Hi my lovelies! Coming to you today with a translation of a great fiction from the very talented Voodooo with our Twilight heroes, Edward and Bella.
I hope you will join me on this new adventure and enjoy the story.
Rosalie was absolutely insane.
"Rose, we'll never manage. Can't you see it's impossible?" I complained.
"'Impossible' is not a term that's part of my vocabulary, Bella! Apply yourself and you'll see. We can do it!"
I had been jumping on Rosalie's luggage for 20 minutes while she tried to close it. To no avail. There were far too many clothes in there. Rose just had to get a fifth luggage. At this point, one more or one less…
Yet another blast of the horn got the better of my friend's calm.
"Bella, could you tell your dear brother to come help us close this bloody luggage instead of honking like a maniac? We're already late anyway."
I didn't even have the time to slide my head through the window to call Jasper to the rescue that already, he came into Rosalie's room like a fury.
"What the hell are you two doing?! I've been waiting for you in the care for over half an hour!"
Noticing the pile of luggage, my brother stopped dead in his tracks and wasn't able to prevent a curse word from escaping his mouth.
"Bloody hell, Rosalie, will you be dressing the entire dorm with all of this?!" he asked, eyes wide.
"Please stop with the nonsense, Jasper, will you? Instead, help me buckle up this devil item!" she said, pointing to the huge pink luggage with her index finger.
Jasper got to work, and 10 minutes later, it was the car's trunk, jam-packed, that we were desperately trying to close. Then, we got into my brother's Jeep. Direction Seattle.
It was the end of summer already. It had been two months since Rosalie and I had graduated high school and been accepted into Seattle University. We were thrilled! A whole new life was ahead of us… Not only were we both leaving the family cocoon that had become a little too suffocating lately and gaining our independence, but most importantly, we were finally leaving Forks,
the dull and sad little town of Washington where nothing ever happened.
While Rosalie had always lived in Forks, that wasn't my case… Shortly after my birth, my mom had left my dad and taken me with her to Phoenix, away from him and this gloomy, rainy town. I had stayed in Phoenix until I turned 14. It was then that I decided to reconnect with my dad, more out of rebellion than family conscience. The thing was my mother, Renée, had remarried and the least one could say was that Renée and I got along like cat and dog. Thus, when I had told my father about my issues with my stepfather, he had invited me to come spend some time with him in Forks. And what was supposed to be a simple vacation turned into an extended stay.
It was in high school – that hosted only a hundred people -that I'd met Rosalie Hale. If someone had told me at the time that we would end up being the best of friends, I wouldn't have believed them. She and I were polar opposites…
Rosalie was the most popular girl in high school and perhaps more generally, the most popular girl in Forks, whereas I was the perfect little stranger, the daughter of the one who had cowardly abandoned Charlie Swan, the town's sheriff. At 14, Rose had a physique to die for: tall, blonde, slender, with a perfect figure and a flawless look. She always looked like she was shooting an ad for a major cosmetic brand. I, on the other hand, at 14, was some kind of misshapen creature semi-human, semi-… alien, let's put it that way, with arms too long and legs too thin. Not to mention my look, or rather lack thereof. It was an ad against acne that I always looked like I was shooting.
In spite of our differences, Rosalie had become one of the most important people in my life. My brother having stayed in Phoenix with my Mom and Phil, it was Rosalie who had been by my side during the main stages of my life. She was there during the best times as well as the worst… She had witnessed my first kiss (which she had engineered). She had taught me how guys operated. She had given me my first driving lessons under Charlie's inquisitive eye. She was even the one who had bought me my first bra (which had held her no real utility until I turned 16) and given me a makeover from head to toe. Not to mention all the makeup stuff and teaching me how to wear high heels… In short, Rosalie was the big sister I'd never had.
And our friendship had lasted to this day, two days before our entry to university. Together, we had survived Forks and high school, and we were about to begin the greatest experience of our lives…
"Bella, yoohoo! Stop daydreaming, we've arrived!" called Rosalie, shaking me slightly.
"Wh… what, already?"
"Yep! Come help us with the luggage."
Carrying one luggage each, leaving it to Jasper to carry the other three, we walked up the stairs, four at a time to see what our room looked like. Once in front of room 253, I inserted the key in the lock and opened the door. To my big surprise, someone had already moved in, judging by the pile of clothes on the bed.
"What the hell is this?!" cried Rosalie.
