"Hey Puar, hand me the torque wrench" Came the slightly aging voice of Yamcha as he sat on the edge of a thick wooden workbench. His long black hair was tied into a ponytail with two strands falling lazily on his face. His youthful vigor was mostly gone, replaced by a rougher and sharper look. His face scar had healed up best it could, but was still a reminder of his past as a bandit.
He wore a white wife beater and a pair of light tan khakis that were scuffed from various projects he tended to while he wore them. His boots were a similar tan color to his pants. His still impressively large muscles glinted with sweat as he reached out his left arm for his lifelong friend Puar to float over from the other side of the rather full workshop with a steel torque wrench.
They were in a large workshop that Yamcha had renovated into the side of his house with the large amount of money he made from his lucrative pro baseball career. The stone walls had racks of tools and various items used in wood and metalworking. A light hanging from the ceiling covered in a metal cage shed a bright light on the room.
Puar floated over to him, holding the wrench in one paw and gave it to him.
"Thanks!" Yamcha said with a smile as he took the wrench and began tightening a nut on the flying scooter he was repairing.
Seconds later a phone on the end of the workbench began ringing and shaking. It was one of the older cell phone models that looked like a small tablet. Putting down the wrench and getting up from the chair, Yamcha walked over to the phone and picked it up.
"Hello, Yamcha speaking" he answered, waiting for the person to introduce themselves.
"YAMCHA! ITS ME PEAR" a slightly growling voice half yelled through the phone.
"Oh, Sweet! Did they come in yet?" He responded excited at the prospect of his delivery arriving.
"Yeah, I've got two boxes of new stuff. Came in ten minutes ago. Come on over an pick them up. I know how you and Puar love these" The growling voice on the other end enthusiastically invited him over.
"Sweet! Let me clean up real quick. I'll be over in ten" Yamcha said before hanging up and giving Puar a big toothy grin.
"Wohoo!" Puar squeaked out while doing flips and loops of excitement in the air.
Wiping the sweat off of his forehead, he walked out of the room into a white hallway, part of the domed house he had renovated. Various rooms opened on both sides of the hallway an Yamcha entered one at the end. It was a bathroom and shower room combo.
Stripping down, he took a quick shower while Puar got him a set of clean clothes. Stepping out, he dried off with a large towel hung near the shower. Taking the clothes Puar handed him, he quickly put them on. Doing a quick rush of his teeth and a quick sprucing up, he was ready to go out.
Leaving through the front door of his large dome house, he stepped out into the desert town he lived in. The houses and buildings were prettty spaced out, giving a moderate amount of privacy. Picking up the flying motorcycle parked near the front door and hopping on it, he revved it up. Puar flew next to him as he took a moderate pace with the engine giving a smooth growl as he flew towards his destination.
Turning right from the road into a parking lot that had a few cars and bikes parked in front of a large domed building that had a big yellow sign over the entrance.
Diablo Desert Library
Parking his cycle and locking it, he hopped off with Puar next to him. The two walked up to the entrance. Puar was pretty excited.
"Hey Yamcha, if there are any Souper Man comics in the box I call first dibs" Puar claimed the comic of his choice.
"You got it buddy" Yamcha said with a small laugh as the two gave a little fist bump.
Opening the door, it was like entering a different world. The library was cool from being heavily air conditioned and long wooden tables stretched over the dark blue carpets. Behind them were a long line of bookshelves. On the right wall was a curving staircase going up to the second floor. A woman with long brown hair, light skin and a flower petal printed light blue dress walked up to Yamcha and greeted him warmly.
"Hello Yamcha. Hello Puar. Thanks for getting rid of that bandit that tried to rob us and burn this library down. You're here for Pear right? He's upstairs in the staff room. I won't take up your time" She said giving Yamcha a hug wich he gently returned and answered with "No problem Beri. It's good to see you".
The two went their own ways, the women walking through the tables to the bookshelves and Yamcha taking the stairs with Puar next to him.
On the top floor was more bookshelves and a long line of offices at the back. entering the one closest to the stairs, he was greeted by a bear humanoid wearing a blue tee and blue jeans with massive gray running shoes. He was standing next to a table with big cardboard boxes on it.
"Hey Pear, these all new ones?" Yamcha asked as he entered, giving Pear a fist and paw bump.
"Yeah, brand new. Straight from the printers in the big city. Good to see you friend" The bear said, passing Yamcha a box.
"Saved these till you came, Open em up" He said as he tore the top off one of the boxes. Inside were stacks of comics about various superheroes. The three of them spent a good hour looking through the comics but didn't want to look at all of them.
"I gotta go take a leak. Be back real quick" Yamcha said as he left the room to go to the nearby bathroom. Opening the door after knocking and noone responded, he entered. The bathroom was rather standard with a toilet, sink, baby changer, towel dispenser and trash can. On the sink was a book laying on the edge as if someone left it there on accident. He relieved himself then washed his hands. Only then did he pay much notice to the book.
"The four heroes" He said as he looked at the title. Judging by the artwork and text, it was one of those old school fantasy stories. He wasn't much of a fan of those given his life experiences, but something about it made him pick it up. He leafed through it and it was pretty much what one would expect from a fantasy story about heroes summoned.
It spoke about four heroes summoned to protect the world from dimensional monster invasions called waves. The four heroes were the spear hero, the sword hero, the shield hero, and the bow hero. He didn't really care and was about to put it down when he got to the story about the sword hero. It was blank.
"Weird" He said as he put it back down.
However, a bright yellow light filled the bathroom causing Yamcha to close and shield his eyes in surprise. Then he felt a falling sensation.
"Welcome brave heroes, to Melromarc".
That was the first thing Yamcha heard after his mind cleared. Opening his eyes, he was standing in a round stone room on a red carpet with gold threads. on the wall were tapestries and paintings. Above him was a candle chandelier and next to him were three young men barely older than their early twenties, the youngest looking no older than eighteen.
The tallest and oldest looking one was a young man with long flowing blonde hair, a broad chest and shoulders wearing a gray suit. In his right hand was a long spear with a gem handle. Next to him was a much shorter young man that almost looked like a boy was a short young man with messy blonde hair in a light green academy suit. On his back was a bow and quiver.
On Yamcha's other side was a young man looking a bit older. He had black messy hair, a green hoodie, black sweatpants and gray running shoes. On his left arm was a steel buckler in a kite shape. It was not large enough to be considered a kite shield and not round enough to be considered a round shield or small shield.
They all looked around very confused as to what exactly happened.
In front of the four summons was a line of five men. They all wore white robes with gold lining, their skin light and their hair gray. The man closest and at the front wore a small white mitre. He held a large golden crozier in his right hand.
After a minute or so, the four summoned heroes got a hold of themselves and looked at the men who summoned them.
"It seems you have composed yourselves. Allow me to welcome you to Melromarc. Our King is waiting to welcome you, please follow me"
And cut.
Till next time.
