Hello all, this is going to be my first ever fanfic :)
I love reading through advanceshipping stories/fics but I tend to not find any new work anymore :(. So I decided to write one myself haha.
This is an idea I have had for awhile and I'm going to finally write it out.
This story won't involve aura Ash and will only contain characters from the anime or mainline pokemon games.
Any time I am typing in italics, it means the character is in a dream or a flashback/memory and it will always be in the first person.
Just to be clear, I know the title has "King" in it, but this won't be some royal story. I am only calling it King's return because the main character will be very strong like a king should be.
Not much else to say, I hope you guys enjoy and please leave reviews letting me know what can be fixed and what's already good.
Chapter 1: Where are you, Ash Ketchum?
A brown haired girl had gone to bed a couple of hours ago and was tossing and turning in her bed as her dreams tormented her with the memory of her closest friend.
"Yeah, I'm excited for our journey too! Alright...see you soon!" I said excitedly as I hung up the phone and placed the small gadget into my pocket. It was currently sunset and I was sitting near the edge of a cliff with my knees tucked close to my chest. The sun was setting and a beautiful orange-golden glow was reflecting across the sea. I was currently waiting for my boat to arrive to take me and my brother, Max home. After this, I would be going off to the Johto region to excel my skills as a pokemon coordinator with my friend Drew.
I heard small rustling coming through the flowers and I turned my head at the noise. Behind me stood the raven-haired trainer who had given me the motivation to embark on my journey. I originally left on my journey with the goal in mind to just explore the world, I didn't even like pokemon! But he had shown me that there was so much more to the world than just traveling and that these little creatures could become some of our closest friends.
I frowned a bit as I instantly saw that he didn't look as confident as he normally did, it was a very rare occurrence.
"What's up Ash?" I asked him, wondering what was up.
Ash looked at me and I saw him drop his head and sigh. I watched as he bit his lip and contemplated what he was trying to say. This got my attention and I stood up and approached the boy who wasn't much taller than me.
"...Ash...you know you can talk to me about anything. If something is bothering you I'm more than happy to talk to you about it." I said as I placed my hand on his arm, a bit below his shoulder. I blushed a bit as I could slightly feel his muscles but I shook the thought out of my head. This wasn't time for those kinds of thoughts and Ash was so dense that I doubt he even realized that most guys might take that as a wrong hint.
I watched him open his mouth and at last I heard him speak.
"...May...I don't want you to leave…" I heard Ash say sadly. I gave a visible frown. I didn't want to leave either, but I really wanted to pursue my coordinating career and if I travel with Ash, I would have to deal with him wanting to challenge the gyms and if I went with Drew, I could fully focus on coordinating. Plus, Drew would definitely be able to help me become a better pokemon coordinator. I wrapped my arms around the slightly taller boy, trying to comfort him.
"I don't want to either Ash...but I really want to further my coordinating career and with you challenging gyms all the time….our schedules just get in the way." I said back to him. By now Ash had wrapped his arms around the lower arch of my back and had pulled me in. I felt so safe when I was hugging him.
"I have something else I want to tell you, May…" Ash said, still holding on to me.
"What is it, Ash?" I asked back quietly. I closed my eyes as I felt myself melt more into the hug.
"I-I like you May…" He said, I felt him loosen the hug up, letting me free. My eyes widened at what he said and I felt my heart drop. Ash...liked me?! I had always thought Ash was a very good looking person, and he had a great body along with one of the purest hearts I had ever met. But...a green haired trainer had already confessed his feelings to me and although he could be a jerk sometimes, he was definitely more relationship material than Ash. Unfortunately Ash was extremely dense most times and Drew had shown me more romantic attention and I soon found myself falling for him. I didn't know how I would break the news to Ash.
"A-Ash..what do you mean you like me?" I asked him nervously.
I heard him breathe in deeply before responding again. "I like you May...I don't think I'll ever meet a girl like you ever again. Y-you're so beautiful...and passionate and smart...I wanted to get this off my chest before you left." Ash said, I could tell he was hoping I'd return his feelings.
I blushed as I heard Ash compliment me. Maybe he wasn't as dense as we all thought he was?
"Ash...I-I can't return your feelings..." I said back sadly. I saw Ash visibly frown at me.
