Note: I know Crisis is going on right now, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy New Justice's 4th Anniversary, can we? Set during the month after Leona's birth, but before Crisis started, and before Karry Universe's Clark was promoted, I present to you the very cozy, Pictures of the League.
Pictures of the League.
Rae smiled as she picked up her daughter. She had a diaper bag packed and over her shoulder, ready to leave.
"Where are you going?" Kara asked, coming into the doorway.
"I thought you were busy," Rae said as she rocked Leona.
"Your emotions were weird," Kara shrugged. "I decided to come and figure out what you were doing. Taking Leona on a field trip?"
"Just going to Karry," Rae said with a smile and kissed her wife on the cheek. "We'll be back."
"Have fun," Kara said as Rae ran off, telling Clarky to stay, which got a moan from the dog. Kara turned to Krypto and Clarky though. "She's up to something." Krypto barked as if agreeing.
-Karry Universe-
On Karry Universe, Kara and Barry were in the SuperFlash cave with Jesse, Caitlin, Ronnie, Michelle, and Cody. Michelle was in the section that used to be Cisco's, working on some of her new designs; she was selling clothes online and starting to make money from that with some notable social media influencers taking note – especially since Kara had agreed to wear one of the dresses she made at a recent social occasion.
The kids, Alura and Nora were on the floor with Garfield, the three playing and talking to each other.
"Well, this seems to be working out," Kara said, looking over the reports Ronnie had brought over; Ronnie being in charge of Little STAR, after all and was giving the Allens an update. "As for your request for more funding for this project, we'll let you know."
"Thanks," Ronnie started, but before he could say anything else, Gideon informed the room that a portal from New Justice was opening and then Rae came through a portal with Leona in her arms.
"Oh, good Ronnie," Rae smiled, confusing the group. "Makes this easy. Leona, go to Uncle Ronnie."
"What?" Ronnie said, but didn't have time to react as Leona was put in his lap. Ronnie putting an arm around her out of habit; Rae held up her cellphone and took a picture.
"Nice," Rae said as she looked at the photo she took and then took her daughter back. The infant cooing at the attention. "I'll be running around for a bit."
"Why did you…?" Barry asked, but Rae had already run off.
"What's up with your cousin Barry?" Jesse asked.
"Not a clue," Barry said.
"You going to run after her?" Jesse asked.
"I learned my lesson there. She's not going to do anything bad. Unless you want to try to catch her," Barry shrugged, and Jesse shook her head as the group went back to their business.
….
Clark was sitting in his home office with Lois there as well, he was looking over some of his older articles while Lois wrote.
"What's up?" Lois asked, taking a break from her own writing.
"Perry," Clark stated, Lois raising an eyebrow at this. "There's rumors he's retiring soon, so I was wondering–" but before he could go any further, there was a flash of light and the familiar speedster of Rae appeared before them.
"Um… Rae?" Clark asked, blinking at the speedster. "Does Barry know you're here?"
"Here on this Earth? Yes. Here in your office? I doubt it," Rae said making Clark frown and Lois chuckle. "Hey Leona. Time to meet your Uncle Clark."
"Uncle Clark?" Clark asked as the baby was given to him. "Oh yeah, yours and Kara's daughter. I…"
"Smile," Rae said, holding up her cellphone and taking a picture. "Let's do one without the glasses."
"What?" Clark asked, but didn't have time to react as his glasses were taken off and another picture was taken.
"Why do you even wear glasses at home?" Rae asked, but before Clark could even reply, Rae had moved on. "Well, that was brilliant – thanks, Clark," Rae said hugging him and Clark put one arm around her, keeping the baby in the other arm. Rae took Leona after that and ran off.
"Did that just happen?" Lois asked holding back a laugh.
"It did," Clark said blinking as he took back his glasses. "I think I should give Kara and Barry a call."
…
Oliver was in the Canary Cave with Laurel, Thea, JT, and Paula. The group had done an early morning capture of some escaped convicts and were just putting their weapons away – Laurel wanted to go get Quinn back from her father, who had agreed to babysit.
