Summary: Jacob imprints on you but tries to ignore it because of his love for Bella. I have changed a few things. Leah and Sam are still together. Harry did not die of a heart attack. Harry didn't die at all. But Seth and Leah still phased, just a little later than they originally did in the books.
Imprinting was stupid. At least that's what Jacob had decided to tell himself. He hated everything there was to hate about it. He hated that he didn't get the choice. He hated that it wasn't Bella. He hated that it was you. Not that he had anything against you, he probably actually would have enjoyed it. But, he was in love with Bella swan.
You could tell that your friendship with Jacob has shifted. You felt a pull towards him that you couldn't explain. You didn't want to be overbearing but you wanted to hang out with him. Wanted to know what was going on and why all of a sudden he was ignoring you.
Being related to the Clearwaters didn't help him. He hated that it was one of Leah's close family. He hated that Leah was in his head all the time screaming at him to explain it to you or she would. So Leah storming into your house after you tried calling Jacob for the 50th time didn't surprise Jacob in the slightest. Hell it would be easier if Leah told you.
"Have you heard from Jacob?" She questioned.
"No. He won't answer my calls." You frowned looking down at your phone. No missed calls. No texts.
She sat you down and explained everything. Part of you finally understood why you had such a pull towards him. The other part of you wondered why he was avoiding you.
"He wants to be with Bella swan." Leah said. "He's ignoring the imprint." You couldn't help but feel rejected. It actually felt like someone was stabbing you in the chest. You had a connection to him. Felt everything he felt. And somehow you couldn't be upset.
"So what do I do?" Leah knew that this was going to end badly. Bella Swan was to marry Edward Cullen in a few short months. But Jacob still had his hooks. He still thought that Bella would choose him at the end of the day.
"I don't know." Leah shrugged looking at you with sad eyes. You gave her the same look, feeling defeated. Your next question made Leah regret ever saying anything.
"Will I ever be happy?" It caught Leah by surprise. She wasn't sure. The imprint was for life. No matter how hard Jacob fought it. You would always have a longing feeling. Always feel like your life wasn't complete. Leah didn't want to tell you that though. So she stayed quiet instead.
Within the next coming weeks you had tried to contact Jacob a bunch of times. You even tried calling Charlie Swan to see if Jacob was there. Nothing.
Leah had been coming around a lot more often. Helping you through a heartbreak that felt more like being stabbed to death every second. It was hard to focus when your every thought was Jacob. What he was doing. If he was sleeping and eating enough. If he was hanging out with Bella. If he was spending time with his dad. Wondering if he was thinking of you.
Leah offered to take you to the bonfire. She claimed Jacob would be there and maybe you could talk to him. See where his head was at. So you made brownies. Just a little undercooked like how he liked them.
The fire was blazing high into the sky by the time you got there. Everyone was sitting around on the logs. Eating. Telling stories. Of course all of Jacob's friends were there. They were even more shocked to see you. You set the brownies down on the picnic table before moving closer to the circle. The only open seat was next to Embry who was trying to roast a marshmallow.
The hair on your neck stood as someone approached the group. The pull suddenly became 100% stronger and your head automatically turned to your imprint, who was holding hands with Bella as they joined the group.
Stabbing. It was back. Not that it ever really went away but seeing his hand in someone else's made you burn with jealousy. You brought your knees closer to your chest, staring into the fire.
Bella kindly greeted the group. I'm sure Jacob didn't tell her that he had an imprint either. Jacob pushed Seth and quil out of the way so that Bella could sit. The tension in the group could be cut with a knife. Bella easily talked with Emily but everyone else noticed the tension between you and Jacob. It was hard to miss.
"I made brownies for you." You tried to get Jacobs attention.
"Cool." Was all he said. You glanced at Leah who seemed like she wanted to rip his head off. You glanced towards Embry who was back to trying to roast his marshmallow.
"Can we talk?" You asked Jacob. It would be nice to get some answers even though you don't know what to ask.
"No thank you." He answered. "Why are you even here?" Bella seemed shocked that Jacob could talk to you like that. She even placed her hand on his knee instantly making you jealous that she was touching him.
"Leah invited me." You answered. The group, who had all been in their own conversations stopped, listening to the two of you. "Thought you might actually accept what is and talk to me."
