If anyone understood Dimitri's thirst for blood and revenge, it was Luka.

He understood the prince's despair at losing everyone and everything he held so dear. After all, Luka himself lost much in the blink of an eye as well. Yet, unlike Dimitri, Luka's loss was self-inflicted.

Born in the Adrestian Empire, Luka knew of the corruption lingering in its depths. He loathed the emperor, but more than that, he loathed Edelgard. He knew the white haired woman had plans for something greater, something corrupt. And so, without even saying goodbye to his parents or siblings, Luka left.

Sometimes, he wonders how his family fares after his departure. Deep down, Luka doesn't want to know. He was his family's star child, born with great magical capabilities. They expected him to join the Imperial Army one day.

How would they feel if they knew Luka was cutting down soldiers of the very same army his family wished for him to fight in? That he turned against his home, his people, and them? Such thoughts keep him up at night. Another understanding he has with Dimitri.

When it came to joining the Alliance or the Kingdom, Luka knew where he wanted to go without a second thought. When he was young, he met Dimitri when he was dancing with Edelgard. He kept himself hidden, but was smitten by the blond boy.

His eyes, especially, drew him in. Baby blues untainted by a storm, the picture of innocence. Very few met Dimitri when he was this way and even fewer would believe the man could be such a way. But Luka knew. He knew the Dimitri that wasn't tempered by any storm before the tragedy occurred.

After the horrendous events happened, Luka understood where he was needed. Dimitri had no one, no one to call an ally, family, or friend. So he went to Faerghus, leaving his home behind, and went to stand by Dimitri's side.

Dimitri was cautious of him, of course he was. He came from the empire whom he thought slayed his family. Despite his hesitance and unwillingness to befriend him, Luka remained steadfast by his side.

As time went on, Dimitri learned to trust Luka. They often played together and Luka continued to teach Dimitri how to dance. Those eyes he saw so long ago, the ones untainted and pure, were now cloudy with darkness and betrayal. And if anyone thought there would be a different reaction, Luka wouldn't hesitate to cut them down.

Dimitri was the center of his universe, the reason he existed. Luka's heart swelled each time the blond would give him the barest hint of a smile or glide his fingers across his cheeks in a show of affection. Affection Dimitri gave to none but him. And Luka savored each moment.

They went to Garrag Mach, where the pair saw Edelgard once more. Edelgard regarded Luka with an air of cold indifference and Dimitri much the same. Baby blues once more became cloudy, but this time with hatred, with revenge, with thoughts of severing Edelgard's head from her shoulders.

Then they met the professor. Byleth was an enigma. He spoke in hushed tones and emotions appeared to be a luxury for him. Luka was wary of the strange man, but Dimitri trusted him, and that's all Luka needed to throw his trust at the professor as well.

The first - and only - time they witnessed Byleth show emotion was when his father, Jeralt, was killed by a strange woman, and not even his powers of turning back time saved the man. Tears trickled down his cheeks and he cried for several days. Dimitri expressed concern for their professor, and Luka admitted he was a bit worried as well. But they continued to press onwards.

Their biggest shock came when the Flame Emperor was revealed to be their most hated enemy - none other than Edelgard herself. It was the first time Luka witnessed the darkness Dimitri had become. Slaughtering Imperial troops with blood smeared across his face, the smirk he wore could best be described as evil.

Did this lessen the affection Luka held for him? Nothing ever would. He understood that darkness. He understood Dimitri, maybe even better than the man himself. He understood why he turned out this way.

Dimitri's enemies were Luka's enemies, and so, when the Adrestian Empire announced war on the Church of Seiros, Luka vowed to fight with his newfound allies and friends. They would stop Edelgard, no matter what.

And, if he and Edelgard ever encountered one another on the battlefield, he wouldn't hesitate to drown her in miasma.

After the battle at Garrag Mach, the loss of their professor, and Dedue, Luka once more was the one person standing by Dimitri's side.

Dimitri became a feral beast, killing anyone who stood in his way, and Luka helped in his slaughters. If someone survived his lance, Luka drowned them in miasma. They became a pair to be feared, a pair who wouldn't hesitate to kill.

Sometimes, Luka thinks of the time where those blues were untainted by death and destruction. Seeing them now, darkened by revenge, saddens him. If Luka could, he would turn back time and stop the slaughter of everyone Dimitri held dear.

For now, all he can do is help the man he loves with everything he has. Some may think it unhealthy, Luka's fierce devotion and blindness to what Dimitri's become, but he doesn't care of petty matters.

Dimitri is his universe. If he wishes to kill, then Luka shall kill. If he wishes to die, then Luka will die.

That's just how it is. And if someone has a problem with it, Luka has no issue burning them alive.