"Nice headquarters," they were surprised by the flash of a speedster and the voice; surprised enough that Oliver turned his bow and arrow at her and shot an arrow, only for it to be caught
"Watch the baby, Olly," Rae said as Leona cried out, Rae rocking her daughter as she dropped the arrow. Laurel gave her husband a glare as she realized there was an infant in their presence.
"I know you," Oliver said, blinking.
"It's Barry cousin," Laurel informed her husband, moving over to look at the baby.
"Oh, yeah the one from the other world," Oliver said. "You were at Amelia's wedding. What are you doing here?"
"Just running around with my daughter and getting pictures. Do you have a robotic arm?" Rae asked, seeing Oliver arm was not a normal arm.
"Yes," Oliver said.
"Can you hide it?" Rae asked, tilting her head. Oliver raised an eyebrow but put on the hologram that made it appear human.
"Good, Uncle Oliver time," Rae said.
"What?" Oliver asked, but took the baby that was handed to him and blinked as Rae took a couple of pictures.
"Nice Olly, and oh, Paula is here," Rae said transferring Leona from Oliver to Paula who had been laughing. Paula still had a smile on her face as Rae took the picture. "Nice one Paula. Hey is your sister around?"
The smile disappeared from Paula face. "No… she's dead," Paula said.
"Oh, I am sorry. Guess will have to go to a different Earth to find her. I think Prime has one," Rae said as she took her daughter. "Well thanks. Be more careful with the arrows Olly," and with a flash, Rae and her daughter were gone.
"Okay, I am starting to lose track of what's weird or not hanging out with you guys," JT stated. "I mean, the first time I was with you guys I ended up kidnapped by a world controlled by Nazis and that was treated like any other Sunday."
"It was Thanksgiving. It was a Thursday," Thea corrected her boyfriend.
"My point, that was weird, right?" JT asked, pointing at where Rae had been.
"Yes," everyone said together.
"I think we should call Kara and Barry," Laurel sighed.
…
Diana was out as Wonder Woman with Donna, fighting some meta humans when they were surprised by a flash of light – the two meta humans were on their butts in moments and Diana saw the lightning trail run up a building. Diana and Donna quickly made sure the meta humans were secure before going up to follow the speedster, thinking it was Barry.
"Flash," Diana started, but paused when she saw the female with the diaper bag and laughing baby in her hands.
"Just like her mamas," Rae said. "Loves taking out the bad guys."
"You're familiar," Diana said, trying to figure out where she knew Rae from.
"It's Barry's cousin. Remember the young one we had who died?" Donna added to her sister. "I will bet this is New Justice's version."
"Correct, Wonder Girl," Rae said with a smile. "Now, Wonder Woman, hold Leona for a second."
"Why?" Diana asked.
"I think that's what we would all like to know," Kara's voice spoke, and Kara was floating above them with Barry came running up.
"How did you know where I was?" Rae asked the two, surprised.
"You left a pattern," Barry said. "Ronnie, Clark, Oliver, Paula. It took us a bit to realize what they all had in common that the people you ignored didn't have. They are all members of your dead League."
"Although you did ignore Thea, which threw us off for a moment until Barry remembered you now have a stranded Thea back home," Kara added.
"I was proud I remembered that," Barry said with a smile. "But it became obvious you were going to members of your old League."
"So, we got to thinking, who did we know who was in your former League that we have on this Earth? The answer came to Diana," Kara completed for her husband as she landed her feet on the building's roof. "The question is, why are you taking pictures of Leona with alternates of your dead League?"
"Kara and myself started going through old photos," Rae started. "We wanted to make albums of everyone. I started looking through pictures I have of my old League and while I have pictures it's not as many as I would like, we never even did a group photo together and I got thinking about if they were alive, how many pictures of them with Leona would be taken. It ate at me a little and I figured while I couldn't get them with Leona, I could get their alternates," Rae explained.
For a moment no one talked.
