A/N: Gensokyo Festival 2021 Day 16 prompt: Pink.
"Happy Valentine's Day!" chirps Sanae, holding a small, pink, heart-shaped package out to Reimu.
Reimu pauses mid-sweep with the broom in her hands, staring blankly at the green-haired girl.
Youkai Mountain is quite a distance away from the Hakurei Shrine, so this rival shrine maiden coming all the way out here just to offer her a… present? It's not something Reimu would have expected.
"Valen-what?" repeats Reimu, frowning.
"Oh, do you not have that here?" asks Sanae. She blinks. "Ah. It's called Valentine's Day, where I come from. In the outside world, we had this tradition of giving chocolates to each other on the 14th day of the 2nd month of every year."
"Huh," says Reimu. She pauses for a moment, pondering the new information. Then, she reaches out and takes the package with her free hand, shrugging. "Well, I'm not going to pass up on free food."
Sanae smiles. "I hope you like it! I made it and wrapped it myself."
"Mm." Reimu stares at the package for a moment. "Ah. I don't have anything to give to you back, though."
"That's fine," says Sanae. "I don't mind. There's always next year, right?" She winks. "I hope you have a nice day!" She waves as she walks away.
Later that afternoon, Reimu unwraps the present and the chocolates inside actually really do look nice and well-presented.
She picks up one and tentatively takes a small bite from it.
"What the heck," she murmurs. "This is actually really good."
