This is a Gamer Story taking place in the World of One Piece. I assume that you have some basic knowledge about both of them. Also, special thanks to KyonSmith13 for BetaReading as well as the good suggestions to improve the story.
Sunsera Island, North Blue
On a small island in one of the remote corners of the North Blue, a young man of the age of 19 sat near a cliff looking into the distance. A light breeze blew around him making his black hair flutter and the map he was holding hard to read.
The young man was considering two possible routes to the next island over, Logster Island. The first route was shorter, but he would likely be attacked by a Sea King on the way, an encounter most seafarers would dread. The second route, while safer, was more roundabout and would take around two weeks longer. Then again, the long journey would also mean more time to prepare for the Grand Line and perhaps even a chance to encounter more people for his crew.
Skill Lv. Up! North Blue Geography Lv. 56 → 57
He dismissed the pop-up message with a thought, like a thousand times before. After he did so he went back to studying the map in front of him. Over the last three months which he spent on the island, the young man wanted to learn as much as he could about the region of this world called North Blue. The geography of this planet was completely different from what he was used to from his old one. The most notable difference of this world was its sole continent, which traversed the entire world along the prime meridian, cutting the world into two oceans which were separated further by another bizarre part of this world, the equatorial sea current called the Grand Line. These two features divided the oceans into four smaller seas called the Blues which were named after the cardinal points. This was truly a strange layout for a world, but then again, there were plenty of stranger world-layouts than that of 'One Piece'.
Taking another look around the map, the young man nodded. The longer route seemed like the better route to Reverse Mountain.
With that in mind, the young man swiped down his index figure, opening a video game-like window in front of him. This window could only be seen by him and was part of the powers he received after he woke up in this world.
Quest: Across the Line
Objective:
( ) Cross over into the Grand Line
Rewards: 12.500 EXP, 500.000 Berry, 5 Skill Points, 10 Stat Points
Bonus Objective:
( ) Cross over into the Grand Line via Reverse Mountain
Bonus Rewards: 1.500 EXP, 50.000 Berry, 1 Stat Point
The young man whistled at the rewards for the Quest. Completing it would give him quite a good boost upon entering the Grand Line. The amount of EXP, Skill, and Stat Points awarded was phenomenal. The EXP alone would be almost half a Level Up, worth months of normal training and easier Quests. The Skill and Stat Points were some of the most important factors in getting stronger and were hard to come by. The gains he had gotten from training were tapering off, and the only Quests that awarded these points were very hard Quests. That said a lot about what it would take to just enter the Grand Line, but what were some sweet points without a little risk?
The young man stood up and stretched as he looked out into the distance where the sun touched the ocean coloring it in a beautiful orange color. This was the ocean that the young man would soon sail to fulfill his dream... the dream to conquer the Grand Line and become the Pirate King.
Tomorrow would be the day he finally set sail again. It had only been a couple of months, but he already missed it. Besides, it was about time that he finally started to go after his goal for real.
With this in mind and a smirk on his face, the young man started to make his way back to the only town on the island. In his thoughts, he was already making plans for the future.
How everything started…
One minute he was re-watching Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, the next he was suddenly gasping for air as everything around him grew darker while he was slowly sinking to the bottom of the ocean... or at least that was what the young man thought happened. That part of his memories was still hazy and he only had clear memories after he was washed up on the shores of some island. After having coughed up a lot of seawater out of his lungs, he finally was able to see where he got stranded. What he saw next was not something a person could easily forget. In front of him were strange trees that looked like they came straight out of an anime. However, the shock about the trees was forgotten after he realized that he had somehow turned back into a fourteen-year-old child, a window explaining that he was now in possession of a Gamer system, and was now in the One Piece world... how could one ever forget such a day?
At first questions like "Why me?" or "For what reason?" swirled through the head of the young man, but his existential crisis did not last long. He had more pressing matters to deal with, like survival and playing ar- ahem, practicing with the awesome abilities he was now in possession of.
After he figured out that he was in the world of "One Piece", he tried to discern where and when he was. Apparently, it had only been nine years since Roger's execution and the start of the Great Age of Pirates which meant that Luffy would only start his adventure thirteen years later. There had even been a couple of Warlords around that he didn't know, but over the years all but one of those were replaced by the ones he knew from the canon story. The world seemed to be developing in the same direction as the manga and anime he knew and loved… well, it wasn't exactly the same. His presence caused some changes in the world, some he did knowingly while others he only found out about after the fact.
