The Doctor walked along the Tardis hallways. He could hear laughter coming from the kitchen, along with the smell of something cooking.

He looked into the kitchen to see Ian, Barbra, and Susan gathered around the oven. Barbra was stirring something while Susan was laughing at Ian who was flipping some brown something into the air before catching it in the pan.

"What's going on in here hmm?"

"Barbra and Ian are teaching me how to cook Grandfather!" Susan said, "Well...mostly Barbra."

"Hey I'll have you know my pancakes are famous back home!" Chesterton said looked affronted.

"Famous for making people sick maybe," Barbra muttered.

Chesterton gasped dramatically, "Ms. Wright did you just insult my pancakes? I'll have you know that these are by far, the best pancakes in the universe."

"Really? In the whole universe?"

"That's right," Ian said stubbornly.

"Well your best-pancakes-in-the-universe are currently burning."

"On shit." Ian muttered, quickly turning back to the pan.

"Ian not in front of Susan!"

"Right, sorry Susan, and sorry Doctor."

"It's quite alright dear boy," the Doctor said stepping into the room and looking at the small pile of round bread things. There were also some strips of meat and Barbra was cracking some eggs into a bowl, "You don't have to cook you know, the food machine can make you anything you want."

"We know, but sometimes it's more about the experience than making the actual meal. Plus Susan said she didn't know how to cook and everyone should know the basics," Barbra said as she began stirring the eggs.

"It is quite fun grandfather, you should try it."

"Yes you should, come join us Doctor, you can make the eggs."

"Well...see here...I'm not sure this is a good idea," the Doctor protested as Susan dragged him towards the oven.

"Nonsense, everyone needs to know how to cook and this is the simplest dish there is. Just move the spatula across the pan so the eggs don't burn," Barbra said shoving the spatula into his hand.

The Doctor looked down at the pan full of yellow liquid, "Right... seems easy enough."

Blast it all he was a time lord, a traveler of the fourth dimension. He could make some bloody eggs. It's not as if it was rocket science.

He stirred the eggs a few times until Barbra seemed satisfied. She turned and began showing Susan how to cook the bacon.

The Doctor smiled as he watched them. He knew Ian and Barbra never meant to come with him and Susan, and their interfering had been very annoying at first, but he was growing to like these humans. He regretted now being so rude to them when they first entered the Tardis, but then again the Council had always stressed the importance of not letting "privatives" see technology past their time. Ian and Barbra were very different from how humans were described at the academy though. He might even go so far as to say they taught him a thing or two. And Susan loved spending time with them that was certain. Yes it was quite a happy accident the day they wandered into the junkyard, and he was proud to call these humans his friends-

"Doctor the eggs are burning!"

A flame shot up before him. The next few minutes were full of panicked screaming and Ian running around screaming "WHERE THE HELL IS THE SINK" before the flame was finally put out. They stood panting, staring silently at the blackened mess that used to be eggs.

The Doctor was feeling a bit guilty by this point for ruining their breakfast. He was about to suggest they use the food machine after all when Barbra started laughing.

"How did you manage to set raw eggs on fire?" she laughed.

Ian and Susan glanced at each other and then they began laughing too.

"Your face when you saw the flames go up-"

"And you chucking the pan across the room-"

The Doctor himself was laughing at this point.

"Right well, that might be enough cooking for one day," Ian said as the laughter finally began to calm down.

"At least we still have plenty of pancakes," Susan said.

Yes. The Doctor thought as they sat around the table, passing the pancakes and laughing. The day he met these humans was a happy one indeed.

I figure the Doctor's cooking ability varies wildly depending on the regeneration. Like he's either a great chef or he burns water and there is no in-between.