"You have no idea how much you mean to me!" I said as I felt a couple of tears slip out of my eyes. I didn't want our friendship to end on a bad note.
"It's Drew...isn't it?" Ash asked me quietly.
I couldn't bring myself to respond. I gulped as I looked at Ash, I tried to speak but he beat me to it.
"It's okay...I just needed you to know…" Ash said. "I wish you and Drew the best…" Ash said as he pulled in one last time for a hug. He released me and gave me a sad smile.
"I'll be heading to the Unova region May...keep in contact with me please!" Ash said, as he gained back the normal confidence he had. I was shocked, I had never seen a person be able to switch moods so quickly.
"I will! Be safe Ash!" I yelled back. I turned around and heard Ash calling my name again. I turned around and the beautiful scene that had once been there had been replaced by a heavy storm and Ash was laying on the floor and was extremely injured.
"Ash what happened?!" I yelled as I went over to him and flipped him over. He was pale and the life in him was gone!
May jolted awake after being terrified of what she had seen in her dream. The brown haired girl quickly reached to the lamp that was to the right of her bed and flicked the switch on, slightly lighting up the room. She stared at the wall in front of her for a couple seconds and then grabbed a picture that was safely framed. She set her back against her bed rest and began to look at the photo. It was a picture of her and Ash from 6 years ago. They had been standing next to each other and they both had half of a ribbon in their hand. It was from the Terracotta event that they had both participated in and ended up in a draw. She still kept the ribbon close to the picture fram and whenever she traveled she kept it close to her.
"I hope you're flying high Ash…" May muttered to herself as she looked out of the open window and into the night sky. There was a gentle breeze coming in and the town was quiet. May decided to step outside to her balcony and looked across the town as she thought about her male friend. Ash had boarded a plane 6 years ago to reach the Unova region with his mom. A couple hours into his flight, it became known that his plane was mysteriously taken down and no one on the plane was ever rescued or found.
May had spent weeks crying over the boy. He always held a special place in her heart and for the first few weeks she sometimes blamed herself for Ash's death, telling her friends and family that if she had returned Ash's feelings then maybe he wouldn't have gone to the Unova region and therefore would still be alive. They all reassured her that even if she had returned his feelings, Ash's fate was sealed and that he would still be gone since he had planned to go to the Unova region before he confessed. May heard someone else step outside to meet her.
"You doing okay, May?" A green haired young-adult said.
"Yeah...I'm fine, I just had a dream about Ash again." May admitted as she continued to look across town. Her eyes made contact with her fathers gym. She smiled a bit as she thought about her family. May felt Drew's arms wrap around her neck and felt his taller body gently press against the back of her.
"I'm sure he's watching over you babe…" Drew softly said to his girlfriend, feeling a bit sleepy still.
"Well, I'm going back to bed, don't stay up too late baby." Drew said as he turned around and headed back into the apartment that they had been staying in.
May had no response as she looked back into the sky, thinking about her friend.
6 Years Earlier…
"Honey…are you sure you want to leave some of your Pokémon behind? I mean you're leaving with only 4 of them." A beautiful woman had just said to her son.
"I'm sure mom, I'm bringing these 4 along to help me get a strong head start once we reach Unova and I'll fill out the rest of my team there." A raven haired-teen had just said to his mom. They were soon leaving for the Unova Region so that Ash could finally find his true potential and his mom wanted to come with him to see what the Unova Region was like. Ash had only taken his Pikachu, Charizard, Gible, and Infernape. He had chosen these 4 because they had always been some of his most reliable team members and he knew that if he had them, he had a solid start in Unova.
Ash had just sat down in the airport with his mom. They were headed to the Unova region since Ash believed this would be where he would find his true potential. He was planning traveling alone this time to have no distractions and to train himself and move at his own pace, not having to stop for his friends. As selfish as Ash found it, he found meaning in May's words. She had told him that she was leaving with Drew to further her coordinating talents and Ash figured that if he traveled with an actual trainer he too, could become stronger. He thought about his options and he really only had Paul, Gary and possibly Barry. Barry was too hyper for his liking, Paul was too opposite of him to travel with and Gary seemed to be the only good option but he had tried to contact Gary and Gary said he was currently on his own journey and that maybe when Ash returned he would join him for a different journey.
