Short Story 2: The Unresurrected Phoenix.
It is Autumn, and a rare visitor came to my house on a day off.
"H-How do you do."
A pretty little girl, with drill-like curly hair on both sides of her head, came to visit my house.
I was slightly surprised at the arrival of this visitor as I encountered her at the entrance. Rias, who stood beside me, was also surprised, more than I am.
"How do you do, Ravel. Did something happen for you to come to this house?"
"Yes, Rias-sama. I'm very sorry for the sudden visit."
Indeed, the girl who just greeted Rias was Ravel Phoenix, a High-class Devil and a daughter of the House of Phoenix.
I saw her at times when I went to the Underworld, but I never thought that I would meet her in the human world, and especially not at my house.
Judging from Rias' attitude, it appeared that she didn't receive any notification of this visit beforehand. It really was a surprise visit.
Ravel wore a cute-looking one-piece dress. After she shyly fidgeted with her body, she spoke as if she had made up her mind.

When Rias and I heard that, we looked at each other.
This could be a bit complicated.
The scene changes to the living room. It would be weird to talk to her at the entrance; the discussion might become a bit complicated after all.
Akeno gave tea to Ravel.
"About Riser?"
When Rias asks, Ravel nods.
"Yes. I'm sure you have heard that my brother fell into depression after that incident….."
Oh yeah, that incident that happened during the first semester. Rias' former engagement to Riser that escalated to facing him in a Rating Game match. As I was "Takeru Silver", We lost due to Riser cheating. However, upon regained my true identity, I crashed the engagement party and soundly beat Riser up to near death, and the engagement became null, forever.
Apparently… it became a hot topic in the Underworld.
"Riser huh. I have heard stories about him…"
"What kind of person is he?"
Xenovia and Irina haven't seen him since it happened before they showed up.
"Umm, he's from the house of Phoenix and..."
"He's a total scumbag. He treated women like tools.", said Raynare.
"Oh. That's despicable.", said Irina.
"The world of High-class Devils sure is complicated. But I look up to the society of the nobles. …..I wonder if I can find a rich man."
Rossweisse said that.
"…..The little sister came all the way to visit the house belonging to the Gremory…. Maybe they really are having troubles with it." , said Koneko.
Ravel is hiding her usual tsundere attitude towards me. When I first met her, not only was she a tsundere but she was a rich-girl with an uptight attitude. But today she's quiet.
Rias speaks to break this silent atmosphere.
"So Riser….hasn't recovered since then."
Ravel nods at her words. It wouldn't have been unusual for Ravel to say "It's your fault!" in terms of the position we are in, but it doesn't seem like she is going to say that.
Ravel then says, after drinking her tea.
"…..Naturally, it might be wrong for me to come here. But when I asked for opinions in different places, there were suggestions that I should consult with Rias-sama. Even treatments that have been tried, didn't give any results…"
"With me? What do you mean?"
Ravel clearly answers Rias' question.
"To fix my brother's heart…my brother's mentality, I received suggestions that… 'Maybe it's better to learn the thing called 'guts' that the servants of Rias-sama, inspired by Vergil-sama, have?'"

She has so much stress huh.
"….Though, he's still my brother."
So deep in her heart, she's actually very worried about him.

