Chapter 1

Heart Broken

One-Shot

Kendall/Jo/Mrs. Knight Centric

Kendall Knight liked to think he was a lucky guy. For one, he had an amazing mother and sister. Secondly, he had three of the best supportive friends anyone could ever ask to have. Finally, he had one of the hottest girls in upcoming Hollywood as his girlfriend; she was known as Jo Taylor.

The two had been dating for almost two years now, and things have been going incredibly well. It was hard to imagine how they couldn't have been. Jo and Kendall had a lot in common, and the two of them always saw eye to eye on things most of the time. They were a rare couple.

But, Kendall's luck seemed to have changed. Of course, he should've known that dating in Hollywood was hard, but he didn't believe it until it broke his heart. His girlfriend of almost two years just got offered the role of a lifetime. He was super happy for her and wanted to support her and succeed, but there was one problem. The movie was being filmed in New Zealand for three years….and the thought of losing Jo for that long hurt him.

Nonetheless, Kendall had faked being a jerk to get her to break up with him and take the role. After the two talked things out, they said their goodbyes at the airport, and off she went, leaving a broken-hearted Kendall behind to deal with his pain and feelings, which is why he was currently lying on the bright orange sofa in his family and friends apartment known as 2J in Palm Woods. Kendall had been lying there all morning and was peacefully minding his own business until his friends walked out from sleeping and found him like that.

"Do you think he's okay?" Carlson questioned with a raised eyebrow.

Hearing them talk made his head hurt, and Kendall whined in protest, turning to hope they would get the hint to leave. Of course, they stood there and continued to talk about him as if he wasn't there. He knew his friends had good intentions, and he just wanted to wallow in his despair alone.

"I'm sure he's fine; he's Kendall after all; he'll be back to himself in a matter of hours," James stated as he shrugged.

Groaning again, Kendall whined in protest into his pillow. The muffled cry went unnoticed once more to his friends as a sign to be quiet and leave him alone. All Kendall wanted to do was rest and let his heart heal and his mind clear. The heartbreak was hard enough, and his friends didn't need to interfere. Sometimes, this was the downside of his friends, but overall, he didn't mind, for he knew they were only trying to make him feel better. But the talking was not helping his headache at all. The pounding in his head had started when they left the airport that day, and it just seems to be feeling worse and worse by the moment; along with his chest, it also hurt where his heart was. Kendall officially agreed that breakups sucked, and he never wanted to go through like this again. Of course, that was if he got through it.

"- Well, maybe we can take him out, get him some fresh air and all…." Logan thought as he tried to think of ways to help his friend. "- Scientific data shows that fresh air helps clear the mind." Logan finishes as smiled lightly.

"Guys enough - "Kendall mutters as he removes his face from the pillows, so his voice wasn't muffled; he still doesn't look at his friends, however. They all go quiet when he speaks, and they listen closely to what he says. Kendall adds, "- I just want to be alone, please…."

There's a thick, awkward silence after that statement. For a moment, no one said anything until the other three just frowned and shrugged it off. Eventually, James, Carlos, and Logan left in mumbles that Kendall ignored. Once they were gone, Kendall sighs, finally happy there is silence. He laid there for another hour before he finally decided to move at all.

Getting up, Kendall went and used the bathroom; when he finished, he exited the room and ran into someone. The two managed to catch themselves before they hit the floor, but the grocery contents all around their feet gave who the person was away to Kendall.

"Ugh, sorry, mom…." Kendall states as he starts helping his mom pick the items up.

Once they gather the items, they stand, and Mrs. Knight smiles at her son. She says, "It's okay, Kendall, it was an accident. I'm just happy to see you off the couch. Did you finally get over Jo?"

Once his mom mentioned Jo's name, Kendall couldn't hold it in anymore, and he just broke down. Tears rolled down his cheeks, and he slid against the side of the kitchen cabinets to sit on the floor. Bringing his knees to his chest, he starts crying even harder while yelling Jo's name; the pain was still there, and he missed her terribly.

Mrs. Knight frowned as she watched her son break down. It was sporadic if she saw Kendall cry; he never really did. Singing, Mrs. Knight sat down next to her son and pulled him into a hug. She whispered sweet words to him and comforted him, letting him cry as long as he needed.

Once he was a little calmer, she said, "Things happen for a reason, Kendall - "She smiled softly at him when he looked up at her. "- Sometimes, things don't work out, and sometimes they do. You did the right thing letting Jo go to follow her dreams. And, you know what they say…." Mrs. Knight adds as she makes sure Kendalls is looking at her for this. "...If you love someone, you set them free, and if it's meant to be, they will come back." She continues. "Love is different and difficult. This will not be the only heartbreak you face, but it will take you one step closer to the one that's meant to be…" She finishes as she kisses her son on the forehead.

"Thanks, mom, that helped a lot," Kendall states after a moment of silence.

With one last hug, they stand up, and she smiles. "You're welcome…..Now, help me put these groceries away, please? Then can you check on your friends? I saw them run through the lobby with Bitters chasing them on my way in…" Mrs. Knight finishes with a slight grin.

Kendall laughed at this, and he nodded. "Sure…."

After helping his mom put the stuff away, he looked for James, Carlos, and Logan. After all, he owed them an apology since he knew they were only trying to help, and he felt bad for acting like a jerk. Maybe over time, he will feel better; with his best friends and his mother and sister as support, Kendall Knight liked to think he was a lucky guy. And for this, he knew his heart would indeed heal over time.