As he tried to get used to his new life he made sure to always keep track of what was going on around him. He also started to cultivate allies whom he could recruit into his own pirate crew and sail this new world, a task easier said than done as a thirteen-year-old in a world with an ever-increasing number of pirates. Sure, he could have aimed to get to the Grand Line and eventually join the Straw Hats. However, that would mean he would have to sit around for quite a few years which was something he was not too keen on doing. Also, who would want to become the underling of some idiot like Luffy? No thank you, he would aim to become Pirate King himself and then do whatever he pleases in this world.
Soon the edge of the town he resided in for the last few months came into view. The town was a rustic and peaceful place and he had to admit that it had grown on him. A couple of minutes later he was already walking on the main street towards the docks. The town wasn't all that big, with a population barely reaching 500, but there were a few interesting things on the island. Like…
"Ah, hello there Rogue," an elderly lady called out to him from the rocking chair on her small porch. This caught the attention of the young man who turned around to the woman.
Shirley Nebula, Eldest in the Village, Lv.5
"Good afternoon, Mrs. Nebula," the young man greeted her.
"Oh Rogue, I told you to call me Shirley," the elderly woman said with a smile. "Being called 'Mrs.' always makes me feel so old."
"But you don't look even a year older than fifty," Rogue replied to the woman who was in her mid-seventies.
"You are such a charmer," Miss Nebula chuckled.
"Grandmother, I'll go and buy some fish for... oh, Rogue," a young woman said as she walked out of the house.
Dorothea Nebula, Daughter of the Mayor, Lv. 2
"Ah, Dorothea darling," Miss Nebula said as she saw her granddaughter.
"Hey there, Dorothea," Rogue greeted the girl.
"A good day to you as well, Rogue," Dorothea replied, brushing her hair behind her ear, a gesture Shirley noticed.
"Why you look absolutely lovely today, dear," Miss Nebula commented.
Dorothea blushed. "Grandmother, stop it! It's nothing much."
Rogue smiled fondly at their interaction as he placed his hand around a necklace he was wearing. They reminded him of his own happy family in his old life, or at least what little he still managed to remember of it.
"Rogue, you're going to check on the progress of your ship, right?" Miss Nebula asked.
"That's right," Rogue nodded.
"In that case why don't you accompany him to the docks?" Miss Nebula asked Dorothea. "You have to buy some fish for tonight's dinner anyway."
"If Rogue doesn't mind my company," Dorothea replied as she glanced at him.
"I don't mind," Rogue said.
"Then have fun you two," Miss Nebula said with a sly smile. Dorothea blushed again and set off with Rogue towards the docks.
"So, how is your ship getting along?" Dorothea asked as they walked next to each other.
"Yeah, it should be finished in the next few days," Rogue said, surprising Dorothea.
"Already?"
"Yeah, Francis sure works fast," Rogue stated, with a small laugh. "Normally, it would take half a year to build a ship of that size, but Francis did it in half that time."
"That means you will soon leave the island, right?" Dorothea asked.
"I plan to leave as soon as possible," Rogue nodded.
"But why?" she pressed.
"Because my crew had to wait for three months and I don't want them to wait any longer. It's time that we finally head out for our big adventure," Rogue said smiling at her.
"You mentioned something about an adventure before… but what exactly do you mean?" Dorothea asked.
"My crew and I want to tackle the Grand Line and discover all there is to discover," Rogue replied.
He and his crew had hidden the fact that they were pirates from almost anyone on this island. There were multiple good reasons for doing so, not least of which was the fact that the island was under the protection of a nearby Marine base.
"You... you plan to travel to the Grand Line?" Dorothea asked, horrified. "It's probably the most dangerous place in the entire world! It even got the scary nickname 'Pirate Graveyard'."
"Sure, it's dangerous, but my crew and I are more than prepared to take the risk," Rogue assured ber.
"But why?"
"Because I have a dream… and I am certain that I would regret it for the rest of my life if I didn't try fulfilling it," Rogue said looking towards the ocean.