"I will never accept that." He hissed at you. "Get over it." And even though you wanted to hate him. You couldn't.
"That's enough, Jacob." Sam's alpha voice drifted from the other side of the fire. You tucked your hands into your sleeves wanting to hide from the world. From everyone's eyes. From Jacobs glares. From Bella's confused looks.
The next week you decided to go talk to Billy. Billy was part of the council and could maybe help you get Jacob to listen to you. Billy thankfully sat with you and listened to all of your concerns.
"Can I break the imprint somehow?" You asked. It was hard enough knowing that Jacob wanted nothing to do with you, it was even more difficult that you felt this strange need to protect him. He was off somewhere with Bella, trying to convince her to pick him.
"It's never been done before." Billy sadly answered. You were only 17. You still had your entire life to figure things out. Billy reminded you of just how young both you and Jacob were. It sucked having your soulmate already picked out by the time you were 17. Neither of you were mature enough for the relationship. With how Jacob was treating you, you couldn't see how you would ever agree to being with him.
Shit was about to the hit fan though. Because Jacob came in through the backdoor to find you, sitting at the table with his father.
"What's going on here?" He asked. He looked from you to his dad. "Please don't gang up on me." His words made you chuckle. You would never force anything on Jacob. If he didn't want you around anymore, you would try your hardest to not be around. Of course you wanted to be around him. You wanted him to want you the way you wanted him. This was the most intense "crush" you've ever had and everyone knew. Everyone also knew that Jacob was rejecting it.
"Just seeing if your dad knows any way I could break the imprint. So you wouldn't have to deal with me." You shrugged looking down at the table.
"Is that possible?" He asked.
"It has never happened before." Billy confirmed. Jacob sighed. Of course he never ever wanted to hurt you. But he couldn't stand the thought of imprinting. You and Jacob had known each other since you were kids. Gone to school together. Went to Spaghetti Saturday's every week at the Clearwater's. Of course things have changed since then. Leah was with Sam most of the time. Although they sometimes came to dinner. Of course Jacob rarely came to those dinner's now that Bella was around. It was mostly just you and Seth. On the one time Bella was actually there, Edward called right before dinner and she left. Then Jacob left right after.
You wanted Jacob to be happy. You assumed he wanted the same thing for you. You thought that you could be happy together but seeing the way he was acting and how he was treating you, you would never settle for him.
"The imprinting thing-" You started to say, glancing at Jacob who rolled his eyes and leaned against the counter. "We can just be friends." You shook your head. That was what the imprint was all about right? He could be whatever you needed him to be. Friend, brother, boyfriend. If you never put a label on it, the feeling would go away right?
"What happens when Bella marries Edward, Jacob? They're engaged to be married. Charlie seems to think it'll be a lot sooner than later." Billy chimed in. You wanted to know the answer to that too. Would he come running to you the second Bella was changed into a vampire? It was something that everyone knew was going to happen. Besides Charlie of course. Charlie had no idea about all the supernatural beings that were in his own town and the town over. Pretty sure he would have a heart attack the second he found out. "She has made it clear that she is to become one of them." Billy said.
Jacob began to shake. Bella becoming a vampire had always been a sensitive topic. But she never really hid the fact that she wanted to be like them. Jacob had come to your house in the middle of the night in a rage when he found that out. Of course at that point you didn't know you were imprints and that's why you were the first person he came to.
"I'm going to try to stop her." He answered. Billy couldn't help but shake his head and look at his son. How naive. Billy knew that Bella was never going to change her mind. He knew the second that the Cullen's came back to town that Bella would be going with them the next time they left.
"Jacob-"
"You have no say in it."
"You've never even given me a chance." You shouted standing up from the table. "You have your head so far up her ass you can chill with Edward!" Billy couldn't help but laugh but Jacob was pissed. You quickly grabbed your bag and headed for the front door. Before you could get there, Jacob grabbed your wrist.
"You deserve better. I never wanted us to be together because of an imprint. I wanted it to be natural."
"Well maybe if you tried it would be." You pulled away from him and opened the front door.
"For what it's worth, I've always had a crush on you." He said. You weren't sure if he was only saying it to make you feel better or if he was serious.
"Just not a bigger one than Bella." You rushed to your car and he didn't follow. He knew you needed time to yourself.
