-Chapter 30- Infiltration

Jade arrived with David and Julie at Dr. Merlot's lab, he was waiting there for them as he stepped up looking at David and Julie, they both nodded to him for a sign that Jade could be trusted. That's what Jade thought as she was about to draw her weapon Julie had hers to Jade's back, using her pistol axe and fired a shot of electricity into Jade's back. This had Jade stunned as it also made her semblance buckle from the high voltage. David cuffed Jade and removed her weapon and warned Dr. Merlot that a team of Huntsman were on their way, Jade tried to recover and get up but she was knocked down and as she cried wanting to know why her two oldest friends turned on her all she got was a boot to the face and blacked out instantly.

Austin had expected this, he had secretly planted a recorder on Jade and he and his team could hear them turn on Jade, Daisy was absolute livid. The airships sped to the lab but on the way the other ship was being attacked from the inside, the Silver Eyed Warrior on Salem's side had made his move knocking everyone out, including the pilot which made the airship fall from the sky and blow up as soon as it touched the ground. Austin watched as the airship went down, he took a deep breath able to control himself, he then told the remaining members on his airship that they were to do the other team's job. They nodded, understanding Austin was more than angry. Arriving at the lab, Eada, Daisy, Tiger and Austin jumped out of the airship to be greeted by Julie wielding Jadeite Castitas and David wielding Argenti Lustitia.

Austin turned to Daisy, putting his hand on her shoulder telling them to go in, save Jade and accomplish the mission, he would join them soon when he had dealt with David and Julie. Daisy started to protest but Austin shook his head not having any of it telling her to direct all anger at Dr. Merlot who was the mastermind behind this as he could see David and Julie's expression and knew they were somehow being controlled or perhaps something mechanical. Daisy then told Austin not to take too long and to get revenge for her and not just himself. Austin nodded, David and Julie let them pass as they approached Austin who didn't have a weapon, they attacked simultaneously however Austin dodged each move they made.

With their basic training at Signal and not attending Beacon it gave Austin the upperhand as he blocked the attack from David and managing to twist his weapon out of David's hands, he gripped his old partner like he had always, feeling like he had only used it the previous day and fighting back in the Vytal Festival. Inside Daisy, Tiger and Eada ran in finding Dr. Merlot working away, Jade was strapped to an operating table unconscious, Dr. Merlot was just about to begin but when he saw the 3 girls burst in through his security he dropped the syringe he was going to inject Jade with and left in a hurry. Eada chased after him but before he bailed he told them that the lab was going to self destruct by the preset bomb he had armed and activated hoping to draw their attention to that.

Austin on the other hand was still outside trying to get answers, he had disarmed Julie and held Jade's weapon in his other hand, they wouldn't give any answers and once they knew they weren't going to be victorious they both stood still and a machine inside them began to whirr, Austin heard the ticking sound and pushed them both off the landing platform and sprinted to get inside. The bombs went off just as he reached the door and he managed to get inside, covered in little bits of rubble he got up and dusted himself off. Catching up with Team JDTE he saw what was on hand, Eada had chased after Dr. Merlot, Tiger and Daisy were trying to free Jade from the straps as she was just starting to stir.

Austin helped them free Jade, handing her weapon to Daisy they checked to see if she was alright, dazed and confused as she regained consciousness, he gave Tiger his weapon and picked Jade up as they explained about the bomb and Eada had chased after Dr. Merlot. They followed Daisy's path, Daisy had been smart running with Veritas Cupitor, she had punched holes in the walls with her trident as she chased Dr. Merlot. Austin knew that the airship landing wasn't the only way out of here as Dr. Merlot would need his escape. Catching up they found Eada on the ground panting, she explained how Dr. Merlot activated one of his own bombs and blew the entire room up, she had jumped out the way but there was no sign of Dr. Merlot in the exploded mess.

Eada got up, she explained how she used her Maiden powers to help shield her from the blast, not having time they headed the way they thought Dr. Merlot was headed and that's when they saw another airship on a landing pad out of the hall but just as they were about to leave they turned to see Austin examining the bomb, Jade on his back was staring at it to, as the other 3 girls yelled at them to keep running. The clock was down to five minutes and Austin knew that they would be caught in the blast in the airship or not. He put Jade down and yelled at Tiger to run to the airship and get it ready to take off. He kissed Jade's cheek as she handed her to Daisy and gave Daisy a thoughtful nod.