Dorothea still could not understand why Rogue was willing to face such great dangers. "What dream could be so important that you would risk your life?"
"A crazy one which will get me involved in a lot of dangerous situations," Rogue smiled wryly. "However, I'm confident in my own strength… and even more in that of my crew."
"You don't look all that strong to me."
"Don't judge a book by its cover," Rogue admonished as the two of them walked by an alley.
When they did, Rogue couldn't help but notice a certain three troublemakers. He sighed when he spotted the trio spraying a skull with crossed bones on the wall of a house. They would often run around town loudly proclaiming that they were going to become pirates, and would even—as they were currently doing—graffiti various ideas for jolly rogers onto the other villagers' properties. Unsurprisingly, most of the townsfolk openly disliked them. Rogue felt sorry for these teens, but that did not excuse their behavior.
"Oh, I totally forgot!" he exclaimed, stopping suddenly after the three were out of sight.
"What the matter, Rogue?"
"Francis told me to bring something with me when I come down to the docks and I forgot it," Rogue lied. "Sorry, but I have to go back and get it."
"I don't mind waiting," Dorothea stated.
"You don't have to. I'm sure we'll see each other at the docks in a bit," he called back to her. Hurrying back the way he came, he turned around the corner of the house he passed earlier, where he saw the three troublemakers about to finish their tagging.
'Troublemaker' William, Lv. 5
Emerald, Crafty Thief, Lv. 6
Austin, Bookworm, Lv. 3
"Hey, you three!" he called out to them. The budding vandals flinched at the sudden noise and slowly turned around to see who it was, sighing in relief when they recognized Rogue. "You know that drawing half-assed flags on other people's buildings is rude! You better have this cleaned up or the mayor will punish you later! Or I can do that right now!"
"Aw, come on Rogue. We were just havin' a bit of fun,'' William sheepishly responded.
"Besides you never turned us in," Emerald added.
"S-she's right," Austin whispered.
Rogue smirked. "Well, today might be different. After all, it might be my last day on the island."
"You're leaving the island?" William asked in surprise.
"Yeah, I will follow my dream and sail the entire world. Who knows? Maybe I'll become a pirate as well," Rogue said with a small laugh.
"No way, you're way too nice to be a pirate!" Emerald shouted, pointing at Rogue. "If you want to be a pirate you have to be ruthless and break rules and… a lot more stuff you don't do!"
"Well, I break rules too, you know," Rogue replied. "However, a pirate doesn't have to be ruthless or kill innocent people."
"But that's what all the famous pirates do!" William argued. "Or do you think that big-time rookies like 'Grand Fisher' Mako, 'Perfect Copy' Chameleone, or 'Heatwave' Wilder became famous and have a large bounty because they are nice?"
"Well, I can't argue with that," Rogue nodded. "Guys like them all have large bounties, but I think there are a lot of stronger and cooler pirates out there who don't pillage, raid, rape, and kill innocent people."
"As if! Like there are any stronger pirates in this generation," William denied.
"Well, if words can't convince you... take a look at the next couple of newspapers that come to the island. My face might show up in one of them," Rogue said with a smirk. "Anyway, you three were about to clean the wall and I have to take a look at my ship."
"Rogue... would you... would you let us take a look at your ship?" Austin asked. Next to him, Emerald and even William nodded in agreement.
"Only if you clean up every single spot on that wall," Rogue replied, walking back around the corner.
Rogue knew about the three pirates that William had mentioned. He actually had a fight with them and to tell the truth... he was not impressed at all. That 'Grand Fisher' guy didn't even last a minute against him before he got roasted. From what he could gather, the other two were just as weak, and Rogue had quickly lost interest in them. Unfortunately, he still did not know how he would fare against a pirate from the Worst Generation, let alone an Emperor, and so he continued to train diligently. In fact...

He wondered how his stats would compare to those of the future Worst Generation that will come in several years. After having come to this world, he used most of his points to gain physical attributes at first instead of mental ones hoping that this would help him survive in a world filled with superhumans. However, as he started to learn more about the system behind his power he came to regret putting his points primarily into his physical stats. In this world there are three forms of strength, the first is having a Special Fruit which gives you superpowers, the second is to learn how to do Haki, and the final, most simple of them was 'how hard you can hit your opponent'.