But your time alone didn't last long but only five minutes after entering your bedroom, the door opened and Jacob was standing there.
"You're right." He said. His face had finally become soft. A face you hadn't seen in a long time. "But." You knew it was coming. "I'm not over Bella. I probably never will be. You deserve better than that."
"You haven't tried to love anyone else. You won't even look me in the eye." As you said it his eyes were roaming the room. "What about in a year. When they're married, she's a vampire, they move away, you'll be alone. You're fighting for a girl who will never be yours." His face contorted. He knew you were right, but it was so hard to admit it.
"You still deserve someone who fully is in it for you. I'm not that guy." You shook your head.
"Don't you want to be happy?" The words left your mouth before you could think. You knew that he was unhappy. That all he had wanted since Bella moved to Forks was for Bella to want him back. And maybe if Edward had not pursued Bella, this wouldn't be happening. If vampires never came to town, Jacob would have never phased and he would have never imprinted.
"I am happy."
"No you're not. Jake, I may be young and not know much about love but this isn't love. She loves Edward." Your words made his heart sink. He didn't want to admit it.
"You're not listening to me." He sighed moving to sit on your bed. You stood in front of him. "I know that the imprint says that we should be together. Everything in my body is telling me to be with you. But I still have feelings for her. And until those go away, I can't be with you."
"Are they ever going to go away?" You wouldn't wait for him forever. Eventually you were going to want to get married and have kids.
"I'm working on it." He seemed to be working on it a lot lately. "Please just, give me time." He sighed looking up at you.
"I'll give you as much time as you need." Bella was getting married. The ring had been placed on her finger and hadn't left in three weeks. From what you had heard around town, the wedding would be in August. Only two months away. Jacob knew that Bella would never choose him. He just sorta hoped that she would change her mind.
The invitation coming in the mail was what really set Jacob off. He stormed out of his house, running into the woods, straight for your house. He had been hanging out with you more often but every time you tried to touch him, he moved away. Any time you wanted to cuddle to watch a movie, he moved to the recliner.
"What's wrong?" You asked when he came barging in the front door. You hadn't gotten the mail yet. You weren't sure if you would be getting an invitation at all. He held it out to you. Bella and Edward were really going through with a wedding.
"She's really doing it." You frowned at the piece of paper in your hands and then looked back up at him.
"Are you gonna go?" You questioned. He paced the kitchen while you watched him. You wanted nothing more than to wrap him in your arms and comfort him but knew the second you tried that he would pull away.
You hated how much you were drawn to him. How much you wanted to help him. How much you just wanted him to be happy. He was doing everything in his power to make sure that you never touched so that the imprint wouldn't be ten times harder to break. Of course Billy still thought he was nuts.
"Let's get out of here." He rushed. You looked at him bewildered.
"What?" You asked. Your parents liked Jacob. Had known Billy and his family for generations. But you weren't so sure that they would just let you leave with Jacob and never come back.
"Let's just go on a road trip." He said. "Get some distance." A road trip would be fun. Maybe it would be good for him to get away from Bella. Maybe it could build your relationship and he would finally realize that you were amazing. But, you didn't want to be second best in his eyes.
"We can't just leave. We have no money." You sighed. You had some money in savings but it was for a new car or an apartment or maybe even college.
"I have some money saved. Please." He begged. It was hard to say no to him. He looked you in the eye, his eyes pleading with you. You knew he needed to get out of this little town. He needed to get away from the girl who was never going to love him the way he loved her.
"Let me just pack a bag." You said hurrying up the stairs to your room. You grabbed a suitcase and quickly shoved things inside it. You grabbed your charger and deodorant before heading back down the stairs to Jake. You scribbled a note for your parents before grabbing your keys. You handed them to him before heading to the car. You got your suitcase into the trunk before getting in the passenger seat. He had already gotten the car started and you barely had your buckle on before he took off down the street.
His arm was resting so close to yours that it heated your entire body. You could feel the electric current before looking at him. He was looking right at the road.
"Wanna listen to music?" You asked, reaching to turn it on.
"Sure." He answered. You changed it to the station you liked and leaned back. You wanted nothing more than to reach across and grab his hand. To comfort him. "Let me know when you're hungry and we'll stop."
