Lost
Summary: He was ignored, unseen, just how he chose it to be. But she did see him, put time and effort for him when she didn't need to. So he would love her till the end, even if the world burned because of it.
"I love you."
A brilliant blush burned vibrantly on his face, along with a frown, "In front of all these people? Seriously?"
"I want them all to know."
"You came."
"Did I have a choice?"
The slight upturn of her lips was his only answer, eliciting a sigh from him, the blonde-haired war veteran seated himself on the line bench of the rooftop.
It was the only place he could go unnoticed, a place where no one would come to bother him, until she arrived at least.
Koneko Toujou, there was not much he knew about her, other than that she smelled like a cat, her indisputable height disadvantage and she didn't show many emotions.
She also had a tendency to follow him around.
He was interrupted out of his thoughts seeing her scoot closer to him, opening her bento box, "I made lunch, eat." She ordered him.
He frowned, furrowing his eyebrows, was she really going to take this boyfriend and girlfriend thing seriously?
And yes she was his girlfriend. He had made a bet with her a week prior, one that he had somehow lost.
He was to beat her in a race to the school, Naruto was fully prepared to expel chakra and rooftop jump.
But she had got there at a speed almost unfathomable, as if she somehow teleported.
He saw her turn a corner and that was it.
Naruto was no slouch when it came to speed. He had once outsped a goddess that could breach distortions in reality itself.
The Jinchuriki held in a grimace at the thought, 'Kaguya...'
All his comrades, they perished in the face of the mad Rabbit Goddess.
He failed them, and all he could do was regret and mourn for their loss.
He couldn't cry. That well dried up ages ago, but the pain was still unbearable. No matter how much time passed.
Koneko frowned seeing her new partner's emotions reflect in his eyes, anguish, turmoil, and regret were the reoccurring feelings.
She placed her bento down beside her before focusing in on his face, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing." He replied, his tone was bitter, and cold. "Don't lie." She insisted.
He scoffed before standing up, he wasn't obliged to tell her anything, intending to make his way back to the inside of the building.
Although a surprisingly strong grip forced him to sit back down before he could, he faced her with a raised eyebrow and a frown.
"What are you after?" He spoke with crossed arms, "You." A lesser man would've blushed.
"Why?"
"I want to know more about you." The white-haired devil said, giving a frown. "You're my boyfriend."
Was being her partner meant he was supposed to just tell her everything he wanted to keep in the past? "And so I've said, I want to be left alone."
Koneko couldn't help but get frustrated, what was so hard for him to understand about this? She placed a hand on his, "Trust me, please."
She expected him to swipe his hand from under hers and was surprised it wasn't. She saw his eyes soften, if only a little.
Naruto inherited more from Kurama's chakra than just negative emotion sensing, taking in almost the entire emotional spectrum upon fusing with his Chakra.
And the amount of love and hope radiating off of her was staggering. She was wasting that love on him.
He was a failure. Someone that couldn't protect his friends, he wasn't fit for the patience and time she put into him.
His heart tightened looking at those love filled eyes, he looked away. "I'm sorry." He was no stranger to his own feelings.
And he knew he loved her too. It was hard not to, considering the two were in the others presence for the last 4 months.
He felt tiny arms wrap around his figure. "Don't be." She said, how could she easily forgive him like this? He didn't even tell her what she asked to know.
'This girl...' Had anyone seen this, they would've passed out instantly. The infamous Shadow of Kuoh, and the school mascot, hugging on the top of the school building.
With the amount that he ignored her from their first meeting, how he avoided her, and how she went out of her way to try and comfort him when he was down.
She deserved to know more about him.
He treated her wrongly and she still stuck by his side. "I'm a Ninja." As ridiculous as it sounded it was the truth.
Her eyes glanced up at him, surprise evident in her eyes with disbelief, "Ninja?"
He saw no harm in telling her, the Sage knew she wouldn't let anybody know what happened and what was said between them.
"Before I came here, I was a Ninja, to my village Konohagakure. The village hidden in the leaves." His voice was filled with nostalgia and tickle of sadness.
The Nekoshou took this information in with a great interest. A Ninja? Did that mean he was aware of the supernatural? And he was finally telling her information about himself, this meant that their relationship was making progress.
It elated her beyond belief. A dazzling smile formed on her face. "Tell me more."
And so he did.