"All passengers boarding flight 410, please line up here!" A young flight attendant had said as she motioned where they all needed to stand.
"I'm glad you're coming with me mom!" Ash had said to his mother as they got their suitcases and walked towards the line.
"I'm glad too Ash! It'll give me a chance to finally get out of Kanto and see what else the world has. Although, I will miss Mr. Oak's company." Delia said back to her son. Soon the duo reached the entrance and flashes their tickets, showing that they were passengers for the flight. They were let on and they quickly found their seats and sat down.
"So how's May?" Ash's mom asked, curious as to how the brown haired girl was doing. She knew her son had feelings for her and she hoped that Ash would get with her. She had met May once before and she was an extremely sweet and caring girl and she knew how happy she made Ash.
Ash sighed as he told his mom his last encounter with May and how she was leaving for Johto with Drew.
"Oh...I'm so sorry Ash. You know, you guys are going to be really far from each other...do you plan on keeping in contact?" She asked her son who was looking out of the window.
"Yeah we do, I'm going to try and call her or leave her a message once a week letting her know what I'm up to and ask how she's been, but I really need to focus on my goal once we get there." Ash told his mom. Delia gave a small smile to her son before speaking.
"Well, there will be plenty of beautiful girls for you to meet once you get to Unova!" Ash's mom said, trying to cheer Ash up. Ash just chuckled and rolled his eyes at his mom's statement as he laid back and closed his eyes...drifting to sleep.
Ash was woken up as he felt the plane shaking violently. He tried drifting back to sleep but jolted his eyes back open as he heard a window shatter and screaming people. He looked outside and saw heavy rainfall and huge thunderstorms. He looked at his mom who was about to say something to him before they felt the plane take a sudden dive, causing everyone to be shoved back into their seats.
"What's going on mom?!" Ash asked, feeling extremely scared. He had been in several situations before where had had to save his friends, but something in his gut told him that this might be the end.
"Attention all passengers, we just lost all power! We're going down!" The pilot yelled into the mic. Screams of terror were heard as the plane sailed down faster and faster into the deep, dark ocean that was below them. It wasn't long before they had made impact with the cold water. Ash ripped off his seatbelt as water began to fill up the plane from the broken windows in the back. Luckily for Ash, he and his mom sat near the back so they had more time to try and figure out a plan to escape. Ash watched in terror as he saw the people in the front get forcefully stuck under water and couldn't do a thing about it. Their screams were muffled as the water muted them.
"Mom! Over here!" Ash yelled to his mom. His furry, yellow friend was standing on top of his trainer's head to try and stay as far away from the water as he could. Delia glanced at her son and made her way over.
"This is crazy!" She yelled, clearly worried that her and her son were probably going to die. She watched as her son commanded Pikachu to use iron tail on the window, causing it to shatter, shards of glass flew everywhere. The weight of it was causing the plane to sink quicker. Ash and his mom and his Pikachu had been able to crawl out of the small window, each of them getting pricked by the sharp glass that still remained on the window, but their adrenaline kept them going. Ash cursed himself for not bringing a water Pokémon and he knew the rain was too heavy for his Charizard to fly them anywhere. He couldn't even find an area for them to land on. Ash's heart began racing as he realized there was no way out.
After what felt like forever, Ash spotted a small wooden raft, although it was tiny and it was too small for both him and Delia to fit in together. Ash swam off to bring the raft to his mom and get her in, but he had no idea on how she would be saved, but he was willing to sacrifice himself if it meant his mom had a chance of survival. Through sheer willpower, Ash was able to move his body through the freezing temperatures of the water. He felt his lungs tighten up as the cold water began to take over his own body temperature, but he continued on until he reached the raft. The terrible storm continued on as the strong winds blew and the heavy rainfall continued it's downpour. Delia watched her son as she stayed afloat in the deep dark waters and watched him slowly return with what looked to be a small wooden raft. It was beaten up and had no paddles to move around and Delia felt her heat sink as she knew this was the end. She was going to stay behind so that Ash had a chance of returning to civilization.
"Mom! Get in this thing!" Ash yelled, trying to save his mom.