Road tripping with Jacob was amazing. He stopped along the way so much to just sit and admire nature. You were somewhere in Oregon when your parents called to check on you. You were surprised that they weren't that mad that you left. They were just concerned that you had no money. They transferred some to your account which thankfully paid for gas and food.
"What are you gonna do?" You asked him as you sat on a rock looking over a lake.
"I don't know." He sighed looking at you. "I know she doesn't like me that way. I just wish she would you know?" You nodded. You knew exactly how he was feeling because that's how you felt for him. "And I know that I could easily be with you. I could totally see myself with you, I just wanna get over her first. You deserve someone who has their full attention."
"I don't want to be second best. I don't want you to settle for me because you can't have her."
"I will never settle for you." He commented. "I will be on the same level as you. Just give me some time. And half the time I don't even think it's because I love her. I just don't want her to be a vampire. I'm trying to stop her but-"
"It's not possible." You finished for him.
"Which is so god damn stupid of her." You reached out to rub his back and for the first time in weeks, he didn't pull away. And he leaned into you. "I hate that you have to comfort me about this."
"I don't mind." You smiled. "We were always friends." You commented further. The heat coming from his body warmed your hand. You two sat there together until the sun went down. He looked over at you. "I'm hungry."
"Let's start heading home. I'll get you something to eat." He commented standing and helping you off the rock. You got back into the car, he turned the car around and headed back down the street you came. He pulled up to a small diner that you had both seen when you came down the street. He got out and you followed. He held the door open for you as you stepped inside.
"Sit anywhere you like." A friendly woman with light brown hair greeted you. Jacob walked over to a table in the back and sat down. You sat across from him and picked up the menu that was already placed on the table. He was tapping his finger's on the table while looking at you.
"What?" You asked, placing the menu down and folding your hands over it. "What's on your mind?"
"I had a crush on you when we were kids." You chuckled a little. You remember him following you around everywhere when you were together.
"Do you still?" You asked. Being with Jacob had always been easy. Even just as friends. He was kind. He was protective. He wanted the best for the people he loved and cared about. Sometimes he seems like he's far away in a distant land. Recently his every thought was Bella. He didn't care what was going on around him as long as Bella was safe. Hell he had even abandoned his dad for most of the day.
"I think so."
"You think?" The waitress made this the perfect time to come over and ask for a drink order. You ordered a milkshake that made Jake raise his eyebrows and order one himself.
"I mean I always saw myself marrying you." Those words took you by surprise. "I mean yeah, I love Bella, but it's just different with her. It's easy with her. I'm nervous around you." You were speechless. There was no way that he wanted to marry you. Not with the way he had been acting recently. You knew people changed their minds, that people fell out of love and into love easily. "Just give me some time okay?"
"As much as you need." You answered as the waitress came over with your milkshakes and asked if you were ready to order. Jacob ordered a bacon double cheese burger. You were starting to worry about how many burger's he consumed while on this trip. You ordered a garlic and herb grilled cheese before sipping your milkshake. "Are you going to go to the wedding?" You asked.
"Probably." He answered. Your parents had gotten the invitation in the mail the same day as Jacob. You were being forced to go, in support of Charlie. You just weren't sure how you were going to react to Jacob being there. Jacob watching the girl he loves marry someone else. Let alone a vampire. Who had every intention of changing her.
Thankfully most of the pack had been invited. Of course Sam, Paul and Jared most likely wouldn't be attending as they needed to protect the townspeople. Thankfully there was no immediate danger. Besides the Cullen's of course. But, the Clearwater's were invited. The Blacks were invited. The Ateara's were invited.
"Save a dance for me." You commented.
"Are you going?" He asked.
"Yeah." You answered as the waitress placed your food in front of you. "So you don't have to handle anything alone." You shrugged. "My parents are forcing me to go."
"I will most certainly save you a dance." He smiled before picking up his burger and taking a bite. You both ate in silence before the waitress came over and placed the check on the table. Jacob put cash down before standing. You headed to the car. He insisted on driving so you played the music. Hearing him singing along to the music and laughing with you was dangerous. You were falling more and more in love with him.
Getting home sucked. You got home in the middle of the night, both of you were exhausted. Jacob helped you get your bag inside.
"Do you just wanna crash here?" You asked.