"Next time, let us in on why you're interrupting our own League. Wonder Woman, hold Leona," Kara instructed.
"Yeah," Diana said, figuring that was coming and took the little infant from her mother who went to take pictures.
"Thanks," Rae said with a smile as she took her daughter back.
"But let us help you now," Barry added. "We can make this easier. Bring you to them."
"No," Kara said, cutting off anything Rae was about to say, and a smirk appeared on Barry's face, hearing his wife's thoughts. "We'll bring them to you. And I think it's high time for a group picture."
"Seriously?" Rae asked, stunned. She hadn't expected that.
"Yes," Kara said with a nod.
"Guess I should head to STAR," Diana sighed, knowing better than to argue.
….
After Rae had made a list of who was in her old League for Kara and Barry the couple called everyone they had. When they arrived, Rae got a photo of them with Leona.
"Okay so we got a Thea, Oliver, Clark, Red Tornado, Dick, Crystal, Diana, John Stewart, and Paula from here," Barry said.
"Unfortunately, William won't pretend to be Roy," Kara stated; their Roy clone had refused when he heard the picture would be him pretending to be an alternate Roy. "And our Ronnie is no longer combined with Martin, so we need to find that combination – oh, and our Barbra is in a wheelchair."
"And Hal Jordan is on Titania and J'onn on Mars. Would be easier to grab their alternates from another world than getting them here," Barry added for Rae.
"Just one question: Courtney Whitmore, the only version of her we know was alive in World War 2," Kara said, remembering Amaya and the Justice Society picture she had shown them.
"Same one," Rae said with a nod as she took back Leona. "It was Rip Hunter protecting a Spear of Destiny thing. Long story. She would be hard to get. There's a version of her on Old Justice but I rather not go there."
"Why?" Barry asked.
"Well, it's a world just like mine, only you died when we were young and never killed the Justice League, but the Justice League was falling apart. Another long story short, me and my alternate…" Rae started, but Barry held up a hand to stop her.
"No more explanation needed," Barry said with a nod. "Well, one existed in our past. It's too dangerous for us to go get her but a Time Master could."
"You can find Rip Hunter?" Rae asked with a raised eyebrow as she rocked Leona.
"I'm sure he will come if we run to the 31st century," Barry said with a smirk.
"Long run," Rae said raising an eyebrow. "Why the 31st century?"
"We can pick up our Mon to be in the photo as well," Barry said.
"Why is your Mon in the 31st century?" Rae asked.
"Probably a longer story than your thing with Old Justice," Barry said, turning to Kara and handing her the list. "Call Prime and Mutant. See who they can get in and then we can get the Vibes to grab anyone else."
"Got it," Kara said with a nod.
"Coming, Rae?" Barry asked.
"Sure, Aunt Kara, you mind watching Leona?" Rae asked and Kara smiled, taking the girl. Rae giving her daughter a kiss. "Make sure to get a picture of her with any alternates that show up." Kara gave a nod as the speedster ran off.
"Caitlin!" Kara called over. Caitlin was watching Alura, Nora, Garfield, Jenny, Romana, and Star. Along with Morgan, who was playing with all of them. "Take Leona while I make the phone calls. She might also need a diaper change."
"Wait, what?" Caitlin asked as she was handed Leona and Kara took out her phone and walked away. "I am officially the multiverse nanny..." Caitlin sighed, but had to smile though as she looked down Leona.
….
In the 31st Century of Karry Universe, Mon, Imra, and Cisco were in the superhero headquarters, Cisco was showing something new he had invented.
"Hey there," the group was shocked by the flash but more shocked by who it was – they had expected their speedster, XS, not Barry.
"What's your Frankie doing in the 31st century?" Rae asked, as she too appeared.
"Another long story," Barry said. "That was a long run. Glad I used the Waverider and jump ship last time."
"Barry?" Cisco asked. "Rae? I guess you're not here to play videogames."
"Sorry Cisco," Barry said with a nod. "I don't do that run to play videogames."