"N-no Ash, y-y-you need to save yourself!" Delia said, refusing to get into the raft.
"Mom please! Get in!" Ash pleaded as he felt tears come to his eyes as he watched his mom struggle to get her words out. He knew she would be gone soon if she didn't get on.
"I-I'ts t-to late A-Ashy...please, t-take it yourself and m-make it back to your friends….do whatever it takes...I love you…" Delia said as her words got quieter each time she spoke. She had soon turned pale and the tears that had built in Ash's eyes splashed into the water that he was in. He was screaming in anger and in sadness as he placed himself onto the metal sheet.
"Mom! No...NO!" Ash yelled as he saw his mom's skin turn pale and saw her slowly sink.. He looked around and saw there was no one else to save him. The plane was further into the ocean and only a piece of the tail could be seen sticking out of the deep water. It was a terrifying sight. Ash barely made his way into the small raft and laid himself down as his tears ran down his cheeks and splashed onto the old, waterboarded wood. He looked at his Pikachu who was staring at him with nothing but sorrow in his eyes. He cuddled up into Ash's arms, trying to give the trainer warmth, and also get warm himself. The strong and heavy winds pushed Ash towards an island in the near distance.
"I won't let your death be for nothing…I promise..." Ash muttered to himself. Ash and Pikachu stayed in their position for a couple of hours until they crashed into the beachfront of the island which was inhabited by very strong pokemon and a base that had a familiar large red "R" logo on it. Ash passed out from the cold and his pokemon did too. He never felt himself being picked up by someone's arms and taken into the vast forest that was on the island.
Current Day…
May had just finished doing her hair and had stopped by her Dad's gym to talk to him before she left for her day. She was often out and competing in coordinating events with Drew and wasn't home as often, so when she was in town she always loved to come talk to her father.
"Hey Dad! I just wanted to come by to say hello before I went out for the day!" May said sweetly to her father. The two of them were extremely close and other guys often found the man intimidating, not like it mattered though. May had Drew.
"Oh hey sweetie, how are you doing? Going out with Drew today?" Her father, Norman, asked.
"Yeah, we're going to meet up with Dawn and also Gary I think! After that I think me and Drew are going to be heading out to Johto again to compete in that new contest!" May said to her father. Norman gave a sad smile. He was slightly sad that his daughter was now 19 and grown and wasn't home as often, but he knew it was because she was growing up and that he would soon have to let go.
"Alright, well you two be safe! I'll be here in the gym if you ever need me sweetheart!" Norman said as he gave his daughter a fatherly hug. He watched as she walked towards the door and then turned back around to get back to his gym duties. He briefly stopped as he looked at a picture that he had hung up on his wall from years ago. It was a picture of him and Ash when Ash had first beat him.
Norman gave a frown at the picture. He couldn't believe his daughter's friend's life had been taken away so quickly. He had always liked Ash and had secretly wished May had gotten with him over Drew. Norman respected Drew, but he always found the green-haired trainer to be a bit snobby at times and it rubbed off on him in the wrong way.
"Oh my god May! You look so good!" A beautiful blue haired girl said to her best friend.
"Thank you Dawn! You look great yourself!" May said back to her friend. It had been over a year since they had seen each other since their lives had changed so much.
"Hey May, it's nice to see you again!" A brown haired boy said as he wrapped one arm around May, giving her a light hug.
"You too Gary! How's the gym?" May asked the young-adult. It was true, Gary had become the 8th gym leader a few years ago and was known as the strongest gym leader. Because of this, the indigo plateau had very few challengers since most of them couldn't get the 8th badge. This led to some trainers trying to sneak in and the league revoking their badges, forcing them to do their journey all over again.
Gary faked a yawn trying to imply that it was easy.
"Ah you know, just whooping ass every day, same old, same old…" Gary replied, causing Dawn to roll her eyes and caused Drew and May to chuckle. The group had quickly finished their small chatter and had headed into the restaurant that they had planned to dine at.
"Wow...this place is so fancy!" Dawn squealed as they entered the building. It was extremely spacious and there were ice sculptures of popular pokemon all over the place.
"Look at that!" Gary said as he pointed at an ice sculpture of a large salamence that was hung from the ceiling. Gary raised an eyebrow, curious as to how it didn't melt. He was taken out of his thoughts as he heard a waiter approach them.
