~ Prologue ~

Leopard woke up with a start. Where was she? Where were Sprout and Clearsight? She felt as if she'd been asleep for a thousand years. Three moons, why did everything hurt so much? Every toe and talon ached. From the looks of it, she was in a deep cave somewhere, maybe somewhere under Pantala? All she knew for sure was that it was very dark and musty, wherever she was. Leopard caught a whiff of salty air. Must be somewhere by the sea. Where in Pyrrhia am I? Pyrrhia, her old home. The place she fled with Clearsight on some crazy mission to save dragons across the sea. The continent where her brother, Darkstalker, now lay asleep forever.

Darkstalker had muttered something before he fell into his endless sleep, a final spell. Leopard tried to remember what it was. Suddenly it felt as though a mountain had collapsed on her. Darkstalkers last curse, "One year from today you will join me and turn to stone forever." She would be stuck in endless dreams for the rest of time. Or at least she thought.

Again she searched her memories for answers, How am I awake? Then realization hit her. If I'm awake, then Darkstalker must be too.

~ Chapter 1 ~

Honeycomb hated the webs. They always felt like a problem waiting to happen. Yet they were home. It had been seven years since the Plague of The Breath of Evil. Since a giant plant took over half the dragons on the continent and made them do its bidding. If you think about it, it sounded kind of ridiculous. Honeycomb lingered in her thoughts for a bit, but eventually got out of her hammock, and walked over to her mother, Faefly, and greeted her.

"Good morning little bug, how did you sleep?" Mother asked tiredly, her dark green scales were shimmering in the sunlight, her wings outstretched as far as they could go. Honeycomb admired her mother's wings, they were a beautiful white with blue spots all over. The dragonet wished she had wings, then she could soar through the skies and wouldn't have to walk everywhere. Her mother looked nothing like her, Honeycomb's scales being an iridescent honey-like color. Sometimes Honeycomb wondered how they were related. She didn't look like her father either. He wasn't around very often. Being a busy SilkWing he never had time for his weird-looking daughter.

"I slept great, thanks for asking." She said in a warm tone. She wasn't really in the mood to talk right now. She made her way up the webs to get to school, she was really hoping to go to the library later. Honeycomb loved books. She loved the answers they gave her and the stories they told. She didn't have to worry about her own world when she could be in a different one. That's what books offered her. Or maybe I just want to go to the library to see a special someone. Half the reason why she even bothered going to the Library was to see Swallowtail. He had gotten a job there after his metamorphosis and was always busy nowadays.

When Honeycomb got to school she waited outside like every other dragonet in the area. She looked around and felt a bit of happiness for once. I wonder what it was like all those years ago when the HiveWings and SilkWings went to school separately. She knew that it was only nine years ago that this had been. When she hatched there were still many problems, inequalities, and all sorts of things. But now even though it wasn't perfect, it was better. She could look around and see HiveWing students chattering with some of the SilkWing students. They were allowed to go to school together now, as equals. Or at least mostly.

Honeycomb generally wasn't the kind of dragon that hated other dragons, but there were two. There were these HiveWing siblings, Hornet and Scorpion. They were the biggest, meanest HiveWings in the school. Their parents were wealthy HiveWings who hated all other tribes. They thought a lot like the ex-queen Wasp and were known to have a hatred for SilkWings. Hornet and Scorpion were not much different. They always picked on her more than other dragons because she was a hybrid. Well, at least that's what everyone said.

Honeycomb was a dark orange and yellow color with small black spots along her back, some looked like leaves, while others looked more like tiny splatters of ink or paint. She also had bright blue and purple speckles on her face, and antennae with elegant long horns like a SilkWing, along with wing buds where her wings would be one day.

She scanned the area around her to make sure that neither of the twins were around. Phew, safe for now. I wonder where Termite and Carpenter are, they're usually here by now. It was not long before the bell rang and she started her first class, history. She had always liked history, she liked learning about the past and what had happened so long ago. Today they were learning about Clearsight and Leopard, the very first Phyriahnian dragons to cross the ocean to Pantala.

"Alright class, everyone turn to page 392 in your book please." Today an almost completely black Hivewing named Bumblebee was teaching instead of her regular teacher, Satin. I wonder where Satin is, she usually never gets sick. Maybe she's taking a day off. But who is this, they don't look much older than me.

"You. SilkWing. With the black spots, please turn to page 392." Honeycomb was so caught up in her own thoughts that she forgot to open her book.

"Sorry, ma'am." She said quietly, she always hated being called out in class because of all the attention it brought to her, and from the fact that it just made her feel stupid.

As the lesson went on, Honeycomb kept getting distracted. She could hear something outside the classroom, and occasionally see flashes of black and white scales in the hall. Probably just my imagination, I bet it's just a HiveWing student who was called home early or something.
