The wall

Benjen Stark pov

Cold winds kept hitting his face as the lift at castle black climbed the wall, while this would have made anyone else uncomfortable and cold the winds were soothing and comforting to him,he is a stark after all we are made for cold

In front of him stood Jon and princess Rhaenys, they were talking as we made our way up the wall,Benjen was still surprised that Jon was able to convince the lords to let the freefolk south of the wall, but somehow against all odds Jon convinced the stubborn lords

This is something that only the white wolf could have done, anyone else would have been labelled as traitor just for even talking about it,but it shouldn't surprise him anymore Jon somehow always made impossible things possible,he has seen Jon hatch dragons,he is sure that those two dragons are huge by now even though he hasn't seen them in years

But while the lords have agreed to the freefolk coming south, they don't even know the real reason why this is happening,Benjen had heard Jon talk about the long night and the white walkers for years but it was something else to actually see them,Jon and the old bear led the king, grand queen, princess and Ned to the ice cells late in to the night after the talk, there they saw three dead men chained to the wall but they still moved, these wights as Jon called them are the soldiers in the army of the dead, being a stark Benjen is very familiar with cold but when he looked at those blue glowing eyes he felt a shiver going down his spine, this is was a different kind of cold that seems to suck the life out of anything it touched

Then Jon explained how the long night is upon us again and how he and Maester Marwyn had found out about the white walkers, everyone was shocked expect the king and princess,Ned had told Benjen multiple times about their good brother's obsession with prophecies, but it seems that their king saw the long night coming long before everyone

They reached the top of the wall before he knew it still thinking about those dead things in the ice cells

"That was really something egg, before even I was not sure about letting these wildlings sorry freefolk south, but in few days not only you convinced the lords but also me,that as you know is not something that happens often"the princess said with cheerful tone

But Jon just shrugged,"lords of the north are like wolves, they might growl and bite each other from time to time but they are still a pack, you just have to show them your are one of them, they are stubborn but not foolish, but this wouldn't work in the south, they are all dogs down there who won't hesitate to eat each other if it meant they could get something out of it"

As they both talked we reached the edge of the wall, two wolf guards were standing guard there but as soon as they saw Jon they nodded and left

Jon looked beyond the wall for a while before turning to him,"Uncle Ben it is time that I return south to the red keep,as uncle Ned will slowly start preparing the north for the long night I need you to help him as the new lord Commander of the wolf guards,I can think of no one better to lead the wolf guards"

Benjen had more of else expected this but when it happened it still shook him,he knows how much of a honour this was,for the past five years Jon poured his blood and sweat to make the wolf guards into the proud and prestigious order it is now,it started as a small order formed of the 3000 from the company of rose to protect the north against bandits, thieves, ironborn and wildlings, etc now it is 10,000 strong order that is respected all across the north

He nodded accepting his nephew's proposal, then Jon took out a vial from his person and handed to Benjen

The vial was filled with red and greenish paste,he looked to Jon looking for answers but his nephew just nodded at him

Benjen slowly opened the vial and drank the paste, for a while nothing happened but suddenly everything was consumed by darkness

He didn't know how long he was out but he slowly regained his senses,Benjen was in a dark cave filled with roots, but everything was different around him,he felt heavy like he was moving through water and at the same time he felt light as a feather flying through air

Slowly he made his way inside the cave as it was the only way he could see,he felt the roots around him move and change as if guiding him to were he needed to go,he doesn't know how long he has been in this cave but somehow he reached it front of throne made of roots,a small child like brown creature was sitting on it,somehow it felt like the creature was one with the throne and the roots around him

Before he realised Jon was standing next to him,"He is styr, one of the children of the forest the current three eyed raven"jon told him

"We are in skagos under a huge Weirdwood tree, children of the forest still live here but I can never be sure how many are still left on this island, sometimes I am sure there are barely ten but sometimes it feels like they are near a hundred, but that's not important, you must have heard about the three eyed raven,Bloodraven was the last one before I killed him,the Weirdwood trees chooses someone to become the raven amongst the children of the forest but the last time they couldn't find one and reluctantly chose bloodraven, bloodraven lived past his natural life leeching off the weirdwood trees to maintain his life all the while trying to extinguish house targaryen but he couldn't do much stuck to the trees, when I killed him the trees choose styr as their new raven, through the trees styr now can see everything from past to present and sometimes even see glimpses of possible future"

This was all a lot to take in but somehow benjen did,"But why are we here?" He asked

Jon nodded,"Even though I trust that the freefolk and the Northerners can make peace but there is too much bad blood between us,it is very hard to trust each other and make peace but very easy to sow discord, that's why I brought you here Uncle Ben,the three eyed raven only watches and doesn't interfere unless absolutely necessary,Styr will keep an eye on both the northerners and the freefolk for anyone who tries to break the peace,as the lord commander you will have to punish these people from both sides and make sure the peace remains, the raven wouldn't have normally helped us but as the white walkers are coming styr is ready to bend the rules for us a little"

It took a while but Benjen understood,as the lord Commander of wolf guards he had to maintain the peace and the this styr will help him with this by showing him the people who deliberately working against that and freefolk who refuse to follow the laws

After understanding this styr came forward with a red weirdwoof leaf in his small hand,he pressed that leaf on Benjen's right hand and the leaf transformed into a red tattoo made of old runes, through this styr can show him what he needs to see

Before he knew it Benjen once again felt the cold winds hitting against him,as he slowly opened his eyes he was back on top of the wall with Jon and Rhaenys
