fun while it lasted, huh?" She nods as she says, "A blast. Wouldn't trade it for the world cousin. It's been too long." They share a smile as they quickly make their way up the stairs.
When they reach the top of the steps, they both see their husbands' coming to the landing with cups in hand, and snacks. And their parents are walking toward the parking lot with the kids. Tony walks up to them as he asks, "What made you all get packed up?" Kerry replies, "I think the cold has gotten the best of us." Michelle adds, "Yes. And, Kerry is getting recognized down there too. So heading out is best." Isaac responds, "Good idea. I'm surprised they didn't notice Tony yet to be honest."
Tony prepares to say something, when a voice behind them says, "I think that's Tony Goldwyn from Scandal. I just need him to take off that hat, so i can see those curls. Or turn around so i can see his face closer." Another voice quickly responds, "No it's not him. That guy is cuter than Tony." Kerry, Tony, Michelle, and Isaac burst into laughter as they turn to go to the car. Agreeing, it's in fact time to go now for certain, and when they walk by the group of ladies who were talking. Tony smiles at one lady, and says, "Hi."
The flushed look on her face is priceless. Before she can respond they all hustle off to the waiting SUV, with their parents and kids already inside. When they get in, George pulls off as he sees some people walking up to the vehicle. While they manage a clean getaway, the drama is still fun, and makes for a great story to share.
