It was night time in japan.

A lone boy exited a convenience store with some snacks. His mean looking eyes were dull and tired. As he came out of the shop and stopped near the road, a car passed by him. As it did so, the area around him distorted for a bit before returning to normal.

"What was that? ...I guess I must be tired." I've pulled three consecutive all-nighters, of course my eyes are tired.

(It seems our hero is a shut-in. Still, three consecutive all-nighters? Must be a hardcore gamer."

As he started walking, it happened once more. The space around him distorted, but this time instead of turning back to normal it warped all together.

The boy didn't notice at all though. After all, it all happened in the blink of an eye. The moment he closed his eyes to blink, and when he reopened them, the scenery has changed. First of all, it wasn't night. The sun was up in all its glory.

The sudden change in light blinded the boy for a second. He rubbed his eyes, trying to get them used to the sudden light.

"Where…am I?" The boy muttered as he looked around. He no longer stood in front of the store. Heck, it wasn't even japan.

Looking around him, he saw people with animal characteristics and dragon-like creatures pulling the carriages around. Medieval age buildings. Noticing such major changes, he reached a conclusion.

"It too real to be dream, so does this mean…"

"I've…been summoned to another world?!" He couldn't help but shout in surprise, causing the others around him to give him weird looks. Shine seemed to return to his former dull eyes.

He started walking in a random direction.

(He himself didn't know what direction he went, so don't expect me to mention.)

"I'm guessing it's similar to those summoned-to-another-world situations from light novels and anime…a world with demi-humans and such fantasy stuffs. I guess it safe to assume those."

"But then…how did I get here?"

Before he could ponder over it though, he heard a commotion. When he looked towards the source, he found a little girl who has fallen on the ground while a carriage was running towards her.

Crap, at this rate it will run over her!

Without thinking, he sprinted towards the girl but given distance between them, it was obvious to all that he wouldn't make it in time.

"Look out!" Someone shouted as a man clad in armour jumped in and, catching the girl in his arms, jumped to the side and managed to save the day.

"Way to go!" "Good job." Everyone cheered for him.

The boy had come to a halt when he saw the man jump in, but he wasn't cheering him on. He just sighed in relief and started walking again.

(He seems pretty nice.)

"That would have been the perfect chance to show whatever power I have been given as a gift. But I still don't know what it is, so I guess it can't be helped." He consoled himself with those words as he couldn't save the girl.

(I take it back, he's too full of himself. I guess he needs someone strong to knock him down a peg or two.)

Walking, he reached an area which seemed to be a market of sort, judging by the several shops around him. He stopped in front of a fruit shop, looking at the board where the prices were probably written.

I can't read them.

"Nii-chan, do you want them?"

"What are those?"

When the shopkeeper asked him, he inquired about the red fruits on display.

"Those are Apples."

(Don't fret over the names not being from Lugunica. Real men…and women don't mind such details. But for those over-serious type…)

When the shopkeeper asked him, he inquired about the red fruits on display. Though quite clearly they were apples.

"Those are Appas."

(There. All happy now?)

Reaching into his pocket, he took out his wallet and showed the coins inside to the shopkeeper.

"Heh? What kind of money is that? You can't use that here."

He then shouted. "That means you're totally broke! Get outta here! You're interfering with my business!"

He pushed the boy away from the front of his shop. Looking down, the boy walked away.

"There's no other choice…I will have to gather some information first."

He then went to several buildings. He had several mishaps. First walking into a female bathroom and getting slapped, then into an inn for demihumans only and getting thrown out.

"Man, can anyone be a little nice to me." He complained as he started walking again, massaging his cheeks which still hurt.

"Meow."

While roaming around, he heard a cute voice from an alley. Looking up, he found a little white kitten looking at him. She was very thin and dirty and seemed very weak.

"Hey there cutie. Where's your mommy?" He approached the kitten while looking around.

She's as white as snow…

The kitten didn't try to run away, even when he reached out his hand.

At least there's someone willing to be nice.

(Ah! I don't know why but it brings tears to my eyes!)

Picking up the kitten, he walked inside the alley to look for her mother. Even after a few minutes of searching, he didn't see a cat, let alone the mother.

"Could she be an orphan? Judging by her looks, she must be a stray. I guess no will complain if I adopted her."

Sitting down on the stairs inside the alley, he opened one of the snacks that he had brought back in japan, the kitten in his lap. He seemed very comfortable, and she was oh so soft and cute, he didn't even think about putting her down, even if she was a little dirty.

Eating the snacks, he also fed the kitten.

"Since I have took you in, I guess I should give you a name…let's see…I know. Yuki, that's what I will call you now."

He pats the back of the white kitten as he christened her.

(Man, he named her Yuki just because she was white in colour? Wonder if she's really just a cat.)

I don't want to separate her from her mother...but I can't just leave her be.

"I take her with me for now. If her mother is around, she will definitely come." With that, he got up and walked out of the alley with Yuki in his hands.

No sooner he got out, he bumped into someone. It was a man in fancy clothes and has hair and pupil. His clothes and the aura and gallantry and intimidating aura he had, it indicated that he wasn't your everyday boy. His sparkling blue eyes reflected confidence.

"Oh, sorry sir. I didn't notice you." The boy apologized as he bowed to the other party.

"No, please do not let it bother you. It's fine." The red haired boy replied as he observed the boy.

"You don't seem to be someone from Lugunica, are you a foreigner?" he questioned.

Lugunica? Is that the name of this place? The boy thought.

"Ah! No. You see, I'm not from here. I came from another country." Came his answer a few seconds later.

That's not technically wrong. I'm from another country, which is in another world.

"A traveller?"

"Y-yes, something like that. I came here with something like a one-way ticket, maybe. I just arrived today."

"I see. If you want, I can help you. I am off-duty today. If haven't yet decided for a place to stay, then I can even take you in as a guest at my home until you acquire some means to support yourself." He offered with a smile.

Ooh! What a luck, meeting such a nice guy right off the bats, but should I really accept? ...I do not have any other choice. And in my current situation, I cannot afford to refuse his offer. I just hope that his kindness is not just a show…I don't even know his name.

(It seems that our hero doesn't have much in the name of pride.)

"The thing is, I'm flat broke. The only family I have here is her, and I just got her." He said as he mentioned Yuki, whom he was carrying in his hands.

"That's a cute family member you have there." The red haired boy said as he laughed a little. The boy also laughed with him.

"Anyway, I don't think I should accept your offer. We just met, mister...um..."

"Oh, sorry about the late introduction. My name is Reinhard Van Astrea. I am a royal knight of the kingdom of Lugunica."

"Right. Reinhard-san. My name is Natsuki Subaru, oh and Subaru is my given name."

"There's no need to be so formal with me, Subaru. You can just call me Reinhard."

Whoa, he closed our distance like it was nothing.

"Subaru, you can stay at my home. It won't be a problem. You also mentioned that you are broke, I would be happy if I could be of help in anyway."

At his eager tone, Subaru faltered. He couldn't just barge into a stranger's house, but he didn't have much of a choice here, unless he wanted to sleep on the footpath.

Moreover, Reinhard's eager and excited expression was making it even harder to deny it. So, he just followed his heart.

"Then, I will take you up on your offer."