"Sure." He commented. You pulled out the mattress that was under your bed so he could sleep. He rested on his side, facing you. You laid on your side looking at him. You let your hand fall down the side of the bed, he automatically grabbed it.
"I'm cold." You whispered looking at him. Even in the dark you could make out his face looking at you. He sucked in a deep breath before standing.
"Move over." He whispered. You shuffled over so he could climb under the covers with you. He automatically wrapped an arm around you and rested it against your hip. His thumb slowly rubbed your lower back. He could hear your heart pounding, hell so was his. Your hand came up to slowly run a finger over his jaw before moving down his neck and to the back of his neck. You slowly played with the hair by his neck. You wanted to kiss him. "Go to sleep." Like that was going to be happening any time soon.
It wasn't like you and Jacob had never had a sleepover before. But it was usually with Leah and Seth and he was never in the bed with you. Your parents would probably kill you if they knew you snuck him in. You breathed in his scent of old spice deodorant. You wanted to lick him but knew that would never go over well.
The next morning, he was still wrapped up around you. Your face was pressed to his chest and your arm was still in his hair. His chest was slowly rising and falling as you moved over. His arms tightened around you trying to get you to stop moving. You giggled when one of his eyes popped open.
"I'm trying to sleep." He mumbled.
"I need to pee." You wiggled. He right away dropped his arms so you could get out of the bed. He rolled over and went back to sleep. You shut the door behind you so he could rest.
"Morning." Your mom greeted you as you came down the stairs. You were hoping she just didn't happen to check on you this morning and see Jacob in your bed. "How was your trip?"
"I think he really needed it." You answered. "We had fun." You showed her pictures on your phone. You got to one of Jacob sitting on a rock. You were a few feet away from him. He was deep in thought but had a small smile on his face. He looked beautiful.
"That's a nice picture of him." She commented. "You two seem closer." She sipped her coffee.
"I take it you checked on me this morning." You said putting your phone down. "Nothing happened. I promise."
"Is he doing okay?" You weren't sure how to answer that. Because yes and no. Somedays it seemed like he was the normal Jacob. Before phasing and the imprint. Other days it seemed like the anger would never go away. His anger was justified. He had no control over his body. He shapeshifts into a giant wolf. He's 17 and was forced to go to war with vampires. He has a huge responsibility of taking care of his father after his sisters abandoned them both.
"He just needs a friend right now." It was no secret to anyone that Edward and Jacob were fighting over Bella. Everyone knew. The dick measuring contest happened nearly daily. Of course you preferred to be with the wolves. Bella would never be able to make up her mind. She wanted to be a vampire but still wanted to string Jacob along.
"So he has to be in my 17 year old daughter's bed?" She questioned. You sighed. "Just, be careful." She answered just as Jake entered the kitchen.
"I'm gonna head out." He commented.
"Do you need a ride?" You asked.
"Sure." He smiled. "Thanks for letting me stay the night." He commented looking over your head at your mom.
"Of course. Just don't knock up my daughter."
"Oh my god!" You groaned trying to shove Jacob out the front door who was laughing. "How did you sleep?" You asked once you got in the car.
"Good." He commented looking over at you. "Did you tell your mom we're together or something?"
"No." You answered quickly. You weren't sure if you answered too quickly and he thought that you were lying.
"Cause we're not together."
"I know." Your shoulders slumped a little at the words. Even though you knew you weren't together, you thought you were making progress. You were afraid things were going to go back to how they were before. You pulled up to his house and he quickly got out.
"I'll see you later." He commented before running inside. You gathered yourself for a few minutes before pulling away.
Once you got home you stood looking at your bed. You angrily ripped the sheets off and brought them downstairs to wash them. Leah came inside as you were stomping back up the stairs.
"What happened?" She asked.
"Nothing."
"Well Jacob was just at my house flipping out." She commented. "Did you kiss or something?"
"No. Did he tell you we did?" You asked.
"No. But he seemed… I don't know. Different. Happy." You sat down and sighed. "Guess the trip did you both good." You nodded. Maybe he was changing. Maybe he was moving on from the vampire girl.
"He slept here too. In my bed with me."
"Do anything?" She smirked at you.
"We cuddled." You answered. "Nothing else happened." She just smirked knowing that she would see everything later in his head.