"Why are you here?" Imra asked.
"The Waverider is docking," the voice of Gideon said before Barry could answer but Barry smirked anyway.
"To get his attention," Barry said as Rip Hunter and his wife Miranda came out of the Waverider and entered the headquarters.
"What exactly do you think you're doing?! Leaving your timeline and running here?" Rip asked. "With New Justice Rae!" Rae gave a wave at that. "Do you realize the implications to both words' timelines this would create?"
"Oh, calm down, I have time traveled before," Barry said, glad this had worked. Rip hadn't come when he had done his time traveling adventure with his young Rae. "See, we're getting all the alternates of Rae's former League together to do a group photo, but we need Courtney Whitmore."
"You want me to take Stargirl from her time for a group picture?" Rip asked, blinking at this. "I won't. There isn't even a good place to take her."
"Waverider Gideon?" Barry said, knowing the A.I. had been listening it and that it also answered to him.
"Hello creator," Gideon's voice spoke. "I have located the perfect moment to remove Courtney Whitmore from her time period and already have the course plotted. Ready to go once everyone comes on board."
"See, Gideon took care of it," Barry said with a smile. "Come on Mon, you're coming. We need you too."
"Huh?" Mon asked.
"Of course, my League had Valor in it. Well, the first one. The second one is your clone, but he's a bit younger than he should be and also doesn't have that sexy beard," Rae said with a playful wink, and Mon blinked as Rae grabbed him, and they went into the Waverider.
"What has happened?" Rip Hunter asked, turning to his wife.
"I think we're going to get Stargirl," Miranda said with a chuckle. "You can come or stay here, and I will take care of it." Miranda turned around to re-enter the ship.
"Fine," Rip said turning around and entering the ship. "Just as long as this doesn't delay Kara's pregnancy yet again…" he muttered to himself, only heard by his wife who actually laughed at this one.
As the ship left, Imra and Cisco looked at one another. "What just happened?" Imra asked, a bit confused.
"Ah, it's Kara and Barry," Cisco shrugged. "This type of stuff is commonplace in the 21st century."
…
The Waverider landed, and cloaked, above STAR Labs, where everyone was gathered for the picture, with Barry and Rae coming out along with Courtney Whitmore and Mon. Courtney had been confused over the idea of traveling to the future to do a group photo, but had agreed to it in the end.
"Daddy!" Morgan voiced yelled as they walked into Labs; Mon was attacked in a hug.
"Hi there," Mon said, and Clark gave him a chuckle and wave.
"Big Me" Rae was surprised by her Splitsville counterpart being present too.
"Little Me, what are you doing here?" Big Rae asked, putting an arm around her younger counterpart. The only one she truly got on with.
"Well, you needed an Alan Scott," Little Rae explained with a smile. "Him and my dad are old friends," Little Rae pointed behind her, where Alan Scott was. Kara and Caitlin came up with Leona at this.
"Courtney," Kara said. "Might want to hold Leona for a moment. You're the last photo we need with her."
"I am choosing not to question this," Courtney said, taking the baby as Kara took a photo of them, and then Rae took her daughter back. Leona was giggling and having a good time it seemed.
"So, you got everyone?" Rae aske surprised.
"Prime had Roy, Nate, Helena, and Mari as friends of theirs – they also managed to convince their Bruce and Barbra who are Batman and Batgirl to come. My understanding was that was a little more difficult as they're not in their JSA," Kara said, and Rae tried not to chuckle at that. "Mutant kicked in the Hawks and Hal Jordan while SuperEarth sent our Constantine back here for a photo along with Giovanni Zatara and J'onn J'onzz."
"That's fun to say: J'onn J'onzz," Barry spoke up, repeating the name again before Rae hit him on the arm.
"The vibes went looking for the rest," Caitlin spoke up. "As your younger self said, we got Alan from Splitsville – Vibe Junior said you would like that. Hero Earth had Firehawk and Aquaman. Blue sent over a Captain Marvel, or Shazam, he goes by both. The hardest to find was a combo of Ronnie and Martin as Firestorm, which we got from Sister Earth."