"I don't know, Rose! The person I spoke to on the phone assured we that we should share the same room and…"
"That's impossible. Let me check the form!"
"But Rose, if it weren't our room, I wouldn't have been able to open the door…"
"Hi." A voice we didn't know interrupted us.
We were so busy looking over the document I was holding that we hadn't noticed the woman standing before us, a towel wrapped around her chest.
"Uh… hi." I replied, taken aback.
"I'm Alice. You must be Bella, I assume?"
"Yes, that's right, but…"
"What are you doing here?" Rosalie spat, arms crossed over her chest.
"What am I doing here? I live here!" answered Alice, clearly amused by Rose's remark.
"Impossible."
"I'm telling you that I do. Just check your document…"
Quickly, my friend took her form out of her designer handbag. For a moment, she turned livid. Grabbing the form in question, I realized Alice was right: Rosalie's room number was 263. My friend looked at me with horror.
"Bella, I don't want to share my room with anybody but you!"
"Calm down, Rose. There was a small misunderstanding… It's not that big of a deal! You said you were excited about college to meet new people, well, there you go!"
"But…"
"WATCH OUT!" Jasper yelled, rushing towards us at breakneck speed, crushed by the weight of Rosalie's luggage.
Rosalie and I had the time to move out of the way. Alice didn't. Jasper swept her along and they finished their track on Alice's bed, Jasper on top of my new roommate, their faces a few centimeters apart.
They looked at each other straight in the eye for a moment, mouth agape, without uttering a word.
"What a charming way to meet." Alice said with a smile.
Realizing the position they were in, Jasper jumped to his two feet and began to blush fiercely.
"I… I'm… I'm so sorry, Ma'am, but… Rosalie… her luggage… too heavy, I… Sorry."
"No harm done." Alice reassured him while readjusting her towel.
When my brother noted the young woman's clothing or lack thereof, his blush intensified, which caused Rosalie and I to burst out laughing. Alice, however, gave him a tender smile.
"I think I'm gonna go put on something more… comfortable." She said.
"I think that'd be wise." Rose commented between two laughs. "Jasper, I have bad news: you're going to have to carry my luggage to room 263 down the hall. I won't be staying with Bella after all. It is Alice who you literally just threw yourself on who will be her roommate."
Jasper groaned at Rosalie before grabbing her luggage.
"Goodbye, Jasper!" Alice spoke softly, serving him her most beautiful smile.
"B -bye Alice." Jasper replied before exiting the room, followed closely by an entertained Rosalie.
The door was barely closed that Alice surged into attack.
"Who was that guy?!"
"Jasper, my brother."
"Oh my God, he is so cute! Is he single?"
"I believe so…"
Truth be told, I had no clue… Jasper and I had just reconnected. Older than me, he had been attending Seattle University for 2 years, with Biology as his major. When he knew I had been accepted, he had offered to bring, Rose and I, to campus. Everything had happened so fast that I hadn't had the time to catch up on his life since I had moved away from Forks. Besides, it was a rather sensitive topic between us. He had never really understood my desire to leave them…
"Perfect!" Alice exclaimed, a satisfied smile on her face.
Her remark made me laugh. Clearly, she had a small crush on Jasper, and from what I'd seen, my brother was not insensitive to my new roommate's charm…
"Ok, Bella. If you agree to tell me everything about Jasper, I will help you unpack."
"That seems fair."
"So deal?"
"Deal."
We spent the rest of the evening putting away what little things I had brought in the closet while telling each other about our lives. When she unpacked the box containing all my books, Alice burst out laughing. I had brought more novels than clothing.
"What's so funny?"
"I feel like I'm standing in front of my brother's library. You have the same literary taste: Jane Austen, Emily Brontë, Margaret Mitchell…"
"So your brother is a hopeless romantic!"
"You could say that!"
"You need to introduce us sometime!" I was only half-joking.
"Oh, I intend to." She replied with a knowing look that I chose not to comment on.
After putting away pretty much everything, we got on our beds and kept talking. Alice was really nice, and I could already tell that I was lucky to have gotten her as a roommate. I wondered what was going on with Rosalie and her mysterious roommate…
Tomorrow was going to be a long day: between the administrative paperwork, having to decide what courses to enroll in, looking for a job, and getting familiar with the campus, I would certainly not know where to look.
Exhausted by the day, I fell into a dreamless sleep.
Thank you for reading. I have no beta for the time being, so please forgive any spelling mistakes.
