The Last Five Years of Being Pitch Perfect

So, the idea of doing a crossover of The Last Five Years and Pitch Perfect randomly came to me, and I couldn't let go of the idea. I haven't done a crossover before, but I hope you enjoy it. By the way, this is with the actors from The Last Five Years movie that I have in mind for this so, Anna Kendrick. Trigger warning because I swear a ton, but I think that's about it. Enjoy!

Cathy Hiatt slammed down her second drink and signaled for the bartender to bring her another one. "Keep 'em coming, dude."

"Rough day?" Cathy looked up and was immediately overwhelmed. She had been coming to this bar several times a week for the past month and it tended to be mostly old men going on and on about the war. This beautiful red head was certainly out of place.

"Rough…year, to be honest." Cathy muttered as the bartender set down a tall beer. She grabbed it before it even left his hand.

The redhead smiled. "Do you mind if I sit?" She gestured to the empty seat next to Cathy.

"Um, no." Cathy forced a smile. It had been about a month since she had genuinely smiled. "I'm Cathy. Cathy Well-" Cathy's smile faded. "I mean, Cathy Hiatt."

"Chloe Beale." Chloe shook Cathy's hand. "Whatcha drinking?"

Cathy glanced at her drink. "Can I be honest? I have no fucking clue. I just asked for a beer and let them decide the brand." She took a sip. "Not bad, though."

"Well, that's all the reviews I need." Chloe gestured to the bartender. "Could I have the same as her, please?" The redhead flashed a grin at Cathy. "And I think we could use two tequila shots here."

Cathy smiled. "Did you have a rough day too?"

"Not particularly, I just like tequila." Chloe shrugged.

"Never need a reason for tequila." Cathy agreed as the bartender sat down the shots and two lime wedges. Chloe grabbed the salt that was nearby and they both licked and salted their hands.

"What should we toast to?" Chloe asked.

Cathy thought for a second. "New beginnings?"

Chloe smiled. "I love it." The girls clicked their glasses, licked the salt off their hands, shot the tequila, and bit into their wedges.

Cathy smiled, feeling the effects of the alcohol. "Chloe, right?"

"Exactly." Chloe winked.

"Tell me, what do you do?"

"I'm a vet, actually. But I kind of hate it, to be honest." Chloe sighed. "It's not what I wanted to do."

"What did you want to do?" Cathy asked, taking a deep swig of her drink.

"Don't make fun of me." Chloe warned.

"Never!" Cathy assured her.

"I wanted to be…a famous singer. A star, honestly. See, I was in an acapella group in college and…you're laughing!" Chloe complained.

"No, no." Cathy shook her head. "I'm not laughing because you wanted to be a star. I'm laughing because that's exactly what I wanted to be. What I want to be."

"Really?" Chloe looked interested. "Do you sing?"

Cathy nodded. "And I'm an actress. Well, very much a struggling actress, but I guess an actress."

"That's so cool!" Chloe grabbed Cathy's hands, excited. Cathy felt a rush of electricity flow through her. "You're actually doing what I didn't have the lady balls to do!"

"Well, 'actually doing' might be a bit of a stretch." Cathy sighed. "The biggest thing I've done is a series of shows in fucking Ohio."

"I've never been to Ohio; I mean I've traveled through, but I've never actually stopped there." Chloe said, taking a gulp of her drink.

"Don't ever go!" Cathy warned her, now about ¾'s done with her drink. "Just don't! You'll be rooming with an ex-stripper and her snake."

"Her snake?" Chloe gasped.

"Wayne." Cathy nodded seriously.

Chloe laughed. "I've called my old roommate a snake as well."

"Oh my God, did you room with a stripper to?" Cathy asked, then turned to the bartender. "Another one of these, please?" She asked, pointing to her beer.

"No, she's my ex." Chloe's face suddenly fell. "Maybe it's not fair to call her that, she didn't really mean to hurt me."

"Tell me all about it!" Cathy begged, taking a sip of her beer.

