This was a little difficult in regards to finding personality, since the two barely speak much or interact, but I do have an idea to make this more canon… I hope you enjoy it :)

Prompt:

Splitting up to look for survivors, CFVY took off to the high ground while Velvet and Yatsuhashi were sent to the lower ground of the city.

Remains of the battle looked fresh… but any remaining Grim were swiftly taken care of hours ago.

Velvet walked steadily at the ground, and put a hand over her heart.

"How dreadful…" she looked down a moment in silence for all the suffering she beheld. Even if it was just the aftermath.

Before fully closing her eyes to mourn, she heard a soft cry, and quickly looked around.

"Yatsu!" she cried out, a nickname to say his name faster, as he turned around and narrowed his eyes, before realizing it wasn't a distress signal, and ran to her.

"What's wrong? Velvet?" He quickly took to her side as she rummaged through some debris.

"..Look…" she lifted a beam to reveal a mechanized cylinder around something…

When the beam was lifted, the cylinder opened to reveal a faunus.

Her rabbit ears twitched and she started crying at the ash and grey pieces of debris that she suddenly was bombarded with.

Yatsuhashi stepped back, before looking to Velvet, and Velvet leaned back in pity and looked to Yatsuhashi.

She then, with the grace of a woman, reached for the child. "It's okay. Nothing's going to harm you now-AH!"

She shielded her eyes as a Grim landed from the skies, spreading it's wings out in flaps and then crying out loudly to the three.

"Erk.." Yatsuhashi drew out his sword, and looked over his shoulder, "Get her out of here."

Velvet nodded, scooping the baby up from it's protective craddle and holding it in both hands, though looking like she hasn't had practice with this before.

Maybe instinct?

As she took off running, Yatsuhashi closed his eyes in meditation as he fully faced the Grim, holding both hands to his sword out in front of mim, and gently dipping it down.

He took a few breaths before shooting his eyes open, and throwing the sword back to slam it down. "Now!"

Velvet, still running and not even looking back, heard the call and jumped.

The ground shattered and the Grim fell through the tumbling cracks of earth, before Yatsuhashi jumped up and came down upon it, slashing in midair as it desperately tried to fly off.

Getting some gashes, it was able to still fly upwards, and took a claw to slash into Yatsuhashi.

"Ahh!" he was flung back against a crumbling building, before hearing Velvet cry out again.

She was surrounded by more Grim, being lured by the Baby's emotions and crying.

She narrowed her eyes, glaring in all seriousness. "I made a promise…" she nodded, and took another deep breath.

She held out a hand and pulled the baby close to her, as a weapon materialized.

Jumping rapidly around, she first summoned Ruby's weapon to Slash, Weist's summon as next, but only the arm, and then continued to run as she dodged more quakes from Yatsuhashi.

He had boarded the flying Grim and then slashed it down to land, before jumping with the momentum and causing another earth-shattering effect with his sword colliding to the ruined village.

The grim were finally defeated as Velvet ran into the forest, and Yatsuhashi followed her in, putting his sword behind him and away.

"Is the child alright?" He cried out, as she stopped running to look around behind her, seeing he had protected them and taken care of her pursuers.

She smiled kindly then, and nodded.

When revealing the baby, Yatsuhashi stopped running and sighed in relief, before lifting a hand to gently pet the baby's head.

"Good job, Velvet. You'll make an excellent mother someday." he nodded, giving her the compliment.

She grinned a little more shyly, blushing a bit and nodded again, "Thanks! You'd make an … e-excellent father as well." she returned the favor, as the two smiled friendly to one another before the rest of their team came.

Back on the helicopter, the two had to part with the baby, having seen it smile and laugh just once while in their possession, they still had a great fondness for it.

Velvet stepped up to the helicopter to say her last goodbye, as the solider held the infant.

She gently scratched behind it's ears and lovingly rubbed her thumb against her ears, having the one droop down as the baby slept, even through all the noise.

"Become strong, little one." she stepped away as the solider nodded to her gesture, as if to say he'll do his duty for the sole survivor.

The helicopter flew off, and Velvet held herself a moment, watching it while her team took off.

Yatsuhashi didn't though… as he stepped towards her to the side, and wrapped a single arm around her, pulling her close as she softly let some tears be shed over worry of the poor child's fate.
