"Another new day..." I breathed, the cool morning air releasing a silver cloud from my peach toned lips. Golden light oozed itself over the city as if someone spilt a jar of fresh honey across the landscape. The windows sparkling like diamonds and the shadows of night scrambling to the corners to grasp onto the darkness for a few moments longer. I've seen millions of sunrises, each one different from the one before. The one thing that stays the same is the fact that I haven't missed one in all of the years I've been around, and trust me... I've been around for a long ass time.

I yawn, my legs swinging as they're dangled dangerously over the side of a tall apartment building, my fingers tapping a tune on my thighs as the scent from the café in the street below reaches my nose and blows through my copper red hair, teasing at my already messy locks with smells of fresh filtered coffee and fried breakfast food. Obviously, my stomach reacted in the only appropriate way possible as it grumbled loudly in desperation.

"Mhmm..." I moaned, my teal eyes closing for a brief moment as I inhaled. My butt shuffling closer to the edge as I looked up and down at the alley below to make sure it was clear. "The things we do for a good cup of coffee." I smirked, my hands giving me the final push as I dropped into the shadows below, the air caressing my ears as people's homes rush past in a blur. I let out a light giggle as I near the ground, it was one of my favorite things to find the tallest buildings or cliffs and to just jump right off them. The thrill and excitement that burns through me every single time... I can't even describe to you how much I love it.

My aged boots that have trodden so many paths crunch on the concrete below, my knees bending as my body braced for impact. I land in a crouch, my hand landing in something slimy on the ground next to a torn open trash bag.

"That's... Disgusting..." I lifted my hand as the nastiness dripped down my fingertips. The scent of rotting food wafting into my nose. "Don't throw up..." I heave, flicking my hand to get most of it off before I locate a puddle and submerge my hand in the water from the rain the night before. After I was satisfied it was as clean as I was going to be, I stood and pulled up my hood and exited the alley – my thoughts still on the dirty sludge as I collided with something metal and started falling into the street, straight in front of an incoming bus. I was about to get myself out of that situation before I felt a leather gloved hand grab my elbow and yank me out of the way as the driver honked angrily as he passed, muttering something inappropriate, I'm sure.

"You should really watch where you're walking." A male voice grumbled as he brought me fully to my feet.

"I should watch where I'm walking? How about you..." I lifted my gaze off the bus and stopped, my eyes taking in every detail of this gorgeous and stern looking being. "Whoa..."

"Excuse me?" His eyes looked at me, taking in my rather homeless looking self and taking a step back. His gloved hand still on my elbow in case I wasn't fully steady.

"I'm sorry, I was uh..." What the hell is wrong with you?! Pull yourself together woman! "Elsewhere... I guess." I pulled my hood a little lower over my face as he continued to study me.

"Where did you even come from? There's nothing down that alley but trash and a brick wall."

"What a girl can't enjoy the solitude of those two things?" I blurted, trying to... I don't even know what I'm trying to do. Seriously, it's been a really long time before I've had a conversation longer than 'what can I get for you?' or 'Did you want ketchup with that?'

One of his eyebrows raised as his ocean blue eyes glazed over with confusion.

"I think I'll take this as my moment to leave" I said, pulling away from him and swiftly turning and walking in the direction of the café I was originally headed towards before I got so rudely interrupted by the most beautiful creature I've ever seen. "Shut up! You're being an idiot!" I cursed internally as I walked into the café, my eyes looking around to find the bathroom before I rushed into the ladies' room and slammed the door shut behind me.

"That. Was. Pathetic." I growled, pulling my hood down and turning on the taps to wash my hands with actual soap and clean water. I can't believe I just acted as if I was in secondary school, talking to my crush of two years and completely fucking it all up. I bowed my head as I let out a small groan, my wet hands sliding through my hair. It's not like I could get to know the guy, go on a few dates and act all cute. I've been around long enough to know that the people out there looking for me will do anything they can to rip away any ties or emotional attachment to anyone who dares to get remotely close. My eyes begin to fill as memories I'd pushed aside fight to get to the surface and I cup my hands under the cold flowing water and splash my face a few times to knock myself out of it.

"Not here..." I whispered as I pulled paper towels from the dispenser and dried my hands and face, my hand reaching into my pocket to pull out a hair elastic and a baseball cap. I pull my hair back into a high ponytail and slip the cap over the top, pulling it low enough so if any security cameras were around, it would hide my features. I take one more breath to compose myself as I stared at my reflection. I looked rough, I had dark shadows beneath my eyes and my complexion was pale. Not even my freckles could cover the exhaustion. My clothes were due a change, my dark green hoodie had small holes in and my black rain jacket was practically falling apart at the seams. At least my jeans that had rips in them looked more like a fashion statement rather than the real reason, they were old and falling apart. I sighed and left the restroom, taking a few steps to get to the counter as I waited behind an elderly gentleman. I could hear someone come up to line up behind me but I just kept my eyes on the sausages that were being fried up on the grill, God I was hungry.

"What can I get for ya?" The middle-aged man asked, looking at me with slight concern before deciding not to go there.

"I'll take an extra strong white coffee with a sausage sandwich please."

"British huh?"

"Afraid so." I joked, handing over some bills.

"Take a seat over there sweetheart, I'll bring it all over for ya."

I nodded in thanks and turned to take a seat, bumping into the same stranger as before and spilling some of his hot coffee on myself.

"Shit." I hissed as the heat seeped into my clothes and burned my stomach and thighs. Why does this guy just have the ability to appear out of bloody nowhere?!

"You sure do make a habit out of this don't you?" He placed the remainder of his coffee on the table beside us and just looked down at me, not even attempting to help me clean myself up or dry off.

"I thought you knew it was my full intention to get shoved into the path of an incoming bus and burn myself with scolding hot coffee before eight am." I growled, wiping away any of the excess liquid off my stinging body.

"I didn't know that, no." I could hear the smirk in his voice and I looked up with fury in my eyes.

"This isn't funny."

"Not even a little bit?" He stood over my five-foot five frame and I clenched my fists, my eyes glowing a deep orange for a mini second before I snapped myself out of it.

"No." I turned and took my food and drink and stormed out the café, I could hear him walking after me.

"Hey! How did you do that with your eyes?" He yelled, his gloved hand reaching out for my elbow once again before I swung around and let out a blast of energy that shone like the same deep orange as my eyes, sending him flying back a good couple of feet before his muscular frame landed in a heap of trash.

"I didn't mean to do that..." I whispered as his wide eyes and the gaze of passersby locked onto me.

"Shit..."

I was in trouble and I wasn't worried about the guy I just used my abilities on in a moment of frustration, I was worried about the people who was currently videoing my every move of their mobile phones. It was time for me to disappear, I backed away and started to sprint as he stood up and started to storm towards me. Fury in his eyes.
