A Dark alleyway lit up. There stood a man wearing a yellow and black jacket, holding on to a cylinder canister. It's emitting a bright yellow glow that is illuminating the area. The man looked in concern as he is about to press a button on it.
.
???: Whatever he said...I hope this doesn't kill me.
.
He pressed it and his vision turned to white.
.
Fifteen minutes ago
.
???: Hey! Monroe! Got a package with your name on it and I don't like looking at it all day. Pick up the pace Zane!
.
Zane: Oh. Shesh, Alright. Where am I going Zeke?
.
Zeke: Not sure but he did say go to the alley in the Neon District.
.
Zane: Really?! *In a sarcastic tone* Oh good. That means I'll have to guess which Alley in the Neon is right. If I pick right, I'll deliver this to an obese man who wants batteries or something else and if I pick wrong, I'll get jumped by some thugs.
.
Zeke: Hey hey. Good news, the person ain't some hooligan. I know this, cause he's paying for Kips instead of paper money. That there is something good.
.
Zane: Seriously? Those Kips are the reason why a Benjamin is obsolete.
.
Zeke: Yeah. If this guy has Kips instead of a hundred, then he's the real deal.
.
Zane grabbed the package and got on his bike.
.
Zeke: Don't get robbed!
.
Zane: Yeah yeah.
.
Zane sped off to the Neon. The district itself is a bit off from where the express is, so it's not a shlep. It was really called the Avolla District, named after one of the previous mayors Dean Avolla but with all the signs and lights, people just call it the Neon District. Traffic started to get a little cramped and Zane couldn't maneuver around. He decided to open up a bag attached to his bike and turned on a small radio.
.
News reporter: Hey, welcome back to late night news here in Mechatropolis City. I am Carl Sunder and here are some news if you missed any. Today the Mayor gave a speech addressing how crime will diminish and will turn to normal. Of course things won't go well with some baddies that'll try to commit any crime they see. A rock from the stars crashed not too far just hours ago. Eyewitnesses state that a shooting star fell down. When they got there, it vanished. Some say that it might have something to do with the strange disturbances around this city. Lastly, Mary Dirken, age 121, finally passed away. She of course was known to make delicious cookies for the Military Police as a reward for their efforts to protect us. She was a saint and we will miss her.
.
The traffic began to move again and Zane peddled down a few alleyways until he stopped on an open one. He got off and looked around. Suddenly, his phone, strapped to his backpack strap, started to ring.
.
Zane: Who's this?
.
???: The package. Open it.
.
Zane: Wha-
.
???: There is no time for questions and hesitations. Open the box and press the button.
.
C L I C K
.
Zane looked at the package in disbelief.
.
Zane: The fuck? *Sighs* Since I'm done playing this stupid game, why not. Why the hell not.
.
He opened the package to see a canister with glass. Inside are some yellow electricity dancing inside. He looked around it and only saw a button.
.
Zane: Whatever he said...I hope this doesn't kill me.
.
He pressed the button.
.
He woke up. Looked around to see he's still in the alley. He looked to see a broken canister and his bike, all charred with the radio busted. He noticed around him the alley seemed that way too and also noticed the whole city seemed dark. He got up and walked out. A few bystanders were screaming.
.
Bystander 1: It's the end!!
.
Bystander 2: The whole City is dark.
.
It was true. The entire city had a blackout. Even the outskirts and far edges weren't safe. Then, out of nowhere, the power went back on. Everyone was confused but started walking.
.
Zane: Strange.
.
Zane looked at himself.
.
Zane: Did it have something to do with what I did? In fact, I appear to be okay. no marks, no pain. I feel like I'm in some video game or super hero comic.
.
Zane decided to forget the delivery and returned home. He didn't want to tell Zeke what he did. He walked all the way up north in the border to the Slums. The Slums as a whole is infested with anything but nice but the border, especially the north is quiet usually. He finally made his way to the street where his little house is. He then noticed a street light is broken and it's stump is emitting electricity, signaling that it's powered on. He walked past it and the electricity shot out and pierced him in the heart, electrocuting him. When it ended, Zane looked at himself to see he was fine.
.
Zane: What the hell? Should be dead.
.
He got home and looked at the empty, dark house. He lived alone but he was fine with that. He went straight to bed and hopefully tomorrow wasn't as strange as today. His eyes slowly close as he said to himself.
.
Zane: What a night.