Rogue knew that even after the five years he had trained he would stand no chance against monsters like most of the Shichibukai, let alone the Admirals, and the Yonko. He certainly was not stupid enough to just go and try fighting them while he didn't even master Haki to a very advanced level. However, considering his progress until now this might take a while until he gets to the mastery he wanted to achieve. Awakening his Devil Fruit would also help, but that was another item on his apparently ever-growing task list.
Thinking about those people, Rogue could not help but wonder what level they would be. It was over a decade before canon began, meaning that their power could differ from what he knew from the manga. Maybe some of these characters were not as strong as they were in canon. While thinking about these monsters as he walked into the harbor Rogue didn't notice the young woman calling out to him until she got close to him.
"Geez, are you lost in thought again?" Dorothea complained as she tapped him on the shoulder.
"Huh... oh, Dorothea," Rogue said, snapping out of his reverie.
"You always tune everything out when you think... that's a bad habit," she chided.
"I know, I know," he said with a smile. He nodded to the basket she was carrying. "It seems you already got what you came for."
"Yeah, Uncle Gorton was nice enough to put aside some of the good tuna for me," she lifted the basket. "You know... maybe I could-"
"Hey, Rogue," a voice called out to him, cutting off whatever Dorothea was about to say.
Both Rogue and Dorothea turned towards the direction of the voice. They saw Rogue's oldest friend in this world, shipwright, and vice-captain.
Francis, Shipwright, Lv. 29
Francis had spiky black hair and dark blue eyes and was almost 180cm tall. He had a muscular build from his work and training but was not bulky. He had a scar on his forehead above his left eye that was partially covered by his hair, a memento of a fight they had against a pirate a few years ago.
"About time you showed up!" Francis exclaimed as he walked up to them and his eyes darted over to Dorothea. "Oh, I see... you two have a date, huh?"
"That-" Dorothea started before Rogue cut in.
"No, we just walked to the docks together," he replied much to Dorothea's annoyance.
"Uh-huh," Francis said. "So, do you want to see your ship?"
"Why else would I be here?" Rogue said with a smirk.
"How about you Dorothea? Want to check her out as well?" Francis asked the girl.
"I would love to," Dorothea replied.
"Then follow me," Francis said, leading them towards their dock.
When Rogue saw the ship he knew that she would carry them for a long time. She was on the bigger side, being a hybrid between a galleon and a trading ship, which would require a bigger crew to sail efficiently... luckily for Rogue, he already had a crew of over 20 people, most of them waiting patiently on the island for Francis to finish the ship. Rogue had already decided to keep his crew at a reasonable size instead of limiting himself to a small squad of visually distinctive individuals. A crew as small as Luffy's was simply not feasible for traversing the Grand Line. Even the Pirate King Gol D. Roger had a crew of over 30 people, to say nothing of the armies the Yonko commanded. Most of the crew Rogue had gathered was around Lv. 15, which was above average for pirates from one of the Blues. The rest, including Francis and himself, were of significantly higher level and would likely be doing the heavy lifting in terms of fighting.
"She's a real beauty," Rogue praised as they stood before her.
"I know. She's my masterpiece," Francis said proudly. "And the shipwrights from this island aren't half bad either. I learned a few things from them."
"This gigantic ship is yours?" Dorothea asked in awe. "I thought this was the ship for some rich merchant."
"No, this is my ship. And she'll be taking us across the seas," Rogue responded with an excited grin.
"Alright captain, Dorothea... want to take a look inside?" Francis asked.
"Of course!" Rogue exclaimed.
"Uh... sure," Dorothea replied before following the two.
The ship had a total length of 165 feet and had three square-rigged masts. At the aft of the ship was the quarterdeck, which contained the ship's wheel and the belfry. Below this deck was the captain's quarters. It was very spacious compared to the crew's quarters. There was also a steering pole located inside the room which served as a secondary way of steering. Located near the captain's quarters were the library and chart room.
The crew's quarters were near the middle of the ship. They visited the men's quarters first. It was quite large to accommodate all of the male crew members sleeping there in the future except for Rogue and Francis who had their personal quarters. Then there were the women's quarters. Rogue and Francis had no clue what should be in there, so they just set up some hammocks for them as well and left it up to the female crew members to decorate the quarters as they wanted.
