Disclaimer: I do not own Darkwing Duck or any of its characters. More soft fluff for these two because holy heck this ship won't leave my mind. HHH, I just want the plant mans to be happy and in love with the liquid mans. ;-;
Rain, Rain, Come Again Another Day
When the rain came, it drew them both outside.
The clouds always thundered loudly enough to shake the windows of their fertilizer-processing warehouse hideout, but there was little nature could do to scare Bushroot away from the life-giving shower the sky gave him. Lightning tore across the sky and sometimes swallowed the night sky, but unless Liquidator wore numerous pieces of metal, the lightning had little chance of striking him.
People always assumed they hated storms, what with Bushroot's skittish nature and Liquidator's obvious weakness to electricity. Those assumptions couldn't have been farther from the truth.
With a gentle stretch of his arm, a leafy hand reached out from the inside of the warehouse, testing the strength of the rain. Water splashed against his arm and hand. It rained hard, but wasn't yet at the height of its power.
Bushroot grinned, excitement flooding the plant-duck's face. He took a deep breath, hopped out the door, and headed down the warehouse's back stairs. Rooted feet clapped against the wet concrete, careful to avoid slippery points on the stairs.
Once Bushroot's feet touched the wet mud of the open field behind the warehouse, the plant-duck froze in place, closed his eyes, and breathed in the raw vitality of his surroundings.
Raindrops pattered against him. The wind rustled through the purple petals and fluff on his head and swept around his body, chilling his skin and waving the upper half of his body. Stress melted from his shoulders, and as the flow of the rain lessened slightly, Bushroot lifted his face to the sky and let the water run over his cheeks.
Above him, thunder rumbled and groaned.
His feet moved on their own. With a step forward, the plant-duck spread out his arms, spinning and twirling under the spring shower. Water flowed through his petals and tickled his roots in a way that pleased him to no end, and as he whirled under the torrent, he felt his heart leap in his chest.
Suddenly, the drops stopped.
Bushroot's eyes opened, popping wider with surprise. The rain caved around him, falling in a way that made it look like a glass dome was over his head.
He turned around.
Liquidator stood at the bottom of the stairwell with a wicked smirk stretched across his face. He leaned against the stair's railing, arms crossed over his chest and one of his fingers pointing at the plant-duck. A flick of his finger, and the raindrops around Bushroot whirled around his body and tickled his sides in a more-than-playful way.
A shy smile rose with Bushroot's blush. One of his hands lifted up to his neck, and with a quick movement of his eyes, he silently asked his partner if he wanted to join him out in the rain.
Something between a breathy laugh and a pompous chuckle came from Liquidator. He stepped forward, swinging his hips and stretching out his arms to his partner.
Bushroot rolled his eyes, but moved to his partner.
As their hands met, the rain around them whirled up from the ground and the air.
The splashes fell back onto Bushroot's skin, and the smile the plant-duck had earlier wormed its way back onto his face. His leafy hands gripped tight onto Liquidator's, and as he side-stepped around his partner, he ducked under a water arm and twirled on his toes.
It took Liquidator a moment to catch up, but once he did, the watery dog grinned.
He slipped his arm behind Bushroot's back, lifting one of their clasped hands up to the pouring sky. A wink creased his face as he dipped Bushroot back, much to the poor duck's surprise. When Liquidator lifted Bushroot back up, he began to lead their dance.
A whirlpool of rain formed a circle around them, and only a few of the raindrops from the sky pattered against their bodies as they danced under the gray-clouded sky. Flashes of lightning and thunder added to the cadence of the nature around them, raising crescendos and lulls in the music the rain made.
Nothing phased them. In their minds, the world was only the nature around them and the other person in front of them.
Bushroot laughed, joy flooding his body. His hands parted from Liquidator's, and with a bubbly laugh, he twirled away from his partner, basking in as much rain as he could take in.
With another flick of his hand, more rain from the sky splashed onto them. The storm slowly began to reach its peak. Lighting and thunder roared and colored the atmosphere, a force little would dare reckon with.
For them, the storm was a maestro to their dance.
Bushroot sucked in air, heaving as the rain poured from the sky. The smile didn't leave his face, but it was clear that the poor plant-duck was exhausted. He pressed his leafy hands against his bent knees, then looked up to the watery form in front of him.
The last thing Bushroot saw before two arms scooped him up into a bridal carry was the mischievous smirk Liquidator had on before they had started dancing in the rain.
Bushroot yelped, and Liquidator laughed as he twirled the two of them around. Water splashed them from multiple directions, nipping at the plant-duck's body and tickling him to the point of giggles. Arms wrapped tight around wood and vine, and as the rain began to die away, Liquidator slowed them to a halt.
Petals pressed against a solid water forehead, and as the last few drops fell from the sky, a small kiss pressed against the bridge of Liquidator's muzzle.
The rain brought them more joy than most people could ever imagine.

I definitely will be writing a few more fluffy oneshots and drabbles for these two, because holy heck, every time I write them I just feel so much happiness. Nonetheless, I hope you all enjoyed, and thank you so much for reading and supporting! :D