"Ah, are you the table for four? Host is Gary Oak?" The waiter politely said in a fancy accent.
Gary gave a smile at the man. "That would be us!" He said.
"Ah follow me please!" The waiter said. He led them up to the second floor of the building which had no roof and allowed the current moonlight to beam down on the tables that they were seated at. The tables were painted in a wine-red manner giving it a very clean look and the floor was made up of dark marble. They all had to watch their step to not slip, especially Dawn and May since they both had heels on.
"We will be here to take your orders shortly, in the meantime enjoy the appetizers!" The waiter said as he took off.
"I'm so excited for the food, I'm starving!" May said, causing Dawn and Gary to laugh. Drew chuckled and rolled his eyes as he teased his girlfriend.
"You're always hungry!" He said in a joking tone.
May scoffed at her boyfriend, pretending to be offended by her boyfriend's joke.
"Are you calling me fat?!" She said back.
"I mean if we're talking about your ass...I mean." Drew said as he shrugged his shoulders. Gary bursted out into laughter, not expecting that response as May felt her face heat up at what Drew said. Dawn giggled as well as she saw how embarrassed her friend looked.
"Whatever…" May said back. As much as she didn't want to admit it, May knew she looked good and that she had a great body. Her mother was a model and May had inherited plenty of her genes and her father was also a very handsome man. May's body had grown very curvy over the past years and her chest had grown to a solid 36 C and she had an hourglass figure. Drew often caught many guys looking back at his girlfriend when they passed her to check out her behind, which Drew joked about, constantly saying "it was even better than the front of her" which May always rolled her eyes at. Many girls were jealous of the ocean blue eyes that May had and the silky long brown hair that went down her back.
The group soon ordered and they began talking like they had never left. May was extremely close with Dawn and pretty close with Gary too. Drew wasn't as close with either of them but he had developed a bit of a friendship with both of them since May visited them a lot. They talked about things like Gary's gym again, Dawn's contest and the journeys that May and Drew were going on.
"I feel so lucky to be friends with the Princess of Hoenn." Gary teased May as he finished the last of his food. May chuckled at Gary's statement. Back when she was younger she had gone on a large winning streak for her contests and soon became dubbed as "The Princess of Hoenn."
"Well...then I guess I'm lucky to be friends with the world's strongest Gym leader." May said back trying to get Gary back.
"Yeah I bet you are." Gary cockily said, causing May to roll her eyes, she had walked right into that one.
Soon the group had finished their food and paid the bill and made their way to their cars. They both had luxurious cars since all four of them had become quite successful in their career paths over the years. They talked for a bit more in the parking lot before Gary checked the time and told everyone that him and Dawn had to get going. He had a challenger coming by in the morning and he wanted to be ready.
"This was fun! Hopefully we'll see each other soon May!" Dawn said as she gave her friend a hug. She went over to the passenger door and got in, giving one final wave to Drew and May.
"I always miss them…" May said sadly as she watched Gary's car take off into the distance.
"Yeah...they're nice people." Drew lamely said as he unlocked his car for him and May to get in.
"Drew...how come you don't get along with my friends?" May questioned. She didn't know why the green haired trainer had such a hard time getting along with Dawn and Gary. May was always able to get along with Drew's friends and it was starting to make her mad that Drew still wasn't full friends with Dawn and Gary.
Drew sighed as he opened his mouth to answer.
"I just...they're not my kind of people. I have a hard time relating to people who don't have the same interests. Gary is a trainer and Dawn is a low class coordinator." Drew said, not realising how insulting he was sounding.
"Dawn is an excellent coordinator!" May barked back at her boyfriend, she couldn't believe how much of a jerk he could be sometimes. But Drew always gave his honest answer and couldn't stop himself from being a jerk.
"Yeah I guess, I just haven't heard of her winning any finals. Anyways, are you ready to head back?" Drew asked. His girlfriend just nodded her head, not wanting to speak to Drew at the moment. Drew took off back towards the expensive apartment they were sharing.