Near the crew's quarters were the galley and mess hall. There were also two heads, separate for men and women, which included showers. Francis had also somehow managed to connect the two with a cabin containing a hot tub.
The deck below included the sickbay, which was fully provisioned and equipped according to the exacting specifications the crew's doctor had left with Rogue and Francis. It was a suite consisting of three rooms: an examination room, an operating theater, and a supply room stocked with medicines and other medical supplies. This deck also included a lounge for the crew to relax in, as well as a workshop and armory. The lowest level of the ship was its hold. It contained food, spare materials, and other supplies needed or requested for the upcoming voyage, and had ample room left over for treasure.
The ship was armed with 24 twelve-pound cannons: ten on the upper deck and fourteen on the lower gun deck. Rogue actually wanted to have a few more cannons, but Francis was against it. He believed that they already had enough firepower and Rogue could do more damage than hundreds of these things. However, Rogue managed to talk Francis into installing a mortar on the ship as well as several swivel guns for more precise fire.
Atop the main mast was the crow's nest where Dorothea refused to go. It was larger than average so that it could also serve as the living quarters of Benelli who would be spending most of her time up there. She had decorated it to fit her taste which meant enough guns to wage a war single-handedly.
"That ship is fantastic. You outdid yourself with this one, pal," Rogue said to Francis after the tour was over.
"Truly... this ship is incredible," Dorothea said, still having trouble believing that this ship belonged to Rogue.
"Have you given her a name yet?" Rogue asked his vice-captain.
"No, I thought the honor should belong to the captain," Francis responded.
"Are you sure you want me to name your masterpiece?"
"Without you, I doubt I would have ever gotten the chance to build her."
"Well, then let me think about it," Rogue said with a thoughtful expression. "What do you think about the Jackdaw?"
"You want to name my baby after a bird?" Francis asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, with this ship we are going to be as free on the ocean as a bird in the sky."
"That... actually doesn't sound too bad," Francis said, patting the mainmast. "I guess, Jackdaw it is."
"Can't wait to set sail tomorrow!" Rogue said excitedly as Dorothea who was standing behind him looked down.
"Agreed, I would like to see my baby out on the open sea as well," Francis looked askance at Rogue. "Just make sure not to sink her on her maiden voyage."
"I won't! Don't worry," Rogue assured his second in command, patting him on the shoulder.
"Alright, you go gather half the crew and I'll get the rest, then we'll celebrate in the tavern! I'll make sure that by the time you get there Jeff has cooked up something good and we have enough beer for it to last the entire night!" Rogue declared.
"Sounds good, but I'll tell the crew that you're paying."
"Are you kidding me? Do you want to bankrupt me?" Rogue protested.
"I know exactly how much money you still have," Francis stated and Rogue hung his head, imagining the impending blow to his wallet.
"Fine, tell them," Rogue said as he looked up again. "Dorothea, you have to come too."
"Uh… okay, but I first have to bring the fish home and make dinner," Dorothea replied, still holding the basket with the fish.
"Sure, do that. After you're done just join us," Rogue agreed. "Alright then let's go people!"
After they stepped off the ship the three each went their way. Dorothea went home to prepare dinner for her family, Francis went to gather half the crew, and Rogue went to get the other half. It was getting late by the time all of them had gathered at the tavern and as such, the place was becoming crowded. Besides the usual workers who gathered there in the evening, some merchants were staying for a night before they would continue their journey the next day.
Immediately after Rogue and his crew members entered the tavern they noticed Jeff, the cook of the crew who was helping out in the tavern. They were able to notice him so easily because of his unique appearance. He was one of the tallest in the crew, standing at a height of over 190cm. His black hair was styled in a mohawk which further added to his height. He had a horizontal scar starting and ending over both his cheeks and running over the bridge of his nose. His muscular physique was easily visible under the small uniform he wore.
"Hey, Jeff!" Rogue called out as he waved to the busy man.
"Oh cap… looks like the gang's all here," Jeff glanced at them before turning back to the owner of the tavern and scowled. The owner was attempting to help cook some tuna that Jeff had caught earlier that day. Emphasis on 'attempting.' "Hey old man, you're doing it wrong! Let me handle that!"
