Fall: Hello, everyone! Enjoy this sweet KilluGon nighttime ficlet!
Killua: How sweet can it be?
Gon: I hope it's super sweet~
"Gon?"
"Killua?"
"Ah, you picked up. I wasn't sure if you'd still be awake at this hour. It's like two in the morning for you, right?"
Gon looked over at his analog clock in the darkness. It was closer to one forty-five. He'd been sleeping a moment earlier when his phone's vibrations had awoken him. He had failed to put the Beetle 08 on silent before bed. This new phone was so different from the last model. "Um, yeah," the black-haired boy finally answered, "and what about you?"
"It's like ten over here in Kipurnican. I put Alluka to bed an hour ago and was playing a game…" The ex-assassin trailed off.
Sleepily, Gon waited, just in case Killua was going to finish his sentence. He had a feeling what the rest of the line was, but the white-haired Tsundere probably wouldn't say it. After the pause had carried on for long enough, the Freecss made an audible inhale to show he'd break the silence.
"-but then I thought of you!"
Gon jolted in surprise. Pulling the phone away from his ringing ear, he stared at it with a goofy grin on his face. He was so happy to hear that. "Um… in what way?" he mumbled into the microphone.
"Not in that way, just a normal way," Killua hissed quietly, his own embarrassment obvious in his tone. The Zoldyck checked to make sure Alluka was still snoozing in the hotel bed next to his. He hadn't meant to yell, but he'd really wanted to say it. Say that he'd been thinking about Gon, who was miles and miles away. Of course the island idiot had to make him seem like a perv and ruin the mood. Not that Killua usually wasn't that.
"Normal way?"
"You know, like thinking about traveling with you, training with you, even just eating with you…" God, what was he even saying? It almost sounded like he was being sentimental. Blushing red in the face, the white-haired teen tried to keep his composure and push down those tsun-tsun feelings. "I was just thinking about you and decided to call you, okay?"
"I love you too, Killua," Gon giggled in the darkness. He put the phone back up against his cheek and closed his eyes. He envisioned that his boyfriend was in front of him, face red and thin brows furrowed. Killua was always so cool, but it was kind of cute when he got so frustrated over his feelings.
Hearing that melodic laugh, the larger boy frowned. Letting out a sigh, he ruffled his white bangs with his free hand. Might as well keep saying idiotic things. "I love you too, Gon. For some reason, I just had to tell you that."
"It makes me happy when you say it," the bottom of the relationship smiled again, hoping to encourage such affectionate phone calls in the future.
"Shut up. I mean, don't get too happy. I mean-"
"Killua, I love you."
"I love you too, Gon…"
"…"
"I love you, Gon."
"I love you too, Killua~"
"Stop enjoying this. It's torture for me, you know?"
"But you're the one who called me," Gon murmured playfully as he lay back down. Head on the pillow, he felt sleepy again. "Is there anything else you wanna say?"
"You're in for it this weekend. During our video chat, I won't go easy on you."
"Okay, looking forward to it," the smaller boy yawned. He pulled the comforter up to his chin and kept listening.
Killua talked a little bit about his day. Where he went with Alluka, what they did when they got there, clarified the food in the picture he had sent during lunch. It was obvious that he wasn't looking for a chat. Just knowing Gon was there on the other end was enough.
"And, you know, if we had the chance to go together, I'm sure it would be just as much fun," Killua chuckled as the half-hour monologue with himself came to an end. The Freecss had long since fallen asleep, the soft, familiar snores coming through the speaker at a steady pace. Still, it was a comforting sound to hear. When he missed Gon this much.
"Well, I'll let you continue what you're doing. Tomorrow, Alluka and I will be going to the Zoo because she wants to see the pandas…" Even if his life partner wasn't awake to answer, it wasn't any less nerve-racking. Glancing over to make sure his little sister was also still dreaming, Killua took a deep breath and whispered, "Uh, thanks again for picking up, even though it was so late. I love you… and I miss you, okay, Gon?" The ex-assassin nearly threw his beetle when he heard a small moan as the sleeping teen shifted positions. It was definitely time to end the call.
After pressing the red button, Killua set up the alarm for the morning. He checked the time and tomorrow's local weather before placing the phone on the bedside table for the night. Lying on his side and closing his eyes, he imagined Gon next to him under the covers. Eventually, they'd be together again. Traveling, training, eating… touching. But for now, it was good to know that he could get in touch with the boy he loved most without a moment's notice.
Fall: Aw, now I miss Killua and Gon being together.
Gon: *teary* Killua... I miss you.
Killua: *throwing up in a bucket* That wasn't sweet! That was sappy!