Rias, who is being consulted, must feel quite complicated. The first thing is, she won't be able to decline it and Ravel didn't come to push the responsibility on us; she came, purely because she is worried about her brother.
I don't like to deal with a past problem that has already been solved in my sense…
But I guess…
I can at least… help this honest little girl.
"*Sigh*…Guess it can't be helped… Don't worry, Ravel. I will do something about it."
Ravel, and everyone else, looked at me.
"Vergil, this is my…"
It sounded like Rias was going to say "I will do it", so I stopped her with my hand.
"It's okay. I have a plan."
Yes… I do have a plan.
One that will break Riser apart, and rebuild him.
Whether it's for the better or worse, will depends on that turkey.
When I looked at Ravel, she had a very bright expression, but she coughed after she realised it.
"I-I-It can't be helped then. I don't mind asking Vergil-sama.….I-I will give my thanks in advance."
Yeah yeah whatever.
"I understand. We will start the strategy to make Riser stand up again, by having Vergil act as his therapist."
Hence it was decided, that we will fix that depressed Turkey.
*Later*
Right now, I and the Gremory group + Alex, Irina and the Fallen Angel sisters, are in front of a massive castle. We have arrived at the residence of the Phoenix Clan.
When we transferred to Gremory territory from the human world, we arrived here through a magic circle by doing many 'jumps'.
The house of Phoenix made lots of profit from the healing items "Phoenix Tears". Their castle, which is even bigger than the one of the Gremory, indeed a towering testament of their wealth.
The castle's gate opens while making a heavy sound, and all of us went inside.
After we went past the garden of the castle, we arrived at the residential area where the people from the House of Phoenix live. In front of an intricate looking door Ravel, who is wearing a dress, and several servants were waiting for us.
"How do you do, welcome to the House of Phoenix."
"How do you do, Ravel. If I remember, Riser lives here, right?"
Rias asked her. It appears that Rias came here when she was a child, so she's familiar with the inside of the castle.
"Yes, we can go straight to his room from here."
With Ravel's guidance we proceed inside, passing through the door.
Once again, chandeliers all over the place. The high-class devils must really like chandeliers. There's even statues and paintings everywhere.
"If this isn't Rias-sama. It has been a very long time. And it's been a while since we last met, Sekiryuutei."
A new voice. When I looked, a person I am familiar with was standing in front of some stairs.
It's the woman who has a half mask on her face, Isabella, she's Riser's servant.
"Isabela, It's been a while"
"I have heard many rumors. Even if I fight again seriously, I won't be able to win."
Didn't you also say that last time. You should already know, with your caliber, you can't win.
"My master is over here, please, follow me."
We followed Isabella up the stairs, and progressed through the spacious corridors.
"So what does Riser usually do?"

After a pause… GASHAAAAN! The sound of something being dropped on the floor echoes within his room.

So he wasn't expecting her huh.
"Riser. It's me."
(…..What do you want with me now, Rias? Did you come to laugh at me? Or did you come to tell me about your intimate relationship with the Sekiryuutei?)
A low tone huh…
Well, your whines are worthless.
"…Let's talk for a bit. Let me see your face.", said Rias.
I then heard rough footsteps approaching us and the door was violently opened.
The one who came out was Riser who had messy hair and untidy clothes.
"What do you want to talk about, with the guy who you rejected…..?"
The turkey had glassy eyes and was angry, but his expression changes when he sees me.
"Se-Se-Se-Sekiryuuteeeei… Son o-o-of Sparda…!"
He points at me and shrieks.
"Yo", I said with a low voice as I glared.
"….Hi."
Hii?
"Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!"
Riser screamed and ran into his room.
SLAM.
He slammed the door right in front of us.
(P…Please leeeeeeeave~! I don't want to remember about back then! I don't want it any more! I don't want to experience a shabby feeling like that ever again~!)

