Genderbender AU. In a world where Roman women fight alongside their men, after all an Empire that uses only half its resources conquers half as much, (see inside for logic), Marcia Flavia Aquilia finds she has met her match in her new male British slave, Esca. After all opposites attract, and in the end they are not so different as they might think.

Marcus, born in a mafia family, has gotten shot by a cop. He's back in Italy to recover. His uncle has brought him a slave, from England. Marcus' father has disappeared years ago there. But because of Marcus injuries, he can't regain his honor easily. So he must set out for England to find what has happened to his father and where the the symbol of the family, a golden eagle, is.

Who was Esca before he met Marcus? The story of Esca starting from the Brigantes conflict with Rome, through his capture and enslavement, till he meets the Roman who would save his life and return what Rome stole from him: freedom. This is an attempt to flesh out Esca more and give us/me the context of conflict and friendship that occurs when he meets Marcus. Comments welcome.

Esca's aggressive personality is an unfortunate side-effect of his past, using his anger as a survival mechanism; Marcus knows he wasn't always this way and is curious about the Briton's experiences of Romans. WARNING: Rape/Non-con references.

How Esca really won his freedom. Involves the sexual motivations of the three main characters: Esca, Marcus and Tribune Servius Placidus. Mix of film and book universe. Please note: while language is not explicit, this story features violence and attempted non-consent.

Esca is an archer. Marcus is used to fighting only with a sword and a shield, so Esca takes it upon himself to teach Marcus the way of the bow. Marcus/Esca established relationship.

Ondine fusion- Marcus is content to whittle what's left of his life away as a quiet, unassuming fisherman, until the day he catches Esca in his nets.

Prompt from The Eagle Kink : Esca as a slave was pretty dark and intimidating at first, emotionally detached. I'd love to read a story about him finding a baby animal in a storm and hiding it in the stables not telling any of his masters. I want Marcus finding out and being shocked seeing scary Esca's softer side, being all careful and gentle, risking punishment to help the animal.

It is not that Cunomor, Prince of the Seal People, wants to kill his only son: it is that he can see no other way. Warning: This story is not more graphically violent than the movie, but it is entirely about a father murdering his child, so I erred on the side of a higher rating.

Esca isn't doing a very good job of ignoring the annoyingly good looking American customer who seems intent on getting his attention.