The following weeks, Jacob kept his distance mostly. But, he did come over for dinner a few times. But, you also found out that he was keeping his distance from Bella, because she showed up at your house.
"You're keeping him from me!" She accused you.
"No I'm not! It's more like you're keeping him from me!" You shouted back at her. She's the one who had a boyfriend who she planned to marry in a few weeks but was also still stringing Jacob along acting like he had a chance to be with me.
"Oh please. Like you didn't use your imprint power to tell him to stay away from me." She rolled her eyes.
"I didn't." You confirmed. "Ever think that he's sick of being around you and your bloodsuckers?" You asked. "Don't blame this on me when you've been acting like you're gonna pick him for months!" You were pissed. How dare she come to your house yelling at you about Jacob. Your skin was burning and your breathing was ragged. "He deserves better." With that she got in her car and drove away.
Jacob got an angry call from Edward Cullen. The last person he ever wanted to get a call from. Let alone a call about you yelling at Bella.
"So what happened?" He asked as you laid in the grass in your backyard. He was laying next to you.
"She came here yelling at me and saying that I was forcing you to stay away from her with my imprint power." You had never done anything to make Jacob do something. You never used your "imprint power" to make him stay away from anyone. Jacob was always free to do what he pleased and see whoever he wanted.
"I chose to stay away from her on my own." He answered, moving the hair off your shoulder. You looked over at him. His face was soft. He looked like the old Jacob. The one who was happy. Who loved life. Who loved to build cars in his garage. "She's marrying my enemy. She doesn't understand the hurt she's been putting me through."
A wedding was the last place you wanted to be. You were standing with your parents, next to the Clearwater's. Billy and Jacob were closer to the end of the aisle. The decorations were beautiful and the weather was supposed to hold out for the day. You couldn't help but stare at Jacob. The few times he caught you he would smile.
Bella looked beautiful but you couldn't help but have a feeling of a stabbing in your chest. You looked over at Jake, who was looking at his hands in his lap. Realizing that it was him who was feeling the stabbing pain. You hadn't felt that feeling in a while. You wanted nothing more than to wrap him up in your arms and never let go. His eyes met yours and the pain in them almost had you out of your seat. He never moved his eyes from your face.
Edward and Bella walked down the aisle hand in hand, as the wedding party followed and then all of the guests. Jacob waited at the end of the aisle and walked beside you to the reception.
He threw everything to the wind and sat with you as dinner was served.
"Can I have this dance?" He held his hand out to you as he stood. You took his hand and he pulled you out of your seat and onto the dancefloor. You rested one hand in his and the other on his shoulder while he rested his free hand on your hip. You slowly danced with him. Feeling the love between you that you prayed he felt too. You couldn't help but continue to look at his face. His gaze was hooked on something behind you. You turned your head. Bella and Edward. Your heart automatically sank. He was never going to get over her. It didn't matter how hard you tried. When you glanced back at him, he was staring down at you. "You're the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on." He leaned down so you could see directly into his eyes.
"Can I interrupt?" Bella asked standing beside the two of you. You looked at Jacob to see if he wanted to dance with her.
"Sure, Bells." He commented moving his hand slowly off your hip. You dropped your hands from him and stepped to the side with your head down. Couldn't even have one dance. You moved back to your seat, watching them dance together. 1 song, 2, songs, by the third song you were getting antsy. You could tell Jacob and Bella were bickering while they talked to each other. Edward moved closer to them and tried to pull Bella away. You stood to get to Jacob but he took off towards the house. You grabbed your dress so you wouldn't trip and followed him out onto the driveway.
"Jacob!" You huffed trying to keep up in your heels. "Jake!" You shouted as you stood in the driveway. He stopped when he heard your voice.
"I can't do this." He yelled so you could hear him. "It's too much." He shook his head looking at the sky.
"That's okay." You commented. "It's okay." He moved closer to you. He looked so handsome in his button down, tie and black pants. "What can I do?" You asked. He took long steps to you, holding your face with one hand and pulling you closer to him by your hip. His lips moved against yours. You held him around his back pressing yourself into him as close as you could get.
"I owe you a dance." He whispered against your lips. You could both still hear the music from the driveway.
"Right here?" You asked looking up at him.