Even more pathetic than I thought.
I then saw the twins with the chainsaws try to calm him down by talking close to the door.
"Riser-sama~"
"It's alright~"
"Riser hasn't lost in a proper fight since he was born."
Rias explains. Ravel also nods.
"Yes. It seems like losing so soundly to Vergil-sama, head on, left a deep scar in both his body and soul."
Well, I did beat the little bastard to near death.
"Vergil-san, It's already scary enough with you being a legendary Dragon. Knowing you, the Son of Sparda who even killed gods, one can only shiver facing you"
You can't really say the same to the Top 10 though.
"Onii-sama. Since Rias-sama and her group came all the way here, please go out!", said Ravel as she tried to convince Riser to leave his room.
(G..Go home! Please go hooooooome~!)
Riser screamed like a girl.
"Ok then, in this case, plan B"
"Plan B?", said Rias.
"All of you, step back, this is going to get ugly"
The others but Alex were confused. Ravel, who seems to be quick at realizing, said.
"Please, Vergil-sama. Can we take an approach that is less… violent?"
The little girl plead me.
Sorry kid, but that won't do.
"Ravel, that Turkey just slams the door in front of us, who are the guests. His diplomatic rights are already out of the window."
"…"
Ravel makes a complicated expression as she couldn't talk back. Nevertheless, she moved out of my way.
Good girl.
I then walk towards the door. As I was right in front of it…
DOOON!
I delivered a Spartan kick and fling the massive door all the way to the opposite wall of the room. The door dug itself into the wall. Quite ironically, Riser's bed is right beneath it.
"Hiiiiiiiiiiiiii!", the Turkey shrieked once again.
I noticed that the other had their jaw dropped.
Come on.
You all have been with me long enough to know that this is normal.
Well, whatever.
I then quickly make my way to Riser, who is shaking beneath his blanket.
"Get your ass over here, you little brat", I said with a cold voice.
As I tore the blacket off…
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Riser screamed.
Like a girl.
"Shut up", I said as I grabbed Riser by the neck, then…
DOON!
A crisp punch to the face. Riser was knocked out cold.
I then drag Riser out of his room by the collar, and into the garden of the castle.
"You know, you don't really need to hit him that hard", said Alex
By the way, Alex is going with me on this trip. I asked for his assistance, since it's better to keep an eye on Riser with 2 people.
Especially with Alex being an Angel, then all the better.
"So what kind of plan is it, Vergil?"
To Rias' question, I pointed at the sky.
"He will be here soon."
When I called him before, he said he will be here immediately.
-Then a big shadow comes flying from far away.
"Here he is."
There is a giant shadow above us.
ZUUUUUUUUUUUN!
The giant Dragon landed in the garden while causing the ground to shake violently.
"It hasn't been that long since we last met, all of you."
The giant Dragon is…the former Dragon-King, Tannin.
"Shishou, thanks for coming."
I gave my thanks, and Riser screams.
"Ta, Ta, Ta, T-T-T-T-T-T-T-Tannin! Ultimate-class Devil… L-legendary Dragon!"
So he can't even see a Dragon, huh? Pathetic, again.
Shishou's giant eyes grasps sight of Riser.
"Riser Phoenix, huh. I've seen a couple of your Rating Game matches. I had my attention on you as a potential [King] in future games, but… Judging from how you are right now, it seems like you have some problems."
I gave a simple explanation. Even Shishou just said "Pathetic".
"We need to get him some "Guts". I think that our regiment that we had before will do", I said.
Tannin-shishou made a big smile at my words.
"I see, guts huh. That sounds good. Are you saying you want to go to the mountains then?"
"Yeah, I think that would be good. I have already packed our stuff."
"You are well prepared."
"Rather, this is the only thing that came to mind. So that's how it is Rias. I'm taking this Turkey with me, and I'm going to the mountains with Shishou to train."
Yup, this is the plan. We're going to break him apart, using his very fear. The training is just for the extra spice.

If you look from the sides, he looks like a bird that is about to be eaten by a Dragon. Which is in a sense… quite entertaining to see.

Alex and I leaped onto Shishou's back, we then gave our temporary goodbyes to the others.
"Vergil, can I really leave this to you?", asked Rias.
"Don't worry. If he dies, we'll call", I said as she sweatdropped a bit.
"Please don't push yourself!", said Asia.

"I will also go with you!"
Just as I was saying farewell, Ravel steps forward and declares with determination that she wants to go too.
"This isn't a picnic you know?", I said.
"My brother….I want to fix him together with you!"

She has determined eyes.
"She has good eyes. Vergil, it won't be a problem if you protect her."
Shishou said with a lively smile.
Indeed, those are excellent eyes.

Fine, she convinced me.
"Then come on."
I extended my hand.
Ravel's response to my words is lively and said "Yes!". She then used her demonic-powers to change her clothes into something like an adventurer. She then grabbed my hand and climbed on Shishou.
"Vergil, take care of Ravel as well."
"I will"
On the other hand...
"N..No! Why do I have to go to the mountain!?"
Riser was going crazy on Shishou's hand. ...For you to show something pathetic when Ravel showed courage...

"Where are we going?"