On the island…
A raven-haired young adult had just taken his hand off the trigger of the black pistol that he held in his hand. He loaded it with shells and quickly fired it five times at a target that was hung on a tree. It had multiple different circles to mark where you hit and in the dead center was a white mark. Ash quickly switched the pistol to his other hand and aimed at the target again, firing the pistol until the clip was empty. He went over to examine the target.
"Not one missed…" The black haired boy said. He looked up as he heard something in the distance. He quickly went into hiding in case it was a threat that he would have to neutralize. He stood up as he saw a small boat that was heading towards the island. Was he going to finally be saved? Ash thought to himself. He slowly approached where the boat had parked.
Two sailors and what looked to be the captain of the ship walked onto the island and spotted the boy.
"Someone else is here?" One of the sailors asked, surprised that a person could end up here.
"Go talk to him Drake…" The other sailor said to his captain. Drake, the captain nodded as he called out one of his pokemon. It was a blue and red dragon pokemon that let out a roar when it was called out.
"Follow me..Salamence." The man ordered in a stern tone. His pokemon nodded as it lifted itself with its large wings and followed behind its trainer, in case anything bad were to happen.
"Who are you?" Drake called out to the raven-haired boy.
Ash stayed silent for a bit before speaking up.
"What are you doing here? You need to get the hell off this island!" Drake yelled at Ash, unaware that Ash had spent 6 years here.
"My name is Ash...my plane crashed 6 years ago...I've been surviving here." Ash calmly said back, not feeling intimidated by the man, after all he had met much scarier people.
Drake's eyes widened as he connected the dots. "Oh my god…" he muttered, he couldn't believe this boy was still alive.
"Come with us! We'll take you back home!" Drake said as he motioned for Ash to follow him to the boat. Ash nodded and called his pokemon back to their balls. Drake had taken notice of how different Ash's pokemon were. They were all taller than their species and looked to be extremely strong, they gave exuded intimidating energy.
Soon Drake started up the boat and they took off back to the Hoenn League. Drake was going to take Ash to their pokemon center since they provided excellent health care there and he knew Ash might need it. He let one of the sailors take over the boat since he wanted to talk to Ash for a bit. He made his way to the lower floor of the boat and opened up the door to the cabin that Ash was sitting in. He was currently looking out of the window at the vast sea that they were in.
"Kid...how the HELL did you survive there?!" Drake said as he sat down. The pokemon league knew of this island and kept it private from the public. It was too dangerous for them to know the kind of business that went on there. They had been trying for ages to try and stop the evil business that went on over there, but the location of the island and the power of the organization there made it almost impossible.
"I had a mentor, his name was Red. He taught me everything I needed to know to survive, although I don't know where he is now. I've trained my pokemon to be tough enough to survive what's out there and trained myself to be strong enough. With a little bit of luck I was able to make it." Ash explained to the older man.
"You must know of the secret service then?" Drake asked Ash. Ash nodded back, confirming Drake's thoughts.
"I was informed of it when I had met Lance on the island when he tried to stop Team Rocket there. I was a part of it for 5 years on the island and I've departed with them since then." Ash explained. The Pokemon Secret Service was a service where the champions and a few of the elite four members would take on dangerous missions that were left unknown to the public, only the strongest of trainers were ever invited to be on it and Ash was one of three of them. The other being Red and another was one named Gold who had died while taking on a mission on Mt. Silver.
"Jesus, I'm sorry you had to see the world we really live in." Drake said. Ash gave a small chuckle at the man.
"I never imagined this is what it was like, but you can tell the service that this island is taken care of...Giovanni is dead." Ash told the dragon type trainer.
Welll, that is it for chapter 1.
I have a ton of other characters that I plan on introducing, but I wanted to focus on the ones in this chapter as the story will mainly revolve around them (well except for one of them).
I forgot to mention but this story will be rated M since there are going to be a couple of chapters that involve some intense topics.
I don't want to make Drew some huge asshole, but I want to set his character up to be a bit rude. Also, there will be small parts throughout the story that focus on what happened to Ash on the island. As you now know, Team Rocket has been occupying the island and they don't seem to be some pushover anymore. Now that Team Rocket has been put to rest, is Ash able to finally relax?
Please leave reviews, I'd like to know how I did and what you guys would like to see more of and less of! I hope you enjoyed it! Thank you.