"I…actually proposed to her a little over six months ago." Chloe took a swig of her beer. "It didn't go exactly as I expected…she kinda freaked out. Apparently, she wasn't ready to be that serious. She…she said she still wanted to be together, she just wasn't ready to get married. But…"

"Yes?" Cathy was staring eagerly at Chloe.

"It was clear from that moment on that we were at different stages in our relationship, and she broke up with me." Chloe sighed. "We're working on being just friends right now but…when our lease ran up, we thought it would be best to not renew it and try to get used to single life separately."

"I'm so sorry, Chloe." Cathy said, grabbing her hand reassuringly. "Break-ups are a bitch."

"Is that…is that why you're upset too?" Chloe asked her.

Cathy nodded. "I was married. For a couple years." Cathy scoffed. "I was with this guy for five fucking years, and he just disappears with a very well written letter." Cathy rolled her eyes. "Clearly fame has gone to his head."

"Is he famous?" Chloe asked.

"Jamie Wellerstein. The author." Cathy said in a mocking tone.

"Oh." Chloe nodded. "I tried to read one of his books once, but I got stuck about halfway through. Why did he just randomly add a mermaid?"

Cathy laughed. "I have no idea! He would read that out loud at book readings and I would have to fight to keep a straight face, to be honest."

Chloe grinned and turned to the bartender. "I'm going to need another one of these. I feel like we are going to be here a while."

"No way, so you're like a world famous acapellist?" Cathy thought for a second. "Acapellaer? Acapellay? What is it?"

"Oralist?" Chloe suggested and both girls cracked up, Cathy pretty drunk by this point and Chloe on her way to being drunk.

"I love a girl who can work her mouth." Cathy joked and then covered her mouth. "Oh my God, I cannot believe I just said that."

"Wait, so you also like girls?" Chloe asked, excited.

"I like the best of both worlds." Cathy winked.

"Can't relate." Chloe took a gulp of her fourth drink. "Penis has never done it for me."

"I used to think that Jamie made up for all the asshole guys I've dealt with in the past." Cathy confessed. "Until he fucking started sleeping around."

"No." Chloe gasped.

"You know what's funny though?" Cathy finished her drink. "What's funny is he was the one sleeping around, but he would somehow always make me out to be the bad guy. How does that work? How the fuck does that work?"

"It sounds like you deserved better." Chloe assured her. "God, it must have been hard dating someone so…" Chloe did air-quotes. "so 'famous'."

"No, it wasn't at all hard having my career be in the toilet while he was on the goddamn bestsellers list." Cathy said sarcastically. "I tried…I tried so hard to just be happy for him, but I just constantly felt inadequate and…he resented my jealousy." She shrugged. "I can't really blame him."

"No, he had no right to resent you for being jealous." Chloe shook her head. "I know how you feel. I was co-captain of the Bellas with Beca but…everyone knew Beca was the one with the real talent. She was the one who made all of our mixes and she had a stronger voice and…it's hard not to let that show." Chloe shook her head. "You know what? I think Beca might have resented that too."

Cathy shook her head. "We don't need to be jealous of them anyway. I've never heard you sing, but I'm sure you're hella talented."

"Same to you!" Chloe said, finishing her drink. "Hey. Shots?"

"Yes!" Cathy turned toward the bartender. "Two tequila shots?"

"I said 'last call' five minutes ago." The bartender told her.

"Two tequila shots and we will leave." Cathy bargained. The bartender though for a moment then reluctantly poured them the shots. Chloe and Cathy grinned.

"What to?" Cathy asked, slurring a bit as she did. Chloe raised her eyebrows.

"Think you can handle a shot?" Chloe asked.

"Of course!" Cathy insisted. "What to?"

Chloe looked skeptical but thought for a minute. "To letting go of jealousy."

Cathy nodded and they clicked glasses.

"Woah." Cathy murmured.

"You gonna get home okay?" Chloe asked.

"Um, I drove, so probably not." Cathy asked.