"No kidding, these natural landscapes are hard to find these days", said Alex as he was captured by the beauty of the scenery.
Not just the nature, tons of Dragons of all kind appeared in front of us.
The place that Tannin-shishou took me, Ravel, and Riser was his territory. There were big holes on various parts of the cliffs of a canyon, and there were Dragons which exceeded 10 meters popping their heads out of them. Many Dragons were spreading their wings and flying within the valley. It appears many Dragons are living within this valley.
Riser, Ravel, and I were dropped on a section of cliff, where it was just possible for a person to stand.
The spacious canyon is right in front of my eyes. An excellent place to train flight maneuvers.
The Dragons look at us from their nest holes as if they find us rare. I did hear that Dragons also live in the Underworld, but it's my first time seeing their habitat.
"This is the nest of the Dragons, where my people live. This area is only a section of our habitat, but you can say this is the borderline, that humanoid Devils like you guys will just be able to survive. Also these Dragon tribes are the ones which are able to communicate with others."
Shishou explains.
"D-D-Dragons…"
Riser, who is next to me, has a blue face after seeing the herd of Dragons in front of him.
"Tannin-sama."
Along with the voice I never heard before, two Dragons appear in front of us.
"Did you summon us?"
A blue-scaled Dragon, and light blue-scaled Dragon appear in front of us.
"Yes. Vergil Sparda, these two are High-level Dragons that serve under me. I'm thinking of leaving Riser Phoenix to these two."
Saying that, Shishou explains the situation to the two Dragons.
"Roger that."
"It's seriously okay~."
Both of them replied immediately. It seems like the blue-scaled Dragon replied quite light heartedly though…
"Riser Phoenix."
The old man said a single sentence after calling Riser.
"We are going to train both your body and soul near this Dragon canyon!"
"…Uuu, how can this happen…."
Riser shook his head while covering his face with both his hands.
"Vergil Sparda, Alex Nash. You two should train as well", said Shishou.
"Well, that's also what we're here for.", I said as I changed my clothes to mountain gears.
"In that case, let's have a race, shall we, Vergil?", Alex proposed.

On a snowy part of the mountain, Turkey-kun was being chased by a Dragon. The light blue Dragon was breathing out ice from its mouth, as it was chasing Riser who had also changed into mountain gear.
"Dammit!"
"Riser-dono! The shout you have to say during this training is [Dragon]! Repeat after me, Dragon!"
"D-Dragon!"
Alex and I were running on the snowy mountain a bit away from him at the back. The place we were running around isn't piled up with snow. It's daytime so it isn't snowing violently.
"On your left", I said as I passed Alex.
"Oh come on! That's the 5th time already!", he complained.
Yes, I have lapped Alex on our little contest for the 5th time already. It's my absolute victory.
The light-blue Dragon is a High-level species called the "Blizzard Dragon".
It looks like a tragedy from back here. After all, he only looks like an adventurer who is being chased by a large Dragon in the mountains.
"Onii-sama! How can you make a fuss with something like this!?"
Ravel, on top of the light-blue Dragon, was trying to put some spirit into Riser from up high.
The training started by doing some running first.
I have no problem running on snow, but Alex did have a little difficulty before he got used to it.
Above me is the blue-scaled Dragon. he has a giant touch screen monitor and he's singing with his nose. I do find it odd that on seeing a big Dragon with a modern device.
While I was thinking such a thing, the blue Dragon above me spoke.
"Sekiryuutei-dono, how is the rich boy from the House of Phoenix doing?"
"Nowhere, he's still a wimp so far"
"But it sure is crazy~. He really is weak. I thought rich boys who are High-class Devils were a bit more elegant, but they seem to be much weaker than I thought. It's quite crazy."
This guy sure speaks in a light manner. He seems to be an ace of the race of "Sprite Dragons", the same species as Ragil, Asia's current familiar. Will that little dragon grow up to be this flashy? One can't tell.
An hour later, we took a break and have our drink. Next to us, Riser was on the ground breathing heavily.
"….I'm going to die…"
His voice was weak.
"Oh please, you haven't even been running for that long.", I said.
Turkey-kun then replies with an unpleasant voice.
"S-Shut up! Doing training by living in the mountains is something barbarians do! That's why reincarnated Devils know nothing!"
"What are you saying? Even Devils can become stronger by training, so there is no loss by doing this you know?", said Alex.
"I'm a pure High-class Devil you know? High-class Devils have to live like a noble, by taking importance in our blood and our talent! My house is so great that I can take someone from the house of Gremory, who produced a Maou, as my fiancé! For me to do something so filthy like this….!"
GRAB.
I immediately grabbed Riser by the mouth.
"Then shall we go at it again? I can rip your apart piece by piece all day long, and bath this whole area with blood", I said coldly as I glared at the little turkey.
He shakes his head sideways furiously.
I then let go of him.
"You really don't have to go that far"
"I'll go as far as I need to be. I don't tolerate incompetence.", I replied to Alex's comment.
Having strength, yet not even use it properly. Intolerable.
Thus, the training in the mountains started.
…..Looks like there is lots of trouble waiting ahead.
*3 days later*
On our third day of being in the mountains, Ravel appeared with a basket of food.
"H-Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!"
Far away, Riser was screaming while running on the snowy mountains being chased by a Dragon.
Alex is having a call from Michael, so he is back at Heaven for the moment.
Ravel and I sat on a rock, jutting out of the snow and we started taking a break.
"…..How is my brother doing?"
Ravel asks me worriedly.
"He's complaining a lot, but at least he's doing his regiment. The reason why he couldn't stand up on his own two feet is because he's too spoiled."
"I see….. I'm a bit relieved."
Hearing that, Ravel's expression softened.
"This pancake sure is good."
I gave my feedback on the pancake I took out of the basket.
"R-Really…? I received ingredients from the Dragon-san around here, and there were ingredients that I didn't have….. So I couldn't bake it to my satisfaction….."
"To make such a good cake despite the unfavorable given circumstances is already a sign of a competent individual. I have to say, you are more competent than your brother over there", I gave an honest compliment.

