This takes place after the end of Pokemon Sun and Moon Episode 146 - "Thank You, Alola". Just as Ash leaves the Alolan region, Kukui and Burnet are wondering what are they going to do; without their "Alolan" son. It will be a rough time for them, as they both admit that they truly miss Ash, and want him to be a permanent member of their family.
(It is a prequel to "Ash Alolan Family Surprise)
Chapter 1: Missing our Alolan Son
As Ash would finally leave the Alolan region, with his friends wishing him the best; Burnet and Kukui would look on, as they wonder what will happen now. Their happy little home will be without the energetic lad to keep their spirits up. Burnet looked at Kukui, while wiping a tear from her eye. "There he goes, off on a new adventure." She tried to keep a smile on her face, however, she was like a mother, seeing her son leave the nest. She's worried he'll never return to them. Kukui would hug her, as he could relate to the pain she's experiencing. "Don't worry love, he'll be back. That Ash will return, I know he will." Burnet smiled, as she hugged him back. Although she couldn't tell from Kukui, as he had a good poker face. In reality, he didn't want to cry, or sound blubbery, as he lost someone that was like him...almost like his kid. The two would get into their red jeep and head on home. On the ride home, as they would try and not think about Ash. They would stop for a moment, and they glance at a kid playing with his Rockruff. Kukui wiped a tear, as that kid reminded of Ash, when he first arrived, and was having fun with Rockruff. Burnet glanced over and saw that vulnerable side of Kukui; and knew she wasn't the only one that missed him badly. "You okay sweetie?" She asked him, while poking his arm. He shook out of that little trance as he saw her and nodded. "I'm sorry, just thinking of what to make for dinner." As he would drive off, She grinned as she knew he was lying about dinner. At least she could take comfort in knowing that she'll have someone to share the pain with.
Once the two would arrive home, Ash's Alolan pokemon: Lycanroc, MelMetal, Incineroar, and a sleeping Rowlet would greet and hug Burnet and Kukui; knowing they will be there to take care of them, since Ash has left the region. It would be the comfort needed to put them at ease, but that would be for a brief moment. In the middle of the night, Burnet felt something odd, and woke up and saw on her other side of the bed, a missing Kukui. Naturally she freaked out, thinking the worst, and would search around the house in her nightgown. She went upstairs and couldn't help but smile, to see Kukui resting in Ash's former room. He was sleeping along with the other pokemon, as she thought to herself. "You always stay cool under pressure. But your actions say otherwise. I'm glad you feel the same way I do." She nodded to herself as she would snuggle up barely onto the other side. When the pokemon saw her try to snuggle up to her hubby, they gave her the space, so the two can have their little slumber. Try as they might, they truly miss their Alolan Son. In the morning, Kukui woke up in a panic, as he realized he wasn't in his bedroom. "Burnet!" He looked about went downstairs to see his beloved making breakfast. He couldn't believe that she would be up before him. But thankfully there was no school during summer vacation. Burnet chuckled as she would walk over and kiss him on the cheek. "Good morning love. You were so peaceful, I couldn't wake you up. Reminds me of a certain someone that we knew." Kukui knew he couldn't hide the fact for much longer. He smiled as he hugged her. "You knew, didn't you? I guess you were there to check up on me?" Burnet nodded and replied. "I woke up and you were missing. So I thought of the worst, but breathed a sigh of relief when you were in your son's room." When Kukui heard son, he broke down and started to cry on her shoulder. "Why didn't we tell him sooner. Why didn't we ask him, before he left Alola?" She shook her head patting him on the back gently. "Believe me, I had the same questions like you did. I wanted to see him one more time. To tell him that we love him as parents. I just hope he'll be okay. I just hope he'll come back soon." She nearly teared up just saying those things. Clearly it was a different vibe without Ash's positive energy around.
The day would soon go on like normal. Though nothing was normal in the house. Rowlet would fly about and run into a lot of stuff, before going back to sleep. MelMetal would be working out by lifting Kukui's Jeep. And Lycanroc would be enjoying the sun by relaxing and stretching out. However, by the beach, Kukui and his Incineroar were doing some meditation, where Ash's Incineroar would approach them, and soon would meditate in front of Kukui's Incineroar. Kukui got up and headed from a safe distance, as he could tell the two were going to finally have that battle, that was meant to be in the exhibition match. But Kukui realized both Incineroar's are similar, so he had an idea. "Incineroar" Kukui's Incineroar would respond to him and approached him. "Inci.." Kukui would give him an arm band, not for luck. But to ensure he knows which one is his. "At least I know who you are." His Incineroar glared, but nodded, considering who he was going up against. Once Kukui stepped back, the two Incineroars would greet each other with respect, before going at it with their fighting. It was neck and neck, both Incineroars giving it their all. Kukui watched, as he knew something was missing. He knew Ash would be there to root his Incineroar on. But Ash's Incineroar was like him. Intense, full of fire and energy. But more importantly, the same never give up attitude that just reminds of Ash. Kukui smiled, before getting a tap on his shoulder. He turned around and saw Burnet with a picnic basket. He smiled as he couldn't help but hug her. Couldn't let me watch the match alone, right?" She shook her head no, but had a grin on her face. "Just like exhibition match huh?" Kukui nodded, but replied. "It's true. But just doesn't feel right. Just doesn't seem like the exhibition match." Burnet knew what he meant. "I know hun, but you have to admit, this is quite a workout session. To think, your Incineroar finally has an opponent that is at his level." Kukui realized and nodded. Though at least the arm band was a relief. Otherwise, it would have been a problem telling which was his. Both Incineroars were going at it like crazy, but Kukui would stop the match, as he waved some food for them. "Incineroars, time for a break!" Though it was hard for the two to admit they were hungry, their stomachs rumbling was a good sign. They laughed it off, as they would head and bowed to Kukui, before heading to the picnic area. Burnet and Kukui would see the pokemon eat like one big family; Burnet would simply hug her love, as she had a lot on her mind. But for now, it was just like home.
That night, around midnight, Burnet was outside, gazing at the full moon. Kukui, who couldn't sleep either walked up to her, hugging her. "Making a wish to the moon?" He spoke to her, as she would turn around and smiled. "Lets start a family Kukui." That threw him for a loop. To suggest that he would end up as a father was a bit of a stretch. However, it's not like that he wasn't prepared for fatherhood. Just not so soon, especially at this point. "Are you sure about this? I mean I don't want to interfere with your work and..." She placed her finger on his lips gently, as she would look into his eyes. "I understand everything. And besides, we were parents once, and we can be again. At least with a child of our own." Kukui looked into her eyes, before rubbing her cheeks gently. "What if Ash returns? What will he say?" Burnet kissed his lips gently and replied. "Then he'll be the big brother to our child." Kukui knew there was no turning back, but would kiss her lips gently in kind. "Whatever happens, we shall be together through all of this." Burnet smiled and gave him a hug, before the two would be inside. From there, their journey to becoming a family would start, under the Alolan moon.
End of Chapter 1
[] Trying not to go too deep into what they were going through, when Ash left Alolan. There will be more chapters, going through Burnet's pregnancy, some emotional grief, and the quick reunion of their Alolan son. I'll try to update weekly, already finished last two chapters lol. But that's more of prior to Ash's Alolan Family Surprise. []
