As she clears out the last of the Hiss from the Bureau, Director Jesse Faden is affected by an unknown Altered Item that disrupts the OceanView Motel and Casino and opens a door to a section of the Astral Plane not before explored. Stranded on an alternate Earth, Jesse must find a way to fit in with this strange world on the brink of collapse.

Jesse Faden got used to her new job as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Control and now heads the experiment on contacting the other worlds through anomaly typewriters. It leads her to the missing writer Alan Wake, who asks her to help him getting out from the Dark Place he is stuck in. Jesse agrees, unaware that her decision will change both of their lifes forever.

Worlds have been connected, thanks to the Oldest House. But now, an uncontrollable source of evil is spreading and taking over these worlds. With the support of the FBC, a former Marine, two communists and a group of Nazarick natives will work together in teeth-clenched teamwork to stop the viral force only known as the Hiss.