I was trying to sleep in our cave that we're using. Alex just returned earlier and also having a hard time going to sleep.
"Alex, what did Michael call you for."
"Oh, just a few special angel powers training I have to take, that's all"
Hmm, so he's getting stronger. Fascinating.
I glanced in Riser's direction. I don't know why, but he's quiet.…This is strange.
"Vergil… is Riser a bit too quiet?", asked Alex.
Indeed, since we came here, he's been complaining and saying things like "How can a noble sleep in a cave!" and "Sleeping in a sleeping bag is the worst!", but tonight he's quiet.
I got out of my sleeping bag and checked on Riser.

"Woah! Vergil, calm down, you going to bring the whole mountain down", said Alex.
"Come on!"
I then entered Super Balance Breaker as Alex spreads his wings on the spot. We violently flew out of the cave.
As I spread my Dragon wings and ignited my boosters, we chased after that idiot.
That little…! Where did he go!? I already know the basic location of the hot springs so I tried looking around there. As I turn on my "Eidos Senses"…
I detected a presense nearby, as Alex and I went to check…
-Wings of fire! Riser is flying!
We approached the turkey immediately! He turns around as if he noticed us.
"Chi! So I was caught!"
"So you did plan on that! I'll show you no mercy!", I said loudly.
"What's wrong with me taking peek!? If there are women going into hot springs, then it's a man's duty to peek!"
"You insolent brat! Even your little sister is there!", said Alex.
He then fired a sphere of light. But Riser evaded it.
"Are you trying to kill me!? I just want to see Rias' breasts! It's not forgivable that you are the only one who can enjoy it!", shouted Riser.
Oh you're so dead! He fired some flames at me, but I dodged them.
I then fire my "Extinction Vision".
PIIIIIIIII!
DOON!
It grazed Riser, and destroyed the land below.
"Laser eyes!? What the hell are you!?"
"The one who will rip you to pieces!", I shouted.
We continued to exchange attacks, with the missed ones end up hitting the mountain and made the snow fall along with an explosive sound.
"You're not touching them!"
"I'm her former fiancé! Do you think I can give up without seeing those huge oppai even once!? Stand in my position and think!"
They said that he doesn't have any guts, but he does! That disgusting "Perverted guts"!
"And I also want to see the breasts of the Priestess of Thunder! They're also big, right!?"
""Shut up!""
Both Alex and I shouted.
GOOOOOOOOOON! DOOOOON! DODOOOOOOOOON!
Like that our dog fight begins.