"Everyone is ready to take the picture," Kara concluded with a smile.
"One thing," Rae said as she kissed Leona and gave her to Barry. Then lightning appeared around her and her suit changed to look exactly as it did when they first met her. A simpler design with the lightning bolt on it. Savitar had ruined the original one, but that was before she could create matter from the Speed Force. "If we're doing this it has to be authentic."
Kara gave a smile as they called to everyone to gather around. Rae set them up, putting Batman, Diana, and Clark in the front and having several people floating above; Kara calling out to see if anyone was blocked. It took a bit to get everyone in the right place. Kara took several pictures when they were done.
"I think that's good," Kara said. "Let us know?" Rae looked at the photos and smiled at the pictures.
"Yeah, we're good," Rae said with a nod.
"Okay, Vibes you can start sending everyone home," Kara called to the two Vibes, who gave a nod; Bruce was noticeably muttering darkly, but Barbra as Batgirl gave him a scolding.
"I'll come over to cook soon," Little Rae said to Big Rae, who gave a smile as she left.
Soon the room emptied of the multiverse doubles who used the Vibes to get back to their own location, and when the room was quieter, Rae gave Kara and Barry a hug.
"Thank you," Rae stated. "I would never have thought of actually getting everyone together for a photo."
"How did it feel having your old League present, albeit not themselves?" Barry had to ask.
"Not bad. I mean, I saw them all before on Old Justice, and on various worlds so I'm kind of used to it now," Rae stated, canoodling her daughter. "But I wouldn't trade my new League for them."
"Quite right too," Barry stated as Rae said her goodbyes to leave.
"That felt good to do," Kara said, sharing a look with her husband.
"You went through so much trouble getting her a picture with her old League. It's not like we have ever done a group picture," Diana spoke up.
"You know, you're right," Kara said, sending a thought to Barry who agreed. "If you're in our Justice League stay put. We'll call over everyone else."
"You had to put your foot in your mouth," Clark said to Diana, who had to laugh at that.
"It'll make a ton of publicity for the League and Hero Corp," Caitlin spoke up, smirking to herself at this, "if Kara and Barry choose to release the picture."
"So long as there's a shot with everyone in their costumes to release," Jesse pointed out, to a nod from Caitlin at this.
"Anyway, I'll be taking Mon and Courtney back," Rip groaned, calling the two over to him.
"Bye daddy," Morgan said sadly.
"Always nice to see you," Mon said, giving the boy a smile as he left.
…
A few days later, Rae had left Leona with her aunt and uncle and had called everyone in her League to Watchtower.
"What's going on?" Laurel asked as Rae pointed to the picture the old League now hanging on a wall. "Wow, nice group photo. How have we never seen this before?"
"Because we never did a group photo," it was Red Tornado who commented. Rae had also made sure to get an image without Leona in it, which was the one now hanging on the wall.
"It's multiverse alternates," Rae explained "I did this on Karry the other day. And it made me think: I don't want to one day regret we never did a group photo. We already lost a couple of people, so, I hired photographer who's waiting in front of the Hall of Justice. We're doing this today."
No one argued as a zap tunnel to the Hall of Justice was opened. "So that explains the trip to Karry," Kara said when was only her, Rae, and the dogs in Watchtower now. "And the secrets behind it. But why did you bring Leona?"
Rae took a photo album that was resting there out and opened the first page. It was a photo of Leona with Clark that Kara had to stare at for a moment. "Every member of the old League with her. We can look at it more later. For now, a group photo awaits," Rae said.
"And perhaps later, we can get Caitlin's Daphne to take a photo of us all with Leona here too, old and new League," Kara stated, Rae grinning a the two went through to take a photo with their League.
Post Chapter Note: This was an idea for the opening chapter of season 5, but it worked well as an anniversary chapter – it also worked well for Karry, too, for those who were disappointed by that recent anniversary chapter. I hope you enjoyed.