He turned to Eada as the three knew what he was going to do, Tiger had left knowing it to but she didn't complain, Eada wanted them all to get out, everyone did but it wasn't going to happen. She had just found her brother again and didn't want him taken away. It took about 20 seconds of Austin telling her it was ok and that he loved her, Eada told Austin the same as they shared a hug. Daisy and Jade shared the hug to but Austin pulled away first knowing there was no time, he told Daisy and Eada to grab Jade and help her to the airship while he got the bomb and ran in the opposite direction with it. They did so, they were all crying, Jade screamed to Austin that she loved him and out of nowhere he shouted it back.

It hit Jade then once again he truly did love her and that would be the last thing she would hear him say, Austin had one last look at his family and started running. He had made it to the lab where Jade was on the table. He saw the airship begin to take off and smiled hoping his actions would make them safe, what he didn't know was Eada had gotten Jade to the airship with Daisy and told them she would get Austin. Jade screamed for Eada to come back but it was too late as Eada shut the door telling her friends she loved them as Tiger took off in the airship. Austin was trying to defuse the bomb with a minute and 30 seconds left, if it got to 30 seconds he would toss it into the abyss below. That was the plan until Eada showed up out of nowhere giving Austin a huge hug.

Eada looked at Austin and told him they were never going to make it out with his plan and they both knew there was no way to defuse it, then added with the help of her maiden powers she could help keep the blast contained, Austin knew it was the only way, there was no escape for them, Eada could fly away with him but that still would make their friends be blown to smithereens and Austin couldn't escape without an airship, they knew it was much too late as they opened Eada's scroll and created a quick and short video of themselves. As the clock ticked down they made sure to save and send it before looking at each other with 10 seconds left on the timer, they both said they loved each other and what they were doing was the right thing.

Tiger, Jade and Daisy watched as the lab blow up, debris flying everywhere, a large cloud of smoke amongst the fire fill up where the lab once stood, the explosion made the airship shake with turbulence but the airship remained in the sky as the explosion was contained to the lab. Eada and Austin had succeeded in saving their friend's lives but at the cost of their own. Tiger had put the airship on auto pilot and had tried to contact the other airship that dropped them off when they arrived at the lab but had no luck, she then joined Daisy and Jade holding each other crying once again, this time she knew Austin didn't fake his death and now Eada was among the people in their lives they had lost. She joined the hug as they all cried and held each other.

They then started to head to Beacon after sending Professor Ozpin a message that told him the mission was a success which he then told them to return to Beacon, they didn't mention how she, Daisy and Jade were the only survivors, that would have to happen in person. The trip to Beacon was quiet, the girls were crying and torn. It was Jade who felt a vibration on her scroll, she pulled it out of her pocket to see a message from Eada, she called Daisy and Tiger over, they ran over to see what was so urgent. The friends sat together staring at the notification before they decided to open it, Jade saw it was a video and set it to record as she opened up the message showing the faces of Austin and Eada, they were smiling as they both awkwardly said hi as the video started to play.

They mentioned that it was actually a bit awkward as they had so much they could say but very little time, Eada went first thanking her friends she called her true family for the time they spent together, how she treasured each member of Team JADE and Team TGRN, the fun they had and how they helped her go from a horrible person to a caring one. She also asked if they could break the news to her parents but most importantly the staff that worked for their family and to tell them that she appreciated each individual working there. She also mentioned that she wished her last thoughts would be of them but being committed to Professor Ozpin's cause she apologized having to think of a girl they never met.

Eada seemed sad she couldn't think of them lastly but she was happy with the decision she had made and told them that she would be with her brother, she would say hi to Gretchen, Julie and David for them as she held up plans she had found telling Jade it wasn't truly Julie and David, they had been replaced with a cybernetic copy of them but once again bitter sweet as she apologized fearing that Julie and David were killed. She ended her part on a lighter side thanking them once again and told them she would always love them. Austin went next as he stated how he was in love with Jade, he knew it would be hard to be around but it wasn't the reason he left them once again.

He explained that he owed it to all of them, he wanted to have everyone survive if he could control it but it would be for the best reminding them that he could now reunite with his parents, he knew he had made them proud. Telling Tiger, Daisy and Jade to live their lives to the fullest and to also pass the message to Ray and Nell, then told them that they had a choice to make, he told them that they didn't have to fight anymore, they could walk away if they wanted but that was a decision for themselves to make. The duo on the video looked to the timer and then to each other they both faced the camera one last time telling their friends they loved them as Eada stopped the video with them both smiling at the camera.