"Right here, darling." He again took your hand. He twirled you before pulling you close to him. There were no words exchanged between the two of you but you didn't need to. You both felt exactly what you were both trying to hold at bay.
Two weeks later, when the news broke that Bella was pregnant, the pack had gone crazy. You were with Billy when Jacob came in the house looking distraught. He couldn't stay away from you for very long, had barely left your side since the wedding but you knew no matter what, Bella was his friend.
"What's going on?"
"That demon is eating her from the inside out." He confirmed. "It's extremely strong. Her heart will give out before she can deliver." Jacob's only solution to not be away from you and to be with her, was to bring you to the Cullen's. You were never really close with Bella but Jacob needed your support. The pack was on standby, waiting. Jacob had convinced them that everyone needed to wait. No one knew what the demon child could do.
You helped Esme and Rosalie care for Bella. Jacob and Edward weren't much help. Both were either fighting with each other or fighting their own personal hell in their head.
"Why are you being so nice to me?" Bella asked.
"Because you're Jacob's best friend. He's worried. I just wanna support him. If helping you and getting along with you is going to make this easier on you both, then I'll do it." You answered. Jacob had warned you. That this wasn't going to end well. That Bella would most likely die before she could even meet her baby.
So when her back snapped and she was rushed off to the room that the Cullen's set up for delivery, you followed. You held Bella's hand as Edward, Rosalie, and Jacob worked over her body. You couldn't understand what any of them were saying but you were not going to leave Bella now. Bella's screams were something that would haunt you for the rest of your life. You didn't look at what Edward was doing. There was already way too much blood. You kept your eyes on either Bella or Jacob.
"It's a boy." You heard Edward say. You finally moved to look at Edward who was holding up a baby boy, who wailed. Bella's hand slipped out of yours as she reached for her baby. Edward placed him on her chest. She weakly held him with Edward's help. The baby turned and bit into her chest. Her face grimaced before her shriek rang through the room scaring all of you. You jumped back as Edward grabbed the baby and handed him to Rosalie.
"What just happened?" Jacob asked.
"He has venom. She's changing." Her body convulsed off the table.
"Let's go." Jacob grabbed you and dragged you out of the house. You had seen enough to traumatize you for life. You stopped in the driveway trying to gather your thoughts. You had just watched a human give birth to a half vampire, who was then changed by the same baby. "You okay?" He asked just as you leaned over and threw up everything that was in your stomach. He rubbed your back wanting to throw up himself. "Thank you for being there for me." He commented as you sat down. You had your head between your knees. How he wasn't doing the same was beyond you. He just watched his best friend give birth and then become a vampire in less than 5 minutes. "We have to get out of here." He softly commented. He helped you into his car before driving to his house.
"How is she?" Billy asked. Jacob wasn't sure if he was referring to you or Bella.
"Bella is transitioning into a vampire. The baby bit her." Jacob confirmed. At this point, Jacob just wanted to get out of La Push. "She's a vampire." He said it looking directly at you. You felt like you were going to throw up again. "Are you okay?" He asked.
"No."
"It's okay." He pulled you into his arms. "I got you. I'm here. You'll never have to deal with that again okay? It's you and me now." You buried your face in his neck as he rubbed your back. You weren't so sure that he wouldn't go and check on Bella.
A few days later the pack got word that Bella was awake. It took everything in Jacob to not run over there and kill all of them. Sam had a meeting with Carlisle. Carlisle had mentioned the baby was taking animal blood and right now didn't seem like it would be a danger. Carlisle understood that the pack wouldn't hesitate to destroy them if something were to happen.
Jacob however, Jacob was laying in your bed. He was ignoring all of his responsibilities so he could hang out with you. He rolled over onto his stomach as you folded your laundry.
"I love you." He blurted.
"What?" You had to make sure you were hearing him correctly.
"I love you." He said. "I realized, when we were both watching Bella die. I love you. No one else could have possibly stood there, to support me, to watch that, and not run away screaming." It still haunted your dreams. "I love you."
"Took you long enough." You smiled, dropping the pants you held and moving over to the bed. He moved to his knees and grabbed you. This wasn't your first kiss, but it was the first one that made it seem like you were the only two people in the world. Like everything that had happened in the past few months didn't matter. He was here, with you. And he was happy.