Chloe looked around to see that the bartenders were closing up. "We should probably let them close…why don't you call an Uber and you can wait at my house until it comes? I don't want you waiting outside of here at this time of night or in this weather."

"Sure!" Cathy asked, excited to spend more time with the pretty redhead. The girls put down their tips and started walking toward Chloe's apartment.

"I'm about a ten-minute walk away." Chloe assured her. Chloe was walking pretty well, but Cathy (who had had a few more drinks and was shorter than the red head) was stumbling as they walked out of the bar.

"Are you okay?" Chloe asked, concerned.

"Peachy!" Cathy assured her. They made it a few minutes closer to Chloe's house before Cathy stopped. "Oh fuck." Cathy turned away from Chloe and started throwing up on the sidewalk.

"Oh, sweetie." Chloe muttered and held Cathy's hair back. "Honey do you live by yourself?"

"Yes." Cathy choked out before vomiting again.

"I…I know we just met but…" Chloe was thinking of the right way to phrase this. "Would you like to sleep on my couch? I don't feel comfortable sending you home like this."

Cathy coughed a bit then nodded. "Yeah. That would probably be best."

"Here." Chloe motioned for the shorter girl to lean on her. "It's just a little longer. Do you think you can make it?"

"Yeah." Cathy agreed and together the two girls managed to stumble to Chloe's apartment.

"Okay, so the bathroom is down the hall, there's an extra blanket on the couch if needed, I got you a phone charger…" Chloe was trying to think if Cathy needed anything else.

"Can I have some mouth wash?" Cathy laughed. "My mouth tastes like shit."

Chloe chuckled. "Yeah, come with me." Chloe led the other girl to her bathroom and got her a paper cup filled with mouthwash. Cathy rinsed her mouth.

"I'm so tired." Cathy muttered.

"Yeah, and you're probably going to feel like shit in the morning." Chloe predicted.

"I'll bet you're right." Cathy made her way back to Chloe's couch.

"Do you need anything else?" Chloe asked.

Cathy motioned for Chloe to sit down on the couch. Chloe obeyed feeling a bit drunker as the exhaustion started to hit her. According to her wall clock it was after 4am.

"Can I try something?" Cathy whispered. Chloe cocked her head and Cathy grinned.

"No one has…I haven't felt anyone care about me at all since Jamie left." Cathy admitted, then took a deep breath. Cathy leaned forward and pushed her lips against Chloe.

Chloe started to stop her at first but felt a rush of warmth flow through her. She had kissed a few rebound people after Beca had left, but none of them had felt as right as Cathy did. Chloe kissed her back.

Cathy suddenly started shaking and pulled away from Chloe. Chloe sat back, startled.

"Honey, what's wrong?" Chloe asked, taking her hands. Cathy just continued to cry. "Is this about…" Chloe trailed off.

"Jamie." Cathy nodded. Chloe squeezed her hand.

"Come on." Chloe gently pulled her to her feet.

"What?" Cathy asked confused. "Are we-"

Chloe laughed and continued to pull her towards her bedroom. "No, silly. We aren't having sex. You are far too drunk." Cathy sighed. "But I don't think you just sleep alone tonight. I think we both deserve to cuddle with someone tonight."

Cathy beamed. "It would be…really nice not to wake up alone."

Chloe led Cathy into her room and switched off the light. The two girls climbed into Chloe's bed and Chloe wrapped her arms around the smaller girl.

"Maybe tomorrow we can actually get to know each other a little better." Chloe suggested.

"I'd like that." Cathy beamed and curled up closer to Chloe. "Thank you for being so nice to…to a random stranger."

"I'm so glad I was." Chloe smiled and shut her eyes. "Goodnight, Cathy."

"Goodnight, Chloe."

So, what did you think? Did my random idea work? God, it killed me to not have Chloe be with Beca, but I still ship them, don't worry! Oh, and for the record, I think Chloe and Beca's voices are equally beautiful, I just need Chloe to feel insecure about hers. Anyway, please review, it really helps!
