Athelstan engages in a penitential fast

The following story if mostly about Ivar as in the TV Show of Vikings, plus a little bit of my imagination. Hope you enjoy, and I'll be glad to explain if something is not clear.

Modern AU. Athelstan is a graduate student who's volunteered to run the donation table at the local mall for his church's annual toy drive. He just wants to support a good cause and spread some Christmas cheer. Floki sees a new plaything who's trapped behind a table and can't run away.

Athelstan has a crisis of faith. From his captivity in Wessex to his return to Kattegat and his visions of Christ, he is torn between fear of a vengeful God and a desperate desire for Salvation. Follow Athelstan as he works to understand and accept his faith and what it means to him. Interspersed with text from Dies Irae

Jesus Christ spoke seven times upon the cross. During his own crucifixion, Athelstan recalls them all, but as much as he tries to focus his mind on Christ, he finds his thoughts are all of Ragnar.

Now that they've returned from Wessex, Ragnar notices a change in his priest. He tries to help, but empathy has never come easily. Athelstan talks about the crucifixion for the first time.

"He sees his master's fingers twitching. He wants to strike again, but for now he restrains himself. It's a small thing, but it gives Athelstan hope. God help him, he cares for this man, despite knowing he ought not to. Perhaps Ragnar may yet prove him wrong and show the monk that there is something in him that can still be redeemed." Set during Season 1 Episode 6

"For all the patience the Lord has granted him throughout this ordeal, his soul has not been fully cleansed and there is still something festering within. It hides behind his meek obedience and shy smiles, but it's there all the same." Set during Season 1, Episode 4. Athelstan struggles with himself and his faith as he comes to terms with his new life among the heathens.

"Sometimes she thinks he tries to smile. There's a little crinkle in the corners of his eyes, but his mouth remains still. Whatever light remains in him isn't strong enough to cut through the shadows within." Athelstan struggles to come to terms with what happened at Uppsala. Now that the gods have spared him, Gyda doesn't want to lose her priest.

"Suddenly Eden is gone and the priest finds himself standing in a very different garden. He sinks to his knees, overwhelmed by the weight of what is to come." Set during Sacrifice. Athelstan struggles with himself and his new life while at Uppsala.

Ragnar is intrigued by his priest. When Athelstan asks about his status in Ragnar's household, he takes a moment to see whether the priest is, in fact, so meek as he likes pretends to be. One shot set during Season 1, Episode 5.

Ragnar has a dream. But was it really a dream?

An alternative relationship between King Alfred and princess Gisla of France. Alfred suggests that if Gisla wants to be adopted by him, she should prove her submission by kissing Aethelstan. She refuses and Alfred spanks her.

Starts at season 6. Ivar the Boneless thought he sees princess Katia as Freydis. He also, see Princess Olga his friend two he had loved, betrayed, and lost. Princess Olga will never be anyone pawn of man's games. She will fight for her brother Igor as the rightful heir to their dynasty. Yet she cannot resist the longing look of Ivar that seen her as nothing but a lovely mirror.