"S-sure," the owner replied meekly.
"So, Francis finished building the ship?" Jeff asked as he commandeered the station.
"Yeah, the ship is finally done!" one of the crew members cheered.
"So we're here to party!" another shouted happily.
"Often good things take time, if you rush it you will only end up with failure," Jeff nodded sagely.
"Can you make us something and then join us to celebrate?" Francis asked as he looked for some free tables.
"Cooking something is no problem, but I have to stay in the kitchen. The old man's getting swamped tonight, and I can't just leave him in the lurch," Jeff replied as he finished a dish and gave it to a waitress to bring it to a table.
"Thank you so much, Jeff," the old man said.
"Less talking, more working!" Jeff barked and the old man immediately scurried back to work. "Anyway, I won't be able to join you today. Knowing our captain, we'll celebrate often enough after we set sail."
"You know me well," Rogue laughed.
"You'll get your drinks in the next few minutes. Sit down somewhere," Jeff gestured around the dining room before he returned to cooking.
The crew split up into smaller groups to sit at the tables still available. Rogue and Francis found a table in the far corner of the tavern so they could talk more freely and without being interrupted by the rest of the crew. A couple of seconds after they did so, a waitress brought them the drinks. Rogue gave her a little tip and a roguish grin, causing the waitress to hurry away with a blush.
"Do you always have to do that?" Francis complained, taking a sip from his beer.
"Come on, just let me have a bit of fun," Rogue answered.
"And why do you never flirt with Dorothea? I know you're not an idiot, so tell me... why are you ignoring her advances? It's obvious that you could have her if you wanted."
"I know, but… she looks like a person who was once close to me. Also, I would feel like an asshole whenever I remember her and my time on the island after leaving her without coming back," Rogue stated before finishing his beer. "Besides, she isn't my type. I like girls who are a bit bigger."
Francis just sighed, shaking his head before he finished his drink as well.
"How about we talk about some serious stuff before Dorothea joins us?" Rogue gestured for more drinks. "How prepared do you think we are for the Grand Line?"
"All in all, I think we are decently prepared. Personally, I would like to get a few more members for our crew so we can operate the ship at max efficiency," Francis said. "There are certain positions which I would like to fill with experts rather than what we have now."
"Fair enough. Also, we do need someone who can read Poneglyphs," Rogue mused.
"Still don't know where we're going to find one, but sure… but I was thinking more along the line of a helmsman and a purser. The two of us did a decent job until now, but someone with even more trading or sailing experience would probably be better," Francis replied as two more drinks were placed on his table. "Have you decided yet which route we'll take for the Grand Line? You've spent more than a million berry to get the little information you have about them."
"Not yet. Maybe I'll find something else that could help me decide," Rogue explained. "Another thing, do you already have a new sword?"
"Not yet," Francis sighed.
"Then we better look for one on the next island then."
"Yeah, but I also plan to check with the merchants tomorrow. There's always a chance that guys like that have a gem among their trash."
"Tell me if you find something good."
"Will do."
Their conversation finished, Rogue stood up and whistled to get the attention of the room. "All drinks for the crew and the workers who helped build my ship are on me today!" Rogue's announcement was met with cheers as a festive atmosphere quickly filled the tavern.
That's it for chapter 1 of the Rewrite of "North Blue Gamer". I hope you enjoyed it and thanks once again to KyonSmith13 for Beta Reading as well as for helping to improve the story.
A few more things I want to address:
The Reviews, I will reply to them directly with the exception of guest Reviews. The guest Reviews I will put at the very end of the chapter so that they won't get in the way of those who are not interested in them.
As for why I decided to have Rogue start his journey 7 years pre-Luffy… it just gives me more freedom and makes it more realistic for the progression of the story. I mean Luffy's progression is just too unnatural in my opinion. A monster like Shanks needed 15 years to become an Emperor and Luffy barely needed 3? That may be typical for a shounen protagonist, but it just doesn't fit well with world-building.
As for the Devil Fruit of Rogue… that's something you will know soon enough and it is already decided.
Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter and look forward to the next. Finally, how about I give you a little treat and show you the Status of Luffy at the beginning of his story.
