"It's good news, Cal. " Connie stood at the end of the bed, flicking through Cal's file. "Your CT scan shows the swelling has gone down. But while, you may not get better, there is rebillhatioin we can offer"

"Which means?" Ethan asked. The medical side of him knows what it means, of course he does, but if he was Cal's doctor, he'd keep him in for a few days.

"He can go home," Connie confirmed.

"But.." Ethan let the word hang in the air as Connie spoke.

"They need the bed, Ethan. " Connie spoke. "With the ED out of action, home's the best place for him. "

Ethan nodded. "Alright. "

"I'll be back with Cal's discharge papers" Connie nodded, before leaving the two to it.

Ethan got to work packing Cal's bag as Connie returned, with a document in her hand. Cal signed his name but because of his dislocated arm, the signiture was squiggly.

Ethan helped Cal in to the car and put his belt on, as he got in to the driver's seat. "You ready?" Ethan asked.

Cal nodded but stared out of the window.

Ethan pulled in to the car parking space, turned off the engine and then helped his brother out of the car. "Careful, Cal. "

Together, the brothers climbed the stairs to reach the front door and Ethan heard Cal's laboured breathing as he battled with each step until they reached the door. Ethan unlocked the door, guiding Cal in, on to the sofa, getting him a blanket and a drink, before sitting down next to him.

"Cal, are you alright?" Ethan asked.

"Let's watch TV" Cal suggested, this shocked Ethan as Cal had been quiet during the jounery home.

Ethan nodded and switched on the TV to medical show "24 hours in A & E"

On - screen: a surgeon is opening up a patients brain on the operating table, using scapels and tweezers, as they try to drain a bleed.

"I can't watch this. " Cal said. Normally, he liked watching medical dramas, but this was too much.

"We can turn it off. " Ethan said as he fumbled for the TV remote. "Why don't we watch something else?"

Ethan flicked through the TV channels and soon found him curling up, next to his brother, stroking his hair.

They decided to watch a film and when the film finished, Ethan walked Cal to his room, making sure that his brother was comfortable in bed, had his glass of water and told him he was next door if he needed ought.

As Ethan looked back, he saw Cal was already asleep, exhausted.

"Love you, Cal. " Ethan whispered, heading to his own room.
